The very special exterior equipment details of the S‑Class Coupé “Night Edition” include its distinctive radiator grille with a single louvre in high-gloss black, together with 20‑inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels. The exclusive wheels are painted black and feature a high-sheen rim flange. The exterior mirror housings and the inserts in the side sill panels are likewise in high-gloss black. Front and rear aprons with AMG bodystyling come as standard, as do the “Night Edition” badge on the front wings and the illuminated door sills with Mercedes-Benz lettering. Paintwork in selenite grey magno is available as an option. This is a matt paint finish from the designo manufaktur range and features particularly high-quality special-effect pigments.

One of the exclusive features in the interior is the engraved “Night Edition” name on the insert of the AMG sports steering wheel in nappa leather. Upholstery in leather, nappa leather or AMG nappa leather in black/black or optionally crystal grey/black, saddle brown/black or Bengal red/black, along with high-gloss black poplar wood trim, similarly serve to emphasise the car’s individual character.

Boasting a stylish appearance, exclusive equipment and refined sportiness, the S‑Class Coupé combines the classic proportions of a Gran Turismo with modern luxury and state-of-the-art technology. The “Night Edition” is available in three different engine variants, as a S 400 4MATIC Coupé, S 500 Coupé or S 500 4MATIC Coupé.

S-Class Coupé – Europe’s Dream Car

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé has emerged as the overall winner in a Europe-wide vote for the Internet Auto Award 2014

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé has emerged as the overall winner in a Europe-wide vote for the Internet Auto Award 2014. As a result, the exclusive two-door car has earned the title of the best car in Europe.

Some 69 new car models released onto the market in 2013 (up to the spring of 2014) were put forward for the grand online survey for Europe’s largest online car market “AutoScout24”. And no fewer than 191,363 online users located in Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, Spain and Switzerland cast their votes for the 12th Internet Auto Award. This online jury voted for the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé as the overall winner. It impressed voters with its breathtaking design, refined sportiness and avantgarde technology, which includes for example the optionally available curve tilting function which takes driving pleasure and comfort to a new level.

In addition, other models from Mercedes-Benz also took some of the top positions – for example the Mercedes-Benz CLA in Belgium and Spain, and also the Mercedes-Benz GLA in Switzerland and the Netherlands.

A Look at Mercedes’ Magic Body Control

Cars fitted with Active Body Control suspension have hydraulic cylinders or 'plungers' fitted to the suspension struts in order to adjust the forces in each strut individually

It is well over a decade since F400 Carving concept and 15 years since Mercedes introduced Airmatic air suspension in the W220 S-Class. So when it comes to this kind of thing, Stuttgart has form.

Magic Body Control

Curve Tilting allows up to 68mm of lean

The Curve Tilting function is an extension of the existing Magic Body Control system. Cars fitted with Active Body Control suspension have hydraulic cylinders or ‘plungers’ fitted to the suspension struts in order to adjust the forces in each strut individually. Depending on the type of corner being dealt with, the base point of each strut is moved allowing the vehicle to incline into the curve, adjusting automatically and continuously depending on the information from the sensors.

Stereo cameras in the screen read the road ahead and prime the suspension to react to surface undulations. With the curve tilting function, the cameras also read upcoming corners and, in conjunction with an additional lateral acceleration sensor providing information about speed and steering angle, allow the car to lean by up to 68mm into the bend like a skier or motorcyclist.

The focus, according to the engineering team, is on enhancing passenger comfort. They were keen to stress that the system does not increase corner speed and in fact dials back the effect when you drive more aggressively and switches out altogether at speed of over 180kph (112mph).

