A new star for the brand with the star: Ryan Tedder, co-founder and frontman of the band OneRepublic, is to become a brand ambassador for Mercedes-Benz. OneRepublic singer Ryan Tedder becomes Mercedes-Benz brand ambassador

“We are very happy, that we could win the music star Ryan Tedder as a Mercedes-Benz brand ambassador. Like our brand he stands for passionate creativity and dynamism, unmistakeable style and worldwide success.” says Dr. Jens Thiemer, Head of Marketing Communication at Mercedes-Benz Cars. “We are convinced that Ryan Tedder and the new OneRepublic song‚ “I lived” supports in persuasive way the communication of the new Mercedes-Benz B‑Class. We are glad about the live performance in the eve of the fair in Paris.”

OneRepublic will perform the new song “I lived” live at the Mercedes-Benz Media Night in Paris. After that, “I lived” will become a key element of the B‑Class communication campaign: the song will feature in a soon-to-be-launched series of advertising spots for the new B-Class.
“We shot the video at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in our home state of Colorado, which is on its way to becoming the greenest state in America. The B-Class electric car is a massive step in that direction, and given the global reach of Mercedes, the B Class was the only car we would have put in that scene… it was perfect,” says Ryan Tedder.

The B-Class Electric Drive plays a leading role in the new music video for “I lived”, which has just recently released to Vevo (http://vevo.ly/RjrPwB). The video tells the true story of 16-year-old Bryan, who is living with cystic fibrosis. Many affected people suffer from lung disorders and mutations at the extremities – including Bryan. Yet he still masters his life and does things that others with his illness might not have thought possible – such as riding a racing cycle. He enjoys life and defies all adversities. This is the message that OneRepublic want to get across with the song: Tedder: “Bryan is a great example in showing that anyone can overcome adversity. Make the most of every day, just like he has.”

What Your Driving Music Says About You

Classical music, Chart Toppers, Classic Rock, Country or R&B, find out what your music taste says about you

Last week we discussed with you our scientific study on what your car color says about you.  Following it up today, we’re taking a look at what the most popular music genres are among our readers  as well as what your music style says about you.  Why?  Because, along with all the other highly regarded attributes of a Mercedes-Benz cars, they also have a great sound system and it left us wondering what you’re using those speakers for.

As a reminder, we polled a group of our readers and asked them a multitude of hypothetical questions with multiple choice answers (sorry, no write-ins were allowed so funk music won’t be on the list of music genres), respondents were only allowed to choose one answer.  Our findings are below.

The majority of our Mercedes-Benz driving readers said their top choice of music to listen to in the car was classic rock.  Perhaps the broadest category on our list of choices, we defined classic rock as rock music from the 60’s-80’s.  I’m an 80’s fan myself which apparently means I’m self-confident and hard working but slightly introverted – well, that sounds about right but I wouldn’t say introverted, I would say to busy working to have endless conversations over the latest weather report.

Following up in second was country music, America’s favorite music genre.  So for you country music fans, while some non-country fans may think your music choice means you’re depressed, have multiple dogs for companions and only drive pick-up trucks, you’re in luck as it means quite the opposite.  You’re likely a very hard working, focused and driven by your emotions, you’re also far more outgoing that us classic rock listeners.

Pop / Top 40 / Hip Hop tunes were the third choice among readers and also ranked highest among our younger audience.  For you chart topping lovers, you have an exceptionally high self-esteem, and why not, you were raised to believe you could accomplish and be anything.  You’re outgoing and always in search of the next best thing but this also means that you’re often to busy to be like your hard-working country counterparts and creativity is not your strong suit.  Remember, don’t shoot the messenger.

For you classical music fans, our fourth most popular genre among our readers, you, surprisingly, share a log in common with our classic rock readers.  You have a high self-esteem, creative and have a laid back and relaxed personality but are also a bit on the introverted side.  For you, we’d recommend turning down your Tchaikovsky CD and talking to your passengers.

Coming in last was R&B, likely coming in last with only a few votes because, let’s be honest, who really knows what constitutes Rhythm and Blues.  Seriously, try and name your favorite Rhythm and Blues band.  While my opinion of you would be that you just want to stand out from the crowd and be different from everyone else by choosing a genre nobody really knows anything about, apparently it means that you’re creative, outgoing and make friends easily.

New Mercedes-Benz Song by Grammy Winner David Banner Released

The track "Benz", by Grammy award winning producer David Banner, is an upbeat, celebratory track inspired by his Mississippi roots

“Oh Lord, won’t you buy me…” – with these lyrics, Janis Joplin made history. Taking inspiration from her classic 1971 song, singer/songwriter Estelle along with rapper/producer David Banner and the hotly tipped artist Daley were brought together – by British based international style magazine BLAG – to create a brand new song in honor of the inventor of the automobile.

The track “Benz”, by Grammy award winning producer David Banner, is an upbeat, celebratory track inspired by his Mississippi roots. The three artists composed a brand new melody and lyrics. Their different musical styles flowed together resulting in an impactful and harmonious crossover, recorded at Record Plant, Los Angeles. Thrilled about the idea, Mercedes-Benz supports the project.

BLAG is internationally releasing the new track and video on April 18, 2011 via iTunes along with the debut of its BLAG Deluxe App for iPad and coffee table magazine featuring the making of the Benz video, photos, and interviews with Estelle, David Banner and Daley.

The original Janis Joplin track was created before any of the artists were born, however, according to Sally A. Edwards, who co-owns BLAG with her twin sister Sarah J. Edwards, “The song still resonates with all of us and when we came together on the meaning for the new version, we thought it should be about ambition and triumph. The fact it’s the 125th anniversary of the car is symbolic and the perfect tie-in,” said Sally Edwards, who loves bringing people together and felt Estelle, David Banner and Daley, could pull together something just as meaningful as the original lyrics given their different musical styles and backgrounds.

“We were honored that these creative artists chose to record a song about the Mercedes-Benz brand and after hearing about their project it was an easy decision to work with BLAG magazine to lend our support,” said Christoph Horn, Director Global Communications Mercedes-Benz Cars.
