Dynamic and individual vehicle for new target group

Spanning the age range from 30 to mid-40, the target group is younger than the AMG clientele to date. In successful careers and with an independent frame of mind, these customers seek a dynamic and individual vehicle. They wish to lend expression to their style- and trend-oriented way of life with a car from a recognised high-performance brand. The A 45 AMG provides the predominantly urban target group with an agile high-performance vehicle. Mercedes-AMG accommodates their tech-savvy and individual outlook on life with an extremely broad selection of optional equipment and appointments, colours and materials.

Typically AMG: the most powerful series production four-cylinder engine in the world

Two figures show that the A 45 AMG holds pole position in its displacement segment:the newly developed AMG 2.0-litre turbo engine is the most powerful series production four-cylinder turbo engine in the world. A maximum output of 265 kW (360 hp) and up to 450 Newton metres of torque are unmatched by any other mass-produced turbocharged four-cylinder engine worldwide. The power density of 133 kW (181 hp) is also absolutely unrivalled. In this discipline, the new AMG high-performance turbo engine even outstrips the most powerful super sports cars.

The high power and torque output and the combination with the performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive as standard lead to extremely dynamic performance: the A 45 AMG accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, while its top speed stands at 250 km/h (electronically limited). The specially developed AMG engine is also a model of efficiency – the A 45 AMG also leads its segment on this front, with fuel consumption of 6.9 litres per 100 kilometres in NEDC combined mode. This is accompanied by particularly low exhaust emissions: the A 45 AMG already complies with the EU6 emissions standard which is not scheduled to enter into force until 2015, combined with the limit for the particle count per kilometre of 6 x 1011 which will be mandatory from 2017.

Twin-scroll turbocharger and AMG sports exhaust system with exhaust flap

Mercedes-AMG addresses the essential challenges concerning the response of small-displacement turbo engines by means of a twin-scroll turbocharger, maximum derestriction of the exhaust system and an innovative injection strategy. The twin-scroll technology provides for a more spontaneous build-up of charge pressure, making effective use of exhaust gas back pressure, exhaust gas temperature and exhaust gas impulse. This results in a swifter build-up of torque right from the lower rev range. As a positive side-effect, the twin-scroll technology also benefits fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. At a maximum charge pressure of 1.8 bar, the AMG 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine also leads the field in this respect.

The AMG sports exhaust system features large pipe cross-sections and an automatically controlled exhaust flap. This technology, which is familiar from the SLK 55 AMG, reconciles the two apparently conflicting aims of tangible dynamism and hallmark Mercedes comfort on long journeys. The flap is continuously adjusted by map control according to the power called up by the driver, load status and engine speed. The two striking tailpipes of the AMG sports exhaust system emit a fascinating, full engine sound which is particularly impressive during powerful acceleration.

An AMG Performance exhaust system with exhaust flap and featuring a dedicated tailpipe trim design is optionally available for the A 45 AMG. This provides for an even more emotional and striking engine sound when the throttle is open and during gear shifting. The double-declutching function during downshifting and the interruption of ignition and injection during upshifting under full load produce a particularly throaty sound with the AMG Performance exhaust system and create a level of emotionality which is otherwise the reserve of engines with more than 4 cylinders.

High-performance cooling system with components from the SLS AMG

The high driving dynamics of the A 45 AMG call for a highly effective cooling system. On the basis of the components belonging to the SLS AMG, a low-temperature circuit is additionally deployed for air-water charge air cooling of the four-cylinder turbo engine. The large cooler section at the front level of the cooling module is supplemented by an additional cooler in the wheel arch. Together with the charge air cooler which is connected in series, a high-performance electric pump ensures the required flow through the water coolers located behind the large intake ports. This provides for ideal cooling of the highly compressed charge air, thereby contributing towards optimum engine performance.

Cooling of the transmission oil is integrated in the water cooling circuit for the engine. The water cooler positioned behind the front apron is supported by the heat exchanger which is fitted directly on the transmission and supplied with cooling water as required by means of an auxiliary pump.