It does feel a little odd at first from the driving seat, the motion not quite what you expect. From the passenger seat it is more remarkable – not only does the car feel to be stable through the turns but there is little sensation of being pushed outwards by the lateral G. Instead you sit down firmly in the seat. The upshot is that you aren’t thrown about by cornering. A strange sensation but an effective system.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe – Interior Design

Not even the smallest detail was overlooked in the interior design of the new Mercedes S-Class Coupe

The interior design of the new S-Class Coupé is an expression of the Mercedes-Benz design idiom – sensual purity. An enthralling combination of sculptural sensuous volume elements and components, and the clear geometry of its basic architecture create an avant-garde design idiom. A high class appeal, quality workmanship and exceptional touch and feel are a treat for the passengers’ senses, so that the car’s interior represents the highest level of “modern luxury”.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Interior

The S-Class Coupé’s dashboard fascinates with its spectacular architecture, giving rise to a vehicle of unique character in the upper coupé segment. The dashboard is divided into a very clear top-layer section with an expansive “wrap-around” effect extending to the doors, and an extremely low, sculptural “floating” lower section. This striking architecture was made possible by repositioning the airbag to a completely new low location. This concept enables the large, two-part wide-screen format TFT display to be placed in a prominent “hovering” position in front of this trim surface. In addition, it is stylishly highlighted with an ambience lighting corona. Under the display, the sporty elevated centre console extends to the vehicle rear. All lids and armrests are lavishly covered in leather.

The new “Super Sport” steering wheel impresses with its powerful, galvanised spokes which create maximum depth for the steering wheel, as if they flowed out from the steering column.

The use of the finest materials, surfaces, color combinations and seam designs contributes towards achieving a truly exclusive car interior. Air vents, switches, belt extender rosette and trim elements are in electroplated “Silver Shadow”. This gives the trim elements a particularly high value appeal and enhances the three-dimensional effect of their surfaces.

In front of the armrest the touchpad (optional) can be found, with its black high-sheen surface and chrome-look surround. As on a smartphone, the touchpad allows all the head-unit functions to be operated using finger gestures. The touchpad also permits letters, numbers and special characters to be entered in handwriting – in any of the head unit’s languages. Diverse controls, e.g. for the multi-media system, are arrayed as keys in a semicircle in front of the central control element.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Interior

Both the front and the rear seats have a pronounced sporty character, the two rear seats are designed as individual seats. The Exclusive package optionally includes seats in Exclusive nappa designo leather with a striking diamond backstitching pattern on backrests and seating surfaces. The front-seat seatbelts are integrated in the rear side panelling without interrupting the waistline with windows open; seatbelt extenders make them easily accessible for the seat occupants.

There is a fluid transition between the doors and the rear side panelling, emphasising the vehicle’s well-being quality. Here too, surfaces and controls are masterfully executed in top-quality materials; the configuration with the Burmester® surround sound system and Burmester® High-End 3D surround sound system offers a special highlight in form and function.

New interior colors such as Bengal red, saddle brown and porcelain allow individualisation of the interior. The standard ambience lighting with several lighting moods provides the corresponding wellness character. The customer can choose from seven lighting moods.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe – Exterior

The design of the new Mercedes S-Class Coupe features a flowing profile of perfect proportions

The flowing profile of the S-Class Coupé embodies sensual purity in a modern way. It is characterised by typical rear-wheel-drive proportions, emphasised by the hallmark Mercedes dropping line. The long bonnet with pronounced lines and powerdomes, the low greenhouse with high beltline, the accentuated wheel arches as well as the large wheels (18- to 20-inch) and the broad visual effect created by the rear reinforce the S-Class Coupé’s aspirations as a masterpiece of automotive refinement. With a wheelbase of 2945 mm, the Coupé is 5027 mm long, with a width of 1899 mm and a height of 1411 mm.

S-Class Coupe Exterior

Its convex and concave modelled surfaces lend the S-Class Coupé a sensuous character. The sculpted appearance lends it classic elegance that forms a perfect symbiosis with the modern-progressive design idiom.

The view from the side is marked by the dropping line in keeping with the emotional character of the vehicle. It underscores the brand-typical proportions like a signature. The lines are deliberately reduced to the basics. This creates a sensual, timeless purity.

The creative interaction of diverse design elements lends the S-Class Coupé a superior, self-confident front: in the centre of the vehicle front end is the further-evolved three-dimensional diamond radiator grille, whose structure is defined by rectangular, chrome-plated elements. It incorporates the central Mercedes three-pointed star and one louvre.

