Ahead of its 2014 launch, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class XL was spied on the streets of Stuttgart and we have the video. According to the latest reports, the extra-long wheelbase S-Class will be 200mm longer than the current long wheelbase S-Class (5,2446mm) putting it at 5,446mm long. The seating layout will remain the same as the standard with the addition of a third window behind the back door.
Power for the enlarged S-Class will come from a V12 5.5 liter engine that is capable of outputting 585 HP (430 kW) and could potentially adopt the S600 Maybach moniker. No definite word on where the debut will happen but there is a good chance it will be debuted at the Guangshou Motor Show in China where they love long wheelbases.

Mercedes-Benz TV has unveiled a surreal new campaign for the Mercedes-Benz GLA featuring model, Georgia May Jagger. Titled, “Always restless.” The nearly two-minute video has Sir Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall’s daughter lounging on the GLA’s sunroof while her friend dances in the alley on a dark night while the neon city shines in the background.
Of course the video takes an entirely new turn when at the end a giant panda is riding in the driver’s seat, perhaps pulling a page from the Miley Cyrus playbook.
If you’ve ever been in a car accident, whether minor or major, chances are you were anything but calm, especially if that accident involved your car rolling over. The Russian woman in this video, however, manages to remain completely calm as her car does a barrel roll, seemingly unconcerned by what’s happening. She’s so calm, in fact, that I’m surprised she didn’t pull out her cellphone as it was happening to update her Facebook status to indicate part-time stunt driver as her occupation. And if one crash isn’t enough, I’ve also included one of the greatest Russian crash compilations ever created, paying further homage to the glory of Russian driving.

Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH: “Soon after the successful launch of the S 63 AMG, we are unveiling the new S 65 AMG. The AMG 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine delivers 463 kW (630 hp) with a maximum torque of 1000 newton metres – figures that enable the S 65 AMG to outperform all other vehicles in its segment. This superiority is highlighted by the car’s performance: the S 65 AMG accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited). The strengths of the 12-cylinder biturbo engine from Mercedes-AMG include its effortless acceleration in all speed ranges as well as its refined operation with the distinctive V12 sound typical of AMG. In short: the S 65 AMG impresses with its superior and stylish performance.
Compared with the previous model, fuel consumption has been reduced by 2.4 litres per 100 kilometres (NEDC, combined). With a fuel consumption of 11.9 litres per 100 kilometres (NEDC, combined), the new S 65 AMG is the world’s most fuel-efficient V12 high-performance saloon in terms of power and torque. The range-topping 12-cylinder model already meets the requirements of the EU6 emissions standard, which is not due to come into force until 2015.
Technical highlights of the AMG 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine:
Exclusive carbon-fibre engine cover with AMG engine badge
Opening the bonnet reveals the exclusive carbon-fibre/aluminium engine cover, which is a further sign of the exceptional status of the AMG 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine. Two AMG logos on left and right together with a centrally positioned Mercedes star create a lasting impression. The 12-cylinder engine is assembled by hand at AMG’s engine production facility in compliance with the most rigorous quality standards according to the philosophy “one man, one engine”. Apart from serving as an AMG hallmark confirming superlative precision and production quality, the AMG engine badge bearing the engine technician’s signature underneath the Mercedes star offers unmistakable proof of the peerless DNA of Mercedes-Benz’s high-performance brand.
AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC
As before in the SL 65 AMG high-performance roadster, AMG combines the 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC. Unlike in the direct predecessor of the S 65 AMG, which featured an AMG SPEEDSHIFT five-speed automatic transmission, the seven-speed automatic transmission with its wide ratio spread guarantees a noticeably lower engine speed level. This makes a key contribution to reducing the vehicle’s fuel consumption. The efficiency of the power train is further significantly improved by the fuel-economy converter, reduced-friction bearings and transmission oil heat management.
The AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC has three individual driving programs, which can be selected at the press of a button in the centre console: Controlled Efficiency (C), Sport (S) and Manual (M). In modes S and M the emphasis is on sportiness: maximum emotive appeal combined with truly perceivable dynamics is ensured by the brief, precisely defined cutback of ignition and injection during upshifts under full load; this shortens the shift times and lends an audibly more emotive tone to gearshifts. The ECO start/stop function is always activated in transmission mode “C”.
Lithium-ion battery reduces weight by over 20 kilograms
Like the S 63 AMG, the S 65 AMG features a lithium-ion battery. This innovative technology offers numerous advantages over a conventional battery concept: with a capacity of 78 Ah, the lithium-ion battery replaces both the starter battery and the backup battery – resulting in a weight saving of over 20 kilograms. The high-performance battery is relatively insensitive to cold temperatures and has compact dimensions. S 63 AMG and S 65 AMG are the world’s first volume-produced vehicles with such a battery concept.

I obviously don’t need to tell you of the SLS AMG Black Series’ track prowess, as it’s been designed from the ground up to tackle road courses like the Ring. But even knowing how good the SLS AMG Black Series is, it’s always fun seeing it in action.

If you’re looking for a great way to kick of this lovely Monday morning, we’ve got a couple fun videos for you , starting with this video of the 2014 Mercedes E63 AMG being put through its paces on the Nurburgring.
It’s not clear if this is indeed Mercedes still testing the new model, although the fact the E63 passes both the new F15 BMW X5 and camouflaged 2-Seris would indicate it is being run during a manufacturing testing session. What is clear, however, is how incredibly well the 2014 E63 stays planted on turns – a truly impressive testament to the prowess of Mercedes’ 4Matic system.

Drive Network’s Chris Harris was recently presented with an interesting challenge – make the Ford Fiesta ST accelerate faster than it’s normal 6.7 second 0-60 mph sprint without touching the motor. His plan: tow the mini Ford 1.6-liter EcoBoost (rated at 182 HP) with the massively powerful twin-turbo V8 5.5-liter 544 HP Mercedes G63 AMG, hoping the G63’s power would be enough to outdo the Fiesta, even with the Fiesta in tow.
Chris first tested out the Fiesta ST, sprinting from 0-60 mph in 7.2 seconds and 0-100 mph in 18.3 seconds. Then, with the Ford Fiesta ST in tow, the 2013 G63 AMG was put to the test. The result: the G didn’t have enough to beat the Fiesta, but it did manage to reach 60 mph in 9 seconds hit 100 mph in 22 seconds.
And while I applaud Chris’ attempt to better the Fiesta’s stock performance, I personally would have used the opportunity to drop the Fiesta ST out of an airplane and run the acceleration numbers, but that’s just me.
Even though you have the results of the test, check out the video below to see Chris Harris put the G63 AMG and Fiesta GT through their paces.
