Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé

The new coupé is the first four-door sports car from Mercedes-Benz and draws directly on the legendary SLS and AMG GT models

More space, more power, more goosebumps – the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door model delivers driving experiences in new dimensions and extends the AMG model family. The new coupé is the first four-door sports car from Affalterbach and draws directly on the legendary SLS and AMG GT models of success. As another vehicle developed autonomously by Mercedes-AMG it combines unique design, high comfort and outstanding sports car engineering with an athletic, four-door fastback layout. It thus offers more space and more potential uses. Systematic expansion of the AMG GT family with the 4-door Coupé opens up the sports car segment to those looking for a vehicle for day-to-day use, but unwilling to go without the unparalleled performance of Mercedes-AMG.

Longitudinal and lateral dynamics at the highest level, and a striking silhouette with classic proportions put the Mercedes-AMG GT 4‑Door Coupé in the portfolio of its two-door brother at first glance. The expressive design with the low bonnet, dominant front and muscular body language emphasises the sporty genes of the four-door coupé, which sets new standards as the youngest model in the AMG family: As the first four-door AMG GT model it combines high everyday comfort with diverse individualisation options and the latest sports car engineering.

“The new AMG GT 4-Door Coupé blends the impressive racetrack dynamism of our two-door sports car with maximum suitability for everyday use. It has a unique way of embodying our brand core, “Driving Performance” and with its systematic configuration it will attract new customers for Mercedes-AMG”, commented Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

The new AMG GT 4-Door Coupé delivers special driving experiences on all levels and with a top speed of up to 315 km/h and its driving dynamics it cuts an effortlessly superior figure wherever it goes. Powerful, up-to-date 6-cylinder in-line and V8 engines with outputs ranging from 320 kW (435 hp) to 470 kW (639 hp) allow completely new driving experiences and combine impressive performance with modern efficiency.

The interior of the first four-door AMG GT model is characterised by elegant coolness and also the latest features: innovative control panels can be intuitively operated and configured as required. The blend of high individualisation and sports car technology, placing yet more focus on the requirements of discerning customers, is also clear from the wealth of equipment packages and individual options. The latest coup from Affalterbach also lives up to the Mercedes-AMG brand pledge with regard to its high driving dynamics and sets the benchmark in its segment on the racetrack too.

Clear at first sight: the AMG GT family membership

Clearly recognisable as a member of the AMG GT family, the new AMG GT 4-Door Coupé follows the design philosophy of Sensual Purity. It takes the striking proportions with convex surfaces and a muscular body and develops them to exciting effect for a four-door variant of an AMG GT Coupé.

The front view with a long bonnet and two powerdomes leaves no doubt that this is the youngest member of the AMG GT family. The 4-door coupé follows the design tradition of the successful AMG GT models: the powerful body exudes dynamism and motivation. Sensuous shapes with convex surfaces lend the four-door GT timeless elegance, whilst the flowing silhouette with the lowered greenhouse flags up its sporting credentials. As in the AMG GT R radiator shutters, the Airpanel in front of the centre cooling air inlet improves the car’s aerodynamic efficiency. Slim MULTIBEAM LED headlamps, the AMG-specific radiator protection grille, the Shark Nose and the front apron with its enhanced Jet Wing (with a flowing A-Wing on the six-cylinder model) also lend the youngest model from Affalterbach the hallmark presence of the AMG GT family.

With frameless side windows and a flat windscreen inclined far to the rear, features of the classic coupé architecture are also cited. With the additional seat row in the rear the characteristic lines of the AMG GT models are not compromised. The tailored upper contours and broad shoulders point to the athletic, sporty orientation of the car, which is additionally emphasised by very pronounced rear wheel arches.

The rear view of the new 4-door coupé picks up on familiar features of the AMG GT design idiom: extremely slim LED tail lights define the hallmark boot sill line, the rear aerofoil extendable in several stages not only underscores the family affiliation; it is also an important element of the active aerodynamics.

The two eight-cylinder models can be identified through the three horizontal louvres in the side front air intakes, the Jet Wing with its trim element in Silver Shadow, the distinctive diffuser on the tail end and the two-pipe exhaust system with trapezoidal tailpipe trims. The six-cylinder variant, meanwhile, has one louvre in each of the air inlet grilles, round twin tailpipe trims and a somewhat less pronounced rear diffuser.

“The new AMG GT 4-Door Coupé is the ultimate four-door sports car and the ideal ambassador for Performance Luxury”, said Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Daimler AG. “It embodies a symbiosis of emotion and intelligence with breathtaking proportions and a puristic, surface-oriented design with sensuous shapes. It is both hot and cool at the same time.”

Visual emphasis on demand: the exterior packages

The new AMG GT 4-Door Coupé offers an extensive portfolio of exterior equipment packages, which can be used to add different highlights in terms of design. The Night Package comprises high-gloss black trim, whilst, for example, the Chrome package emphasises the luxurious character of the car with trim and an insert in high-gloss chrome. Two Carbon-Fibre Packages offer different versions of carbon-fibre trim, whilst the optional Aerodynamics package gives the car an even sportier look and is a new feature in this segment. It includes additional functional features in high-gloss black, the Jet‑Wing in Silver Shadow in the front apron and the fixed rear aerofoil and also naturally reduces lift at higher speeds. With the V8 style package the six-cylinder model can also be equipped with design features from the eight-cylinder versions.

Top sporting performance: V8 biturbo engines with up to 470 kW (639 hp)

The exciting AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine is already used in numerous AMG models. Its output has been enhanced yet further for the new Mercedes‑AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ (fuel consumption combined 11.2 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined 256 g/km)* and ensures superior performance on a par with a sports car. It delivers 470 kW (639 hp) and a maximum torque of 900 Nm, which is available over a wide engine speed range from 2500 to 4500 rpm. The top engine of the new four-door AMG GT thus exudes effortless superiority in every engine speed range. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds clearly illustrates this, as does the maximum speed of 315 km/h.

In the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ (fuel consumption combined 11.0 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined 252 g/km) the V8 unit provides 430 kW (585 hp) and 800 Nm maximum torque. The sprint from standstill to 100 km/h lasts just 3.4 seconds, and the top speed is 310 km/h.

The AMG 4.0-litre V8 engine works with the proven biturbocharging, where the two exhaust-gas turbochargers are arranged not on the exterior, but between the cylinder banks. The advantages of the “hot inner V” are in the compact engine design and the immediate response of the exhaust-gas turbochargers.

In the AMG GT 63 S variant the eight-cylinder has active engine mounts. They solve the conflicting goals of achieving as soft a connection as possible to the powertrain for high comfort and as rigid a connection as possible for optimum driving dynamics, by steplessly and quickly adapting their rigidity to the respective driving conditions. As an option the AMG GT 63 can be equipped with active engine mounts as part of the Dynamic Plus package.

* The stated figures (provisional data) were determined in accordance with the prescribed measuring method. These are the NEDC CO2 figures according to Art. 2 No. 1 Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/1153. The fuel consumption figures were calculated based on these figures.