The full-LED headlamps with their iconic eyebrows as daytime running lamps lend it an extremely self-assured and distinctive gaze. On the S-Class Coupé the eyebrows have been further refined with a semi-circular counter-curve. In combination with the standard LED Intelligent Light System, unique headlamps with no less than 47 Swarovski crystals are available. 17 angular crystals form the flare-shaped daytime running lamps, with 30 round-shaped crystals making up the turn indicator lamps.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe Headlamps

The side profile is defined by the dome-shaped stretched roof line and the frameless doors. An elegant 3D continuous chrome frame surrounds the glass areas that are uninterrupted by B-pillars. This underscores the Mercedes-typical coupé look.

A muscle above the rear axle extending from the side wall generates a sense of lightness and dynamic spirit even at a standstill. The positively arched surfaces and lines of the side walls flow into the rear end with a dramatic tapered effect.

The rear end with its surfaces, broad shoulders and distinctive character lines rounds off the emotive overall appearance. Moving the license plate mounting to the lower part of the rear bumper is a particularly striking modification. It allows the boot lid to be made especially sleek in this area. The three-pointed star is, so to say, free-standing and can thus be made more prominent for greater effect. In addition it pivots outwards in order to locate the reversing camera and the optional 360° camera in an elegantly functional manner.

The arrangement of the LEDs in two horizontal rows in the two-piece tail lamps reveals cutting-edge technology and underscores the sporty character of the vehicle rear, careful attention to detail and the car’s premium value. Form and function fuse into a perfect unity. Part of the light functions is located in the wings, the other in the boot lid. This characteristic arrangement makes the vehicle highly recognisable by night, too.

The two-part rear bumper underscores the sportiness indicated by the front design. The diffusor, painted in high-sheen black, meets in equal measure the requirements made by aerodynamics and by design. Below it there is, as in the front bumper, a horizontal wing in silver look. Integrated in the diffusor are the premium-quality tailpipes.

Mercedes S-Class Coupe Rear

The S-Class Coupé features a panoramic roof extending over two-thirds of the entire vehicle roof; with a surface area of around 1.32 m2, it appears almost 150 percent larger than on the predecessor model. MAGIC SKY CONTROL makes it possible to switch the transparency of the roof at the push of a button, from light to dark. When light, the roof is almost completely transparent and allows an open-air experience, even in the coldest weather. When dark, light transmission i.e. the proportion of outside light that is allowed through into the interior, is reduced to less than 1% and thus effectively diminishes heating up of the vehicle. In addition, it is possible to shade the interior completely by means of a roller blind.

“As exclusive as it gets – the ultimate in aesthetic sportiness”, stresses Ola Källenius, Member of the Board of Management, Sales and Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars. “The breathtaking design of the Concept S-Class Coupé marked by sporty-classic proportions and sensual purity is transferred to the series-production S-Class Coupé virtually unaltered. The large coupé has always been the supreme pinnacle of our model range and that’s why it’s now called the “S-Class” again.”

“The world premiere of the active curve tilting function demonstrates the possibilities offered by Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive,” notes Prof Dr Thomas Weber, member of the board of management of Daimler AG with responsibility for corporate research and Mercedes-Benz Cars development. “The vehicle leans into bends much like a motorcyclist, thereby reducing the lateral acceleration acting on the vehicle’s occupants. On country roads in particular, this means greater driving pleasure and ride comfort for our customers.” The new S-Class Coupé will have its world première at the Geneva International Motor Show (6 – 16 March 2014); distribution to dealerships is scheduled for the second half of 2014. The two-door car is available with a 4663 cc V8 biturbo engine. The S 500 Coupé has a nominal output of 335 kW (455 hp), its torque level peaks at 700 Nm. The sporty motoring experience is significantly enhanced by the emotional sound produced by the exhaust system.