Engine production – a tradition of hand-built excellence

Similarly to all eight- and twelve-cylinder engines, the new AMG 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine is also hand-built according to the traditional AMG philosophy of “one man, one engine”. An exclusive assembly line has been set up for the new AMG engine at the Mercedes-Benz engine production plant in Kölleda – where all BlueDIRECT four-cylinder engines are built for the A- and B-Class models. A characteristic feature of the “one man, one engine” production process is the AMG engine plate bearing the signature of the responsible engine fitter. Apart from serving as an AMG hallmark confirming superlative production quality, the AMG engine plate also attests to the peerless DNA of Mercedes-Benz’s high-performance brand.

AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission

Dual clutch transmission and all-wheel drive – the drive package onboard the new A 45 AMG is a demonstration of high-end engineering prowess. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission is directly flange-mounted on the transversely installed AMG 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine. Key software modules have been adopted from the SLS AMG super sports car with its inspirational power transmission concept. The dual clutch transmission of the A45 features seven gears, three driving programmes, a double-declutching function and RACE START for optimum acceleration. The strengths of the AMG DCT sports transmission include spontaneous gear shifting without any interruption in tractive power, a tailor-made control strategy, extremely smooth and easy gear shifting and a high level of efficiency. Reinforced gear wheels provide for maximum stability. Synchroniser rings with carbon-fibre friction linings improve durability while also optimising the response time during manual gear-changing – the ideal basis for ambitious laps on cordoned-off race tracks.

“Momentary M mode” for even greater dynamism and driving enjoyment

Another special feature designed to enhance dynamic performance and driving enjoyment is so-called “Momentary M mode”. In C and S mode, this enables the driver to activate manual mode (“M”) without having to remove a hand from the steering wheel, by pressing the “up” or “down” shift paddle once. In Momentary M mode the driver experiences the dynamism and performance of gear-shifting in manual mode in all of the automatic driving programmes, with automatic up- and down-shifting into the bargain. This allows the driver to devote his full attention to the vehicle’s impressive performance.

The shift times in manual mode “M” and in Sport mode “S” are similarly sporty in character to those of the SLS AMG GT super sports car.Briefly and precisely interrupting ignition and injection under full load leads to even faster gearshifts with a more emotional sound than ever. In “C” mode (Controlled Efficiency), tangibly soft transmission and engine characteristics support a fuel-efficient and comfort-oriented driving style. The ECO start/stop function is also active in “C” mode.

Performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive

The new A 45 AMG comes with variable, performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive as standard. In developing this all-wheel drive, the focus firmly was on performance and dynamism. The power flux to the rear powertrain is provided by a compact power take-off unit (PTU) which is fully integrated in the 7-speed sports transmission. It does not possess an oil circuit of its own. Instead, it is supplied with lubricant from the oil circuit of the sports transmission . This configuration gives rise to substantial weight advantages in comparison to rival systems which branch off power by means of an add-on component with its own oil circuit. Together with the friction-minimised tapered roller bearings, the PTU achieves an excellent level of efficiency. As an additional bonus, the system weight of the new AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive is up to 25 percent lighter than the all-wheel drive versions offered by the competition.

A two-part propeller shaft transfers the power from the AMG 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine to the rear axle. In the interests of favourable weight distribution, an electrohydraulically controlled multi-disc clutch is integrated with the rear axle differential. The multi-disc clutch immediately detects slip at the front axle. A hydraulic pump instantaneously presses the discs together and channels the engine torque to the rear wheels as necessary. All this takes place virtually without the driver noticing. To enable particularly fast response, the pump is always active and does not require to be started up each time it is needed, such as is customary with other systems. Power distribution is fully variable: in normal driving, the A 45 AMG uses front-wheel drive in the interests of optimum efficiency. When the driving dynamics so require, the variable AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive splits the torque between front and rear axle up to a ratio of 50 : 50 percent. The variables influencing the power distribution ratio are vehicle speed, lateral and longitudinal acceleration, steering angle, speed difference between the individual wheels, selected gear and accelerator position.

3-stage ESP® with ESP® Curve Dynamic Assist

An exclusive feature is the interaction of the AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive with the 3-stage ESP® and the ESP® Curve Dynamic Assist. The three ESP® stages enable the driver to vary the dynamics of the A 45 AMG according to his individual wishes at the push of a button. The safety-oriented “ESP ON” mode supports the driver in maintaining neutral handling characteristics. The system initiates braking intervention on one or more wheels and reduces the engine torque on detecting that the operating conditions are becoming unstable.