Direct response: the two twin-scroll exhaust-gas turbochargers

Two twin-scroll exhaust-gas turbochargers combined with another innovative technology ensure even more output and better response. For the first time Mercedes-AMG is combining the advantages of twin-scroll technology in the V8 engine with turbine wheels mounted in anti-friction bearings. Through the mounting in anti-friction bearings, friction is reduced to an absolute minimum inside the exhaust-gas turbocharger. The twin-scroll technology also ensures that the exhaust gas flow is optimally utilised. Put together these both improved the immediate response of the four-litre eight-cylinder from AMG, which was already the benchmark. Through the optimised cylinder charge the output and the maximum torque was raised further. Spray-guided direct petrol injection with piezo injectors, the all-aluminium crankcase, the four-valve-per-cylinder design with camshaft adjustment, air-water charge air cooling, alternator management, the ECO start/stop function and the gliding mode have all been retained.

Improved efficiency: the intelligent AMG Cylinder Management

For maximum efficiency, Mercedes-AMG has also equipped the V8 engines with the AMG Cylinder Management cylinder deactivation system. In the partial-load range, cylinders two, three, five and eight are deactivated, which crucially reduces the fuel consumption.

When the driver has selected the “Comfort” drive program, the cylinder deactivation system is available in the wide engine speed range from 1000 to 3250 rpm. A special display on the instrument cluster states whether the cylinder deactivation system is in use and whether the engine is presently operating in the four- or eight-cylinder mode. The transition between these two operating states is immediate, fast and torque-neutral, so the occupants do not have to relinquish any comfort.

Powerful and versatile: six-cylinder engine with innovative hybrid function

Alongside the two V8 engines the new four-door sports car is also available as the Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4MATIC+ (fuel consumption combined 9.1 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined 209 g/km) with the innovative AMG six-cylinder inline engine. The 320 kW (435 hp) 3.0-litre unit is characterised by high performance, supported by a boost effect with an output of up to 16 kW (22 hp) and 250 newton metres of torque. The EQ Boost starter-alternator combines a starter motor and alternator in a powerful electric motor and is between the engine and transmission. This intelligent combination, along with efficient charging with the electric additional compressor (eZV) and exhaust air turbocharger helps ensure the hallmark AMG performance and driving dynamics but also cuts consumption and emissions at the same time. The four-door AMG GT 53 accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds, and achieves a top speed of 285 km/h.

More energy for yet more innovations: the new 48-volt on-board power supply

The EQ Boost starter-alternator in the new AMG GT 53 also generates the power for the 48 V on-board electrical system. This in turn uses a DC/DC converter to supply the conventional 12 V network for the lights, cockpit, infotainment displays and control units. Through the 48 V battery the battery capacity of the entire car is increased, which means that more electrical energy can be made available for new functions. The 48 V on-board electrical system thus also paves the way for the progressive expansion of infotainment and assistance systems.

Emotive gearshifting experience: the AMG SPEEDSHIFT transmission

The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G 9-speed transmission is specially tuned to the requirements of the eight-cylinder variants of the new four-door AMG GT. A wet clutch is used here. This reduces weight and inertia and optimises the response. The extensively tailored software enables extremely short shift times and fast multiple downshifts and delivers an especially emotive gearshifting experience thanks to the double-clutching function. There is also a RACE START function, ensuring optimum acceleration.

The six-cylinder inline engine is coupled with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission. In conjunction with the torque converter the transmission is tuned to the special requirements of this engine. On the other hand, the extremely fast and emotive gearshifting characteristic of an AMG model is also possible depending on the drive program.

In total: the high driving dynamics of the AMG GT

In order to meet the high demands of impressive driving dynamics, Mercedes-AMG engages all the components this takes. With its sophisticated design the bodyshell of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63/53 plays an equally crucial role as the ingenious control strategy of the all-wheel drive system. And it is only in the optimum interplay together with the active aerodynamics, the rear axle steering and the ESP® that the complicated suspension tuning unleashes its full potential. Through the complex networking of all the systems and components the developers in Affalterbach were able to bestow on the car the high level of driving dynamics expected of it as a member of the AMG GT‑family.

Structure made in Affalterbach: the rigid AMG bodyshell

One aim during development of the new four-door AMG GT was to anchor the genes of a sports car in the bodyshell. In order to do this, analysis and simulation methods from racing were used in order to reinforce the structure where necessary for maximum performance. The very rigid front section prevents unwanted distortions about the longitudinal and transverse axle, which ensures precise steering and better feedback for the driver.

In the area of the centre and tail end of the vehicle new reinforcement concepts were used in conjunction with state-of-the-art CRP plastics. This, together with further individual measures plus close networking with Chassis Development right from the outset, ensured that the four-door AMG GT was given an optimum basis for high lateral dynamics potential.

Dynamism made in Affalterbach: the AMG chassis engineering

The outstanding agility and racetrack-ready driving dynamics of the four-door AMG GT are also down to the special AMG suspension. On the six-cylinder model a suspension with steel springs and adjustable damping is used as standard. The suspension on the eight-cylinder variants is based on the fully load-bearing multi chamber air suspension AMG RIDE CONTROL+. A rigid integral carrier bears the front axle, engine, transmission and steering gear.

In conjunction with the wide track width and the configuration for large tyre dimensions, wheel location and spring elements which are independent of one another facilitate high lateral acceleration, whilst the low unsprung masses promote the agile driving feel yet further.

The rear axle differential also has a new specially reinforced mount to improve the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) characteristics. As on the AMG GT R, an anti-roll bar made of tubular material reduces the overall weight of the rear axle.

Intelligent all-wheel drive: AMG Performance 4MATIC+

All AMG GT 4-Door Coupé models are equipped with the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. An electro-mechanically controlled clutch connects the permanently driven rear axle variably to the front axle. The best possible torque split is continuously computed according to the driving conditions and driver’s input. The transition from rear-wheel to all-wheel drive and vice versa is seamless, as the intelligent control is integrated into the overall vehicle system architecture. Alongside traction and lateral dynamics, the all-wheel drive also improves the longitudinal dynamics for even more powerful acceleration.

It is still possible to drift thanks to fully variable torque distribution. The Drift Mode is suitable for this; in the S version of the four-door AMG GT it is standard, and in the other models it is available as an option. This can be activated in the “RACE” drive program using the shift paddles, provided that ESP® is deactivated and the transmission is in manual mode. When activating the Drift Mode the four-door sports car thus turns into a model with purely rear-wheel drive.

Optimum traction: rear-axle limited-slip differential

To improve traction and dynamism the AMG GT 63 S has an electronically controlled locking differential at the rear axle as standard. The slip is thus suppressed at the inner wheel on bends, ensuring optimum grip. The driver is therefore able to accelerate out of corners earlier and with more power thanks to the improved traction. The vehicle remains more stable when braking from high speed, while the limited-slip differential also improves traction when accelerating from rest. The electronic locking differential is part of the Dynamic Plus package and in this combination it is also optionally available for all further variants of the four-door AMG GT.

Enhanced agility and precision: the active rear-wheel steering

The AMG GT 4-Door Coupé responds even more sensitively to steering commands thanks to the active rear axle steering which comes as standard in the V8 models and is optional in the six-cylinder versions. The system facilitates an even better combination of agility and stability and thus reinforces the dynamism and the handling safety of the new AMG GT four-door model.

Up to a speed of 100 km/h, the rear wheels point in the opposite direction to the front wheels via two electric actuator motors. As a result, the car turns into corners with significantly higher agility. Under everyday driving conditions, the driver also benefits from a smaller turning circle.