Mercedes S500 Coupe

Mercedes S500 Coupe

MAGIC BODY CONTROL, the first “suspension with eyes”, had its world première in the S-Class. With the curve tilting function the Coupé introduces a further world first for series-production cars: The Coupé leans into bends in a manner similar to a motorcyclist or skier. The lateral acceleration acting upon occupants is reduced in a way akin to when driving in a steep curve, and passengers sit more firmly. On country roads in particular, the new curve tilting function enhances motoring enjoyment and comfort.

Like the S-Class Saloon, the new Coupé is available with numerous new assistance systems that make driving even more comfortable and safer. The “Intelligent Drive” systems include, among other things the PRE-SAFE® brake with pedestrian detection, DISTRONIC PLUS with Steer Assist and Stop&Go Pilot, BAS PLUS with junction assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive High-beam Assist Plus and Night View Assist Plus. COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS features an additional function apart from the adaptive brake assistant, which provides collision protection from a speed of 7 km/h: if there remains a danger of collision and the driver fails to respond, the system can carry out an autonomous braking manoeuvre at speeds of up to 105 km/h, thereby reducing the severity of collisions with slower or stopping vehicles. The system also brakes in response to stationary vehicles at a speed of up to 50 km/h, and is able to prevent rear-end collisions at up to 40 km/h.

As in the saloon, the PRE-SAFE® preventive occupant protection system has been expanded through the inclusion of PRE-SAFE® PLUS. PRE-SAFE® PLUS can recognise an imminent rear-end collision and warn following traffic by flashing the rear hazard warning lights at a high frequency. If the danger of a collision persists, the system can also firmly apply the parking brake on the vehicle stationary and thus minimise the risk of whiplash injuries by reducing the forward jolt caused by an impact from the rear.

Numerous optional equipment features are available to make the interior of the S-Class Coupé exceptionally luxurious and comfortable. For example, the AIR‑BALANCE package including the components “fragrancing” and “ionisation” is available, as is the electric armrest heating as a component of the Warmth Comfort package. If the vehicle is equipped with the optional Seat Comfort package, the front seats feature the ENERGIZING massage function based on the hot-stone principle.

In cooperation with high-end audio specialists Burmester, two especially high-value audio systems have been developed: the Burmester® surround sound system and the Burmester® High-End 3D surround sound system.

Design: sensual purity at its most beguiling

Sensual purity as an expression of modern luxury – this was the focus for the designers, and is the design philosophy of Mercedes-Benz. The aim is to create clear contours and smooth surfaces that showcase high tech while radiating emotional appeal. The sensual purity is reflected in the core design values of tradition, emotion and progressivism. These make up the guiding star, and are accentuated differently depending on the model. Mercedes-Benz creates a bridge between modernity and the avant-garde, between tradition and progressivism. Each model series has an assigned role and a very specific character, depending on the attributes on which the design focuses. And yet a Mercedes-Benz is always recognisable as a Mercedes-Benz. Because in addition to incorporating new stylistic developments, and in the interests of keeping tradition alive, the designers draw from a gene-pool of styling features typical of the brand.

“Our new S-Class Coupé is one of the most gorgeous coupés of all times, representing the most radical aesthetic departure from its predecessor,” says Gorden Wagener, Vice President Daimler AG. “The sensuous flowing silhouette in interplay with the clear progressive design language forms a perfect symbiosis and expresses our philosophy of sensual purity with pithy precision.”

Traditionally the top of the Mercedes-Benz product range is occupied by the grand coupé and the Concept S-Class Coupe provides a clear vision of what will fill in that spot. With its sexy appearance and bold style it embodies the design philosophy of sensual clarity.  Or to put it quite simply, it looks amazing! The interior features spectacular architecture and  exclusive appointments ensuring the four-seater defines state-of-the-art of modern luxury.

“The new S-Class Sedan was received enthusiastically in the market and perfectly lives up to its role as a representative of the power of innovation of Mercedes-Benz,” says Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Member of the Management Board of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Sales & Marketing. “On the S-Class Coupe as the traditional top of our product range, the designers take advantage of their additional freedom and thus create an automotive masterpiece.”

Gorden Wagener, Vice President Design at Daimler AG, adds: “The Concept SClass Coupe combines tradition and emotion, and is a symbol for the embodiment of our design style of sensual clarity. The perfected design with self-assured style and the highly exclusive appointments make the coupé a true design icon and an expression of modern luxury.”