Briefly pressing the ESP® button activates “ESP SPORT Handling” mode. This dynamically oriented driving mode applies appropriate control strategies for later ESP® intervention and increased drive torque at the rear axle. This means more fun at the wheel for drivers who are keen to exploit the vehicle’s dynamic potential. Pressing the ESP® button longer activates “ESP OFF”. In this mode, the ESP® functions are not available. ESP OFF should only be used by experienced drivers on cordoned-off race tracks. When the driver steps on the brake pedal in the course of braking in “SPORT Handling” mode or “ESP OFF” mode, all the safety functions of the ESP® system are restored.

ESP® Curve Dynamic Assist complements the ESP® system to perfection: during dynamic cornering, imperceptible braking intervention on the inside wheel gives rise to a defined yaw moment around the vertical axis, resulting in precise cornering by the A 45 AMG and ensuring that the vehicle remains under control at all times. Curve Dynamic Assist is adapted according to the selected ESP® mode. In “ESP SPORT Handling” mode and “ESP OFF” mode it supports the driver’s wish for increased agility and driving dynamics. ESP® Curve Dynamic Assist is an additional function of the Electronic Stability Program which noticeably improves not only agility, but also active driving safety in critical conditions.

AMG sports suspension with independent front and rear axle

Like every AMG high-performance automobile, the new A 45 AMG also incorporates sophisticated axle technology. For enhanced driving dynamics, the three-link front suspension is provided with stiffer steering knuckles and totally new elastokinematics. Newly developed, more rigid bearings are employed in the lower link plane. These provide for more agile cornering properties and more precise and direct feedback from the road surface. The more rigid bearings also lead to higher camber stiffness, enabling higher cornering speeds. In developing the complete front axle, great importance has been attached to attaining the best possible traction in highly dynamic driving.

The four-link rear axle of the A 45 AMG is also a totally new development. In the course of optimising the elastokinematics, the strut bearings were duly adapted for maximum driving dynamics and control. The rear axle carrier is provided with more rigid bearings for increased driving stability; the subframe is rigidly connected to the body. The AMG sports suspension with specifically tuned spring/damper units and larger stabilisers provides for high lateral acceleration and a reduced rolling tendency in fast double bends. Design – a choice of two new front-end styles

Numerous intelligent modifications have given the E-Class a new front-end design and revised proportions. Designers applied the new Mercedes-Benz design language to reinterpret the brand’s classic design values on the existing basis. The outcome is an elegant, refined and yet sporty look.

The front end has been completely revised with new headlamps that incorporate all light functions within a single lens, while flowing light elements within the headlamps help to retain the “four-eyed” appearance that is such a distinctive E-Class signature. When it comes to light and sight, the E-Class sets the benchmark – low beam and daytime running lights both come with partial LED as standard, while full-LED headlamps are available as an option for the first time in this class.

In another first, the MY14 E-Class is available with two different front-end designs. The Luxury version comes with the classic sedan grille with 3-louver look and star on the hood. The Sport version, on the other hand, features the sports grille with integrated star, forming a visual link to the brand’s highperformance sports car models.

The hood and front bumper have also been completely redesigned. With its flowing lines, the hood offers a smooth, sleek expression of the new design language. The bumper has new, contemporary styling with an aerofoil shape along its lower edge for an even more distinctively sporting character. Sport models receive an even more confident front design, using the AMG styling package that features larger air intakes and a distinct aluminum trim line along the entire lower rim of the front bumper.

Dynamic, elegant proportions

A new feature line and a repositioned three-dimensional trim line bring new proportions to both the sedan and wagon. The feature line runs below the structure line from the rear door to the tail light, giving the car greater visual length. This is reinforced by the side trim, which is now much lower. The over-all effect is to make the MY14 E-Class look longer and more elegant, and at the same time both dynamic and composed.

Broad, distinctive rear end

The rear end of the MY14 E-Class features modifications to the lights and the bumper. The new LED tail lamps have a horizontal design that emphasizes the width of the vehicle, while the two-tone look comes with a distinctive nighttime signature. Sport models feature exposed dual exhaust pipes.

Premium interior

The generously proportioned interior of the E-Class has been subtly revised and harmonized with the expressive exterior. Premium materials, precise lines and clearly defined surfaces combine to create a sophisticated overall look-andfeel.