At speeds higher than 100 km/h, the system turns the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels. That noticeably improves driving stability. At the same time, the lateral force on the rear wheels builds up considerably faster on changes of direction, thus improving the response to the steering. The driver can also rely on extreme rear-axle grip and high stability when changing direction quickly, without the usual tendency for the rear end to break out.

Direct and immediate: AMG speed-sensitive sports steering

The electromechanical speed-sensitive power steering has a variable ratio. It impresses with its precise feedback thanks to the AMG-specific rack-and-pinion steering with a variable ratio. Power assistance also varies between the three stages “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport+”. The corresponding characteristic is automatically activated depending on the selected AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission mode or can be personalised as required in “Individual” mode.

Good control and fade-resistant: the AMG high-performance braking systems

In line with the high output values and their associated performance the eight-cylinder models have a large-dimensioned brake system consisting of compound discs with 6-piston fixed callipers at the front and single-piston floating brake callipers at the rear. The S variant is characterised by yellow brake callipers, whilst the base variant of the eight-cylinder sports red brake callipers.

The six-cylinder model is also equipped with internally ventilated and perforated compound brake discs with brake callipers painted silver grey.

As an option a high-performance ceramic brake system with bronze-coloured 6-piston fixed callipers at the front and single-piston floating brake callipers at the rear can be ordered, saving weight compared with the compound discs and thus reducing the unsprung masses. Further advantages are their high overall and fading stability under high stress. The brake system also wins points with a high service life and immediate response – guaranteeing fast lap times.

Design and lightness: the new AMG wheels

To make a grand entrance – both visually and technically – the four-door AMG GT Coupé is shod in generous wheel/tyre combinations. The customer can choose from a multitude of aerodynamically optimised disc wheels between 19 and 21 inches. Alongside their visual design the developers Affalterbach placed great emphasis on reducing the unsprung masses. It is above all the light-alloy wheels produced using high-quality forging technology, which set the benchmark yet again with their extremely low weight.

The AMG GT 53 and GT 63 variants of the four-door AMG GT Coupé sport standard-specification 10-spoke disc wheels painted vanadium silver in the size 9.5 J x 19 H2 ET 22 and 255/45 R 19 tyres at the front, plus 11.0 J x 19 H2 ET 17 with the tyre size 285/40 R 19 at the rear.

The AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ wears light-alloy wheels with five twin spokes painted tantalite grey with a high-sheen finish, in the dimension 9.5 J x 20 H2 ET 22.5 with tyres 265/40 R 20 at the front, plus 11.0 J x 20 H2 ET 20 and tyres 295/35 R 20 at the rear.

Fluid science: the active aerodynamics

A significant contribution towards the high driving dynamics and handling safety is made by the active aerodynamics, which has been tuned to the special requirements of the four-door coupé in extensive simulations, wind tunnel tests and road testing. The main components are the active air control system AIRPANEL in the front apron and the compact, multi-stage retractable and extending rear spoiler. The intelligent interaction of the active aerodynamics features ensures the optimum combination of power output and low wind resistance. The system is also oriented towards the respective driving style and the drive program selected.

On the AIRPANEL familiar from the AMG GT R there are vertical louvres located in the lower section of the front apron. These electronically controlled louvres are opened and closed in a flash via an electric motor in order to steer the air flow and thus ensure the aeroperformance/the necessary engine cooling requirements.

The multi-stage rear spoiler works according to a similar principle, by adopting the position required for the operating conditions. During fast driving on straight stretches the rear aerofoil automatically moves to a flatter position in order to reduce wind resistance and thus increase the maximum design speed. If the system detects lateral dynamics the spoiler moves to a steeper position in order to increase power output at the rear axle and thus ensure handling that is dynamic and safe in equal measure.

Added downforce: the optional Aerodynamics package

As an exclusive in its market segment the new AMG GT 4-Door Coupé can also be equipped with an Aerodynamics package on request. It contains additional flics and an enlarged front splitter, which further optimises the air flow and output level at the front axle. The same applies to the modified diffuser in conjunction with the fixed rear aerofoil, which is also available in carbon fibre if desired. The three-dimensional wing profile can be manually adjusted, in order to adapt the car to the conditions of different race circuits, for instance. The Aero package increases the negative lift force at the rear axle, but the wind resistance remains unchanged.

Yet more differentiation in driving experiences: AMG DYNAMICS

Depending on the engine there are up to six drive programs to choose from in the four-door AMG GT: “Slippery”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport+”, “RACE” and “Individual”. These levels are selectable via the gearshift paddle in the centre console and stored with the new drive program attribute AMG DYNAMICS, which can be adjusted to match the AMG GT 4-Door Coupé’s handling characteristics to different demands and driving conditions in a much more differentiated way.

Behind the umbrella term AMG DYNAMICS are the agility functions “Basic”, “Advanced”, “Pro” and “Master”, which are automatically selected by the respective drive program. Parameters relevant to driving, such as the response of the engine, suspension, the control strategy of the all-wheel drive system and the control thresholds of the completely redeveloped ESP® are intelligently adapted according to the drive program.

The spectrum ranges from extremely safety-oriented to highly dynamic. The “Master” mode stored in the drive program RACE ensures optimum agility and brings out the high driving dynamics potential of the new member of the AMG GT family to optimum effect – for example through higher yaw rates and a faster response from the accelerator pedal, gearshift system, rear axle steering, electronically controlled rear axle locking differential or brake force distribution on the all-wheel drive system.

Irrespective of the drive programs, as before the driver can use the display buttons in the centre console to directly select manual transmission mode, their favoured suspension level and also the exhaust system, for instance.

Gran Turismo with ultramodern operation: the new AMG interior

The interior presents a symbiosis of performance and exclusivity and integrates an ultramodern, new type of operating system into the atmosphere of a Gran Turismo. The sculptural instrument panel forms an interesting contrast here to the large trim element with its flowing style, which merges into the driver’s door in a wrap-around effect. Illuminated turbine-look air vents refine the high-quality impression and underline the sporty appearance. The eye-catching feature in all AMG GT interiors is the centre console with its stylised V8 design, putting the spotlight on the brand’s performance claim as well as optimally fulfilling functional requirements.

Two high-resolution displays each measuring 12.3 inches dominate the Widescreen Cockpit, which is standard in the V8 and optional in the inline 6-cylinder version. Three different styles are available for selection for these all-digital displays: “Classic”, “Sport” and the completely new “Supersport”. Depending on the driving style or interior equipment, the different styles can be set at any time via the instrument cluster or the central display.

Via the left-hand Touch Control Button on the steering wheel, preferred information can be projected onto the left- or right-hand side of the instrument – for example, the classic speedometer and tachometer, information on navigation or assistance systems through to detailed engine data. Especially sporty drivers can also fade in a g-force display or the current output and torque values.

In the “Supersport” view there is also extensive additional AMG-specific information, such as a prominent prompt to change up a gear in manual transmission mode, reminiscent of motorsport.

The central display represents the interface to all further content and information, such as navigation, radio, media, telephone and vehicle data. The large full-screen map view ensures optimum legibility in all driving situations. There are also extra performance-oriented functions, such as visualisation of the all-wheel drive.

With additional functions as an option: the new performance steering wheel

The new AMG performance steering wheel blends ideal ergonomics with maximum functionality. Various functions are combined in groups on the sporty-style wheel with a high-quality touch and feel and can be precisely and intuitively controlled via Touch Control Buttons in the steering wheel. The driver to controls the entire infotainment system using finger swipes, without having to take their hands off the steering wheel.