Design: sensual clarity at its most captivating

Sensual clarity as an expression of modern luxury – this was the focus for the designers, and is the design philosophy of Mercedes-Benz. The goal is to create clear contours and smooth surfaces that express high technology while exuding emotional appeal. The sensual clarity is reflected in the core design values of tradition, emotion and progressivism. These are the guiding star, and are accentuated differently depending on the model. Mercedes-Benz creates a bridge between modernity and the avant-garde, between tradition and progressivism. The designers draw from a gene-pool of styling features typical of the brand, incorporating new stylistic developments in the interests of keeping tradition alive.

“Design needs the sublime! Because design is the best brand ambassador. At the center of our work is sensual clarity as an expression of modern luxury, because this is precisely what gets to the heart of our brand philosophy – the bipolarity of intelligence and emotion,” says Wagener.

The exterior: flowing profile of perfect proportions

The flowing profile of the Concept S-Class Coupe embodies sensual clarity in a modern way. It is characterized by typical rear-wheel drive proportions, which are emphasized by the Mercedes-typical signature, the dropping line. The long hood with distinctive lines and powerdomes, the crouched greenhouse with high beltline, the accentuated wheel arches as well as the 21-inch wheels (tires at front 265/35 R 21, at rear 295/35 R 21) and the visually broad rear substantiate the claim of the Concept S-Class Coupe as a masterpiece of automotive refinement. With a wheelbase of 116 inches the coupé measures 198.8 inches in length, 77 inches in width and 55.5 inches in height.

Positively arched surfaces give the Concept S-Class Coupe a sensual character.

This creates a timeless clarity.

The creative interaction of various design elements lend the Concept S-Class Coupe a superior and self-assured front: in the middle is the three-dimensional and further evolved diamond radiator grille, whose structure is defined by rectangular, dark chrome-plated elements. It frames the central Mercedes star and one blade.

The full-LED headlamps with their iconic eyebrows as daytime driving lamps lend it an extremely self-assured and distinctive gaze. On the Concept S-Class Coupe the eyebrows have been further advanced with a semicircular counterswish. The diamond-look of the headlamps and the tail lamps underline the luxurious appointments of the show car.

The side profile is defined by the dome-shaped stretched roof line and frameless doors. An elegant, three-dimensional chrome frame surrounds the glass areas that are uninterrupted by B-pillars. This underscores the typical Mercedes coupé look. In designing the pillared exterior mirrors the designers took liberties offered by a concept car and made them especially slim, giving them an elegant appearance.

A muscle above the rear axle protruding from the side wall generates a sense of lightness and dynamic spirit even at a standstill. The positively arched surfaces and lines of the side walls flow into the rear end with a dramatic tapered effect.

The rear end with its surfaces, broad shoulders and distinctive character lines rounds out the emotional overall appearance. Moving the license plate to the lower bumper section allows positioning the three-pointed star more prominently on the smooth trunk lid. This is complemented by a chrome trim strip modeled with attention to detail. It runs horizontally across the trunk lid and continues past the tail lamps, creating visual width. The arrangement of the LEDs in two horizontal rows within the two-piece tail lamp looks high tech and at the same time is reminiscent of the relief-type design on earlier models.

The interior: dynamic flow of lines

Sculpted elegance and simplicity also characterizes the interior. The white instrument panel exudes sensual clarity. Its curved shape is reminiscent of a whale’s fins just before it re-enters the water. Like the entire interior it is dominated by flowing lines: the upper and lower wave create a clear structure.

The architecture of the instrument panel is striking: Thanks to a new airbag packaging the designers were able to give the lower part of the instrument panel an extremely sculpted shape. The upper section of the instrument panel seems to float sensually in front of the dashboard as a so-called top layer. The instrument panel seamlessly transitions into the doors in a wrap-around design. The wavelike motion continues in the door panels.