A new feature is the two-part trim extending across the entire soft-touch dashboard, which is available in two wood finishes – burl walnut or black ash. Also new are the 3-tube instrument cluster, the trapezoidal head-unit display, the air vent design and the analogue clock between the two central vents.

“Intelligent drive” with new assistance systems

What started with PRE-SAFE® and continued with DISTRONIC PLUS® has emerged as a new dimension of driving at Mercedes-Benz, where comfort and safety merge into one. Mercedes-Benz calls this “intelligent drive.” A whole host of new or optimized systems from the future S-Class celebrate their world premiere in the E-Class, delivering increased comfort and safety, such as the all-new DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist.

The basis for all this is new state-of-the-art sensors and their associated algorithms. Mercedes-Benz has taken a major step forward with the introduction of the Stereo Multi-Purpose Camera. Just like the previous Mono Multi-Purpose Camera, it is located on the windshield near the rearview mirror. However, this camera features two “eyes,” set at an angle of 45 degrees to produce a threedimensional view of the area up to 55 yards in front of the vehicle and with an overall range of up to 550 yards. The stereo camera gathers data for processing by various systems using intelligent algorithms. The systems can detect vehicles driving in front, oncoming or crossing and evaluate this three-dimensional visual information to determine their speed and position. They can also identify pedestrians within a large field of vision.

Along with the Stereo Multi-Purpose Camera, Mercedes-Benz is also introducing enhanced versions of the Multi-Mode Radar sensor system. COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, a radar-based collision warning system with Adaptive Brake Assist is standard equipment on both the sedan and wagon. It helps to reduce significantly the risk of a rear-end collision. Also part of standard equipment is ATTENTION ASSIST®, which now warns of inattentiveness and drowsiness across a wider range, and provides visual information on attention level and time driven since the last break. The sensitivity of the newgeneration ATTENTION ASSIST® can be adjusted by the driver.

Also available are a number of assistance systems that are either new or now feature significantly enhanced functionality. In overview:

  • DISTRONIC PLUS® with Steering Assist can help the driver keep the vehicle centered in its lane and can semi-autonomously follow in-line traffic.
  • For the first time, the Brake Assist system BAS PLUS® with Cross- Traffic Assist is able to detect crossing traffic and pedestrians, and boost the braking power applied by the driver accordingly
  • The PRE-SAFE® Brake can now detect pedestrians as well and initiate autonomous braking.
  • PRE-SAFE® PLUS can identify an imminent rear-end collision and then prompt the PRE-SAFE® system to trigger occupant protection measures that reduce the forces exerted on passengers. If the vehicle is stationary, it can also prevent secondary accidents in the event of a rear-end collision by applying the brakes
  • Active Lane Keeping Assist can now detect when the adjacent lane is not clear, including the presence of oncoming traffic, overtaking vehicles, crash barriers etc. Under threat of a collision, even if the lane marking is not a solid line, the system can prevent the vehicle from leaving its lane unintentionally by applying the brakes on one side. This system pairs perfectly with Active Blind Spot Assist.
  • Adaptive Highbeam Assist PLUS allows high beam to remain permanently switched on without dazzling traffic by masking out other vehicles in the beams’ cone of light.
  • Active Parking Assist enables automated parking with active steering and brake control in both parallel and perpendicular spaces
  • The Surround View Camera will cover all four sides of the vehicle and enable a 360-degree view including virtual bird’s-eye perspective – a top view of the vehicle and its immediate surroundings. Dynamic guide lines help during parking and maneuvering.

Excellent performance with high gas mileage

Both the E-Class sedan and wagon boast a range of powerful and efficient gasoline and diesel engines. All come with the ECO start/stop system as standard equipment and are highly efficient. Mercedes-Benz offers the broadest range of ECO start/stop systems in the United States, as well as the most seamless, smooth, and unobtrusive algorithms.

The gasoline engines offered in the MY14 E-Class are the highly successful V6 and V8 units in the E350 and E550, which will go on sale in Spring 2013. They combine excellent response characteristics and outstanding power delivery with exceptional efficiency.

Powerful diesel engine and hybrid drive for outstanding efficiency

New in the MY14 E-Class sedan is the incredibly efficient four-cylinder diesel engine powering the E250 BlueTEC with 4MATIC all-wheel drive, available Fall 2013. Compliant with emissions legislations in all fifty states, the latest diesel model from Mercedes-Benz shows that premium elegance and outstanding economy are not mutually exclusive. The E250 BlueTEC generates 190 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, replacing the V6-powered E350 BlueTEC engine that only was available with rear-wheel drive.

