Nürburgring Testing for the Maybach Replacing S-Class – Video

The new S-Class Maybach is reportedly based on the S 65 AMG, using the familiar 621bhp 6.0-litre V12 engine

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is already available as a saloon in two wheelbases and a sporty coupe. In total there will be six body variants, meaning three more models will follow soon.

One of the new models is the Maybach 57 replacing S-Class that has a bit longer wheelbase than the current extended wheelbase model, offering even more leg room and of course a long list of entertainment and luxury options.

The new S-Class Maybach is reportedly based on the S 65 AMG, using the familiar 621bhp 6.0-litre V12 engine. In addition to a stretched wheelbase the car also has new bumpers. The only disguise the prototype has is around the modified C-pillar and rear side glass.

The outgoing Maybach was not very successful as back in 2010 Daimler managed to sell just 200 units. We have a feeling the new model will do much better, but is it going to be a popular alternative to Bentley Mulsanne and Rolls-Royce Phantom is hard to tell.

In addition to a new Maybach, an even longer variant called S-Class Pullman with 2+2+2 seating will also follow soon, replacing the Maybach 62.

Mercedes S-Class Extra Long Wheelbase Spied

Mercedes has confirmed that the S-Class range will be completed by six model variants, based on spy photos will include an extra long wheelbase

We’ve seen the Mercedes S-Class standard wheelbase, the S-Class long wheelbase, for the speed hungry among you, the monstrously powered-yet-luxurious S63 AMG.  But the fun doesn’t stop there, ladies and gentlemen, as there are even more variants of their top of the range Mercedes S coming.

Mercedes has confirmed that the S-Class range will be completed by six model variants, stating “there will be now three new models in addition to the short-wheelbase and extended wheelbase variants and the S-Class Coupe”.  Why so many?  With Maybach gone, Mercedes has opted to seek the same market share of the outgoing brand, and they’ve decided the standard wheel base isn’t going to do it.

In the latest spy photos, we see can see that Mercedes is adding an extra long wheelbase variant to the S-Class lineup.  Unlike the upcoming S-Class Pullman, that will have 6 seats (formed by three rows of two), this new extra-long wheelbase S-Class sticks to the traditional two rear seats, but adds approximately 200mm over the conventional long wheelbase variant.  Think of it as the middle ground between the long wheelbase S-Class and the S-Class Pullman.  Hit the gallery below to see more.

As we previously discussed, the pullman model’s additional length will come from the rear doors and C-pillar, extending the passenger cabin.  Check out the gallery below for a 360 degree look at the S-Class Pullman.

Mercedes S-Class Pullman Targets Rolls-Royce

Mercedes-Benz is directly targeting it's Rolls-Royce Phantom rival with the S-Class Pullman, revealed by Daimler chairman Dieter Zetsche

With the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Pullman, Mercedes is looking to directly target it’s Rolls-Royce Phantom rival, as revealed by Daimler chairman Dieter Zetsche.

Zetsche recently confirmed with UK’s Autocar that “Mercedes-Benz has conceived and developed the new S-class to support six different models, along with three different wheelbases in a move aimed at broadening its reach at the top end of the luxury car ranks”.

At the very top of the S-Class lineup will be the ‘Pullman’ variant, designed to take the place of Daimler’s discontinued Maybach brand, the S-Class Pullman will be the crown of the future Mercedes-Benz line-up.

The S-Class Pullman will be based on an extra-long-wheelbase version of the S-class, measuring in at around 236.2 inches long with around a 138 inch wheelbase.  It will receive several luxurious styling touches unique to the model, most notably, the ultra luxury model will gain a distinctive grille that will give the S-Class a more noble appearance over it’s S-Class brethren.

“We will continue in the market segment above €200,000 [£170,000],” said Zetsche. “It is important that Mercedes-Benz is represented. We have tradition at this level.

“We see a chance to extend our leadership at the top end of the luxury car market. We plan to extend the number of models, and a Pullman is included in those plans.”

Zetsche also confirmed that the new S-Class, due to go on sale this fall, will eventually be sold with the choice of three wheelbases in selected markets. Wheelbases will include standard, long and extra-long wheelbases — the long added to the line-up for key markets like China who desire limousines in key markets such as China.

Adding to the S-Class lineup, Mercedes plans to unveil their CL replacement, the S-Class Coupe at the Frankfurt motor show this September. The new coupe S-Class, which will likely be debuted initially as a concept, will be the base for the next S-Class model, the S-class Cabriolet, scheduled to go on sale toward the end of 2014. The S-Class Pullman is slated to be unveiled in May of 2014, so stay tuned.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Pullman Scheduled for May 2014 Unveiling

The Maybach replacing Mercedes-Benz S-Class Pullman will reportedly be unveiled in May 2014

According to our good friends at MBPassion, the Maybach replacement, also known as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Pullman, will be unveiled in May 2014. And while it may not receive the same grandiose unveiling as the newly designed 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class had a little over a month ago, we have no doubt Mercedes will give it a proper welcoming party.