As an option the performance steering wheel can be equipped with extra innovative features. They consist of a round controller with an integral display beneath the right-hand steering-wheel spoke, plus two vertically positioned colour display buttons beneath the left-hand steering-wheel spoke.

The AMG drive programs can be actuated directly via the controller. The selected drive program is shown on the colour TFT display directly integrated in the controller.

With the two freely configurable display buttons and the additional switches, further AMG functions can be controlled within easy reach, directly on the steering wheel. This means that the driver can concentrate fully on dynamic driving without having to take their hands off the wheel. Each function required can be depicted on the other TFT display, and its switch is tapped by the driver to set the respective function. The driver’s two preferred AMG functions can be defined in this way and the settings changed with just one tap of the finger.

Display buttons and capacitive switches: the innovative centre console

Inspired by the two-door Mercedes-AMG GT, the centre console of the new 4-door model represents a further special feature.

A new and unique feature comes in the form of the colour display buttons, integrated into the distinctive and tailor-made trim element, for the integral display and control of the transmission logics, suspension, ESP®, exhaust system, start/stop function and rear aerofoil. With their TFT technology the display buttons use coloured, intuitively comprehensible symbols to show the function and are easy to operate with just a small tap of the finger.

The display push button switches are supplemented by the two capacitive switches for the drive programs and volume control.

Another new feature at AMG are the capacitive switches directly in front of the stylised centre-console V. The reversing camera, navigation, radio, media, telephone and vehicle settings can be operated via this proximity switch. If the finger moves within a minimal distance from the panel the appropriate symbol lights up directly in the head unit and preselects the menu item. The function in question is then activated by pressing. The driver does not have to avert their gaze, as the appropriate menu item is shown simultaneously in the multifunction display of the Widescreen Cockpit, representing an added bonus for handling safety.

Space as needed: four or five seats to suit requirements

When it comes to the seats, too, Mercedes-AMG proves that comfort and exclusivity need not conflict with a performance-oriented vehicle configuration. The driver’s and front passenger seat can be configured in different scenarios. The selection ranges from the sporty, comfortable seat and a seat with elegant diamond quilting to an extremely contoured performance seat with an integral head restraint.

The four-door AMG GT also offers different seating configurations to meet all demands for the rear, too. These range from an asymmetrically folding rear bench seat for the family to two variants with two individual seats respectively. The High-Class variant has everything a business saloon requires. The rear passengers can select diverse features via a touchpad screen integrated into the console between the seats. The features range from calling up the dynamism data via the AMG menu to controlling the ambient lighting or the climate control and seat heating.

The boot capacity of up to 395 litres is supplemented by around a further 60 litres beneath the boot floor. With the backrests folded down the capacity is up to 1324 litres. The wide load compartment opening makes it easier to load and unload luggage and other items. As an option, the large boot lid can be opened and closed with the HAND-FREE ACCESS feature via a movement with the foot beneath the bumper.

Always in touch with Connectivity and Intelligent Drive

For high comfort in everyday use the new four-door sports car from Affalterbach boasts all the connectivity and Intelligent Drive functions and options of the Mercedes-AMG S-Class. These include partially automated driving with the DRIVE PILOT, which can support the driver with routine daily tasks such as driving in a traffic jam.

In addition to the standard functions of Mercedes me connect, such as eCall, Accident Recovery, Breakdown Assistance and Customer Service, Remote Online (included as standard with COMAND Online) offers a range of convenience features via smartphone. For example tracking the parked vehicle, controlling the auxiliary heating, locking/unlocking the vehicle and checking the status of the mileage, fuel level or range, for example, among other things.

The vehicle as a virtual race engineer: AMG TRACK PACE

With AMG TRACK PACE, drivers can feel like Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, and capture and analyse in detail over 80 vehicle-specific data as well as times on the racetrack. AMG TRACK PACE is an additional function of the COMAND Online infotainment system and is part of the standard equipment for the AMG GT 4-Door Coupé.

Data collected on lateral and longitudinal acceleration, the accelerator and brake pedal or steering angle help record and continuously improve individual Driving Performance. All the values are shown on the COMAND display, on request also in real time on the telemetry screen. Thanks to the different colours and acoustic feedback used, faster or slower laps can be spotted out of the corner of the driver’s eye without any need to look away from the track. Even the drift angle of the car is calculated and displayed.

As well as recording drives on circuits, AMG TRACK PACE can also be used to register acceleration such as the sprint from standstill to 100 km/h or over a quarter of a mile as well as deceleration values.

Sporty room fragrance: fuel for the senses

The interior of the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé has another world premiere in store. For the first time an AMG car has its own room fragrance. It is an appealing, sporty scent to match the spirit of the performance brand.

The new AMG GT 4-Door Coupé can also be fitted with the ENERGIZING comfort control for improved driver-fitness safety. This system networks different vehicle functions such as the air conditioning system, seat control, massage functions, steering wheel heating and ambient lighting, in order to relax or refresh the driver and passengers in a targeted manner with predefined programs.

Exterior with exclusive carbon fibre-look bonnet and rear spoiler

The special design of the SLS AMG GT FINAL EDITION ensures that it stands out in visual terms: the carbon fibre-effect bonnet with central air outlet, the carbon-fibre front splitter on the front apron, the fixed carbon-fibre rear aerofoil that is so reminiscent of the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series and the exclusive AMG forged light-alloy wheels make it a real head-turner. Particularly in conjunction with the designo magno graphite matt paintwork that has been adopted from the collector’s model, the SLS AMG GT3 “45th ANNIVERSARY” (available as an option), the carbon fibre components and the AMG forged wheels have a distinctly sporty flair. To add to the distinctive visual impression when seen from behind, the struts of the rear apron are finished in high-gloss black.

New aerodynamic components comprising a carbon-fibre bonnet, rear aerofoil and front splitter reduce the lift on both the front and the rear axle. As on the SLS AMG Coupe Black Series and the SLS AMG GT3, the carbon-fibre bonnet of the SLS AMG GT FINAL EDITION features a central air outlet. Apart from effectively dissipating engine heat, this outlet also increases downforce at the front axle and improves the Cd value. The engineers at AMG have utilised the vacuum effect to deliver the double benefit of dissipating the hot air from the engine compartment at the same time as drawing up the cool airflow from the vehicle’s underbody. The optimised aerodynamic balance not only improves the car’s potential on the racing circuit, but also contributes to handling safety.

With an output of 435 kW (591 hp) at 6800 rpm and maximum torque of 650 newton metres at 4750 rpm, the high-revving eight-cylinder engine guarantees dynamic driving at its finest. The SLS AMG GT FINAL EDITION accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, and can reach 200 km/h in 11.2 seconds. The top speed is 320 km/h (electronically limited).

Fast-reacting, variable and emotionally exciting – the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission proves to be the perfect match for the V8 naturally aspirated engine. With four shift programmes, RACE START and an automatic double-declutching function, the dual-clutch transmission mounted in a transaxle configuration on the rear axle brings with it the perfect prerequisites for top performance. The particularly dynamic shift characteristics, and the shorter reaction time when selecting gears manually, enhance the emotional experience for the driver. The AMG RIDE CONTROL performance suspension with variable, electronically controlled damping, includes the “Sport” and “Sport plus” programmes.