A further feature of the MY14 E-Class range is the highly economical E400 HYBRID. Supplemented by an electric motor (27hp, 184 lb-ft), the E400 HYBRID offers the powerful and refined performance of the Mercedes-Benz 3.5- liter V6 (302hp, 273 lb-ft) paired with an outstanding gas mileage of 24/30 mpg (est. city/highway)

New-generation transmission for dynamic and economical driving

The engines in the MY14 E-Class are mated to the seven-speed automatic transmission with DIRECT SELECT lever and DIRECT SELECT shift paddles. This latest evolution of the seven-speed transmission offers significant benefits in terms of efficiency and ease of maintenance.

A new feature is the short-term M mode. If the driver shifts up or down manually, the transmission independently switches back to the fuel-efficient automatic shift mode after a pre-determined period of time elapses.

Traction and stability can also be enhanced across the MY14 E-Class lineup with the 4MATIC® permanent all-wheel-drive system – particularly effective in challenging surface conditions.

The E63 AMG sedan and wagon, launching in Fall 2013, comes with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT seven-speed MCT and 4MATIC in the United States, delivering incredible performance. More technical details will follow in January 2013 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Refined suspension for excellent handling

Mercedes-Benz offers three suspension configurations for the MY14 E-Class:

Mercedes CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake Pricing Announced

The CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake will start at €117,512.50 and the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake "Edition 1" is set at €128,639 in Europe

Mercedes has just announced the CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake’s price list for the European market, where the new coupe/wagon will go on sale in October.  The CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake will start at €117,512.50 and the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake “Edition 1” is set at €128,639. The new Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake celebrated its world premiere at the “Night of the Stars” at the German Grand Prix, the night before the German Grand Prix at the Hockenheimring. Powering the Shooting Brake, is the new 5.5-liter V8 biturbo engine, which puts out 557 hp and 800 Nm of torque giving the luxury kiddie hauler a sprint of 4.4 seconds.

Many of you were not able to attend the the world premiere of the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake at the “Night of the Stars”, so this is what you missed.  The event was effectively staged in the style of a fashion show. Before the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake appeared on the catwalk as the highlight of the show, the Mercedes-Benz Junior Team also presented the new A-Class: DTM drivers Roberto Merhi, Christian Vietoris and Robert Wickens drove onto the stage in the new A 250 Sport “engineered by AMG” model. They were soon followed by Susie Wolff in the SLK 55 AMG, Ralf Schumacher in the SL 65 AMG “45th ANNIVERSARY” model, as well as Gary Paffett and Jamie Green at the wheel of the new G 63 AMG.

AMG brand ambassadors David Coulthard and Mika Häkkinen then introduced the first public appearance of the “Edition 1 ” variant of the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake. To round off the exclusive vehicle presentation, this “Shooting Star” of the evening drove down the catwalk before stopping on a revolving stage where it could be admired by all of the guests. Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Board Member of Mercedes-Benz Cars responsible for Sales and Marketing, and Ola Källenius, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, presented the highlights of the new CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake in a subsequent interview.

The exclusive evening event held in the Mercedes-Benz theme area at the Hockenheimring also cast the spotlight on numerous members from the world of Mercedes motorsport. Norbert Haug, Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport, and Ross Brawn, Team Principal, were also in attendance as guests, along with MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg.

Our Formula 1 drivers as master engine builders at Mercedes-AMG

An exceptional highlight of the premiered vehicle was the AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine in the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake “Edition 1”, which had been assembled by Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg during their visit to Mercedes-AMG in Affalterbach on 18 July 2012. In doing so they changed the traditional AMG philosophy of “one man, one engine” slightly to “one team, one engine”, as they helped to assemble the highly efficient eight-cylinder M 157 engine, which produces 410 kW (557 hp).

The Formula One stars received expert help with installing the eight cylinders from AMG master engine builder Jens Zeitke. In addition to the signature of the master engine builder, the high-performance V8 engine also bears the signatures of Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg on the AMG engine badge.

Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg were especially pleased that their hard work was serving a particularly good cause: the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake “Edition 1” is to be auctioned off as part of the TV fundraising gala “A Heart for Children”, which is to be held on 15 December 2012.

Ola Källenius, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH: “The CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake is establishing a completely new vehicle segment and is expected to delight new customers just as much as existing AMG enthusiasts. The exciting combination of performance, style and usability is unique. The special feature of our vehicle which has been premiered this evening is the fact that Nico and Michael fitted the cylinders in the AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine during their visit to AMG in Affalterbach – in line with the slightly modified philosophy of “one team, one engine”. With their help we are very pleased to be supporting such a good cause.”

Norbert Haug, Vice President, Mercedes-Benz Motorsport: “The CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake has every quality needed to become a star. The Night of the Stars offers a great, sporty environment in which to give this unique car its world premiere.”

Mika Häkkinen: “Sporty cars have many attractions. But as a father, you soon learn to appreciate the practical side of a vehicle too. For me, the new CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake combines both of these strengths perfectly.”

David Coulthard: “With maximum power of 410 kW (557 hp), the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake “Edition 1″ delivers everything you could ever want in a road car.”

    111 years of Mercedes motorsport

There was also another special reason to celebrate at the “Night of the Stars” – 111 years of Mercedes motorsport since the first Mercedes victory at the “Nice Speed Week” in 1901. In this anniversary year, Nico Rosberg achieved the first Silver Arrow victory of the modern era at his 111th Formula 1 start in China on 15 April 2012. At the same time this also marked the 111th Mercedes Grand Prix victory since Mercedes-Benz became involved in motorsport activities.

CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake – performance, style and usability

Mercedes-AMG is once again demonstrating its qualities as a visionary by establishing a completely new market segment with the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake. The new AMG high-performance vehicle is the exciting enhancement of an innovative vehicle concept. As an attractive alternative for design-oriented car enthusiasts, the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake combines performance with style and usability in a new way. Synonymous with the dynamism which is typical of AMG are features such as the highly efficient AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine with a power output of 386 kW (525 hp), the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission and the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension. The generous interior and luggage compartment with a volume of up to 1550 litres reveal the practical sides of the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake. In addition to attractive optional extras from the AMG Performance Studio to enhance the driving dynamics even further, another unique highlight is the designo wooden luggage compartment floor. And as a truly exceptional offering there is also the limited CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake “Edition 1” boasting some particularly exclusive appointment features and an engine output of 410 kW (557 hp)..

The market launch of the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake and the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake “Edition 1” will commence in October 2012. The following is an overview of pricing for Germany (incl. 19% VAT):

CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake: €117,512.50

CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake “Edition 1”: €128,639

2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Equipment List and Technical Data

The 2013 SL Roadster's interior is a masterpiece with crosshair vents, a perfect combination of leather, wood and carbon fiber

The interior of the all new 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is designed beautifully with SLS inspired elements that include crosshair vents, a perfect combination of leather, wood and carbon fiber, as well as a center console that blends simplicity and elegance. Mercedes-Benz wording is engraved in aluminum on the bottom of the flat-bottom steering wheel that matches the silver gauges perfectly.

The roof comes in either standard glass or the Magic Sky Control which is also available on the Mercedes SLK. According to Mercedes the roof stows away in a mere 20 seconds and weighs 13 pounds less, due to its partial magnesium construction, adding to the SL’s 300 pound weight loss..

The SL550 comes equipped with a twin-turbocharged and direct-injected 4.6-liter V8, outputting 429 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque which is a major increase of the prior model’s 384 hp and 391 lb-ft. The 0-60 sprint takes around 4.5 seconds, a speedy sprint considering the fuel economy on the 2013 SL has been improved by up to 10 percent thanks to a modified seven-speed automatic gearbox and start/stop tech.

Speed-sensitive, electromechanical steering joins two suspension options: the standard Agility Control Suspension or the Active Body Control setup.

Two new technologies come standard on the SL-Class, the Magic Vision Control that combines the spray nozzles with wiper fluid into the wipers themselves, and the new FrontBass system that mounts two subwoofers in the driver and passenger footwells. And it wouldn’t be a Mercedes if all of the safety options weren’t available, including, Pre-Safe, NECK-PRO Active Head Restraints, Adaptive Brakes, Automatic pop-up rollover protection and several others.
