Turn up your speakers and hit play to hear the sweetest sound of your day – the Mercedes-AMG GT.  In addition to the engine sounds, leaders of development at AMG discuss the achievements, challenges and innovations during the creation of the powerplant of the Mercedes-AMG GT.

Tested to the extremes of hot and cold, every vehicle Mercedes-Benz makes—from the C-Class to the SLS AMG GT—can survive conditions you’ll probably never encounter. To prove this point, Mercedes debuted their latest tv spot for the Mercedes-Benz Summer Event titled, “Heat”.

We’ve already received quite a bit of feedback on this commercial, and not all positive. As one reader pointed out, “I’d suggest pulling the ad wherein the hot-shot driver needs to douse himself down with water after driving your car. Is there something THAT wrong with the air-conditioning? Das ist nicht sehr gut. Das ist sehr komish. So much for Deutsche engineering.” He makes a good point that we hadn’t considered when watching.

For months we speculated about the all-new AMG GT, and after a round of official photos and the release of an official video, we no longer have to speculate.  The upcoming Mercedes-Benz AMG GT sports car will use a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine with a mill that uses up to 17.4 psi of turbo boost.  The engine is capable of 510 hp at 6250 rpm, and 479 lb-ft of torque between 1750 and 4750 rpm.

Dubbed the M178, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT engine is related to the other new twin-turbo V-8 engines within the Mercedes family. The M178 engine, however, has received multiple high-performance changes that have made it ideal for the AMG GT. Dry-sump oiling negates the need for an oil pan, allowing the engine to sit 2.2 inches lower in the car’s chassis. Forged pistons add strength, while a special “nano slide” coating within the cylinders reduce friction against the pistons. There are also turbochargers located inside the engine block, with a pair of intercoolers sited ahead of the V-8.

You may be thinking that you’ll never get over the loss of the naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter engine that was previously the backbone of the AMG fleet. But, get over it, the downsized turbo is the way of the future.

The 4-liter, twin-turbo V8 will make output 500 hp and power the all new AMG GT as well as the C63. But what does the twin-turbo sound like, does it give you the chills the way the old engine did?  The three sound files below and the first look video give a good sense of it.

The video below shows a Nissan 350Z getting smoked by a 2006 E55 AMG that is pulling a trailer with John Deere Lawnmower.  The E55 AMG is fitted with a Supercharged 5.5 liter V8 engine that outputs 469 bhp and 516 lb-ft of torque.  Connect that to a five-speed automatic transmission and the car can sprint 0-60 in a mere 4.5 seconds – not fast enough to leave a super car in the dust but clearly quick enough to leave behind most others.

What you should take away from the video, besides the awesome power of an AMG, is never to trash talk an AMG driver with a GoPro mounted out his window – even when he’s pulling a trailer.

Less than 24-hours from its world debut, we have a first glimpse of the Concept Coupé SUV.  Mercedes-Benz is truly raising automotive standards to a new, higher level.

Moreno Filandi from Bologna, Italy took a Mercedes-Benz SL Roadster (R129) and turned it into a Filandi Ever S.  Chances are you’ve never heard of a Filandi Ever S, and with good reason, it is a custom, hand built one-off that will likely never be recreated.  The modified SL features an unpainted aluminum body that looks to take the majority of its styling cues from the  SLR Stirling Moss.

A recent report indicates the first uncovered look at the Mercedes AMG GT will be revealed in September with the public debut following a month later at the Paris Motor Show. Set to go on sale at the beginning of next year, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT is rumored to have a starting price around 110,000 EUR.

Against the backdrop of the lighthouse at Nazaré in Portugal, one of the most famous surfing locations in the world, Gorden Wagener, Vice President Design Daimler AG, handed over four surfboards to Garrett McNamara. The Hawaiian surfing star and world record holder aims to use the boards, which he has developed in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, to “ride” the monster waves off the coast at Nazaré.

The four surfboards were designed and engineered by McNamara together with designers and engineers from Mercedes-Benz at the company’s Design Centre in Sindelfingen and subjected there to extreme testing, for example in the wind tunnel. Mercedes-Benz was responsible for the design and McNamara for the shape and weight of the boards. The key quest of the cooperation was to identify the ideal material and the perfect distribution of weight on the board. The boards, which were built in Portugal and are specifically suited to surfing on giant waves, each have a slightly different shape and have been tailor-made to McNamara’s weight and height. The joint project, under the name “MBoard”, represents an impressive example of the Mercedes-Benz motto: “The best or nothing”.

Surfing legend McNamara tested the boards for the first time from 2 to 13 February in Portugal, showing himself more than satisfied with the result. The cooperation could well be extended to further projects over the course of 2014; for example involving the use of telemetry to measure for the first time the precise speeds achieved by extreme surfers.

46-year-old Garrett McNamara, known in the surfing world simply as G-Mac, has been among the world’s leading surfers for many years now. He has become particularly well known for his spectacular rides on the huge waves off Hawaii, Alaska and Portugal. Since November 2011 he has held the record for the largest wave ever surfed, 24 metres, set off the coast at Nazaré. Garrett McNamara has surfed the gigantic waves of Nazaré at 62.4 km/hour. This maximum peak of speed was revealed by the surfer himself this Wednesday.

Youtube user, DrGumoLunatic, posted a spy video of what looks to be an updated Mercedes CLS63 AMG sporting minimal camo in Böblingen near Stuttgart, Germany.  What do you think, could this far departure from the previous CLS be the future four-door coupe.

Need a little motivation this morning, Mercedes-Benz released three new TV spots today, the first one entitled “Home”, the second video titled “The Last Time” and the third, “The Forgotten Roadtrip”, all with the Tagline  – The New GLA. Always Restless.  In otherwords, get off your butt, get out in a new GLA and do something fun before life passes you by.  Or atleast that was my take on it.

Turn on the TV and you’re bound to see a Mercedes-Benz commercial pop up at some point during your show, but, chances are that you’re not seeing the best of what Mercedes-Benz has in the ad department.  Not to worry, that’s what we’re here for, to bring you the more interesting Mercedes-Benz ad spots.

First up, Mercedes-Benz uses a cat to demonstrate just how aerodynamic the “world’s most aerodynamic production car” is.  No complaint emails please, no cats were injured in the filming.

For the new GLA45 AMG, Mercedes went with the tagline, “Freedom is Catching” and while we don’ condone letting an escaped convict run by without intervening in some way, we are huge fans of the new AMG model.

The Mercedes C63 AMG, the Porsche 911 GT3 or the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S, which is best choice for the track and on the road, and which one would you choose?  For me, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the C63 AMG is my favorite AMG, make it a Black Series and no other car in its class can really compare.  Just listen to the engine, it should win based on sound alone.