MERCEDES SLS AMG GT FINAL EDITION Designo Seats

Interior with designo Exclusive leather in a diamond pattern

It is not only the exterior design and the engineering of the SLS AMG GT FINAL EDITION that will satisfy the most discerning of tastes, but also the interior: the high-quality ambience is characterised above all by the striking designo Exclusive leather in a diamond pattern that is used to upholster the centre panels of both the seats and the doors. Contrasting topstitching in silver coordinates perfectly with the black leather upholstery, the silver seat belts and the black floor mats edged in silver leather. Carbon-fibre trim comes as standard.

A particularly exclusive detail is the “AMG FINAL EDITION – 1 of 350” badge on the carbon-fibre centre console. A further high-quality feature, both to look at and to feel, is the so-called “3D seam”: a fine strip of Alcantara® set into the leather-covered instrument panel demonstrates the attention to detail that is so typical of Mercedes-AMG. Contrasting topstitching skilfully hand-worked in silver adds the finishing touch to the 3D seam, underlining the craftsmanship involved. The AMG Performance steering wheel in Alcantara® with silver 12 o’clock markings all-round and a high-gloss black real metal insert matches the high-gloss black surrounds of the air vents. The sports seats feature an embossed AMG emblem in the head restraints.

MERCEDES SLS AMG GT FINAL EDITION

Tremendous variety, terrific success story

Whether Coupé, Roadster, GT, Black Series, Electric Drive, the GT3 racing version, the new FINAL EDITION or – last not least – the Official F1® Safety Car in the Formula 1® World Championship: the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG has been causing a stir since 2009. The output of the models with road-going approval ranges from 420 kW (571 hp) to 552 kW (751 hp).

The super sports car celebrated its world premiere in its Coupé guise at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt/Main in September 2009, with the market launch taking place in the spring of 2010. The spectacular gullwing model was followed in 2011 by the SLS AMG Roadster and the customer-sport racing model, the SLS AMG GT3. With various titles in international championships such as the ADAC GT Masters, the FIA GT3 European Championship and the FIA GT1 World Championship, as well as over 100 victories in race series on five continents, the racing version of the gullwing model has impressively demonstrated its extraordinary performance. In particular, long-distance successes in the Bathurst 12-hour race and the 24-hour races in Dubai, at the Nürburgring, in Spa-Francorchamps and in Barcelona have spectacularly confirmed the competitiveness of the racing gullwing model. In 2013 alone, the SLS AMG GT3 2013 thus claimed the “grand slam” of classic GT3 long-distance races, with four victories in succession. In the hotly contested Blancpain Endurance Series, the SLS AMG GT3 similarly won the championship title in 2013.

Since early 2010 the SLS AMG has also been ensuring safety in Formula 1, the ultimate motor racing series, as the Official F1® Safety Car. The FORMULA 1 SHELL BELGIAN GRAND PRIX in September 2012 saw the SLS AMG GT take over this role.

In June 2013 came the market launch of the two most powerful variants: the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series with 464 kW (631 hp) and the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive with 552 kW (751 hp).

Mercedes SLS AMG Final Edition Revealed

The mysterious AMG teased this week was the highly anticipated Mercedes SLS AMG GT Final Edition

Earlier this week, Mercedes AMG teased us with a few close-ups of a mystery AMG model, and today, Mercedes-Benz has revealed the mysterious AMG in all its carbon glory.  It is the 2014 SLS AMG GT Final Edition. The last hurrah if you will for the Mercedes SLS AMG.  The Final Edition will be built in a limited run of only 350 vehicles that will feature a same V8 6.3-liter engine, capable of outputting 591 HP (435 kW), that has been carried over from the standard SLS AMG GT version.

Making the Final Edition extra special is a carbon fiber hood and front splitter, as well as a redesigned front bumper and new brakes. You’ll also notice an updated rear wing and carbon side mirror housings, with darkened light surrounds.

Official details on the SLS AMG GT Final Edition will be revealed next week in Los Angeles and Tokyo when the new AMG model has its first public outings.

The SLS AMG replacement has already been announced and will debut  in 2014, likely wearing an “SLC” badge. Currently codenamed the “C190”, it will be smaller than the current SLS and have a lower starting price.  It is expected to receive the newly developed V8 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine that is rated at 493 bhp (327 kW).  The same engine currently slated to power the next-gen C63 AMG.

Mercedes SLS AMG Wrapped in Rose Gold

Notorious rapper Tyga wrapped his Mercedes SLS AMG in shiny rose gold and glossy black wheels

Last month, Tyga, a rapper for those not in the know, showed off his Lamborghini Aventador with Rose Gold wrap. And while it seems smitten with the rose gold hue, he doesn’t seem quite satisfied with the Lambo itself as the rapper has now upgraded to a rose gold Mercedes SLS AMG.

In addition to its shiny new exterior, the Mercedes SLS also received a set of custom wheels finished off in Gloss Black for contrast and to ensure that you don’t miss the SLS when it rockets by you.

2015 Mercedes-Benz SLC AMG Spied

The new Mercedes SLC will be go head to head against the likes of the Porsche 911 and Nissan GT-R

Last week, Mercedes-Benz revealed photos of its upcoming SLC AMG model, scheduled to go on sale in North America in early 2015.

The original photos came officially from Mercedes AMG and revealed a heavily camouflaged sports car that is significantly smaller than the current SLS AMG. This new sports car from Mercedes will be go head to head against the likes of the Porsche 911 and Nissan GT-R. The guys over at GMotors grabbed some great shots of the new SLC right alongside a Nissan GT-R so that we could really compare the two. Even under heavy camo, we’re already fans of the SLC with it’s styling similar to to its SLS AMG big brother.

We’re told however that when the SLC goes into series production that it will drop the SLC title in order to distance itself from the SLS as it will not share any of it’s mechanics.

Whatever it’s title will be, the min-SLS sports car will likely be powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 capable of producing around 485 hp with a variant that produces a 500+ hp and possible a Black Series model developing around 600 hp.

Enjoy the photos and check back often as more photos are revealed.

2015 Mercedes SLC AMG Spy Photos

The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT prototype codenamed C190 was recently spied testing and we have the photos

The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT prototype codenamed the C190 was recently spied testing and thanks to our good friends at GMotors, we have the photos below.  Back in 2011, we began hearing rumors that Mercedes was planning a “baby SLS” dubbed the SLC but as more information has been leaked, some are now calling it the SLS AMG successor.  As fans of the more retro styled SLS AMG, we certainly hope it’s the former.

The SLC AMG (aka.SLS AMG Successor) will target younger buyers with more modern styling than the current SLS. It will have traditional doors instead of the gullwing doors and its engine will be an AMG-built V-8.  And, with the AMG division’s love of all-wheel-drive cars lately, it will probably also be AWD. It will also be smaller and lighter and far less expensive than the current model in order to compete with cars like the Porsche 911 or the Jaguar F-Type.

As news on the baby SLS surfaces, we will be sure to bring it your way.  In the meantime, check out the photo gallery below or our friends across the pond, GMotors.  HT: Andrus

Mercedes SLC Due Out in 2016

The lowest price point on the SLC AMG, expected out in 2016, would be €109,000 in Germany, a little more than a 911 Carrera S

We saw the first photos of what we believe to be a brand new model from Mercedes AMG, the SLC AMG.  Some reports indicate it could be a replacement for the SLS yet we’ve yet to receive a definitive answer and so for now we’ll treat it as a new model.  The new SLC would be Mercedes’ answer to the Porsche 911 in terms of pricing and most certainly performance.