The air vents, which among other places are housed as a four-piece cluster in the center of the instrument panel, have a futuristic and highly detailed design: fins that route the air stream surround an oval hole. The vents are designed to add contrasts and are made of a mix of white aluminum with a ceramic-like appearance and brushed and polished aluminum.

The aluminum control elements have a functional and clean design, and provide an exciting contrast to the organic and avant-garde shapes that surround them.

On top of the free-form surface under a reduced hood are the 12.3-inch screens familiar from the new S-Class. They have an aspect ratio of 8:3. In the Concept S-Class Coupe the fully glazed color displays are even slimmer and seem to float even more freely. As high-tech elements they offer an exciting contrast to the sensual landscape of the instrument panel. The color scheme of the displays is a bluish-green and consequently sporty and modern.

A touch screen showing four world clocks is located on the center console. The driver can choose which clocks to display: To do so, the driver first scrolls on a globe in the display and selects a time zone before a drop-down menu offers the corresponding city selections. The world clock concept was designed and implemented by designers and engineers at the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Center in Palo Alto, California.

The central command unit on the center console looks like a shiny jewel. Its extremely high-quality “black diamond” surface creates depth of field. The “black diamond” method uses the chemical CVD (chemical vapor deposition) gas phase process to deposit a precious metal on a high-sheen chrome surface at temperatures of 1,830°F. The metal reacts with the surface to form a layer that is highly scratch-resistant and has a high adhesive strength.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe Concept Interior Door

Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe Concept

The door panels of the Concept S-Class Coupe are made from aluminum. Using computer algorithms delicate topographic lines were milled into the metal and mimic the contours of the door-mounted control elements. This creates an interesting light pattern with tiny sparkling highlights. For this creation the designers drew their inspiration from rock formations in Utah. The progressive perforations of the loudspeakers were also generated using algorithms and display some intelligent aesthetics of mathematics.

Like the entire interior the seats have a highly dynamic and natural “flow of lines” and continue the sculpted design of the shapes. The front seats evoke associations of haute-couture tailoring because their sculpted shape embodies sensual lines reminiscent of figurines in fashion design. In the upper section of the seat the side bolsters envelope the occupant. The vertical lines of the seats come courtesy of an array of delicate piping, which is continued formally by leather strips in the carpet. Piping on the side bolsters provides contrast and like the perforation of the seat surfaces is a factor in the sporty-elegant impression.

The choice of colors and materials plays with the extroverted contrasts of anthracite and white as well as aluminum, and bolsters both the timeless modernity and avant-garde nature of the design and the claim of the Concept S-Class Coupe of ultimate exclusivity, high quality and perfection. In this spirit the instrument panel and seats are made from supple calfskin, the silk carpet was made by hand using the tufting process and captivates with its precious iridescent sheen. In this process the threads are stitched through the backing. The headliner of the vehicle is made from hand-woven silk and consequently underscores the exclusive character of the interior.

The technology: intelligent assistance systems and a seeing suspension

The Concept S-Class Coupe is powered by a V8 Biturbo engine. This engine produces 449 hp from a displacement of 4,663 cc. The peak torque is 516 lb-ft.

The Concept S-Class Coupe is equipped with the “Intelligent Drive” technology from Mercedes-Benz. Thanks to two “camera eyes,” the stereo camera can create a three-dimensional view of the area up to about 160 feet in front of the vehicle, and as “6DVision” can detect the position and movement of objects. It monitors the surroundings ahead of the vehicle over a range of up to 1,600 feet. This data is combined with the data from the radar and ultrasonic sensors. A multitude of assistance systems monitors the surrounding traffic for the driver. This helps to reduce the burden on the driver and other road users are also protected.

The suspension makes use of the new stereo camera as well: like the new S-Class, the Concept S-Class Coupe can detect surface undulations in advance. If ROAD SURFACE SCAN detects such undulations with the help of the stereo camera, MAGIC BODY CONTROL adjusts the suspension in advance to suit the situation. Using the camera images and vehicle status information, the control unit continuously calculates the best control strategy to cope with uneven stretches such as long undulations.