The new S-Class sedan is currently offered in both a short wheelbase measuring 3035 mm (119.4 inches) and a long wheelbase 3165 mm (124.6 inches). The longer pullman model will reportedly have a 3465mm-3515mm (136.4-138.3 inches) a 300-350 mm addition. It will also be around 6000 mm (236.2 inches) long compared to the LWB’s 5246 mm (206.53 inches).

The S-Class Pullman will be primarily directed at the Chinese market where long wheel base variants are extremely popular, take for example the E-Class Long that was unveiled in Shanghai in April exclusively for the Chinese market.

Spy photos of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Long-Wheelbase showing the interior for the first time.

Scheduled for its official world premier one month from now, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is one of the most highly anticipated redesigns of the year. A few weeks ago we brought you the very first photos of the Mercedes S-Class undisguised and now, thanks to our good friends at MBPassion, we have the latest photos showing the long version of the 2014 S-Class .

Nearly ten months ago, we reported that the new Mercedes S-Class was going to be offered in a few different variants with multiple wheelbases and engine options. This is to be Mercedes way of filling the gap following Maybach’s closure. The Mercedes S-Class we see here is likely the long-wheelbase version (codenamed V222, 207.87 inches long, 7.08 longer than the standard-wheelbase car). Looking for something even longer, their is a rumored extra-long wheelbase version, which will measure in 13.78 inches longer than the standard car (codenamed X222 and 214.57 inches in length). And if this car still isn’t long enough for you, don’t despair as Mercedes-Benz is also working on a Pullmann with six doors with a total body length of 226.38 inches.

Stay tuned as we will continue to bring you the latest news on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class with full coverage on May 15.

2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Launch Date Confirmed

The next generation Mercedes-Benz S-class will be revealed in Hamburg on May 15, Daimler chief Dieter Zetsche has revealed

Daimler chief Dieter Zetsche has stated that the next generation 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-class will be revealed in Hamburg on May 15.

“The S-class is the most important car of all to us, Its success makes us stronger going forward,” said Zetsche.  A statement we couldn’t agree more with, especially now that the Maybach brand is gone, being replaced by a broader and more luxurious range of Mercedes-Benz S-Class models. The Mercedes-Benz brand has far better name recognition and a stronger base which should cause for greater success in the super luxury market.

“We can sell more cars at better prices with the S-class,” Zetsche said. “Pushing the S-class upmarket will also further strengthen and balance the Mercedes brand at the top end just as we are going smaller with the A-class range of cars.”

Zetsche also confirmed that being revealed next year will be the next generation C-Class, another important model for Mercedes, especially in the Chinese market.  Strong sales of the new E-Class and upcoming C-Class will be necessary to close the gap between Mercedes, Audi and BMW.

Mercedes C-Class Cabrio Confirmed by Steve Cannon

The new cars will range from the US's smallest CLA-Class, to a stretched version of its biggest, the super-luxe S-Class

Mercedes-Benz is about to embark on what its new U.S chief executive says its biggest growth phase ever in the U.S., refreshing or replacing 19 existing models while adding 11 new models in segments where it has never competed on the way to 2020.

The new products will range from a new, smallest Mercedes in the U.S., the CLA Class, to a stretched version of its biggest, the super-luxe S-Class. There will even be a convertible version of the compact C Class to lure younger buyers.

“That’s a nonstop product cadence,” says Steve Cannon, CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA in an interview with USA TODAY about the expansion only a week after divulging his plans to dealers around the country, meeting in Las Vegas.

It’salso a bold bet. Despite increasing competition from other automakers, Cannon believes there will be enough new and existing luxury customers to roll out the bevy of new vehicles.

He says he doesn’t think thje new automotive eye candy will be cannibalizing customers from other Mercedes models. “In most cases, our expansion really provides us with an opportunity to talk to a new customer,” he says.

Where will those new customers come from? He already knows: Gen Y, the millennials. With the leading edge now in their early 30s, Cannon says many are ready to step into the luxury market. And the goal is to keep them through all their driving years, moving successively up the model ladder with every promotion and raise.

“We’re a brand we think can absolutely connect with them,” Cannon says. “Gen Y is just coming of age. We get on their radar screen in a big way.”

One big lure: the new, small CLA and various iterations — small, more fuel-efficient and as Mercedes-Benzes go, more affordable. It’s coming for 2013, along with a redone E Class, a critically important sedan for Mercedes, and the new S Class flagship.

Another big lure: The droptop version of the C Class will give Mercedes the chance to offer an affordable convertible, a compact that should also draw in Gen Y, he says. Right now, the lowest-priced Mercedes droptop is an E Class costing more than $50,000.

The seventh generation of the S Class will come in an extended version that adds 10 inches to the wheelbase. “It all goes into the back seat,” he says. One benefit of the new version will be to try to lure customers who might have considered the Maybach, which has been discontinued. “We’re now offering a really awesome alternative,” Cannon says.