At the time, the early stage prototype heavily borrowed the SLS body design but with a shorter wheelbase.  But while little was known about the baby SLS at the time, German magazine Auto Bild has revealed new information.

The lowest price point on the SLC AMG, expected out in 2016, would be €109,000 in Germany, a little more than the 911 Carrera S but less than the 4S. The Mercedes SLC will be powered by a new AMG engine called the M177, the engine is expected to make its world debut in the next-gen C63 AMG next year. In it’s base version, the SLC will output 485 HP and will possibly offer an S-Model with upwards of 550 HP. The SLC S-Model make quite a price jump and start around €145,000.

Mercedes SLS AMG Wrapped in the UAE National Flag

Video of the Mercedes SLS AMG showing off its United Arab Emirates National Flag wrapping

On Sunday, the UAE celebrated its 41st anniversary. In response to the event, the people of the UAE celebrated their independence day with lavish displays of personal wealth. After all, they have the 7th highest per capita income in the world. Supercars in the UAE are a dime a dozen, and the Mercedes SLS AMG is no exception, at least until we saw this one.  Wrapped in the UAE’s national flag, we are certain this one of a kind SLS AMG will gain attention as it drives through their streets.

FAB Design Mercedes SLS Gullstream – A Look Back

The FAB SLS Gullstream needs only 3.6 seconds to spring to 100 km/h and after just 11 seconds it has left the 200 km/h mark behind

Quite possibly the most radically built Mercedes SLS  to date, FAB Design’s widebody SLS tuning program, dubbed the Gullstream, remains at the top of our list. Originally revealed more than a year ago, I recently saw one of these beauties while on a family vacation at our hotel and had to give you a second look.

Even better looking in person, the FAB Design SLS Gullstream is a widebody kit that features an all new front bumper, fenders, side skirts, rear quarter panels, rear bumper and rear diffuser. A lip spoiler made of carbon fiber is probably the most subtle of all the upgrades while the roof receives a non-functional air scoop.

For wheels, the SLS AMG runs a staggered 10-inch and 12-inch wide setup of three-piece Evolution wheels that feature a concave design. Suspension duties are handled with Koni’s coilovers that can also be found on the SLS GT3 race car, giving the car that ‘stance’ look. FAB has also designed their own quad-tipped exhaust system for the SLS AMG.

Overall power gains goes from 563-hp to 607-hp.

Mercedes-Benz Takes Home Three First Place Awards from Auto Zeitung

The Mercedes-Benz M-Class, SLS AMG Coupe and SLS AMG Convertible all won the first place Auto Trophy Award

The readers of the motor magazine Auto Zeitung have chosen the new Mercedes-Benz M-Class the best off-roader in the over 30,000 euros price segment. In addition, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG took first place twice – the Roadster as best convertible in the over 30,000 euros segment and the Coupé variant as best super sports car – for the third time in a row. All three models received the prestigious “Auto Trophy”. The awards were accepted at Meilenwerk in Düsseldorf last night by Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Professor Dr Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management responsible for Group Research and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars Development, and Dr Joachim Schmidt, Member of the Management of Mercedes-Benz Cars, responsible for Sales and Marketing.

This was the 24th annual readers’ poll conducted by Auto Zeitung to determine the best cars of the year. Almost 100,000 readers cast their votes, choosing the new Mercedes-Benz M-Class as the best car of the year in the “over 30,000 euro off-roader segment”. Following on from the “Goldenes Lenkrad” award, this is the second readers’ poll to be topped by the third generation of the successful SUV, which was only presented in June 2011.

The readers valued not only the characteristic and distinctive design and variable interior, with that all-important sense of wellbeing, but also the excellent energy efficiency and thus environmental acceptability of this premium SUV. The permanent all-wheel drive system of the Mercedes-Benz M‑Class also proved a determining factor thanks to its well-balanced ride comfort along with excellent driving dynamics, both on and off road, along with the car’s outstanding range and high level of safety.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Gullwing Coupé has topped the readers’ poll as best super sports car for the third time in succession. The open-top SLS Roadster simultaneously scooped the award in the over 30,000 euros convertible segment to give the SLS a double victory this year. The super sports car owes this outstanding position to its fascinating lines, which evoke memories of the legendary 300 SL from the 1950s. But it backs this up by exquisite engineering and technology, including aluminium body, AMG 6.3 litre V8 front mid-engine with dry sump lubrication, a power output of 420 kW (571 hp) and 650 Newton metres of torque, 7-speed double clutch transmission in transaxle configuration and agile sports suspension with aluminium double-wishbone axles. This unique combination of high-tech features guarantees the very highest level of driving dynamics both in the Gullwing Coupé and in the Roadster.

Traditionally, Mercedes-Benz vehicles always figure prominently in voting for the best cars of the year’s crop. In 2010 the Mercedes-Benz CLS and, for the second time, the SLS AMG were awarded the “Auto-Trophy”, while the year before the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and once again the SLS AMG came away with top honours.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Now Available With AMG RIDE CONTROL Sport Suspension

Pressing the shock absorber symbol allows adjustment of the damping characteristics to either Comfort, Sport or Sport Plus

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is now even more attractive and individual thanks to the new high-tech option of the AMG RIDE CONTROL sport suspension with adaptive damping that combines concerted performance-orientation with optimal comfort on long journeys. Blind Spot Assist improves active safety on board the gull-wing model. Further optional features such as AMG 10-spoke forged wheels painted in matt black, red-painted brake callipers or AMG high-gloss black trim make for even more exclusivity.

A glance at the center console of the SLS AMG not only reveals the stylishly designed, new E-SELECT lever with its embossed AMG emblem, but also a new shock absorber symbol in the AMG DRIVE UNIT. This key symbolises the new AMG RIDE CONTROL sport suspension with variable, electronically controlled damping. Depending on the driving situation, speed and road surface conditions, this optional system almost instantly varies the damping characteristics and automatically reduces the body roll angles. For the driver this means immediate and variable adaptation between the greatest possible agility and the best possible ride comfort – for any driving style and route.

Maximum individuality: “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport plus”

A small key with a major effect: pressing the shock absorber symbol allows individual, convenient adjustment of the damping characteristics. There is a choice of three modes: “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport plus”. The currently selected mode is shown in the AMG main menu.

“Comfort” is automatically active whenever the engine is started, and provides a sensitive damper responce with comfort-oriented characteristics. “Comfort” is recommended for cruising at moderate speeds – e.g. in urban traffic or on motorway sections with speed restrictions. But even on poor, bumpy road surfaces, “Comfort” mode will be the first choice of many SLS AMG drivers by virtue of the softer damper setup.

To select “Sport” mode the key in the AMG DRIVE UNIT is pressed once. The left control lamp in the key and the AMG main menu display tell the driver that “Sport” mode has been manually activated. In “Sport” mode the shock absorbers have a tauter response depending on the driving situation, which not only ensures better road contact when driving in a sporty manner, but also more effectively reduces body roll and pitching. In most driving situations, “Sport” mode provides the best compromise between satisfactory suspension comfort, low body movements and high agility.