The infotainment system also meets the highest standards: the MoodGrid software from music recognition service Gracenote makes it possible to listen to whatever music fits the mood. Finding suitable songs no longer requires the driver and passengers of the Concept S-Class Coupe to awkwardly search through their collections of digital music. Based on a selected mood the software compiles a pre-selection of songs. This compilation not only includes familiar songs, but music from a catalogue containing 18 million tracks – adapted to the individual taste and the respective mood. The navigation system based on the Garmin NaviCore also offers more convenient orientation with a modern design and a 3D view.

2015 Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe Spied

The 2015 Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe was spied looking better than ever

If the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is considered to be the “best car in the world” then the 2015 Mercedes S63 AMG may be the “coolest car in the world”.  It has everything you could ask for in a luxury sports car, aerodynamic design, power, unrivaled interior and technology that is more at home on a space shuttle than a car.

The S63 AMG Coupe is slated to replace the outgoing CL 63 AMG, making its debut in 2014. It’s power will come from an engine similar to the 5.5-liter V8 in the W222, which would bring it in around 595 PS and 900 Nm of torque. In terms of speed, it would mean a 0 to 62 mph in 4.3 seconds with rear-wheel drive and 3.9 seconds with 4Matic.  Times that are going to be hard to match by any similar four-wheel drive cars.

Check out the gallery below for a 360 degree look at the future’s “coolest car in the world”

Mercedes S-Class Coupe Concept Test Drive

Starting next year, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe will officially replace the Mercedes CL-Class

Starting part way through next year, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe will officially replace the Mercedes CL-Class. In order to find out what we can expect from the all-new two-door flagship coupe, UK’s AutoExpress took the S-Class Coupe Concept for a test drive.

We’ve copied an excerpt below as well as a link to the complete S-Class Coupe Concept review.

When the Mercedes S-Class Coupe arrives, four years will have elapsed since the first design sketches were made. The clay model was signed off nearly two years ago, with the designers turning their hands to the show car in September 2012.

It took 10 months to go from the first sketches to the finished show car, which was built for Mercedes by a specialist contractor. A further two months were spent getting the finish perfect, undertaking still and video photography and shipping it to Mercedes’ purpose built building that formed its Frankfurt show stand.

Mercedes S-Class Coupe 2014: the ride

The concept is built on the chassis of a current CL500, including its 449bhp 4.7-litre V8, which burbles along as the concept trundles around for our photos. You can’t tell anything about how the car will drive. The concept is limited to 30km/h and can’t be driven for long as the engine doesn’t have any cooling.

But it’s enough to tell that the S-Class Coupe will be a much more luxurious beast than the old CL. Its doors open wide to reveal a cabin bathed in light, thanks to the panoramic roof, which will be an option, while the car’s width gives ample space for passengers to travel in total comfort. Much of the S-Class’s tech will feature, including hot stone massaging seats and Magic Body Control, which scans the road surface ahead and primes the dampers accordingly.

The pair of 12.3-inch screens float like a big flatscreen TV, while the seats are generously sized and comfortable, making the S-Class Coupe feel as much like a fancy living room than one of a luxury car.

Mercedes-Benz Confirms S-Class Cabriolet

Mercedes R&D boss confirms an S-Class Convertible due out in 2015

Mercedes-Benz last offered a cabriolet version of their flagship S-Class in 1972.  The W111 Convertible was last seen from 1961 as the 220SE and 280SE 3.5 to 1971 when it was shelved by Mercedes.

But now, over 30 years later, Mercedes-Benz is working to bring back the luxury convertible.  Based on the S-Class Coupe Concept we saw at the Frankfurt Motor Show earlier this month (pictured above), the S-Class cabriolet will debut nearly a year after the coupe in 2015.

The convertible S-Class will have a fabric top and will have the option of twin-turbocharged V8 or V12 engines.