“Sport plus” is recommended for fast lap times on a race circuit: apart from higher damping forces, this mode has special control algorithms configured for a decidedly sporty driving style on uneven road surfaces. The driver is able to store his personal setup using the AMG key in the AMG DRIVE UNIT. Sustained pressure on the AMG symbol stores the currently selected suspension mode and also the selected transmission mode. As before, the driver has four different transmission modes available: fuel economy mode “C” (Controlled Efficiency), “S” (Sport), “S+” (Sport plus) and “M” (Manual). Brief pressure on the AMG key quickly and conveniently activates the preferred combination.

With immediate effect, the new AMG RIDE CONTROL sport suspension is available on request for the SLS AMG Coupé and Roadster. Alternatively the gull-wing model is available with the basic AMG suspension or the AMG Performance suspension, both without variable damping characteristics.

Numerous parameters monitored by electronics

The electronic damper control is based on acceleration sensors which register dynamic vehicle body and wheel movements, both absolutely and in relation to each other. Other factors relevant to the driving dynamics, such as drive and braking moments, the steering angle and lateral/linear acceleration are continuously registered and evaluated. The current vehicle speed, wheel rotation speeds and selected gear ratios are also continuously analysed. High-performance control electronics in permanent dialogue with the engine and transmission control unit ensure that the forces of the four newly developed shock absorbers are adapted practically instantly.

Depending on the selected suspension mode, different control configurations and parameter weightings are active to strike the best possible balance between comfort and dynamic performance. Electromagnetically actuated valves in the shock absorbers control the oil flow between the lower and upper chamber. In “Comfort” mode more oil flows through the valves, and less in “Sport” and “Sport plus” mode.

Double wishbone suspension of forged aluminium

All four wheels are located on double wishbones with a track rod, a technology that has proven itself in motor racing right through to Formula 1. With a double-wishbone axle, the wheel location and suspension functions remain separate; the spring/damper struts are supported on the lower wishbone. The double-wishbone concept with its high camber and track rigidity positively locates the wheel with minimal elastic movements, providing the driver with an optimum sense of road contact when driving at the limits.

Wishbones, steering knuckles and hub carriers at the front and rear are made entirely from forged aluminium – substantially reducing the unsprung masses; this configuration also notably improves the suspension response. The long wheelbase of 2680 millimetres not only results in outstanding straight-line stability but also low wheel load shifts, significantly reducing the vehicle’s tendency to dive and squat when braking and accelerating. The broad track width – front 1682, rear 1653 millimetres – ensures lower shifts in the wheel loads from the inner to the outer wheel when cornering, enabling the tyres to retain more grip.

The chosen solution with a front-mid-engine plus transaxle configuration ensures an ideal front/rear weight distribution of 47 to 53 percent. Mounting the engine behind the front axle has created the ideal conditions for consummate driving dynamics with precise steering, first-class agility, low inertia with spontaneous directional changes and outstanding traction.

Direct steering, differential lock and 3-stage ESP®

The rack-and-pinion steering gear provides a consistently direct steering feel with a constant mechanical ratio of 13.6:1, in tune with the high expectations placed on a super sports car. The power steering provides speed-sensitive assistance and improves feedback for the driver as the road speed increases: an indispensable factor for high-speed straight-line driving. Mounting the steering gear in front of the engine on the integral subframe enables the engine to be set down very low. The SLS AMG comes with 3-stage ESP® as standard, providing the driver with access to the three “ESP ON”, “SPORT Handling mode” and “ESP OFF” modes at the touch of a button. In “ESP OFF” mode too, vigorously operating the brake pedal restores all the normal ESP® functions.

The acceleration skid control (ASR) system’s traction logic is active in all three ESP® modes. If one of the drive wheels starts to spin, specific brake pressure is applied to improve traction significantly – especially in conjunction with the standard-fit mechanical multi-disc limited-slip differential. This means that the engine power is transferred to the road even more effectively when driving in a particularly dynamic style.

Blind Spot Assist increases active safety

The new, optionally available Blind Spot Assist is able to increase active safety. This visual and acoustic warning system uses the close-range radar sensors of the standard PARKTRONIC system to recognise vehicles in good time where visibility is restricted. When the system registers another vehicle in the blind spot, this is indicated to the driver by a red triangle lighting up in the relevant exterior mirror. An acoustic warning also sounds if the driver operates the indicators despite the visual warning.

Blind Spot Assist is operational from a speed of 30 km/h. It monitors the area around the vehicle to a distance of around 3.5 metres on each side and three metres beyond the rear. Vehicles in the process of overtaking are shown immediately when they enter the monitored area of the difference in relative speeds between the two vehicles is not more than 16 km/h. Vehicles that have just been overtaken are however shown with a delay of 1.5 seconds after entering the monitored area, thus preventing distraction by unnecessary warnings.

New optional appointments for more style and design

Available as an optional extra, the car’s visual appearance is enhanced by weight-optimised AMG 10-spoke forged wheels shod with tyres in size 265/35 R 19 (front) and 295/30 R 20 (rear). Their matt black paint finish corresponds perfectly with the high-sheen rim flange. Optional red-painted brake callipers all-round provide a further visual highlight.

Single-tone or two-tone designo leather in espresso brown is available as a new interior colour – this dark shade of brown perfectly matches the new metallic paint finish AMG Sepang brown. New AMG high-gloss black trim (optional) is an exclusive alternative to the standard centre conslole in solid metal or the optional carbon-fibre trim.

All prices for the new features at a glance (incl. 19 % VAT):

  • AMG RIDE CONTROL sport suspension with adaptive damping: € 2320.50
  • AMG 10-spoke forged wheels with matt black paint finish and high-sheen rim flange: € 3272.50
  • Red-painted brake callipers: € 714.20

Mercedes AMG, Ducati and Cigarette Partner to Become Ménage of Motorsports

"The Ménage of Motorsports," a dynamic display of performance machines, will be seen at the 2011 Miami International Boat Show

While the Mercedes AMG and Cigarette Racing Team alliance began based on the dedication to performance and perfection of these two luxury brands share, that synergy has now extended to another stellar performance brand, Ducati. “The Ménage of Motorsports,” a dynamic display of performance boats and two and four-wheeled vehicles, will be seen at the 2011 Miami International Boat Show, in Cigarette’s Booth B-23. The Ménage of Motorsports-the three luxury brands of Cigarette, Mercedes AMG and Ducati, are also partners on the AMG for members only “Private Lounge” website.

In the motorcycle industry, the name Ducati means performance and is one of the most sought-after name brands. As Germany is respected for its fine automobiles, Italy has earned admiration for creating the ultimate motorcycle for leisure and racing. Several Ducati bikes will be on display, including a Diavel, the 1198 SP, Multistrada and the Monster 1100 EVO. The Ducati brand completes the motorsports trifecta, adding two-wheeled power to the winning performance mix.

The new Cigarette 42X Ducati Edition, customized with Ducati’s signature white with a bold red stripe, is on display at the Cigarette booth and will feature another new addition to the Penchant for Performance. Mercury Racing has again added an engine to its line to accommodate every performance boater’s need-and selected Cigarette to make the debut. “Mercury Racing knows that Cigarette will put our time, effort and expertise behind its newest ventures,” says Skip Braver, president and CEO, who has taken Cigarette to new heights under his 9-years of ownership. “As we have with each new engine, our teams have worked together to validate the performance, ensuring that not only Cigarette customers, but all of Mercury Racing’s customers, benefit from the joint effort,” he adds. The new engine boasts 1,100 HP and #6 drives, representing a bridge between the SCi engines and the 1350 HP QVC4V engines that made their debut at the 2010 Miami Boat Show in the Inspired by AMG 46′ Cigarette.

The Ducati boat will also feature a new venture in sound as Cigarette teams with JL Audio. This purpose-built, updated sound system was designed specifically for Cigarette and includes digital amplifiers, time-aligned tweeters and a specially designed “bass array” subwoofer system. The new sound stage will enhance the listening experience, providing immersion rather than blaring onboard music. JL has tested and engineered the new efficient and attractive set up for Cigarette and its American-made design complements the American-made boat.

“As the three brands of Cigarette, Mercedes AMG and Ducati have joined forces, we find a synergy uniting us,” Braver states “It’s not just about going fast, it’s about how we design, build and create value and loyalty in our brands,” he adds.

In addition to the Cigarette array of powerboats and Ducati bikes, a special feature, a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT-3 Race Car was flown in from Germany to supplement Cigarette’s salute to motorsports. This racing version of the SLS AMG gull-wing was created specifically for motorsports–for customers who compete in sprint or long-distance races. Its aerodynamic design lines and a 6-speed racing transmission with shift paddles provide the performance and success on the track that verifies AMG’s commitment to motorsports since its introduction in 1967.

“The Evolution of Cigarette” adds to the show display as Miami dealer, Phil Lipschutz of Lip-ship Performance, a National and World Title holder in the American Power Boat Association (APBA) displays two boats depicting his particular Penchant for Performance–a matching nostalgic 20′ and a new 50′ Marauder model. The Marauder is the largest Cigarette in the model line and though the 20′ is no longer built, it represents the smallest of the line to date. “It just shows that when it’s a Cigarette, size doesn’t matter!” says Skip Braver, President and CEO.

The 50′ Marauder is Lipschutz’ “Poker Run Edition” and was built with a new deck to enhance the aesthetic style of the boat. Though a minor change, the modification of the deck demonstrates Cigarette’s on-going effort to tweak and perfect each of its models. The Marauder is also the first 50′ Cigarette with 1350 HP SVC4V engines. The set up and balance of the new engines was highly optimized in this debut edition.

The 39 Top Fish center console adds another dimension to Cigarette’s powerboat lineup. This high-performance Cigarette was designed as a lifestyle offering, combining top-power with the convenience and ease of a center console. The 2011 model will sport a new fiberglass T-top that provides more sun coverage, aerodynamics and integrated LED lights. Triple Mercury Verado 300 engines power the boat which with 418 gallon fuel tanks, offers range, ensuring you get to your destination quickly-whether it’s your favorite fishing spot or a day of fun with friends and family. Added features of this performance recreational boat are a large stand-up head and shower, an additional transom shower, 40 gallons of fresh water, finished hatches-inside and out, and fully customized Cigarette options like painted hull, billet trim, storage, live wells, coolers, upholstery and embroidery. The Top Fish, available in both cuddy cabin and open-bow configurations, enjoys popularity not only domestically, but in the Middle Eastern and European markets.

Other Cigarette models on display will include a 46′ Rider with Mercury Racing 1350 engines and the M8 drive and the ever-popular 39 Top Gun Unlimited with Mercury Racing 700 SCi engines and #6 drives.

Cigarette’s dedication to personalization will also be demonstrated in the Cigarette Exclusive Design Studio set up in the booth for customers planning to build their new Cigarette. The “If you’ve seen one, you’ve seen one” slogan applies since each Cigarette is built to order with no two boats exactly alike. “All of our customers have their own preferences for color, style, logos and personalization,” says Braver, “We cater to that desire to customize by providing a wide range of options from paint, upholstery and embroidery to custom accessories and instrumentation. Your Cigarette is truly your creation and now we have a vibrant new palette of custom colors from Spies Hecker from which to choose as well,” he adds.

Cigarette will continue its focus on technology and product updates. “We listen to what our customers want and deliver a model range that fits every boating lifestyle,” says Braver, “If you are a boater, you will enjoy boating even more in a Cigarette. If you’re not a boater, Cigarette will make you want to be!”

Mercedes AMG Partner With Italian Motorcycle Manufacturer Ducati

AMG and Ducati ideally complement each other, as both companies share the same value - racing as the driving passion

AMG and Ducati will work together closely in future. The initial aim of the cooperation between the performance brand from Affalterbach and the Italian manufacturer of high-performance motorcycles is to develop common marketing activities. The cooperation agreement was signed Wednesday, November 17, during a press conference at the Los Angeles Auto Show, by Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Gabriele del Torchio, President and CEO of Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A.

“I am very pleased that we are able to announce our strategic cooperation with Ducati today. AMG and Ducati ideally complement each other, as both companies share the same values: racing as the driving passion, and high performance plus exclusivity as the central brand messages of both AMG and Ducati. This long-term cooperation will help us to jointly access new customer groups,” said Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

“I am especially proud to have AMG as one of our sponsors for the MotoGP Team. I am also very pleased that our joint marketing activities are well under way. In AMG we have found a partner who perfectly reflects our brand values of high performance, motorsport, excitement and our sense of unmistakable style and design,” said Gabriele del Torchio, President and CEO of Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A.

The first visible results of the cooperation between AMG and Ducati will be joint marketing and sponsoring activities. AMG will support the Ducati MotoGP Team as an Official Car Partner from 2011, for example. During selected AMG events, participants will be able to take test drives with Ducati motorcycles, and Ducati customers will similarly have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the latest AMG high-performance cars at events.

Joint events are planned for the members of the AMG Private Lounge, in which more than 13,000 AMG customers worldwide are registered.

The partners are currently examining the further activities and strategic steps they might undertake together in the near future.

Ducati and AMG: racing, high performance, exclusivity

Founded in 1926, Ducati initially produced components for radios. From 1946 Ducati focused on the manufacture of motorcycles, and gained a first-class reputation in the two-wheeler sector over the subsequent decades. Today this motorcycle manufacturer based in Bologna, Italy stands for performance with cutting-edge technology, numerous motorcycle racing victories and characteristic design. The brand image ideally complements that of AMG.

AMG was founded in 1967, and is seen as a pioneer in motorsports and performance enhancement. In the following years AMG developed from a two-man operation to a company of worldwide renown. Numerous racing victories, technological tours de force born of the racetrack, unique high-performance cars and an unmistakable brand experience such as e.g. the AMG Driving Academy have come together to form a decidedly exclusive brand image.

Founded in 1999, Mercedes-AMG GmbH is an autonomous vehicle manufacturer. As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler AG, AMG is responsible for all development processes relating to the chassis, engine, suspension, brakes, electronics, aerodynamics, interior and design, right up to final approval of the complete AMG car. Mercedes-AMG GmbH also manages all marketing and sales related aspects in its own right.

The SLS AMG as a masterpiece in AMG’s history

The SLS AMG presented in 2009 is an automotive masterpiece from Mercedes-AMG GmbH. As the first automobile independently developed by the company, the super-sports car is the highlight in AMG’s more than 40-year history. It not only takes AMG into a new era, but also demonstrates development expertise of the very highest order.

AMG’s special focus is on the heart of any automobile, namely the engine. The company’s core expertise in developing and producing powerful engines has been assiduously perfected right from the start. In the ultra-modern AMG engine shop, highly qualified specialists follow the traditional “One man – one engine” philosophy to produce high-performance AMG V8 and V12 engines to the highest quality standards.