Christmas Comes Early in Germany

Mercedes-Benz is hitting the floor with an all-new GLA crossover, the wildly-racy-for-a-sedan S63 AMG, and a new generation S-Class coupe

Frohe Weihnachten, everyone! OK, so it’s not the officially sanctioned holiday season just yet, neither here nor in Germany, but this time of year is as good as it gets for car junkies. The annual International Motor Show in Frankfurt – the largest auto show in the world – is among us, and boy, am I pumped! The rumble of tailpipes, the flash of headlights, the invigoration of taking a seat behind the wheels of the finest automobiles in the world – to me, there’s nothing better. I can’t wait to see what surprises the auto industry has in store for us!

Allow me to digress; most auto shows don’t have me frothing at the mouth. In fact, working a show as a sales person is usually torture, to put it mildly. Fielding an onslaught of questions, navigating throngs of people – by the end of the day, you’re a walking zombie. Even the most fervent car enthusiast like myself finds their excitement waning. But the Frankfurt show is different, peeps. This is the crème de la crème, the Super Bowl, the Olympics of auto shows and it never disappoints. Mark my words, the world will be watching to get a glimpse of all the new benchmarks in automotive advancements.

For me, this year is more special than normal because Mercedes-Benz has a lineup ready to unveil that will knock it out of the park! But that’s no surprise, really. And as we say in Texas, if you’re not the lead dog of the pack, the scenery never changes. Let me tell you, Mercedes-Benz has earned its rightful place as the head of the pack, and you can bet they’re there to stay.

Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class

Mercedes-Benz GLA Crossover

Alright, alright. Enough foreplay (we’re talking cars here, folks). Mercedes-Benz is hitting the floor with the all-new GLA crossover, the wildly-racy-for-a-sedan S63 AMG, and the new generation S-Class coupe that has everyone swooning. Plus advances in Electric Drive, forward-thinking Intelligent Drive technology, astounding 0 to 62mph capability in 3.9 seconds, and a multi-camera system that continually evaluates surroundings for safety hazards. Ahhhhh, this lineup it not just awe-inspiring, it’s a whole lot awe-some!

Mercedes-Benz S-Class

Mercedes S 63 AMG

With the amount of buzz already generated by the soon-to-be-released ’14 CLA-Class later this month, I’m beyond excited about the GLA crossover and the new markets Mercedes-Benz is bridging. You know the old saying, “This ain’t your daddy’s Benz” – well, with nearly 20 years experience with the brand, I say, they’re absolutely right. Mercedes-Benz is poised to set the market on fire with their new releases catered to satisfying the thirst of a new demographic – the so-called “millennials.” But worry not, Gen Y and Baby Boomers, the greatest brand and car company in the world has something for everyone.

From now through September 22, I’ll be waiting by my computer, giddy as a kid on Christmas morning, regularly checking updates from the show. What’s that? I have a dealership to run? All in a day’s work, my friends. All in a day’s work.

This is a complete departure from the elegant and curvy lines of the S-Class sedan.

The wheel arches have been designed to fit masculine 21-inch wheels fitted on a 2945mm wheelbase. In total, the Mercedes S-Class coupe concept is 5050mm long, 1985mm wide and 1409mm tall. Powering the new Mercedes concept coupe, a V8 4,633cc Biturbo engine that’s capable of producing 455 bhp (339 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft).

Mercedes didn’t just stop at the exterior though, the interior of the S-Class coupe has a modified layout with a white instrument panel and thanks to the new airbag location, a perfectly sculpted instrument panel. A touch screen with four world clocks is located on the center console as well as new white aluminum ventilation nozzles.  Their are two 12.3-inch screens that have an 8:3 aspect ratio, slimmer than what we see on the S-Class Sedan. Not to be overlooked are the aluminum door panels, supple calfskin for the seats and instrument panel, together with a handmade silk carpet and a hand-woven silk roofline.

The new S-Class Coupe also features Intelligent Drive technology that is comprised of two stereo cameras that offer a 3D view of the area up to approximately 50 meters in front of the car with support for object detection and movement. The car’s surroundings are also monitored over a range of up to 500 meters and is capable of detecting surface undulations to help the MAGIC BODY CONTROL suspension make the necessary changes to avoid a bumpy ride.

The production S-Class Coupe will  debut in January 2014 at the North American International Show in Detroit.
