Gilded Mercedes-Benz S-Class Fit for a King

Built for China's ultra wealthy, the Carlsson CS50 Versailles is an over the top golden carraige

Can you ever have to much gold?  A question I’m asking myself as I go through the photo gallery of the newly revealed Carlsson CS50 Versailles.  Based on the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Carlsson covered the car in more than 1,000 sheets of gold leaf – a process that took over 200 man-hours to complete.  The gold and refinements did not stop there however, Carlsson also covered 278 interior components with gold leaf as well, perfectly complimenting the champagne and dark brown Nappa Leather.

In total, there is around 12,000 Euros worth of gold leaf on the interior and exterior of the S-Class.  Is it to much, did Carlsson take the S-Class meant to invoke the beauty of King Louis XIV’s palace at Versailles too far.  Considering that 10 of the 25 limited edition CS50 Versailles editions have already been spoken for, the answer must be no – it’s the perfect amount of gold.

Check out the photo gallery below and see the gilded ride for yourself, or learn more about the Carlsson CS50 Versailles by expanding the press release below.

Carlsson CK63 RSR based on the Mercedes CLS 63 AMG

The Carlsson CK63 RSR can reach a top speed of 211 mph in just 11.6 seconds and sprinting 0-62 mph in a mere 3.9 seconds

The Carlsson CK63 RSR based on the Mercedes CLS 63 AMG, is scheduled to make its world premier at the 83rd Geneva Motor Show this March. Under the hood of the CK63 RSR is a V8 Bi-Turbo engine that has been tweaked to output 700 HP at 5,700 rpm propelling the CLS AMG to a top speed of 211 mph in just 11.6 seconds and sprinting 0-62 mph in a mere 3.9 seconds.

Read on for the complete press release or click here to skip directly to the Carlsson CK63 RSR Photo Gallery.

Power, torque and sound.

These are the watchwords for this new Carlsson performance flagship, whose powerful Bi-turbo V8 motor clearly underlines the skill of the engineers at Gut Wiesenhof.

Months of careful development and testing have resulted in the headline numbers of 700hp (515 kW) at 5,700rpm (specific output 128.2 hp/L), with 1,000 Nm of torque between 2,000 and 4,500rpm. Peak torque is electronically limited to 1,000Nm to preserve the gearbox and drivetrain. The significant increase in output requires a more efficient intercooler system to lower charge air temperatures, as well as additional water and oil coolers to mitigate the increased thermal load. The seven-speed transmission is fitted with an additional, thermostatically-controlled oil cooler.

Against the stopwatch, the Carlsson CK63 RSR reaches 100km/h from rest in just 3.9 seconds, passing 200km/h in 11.6 seconds on its way to a calculated top speed of 340 km/h.

The CK63 RSR uses a specially developed high performance stainless steel sports exhaust incorporating 200-cell metal catalytic converters to further reduce back-pressure. This exhaust system also incorporates an electronically controlled sound valve, giving the driver the choice of a near standard sound level for civilized progress through urban areas, or a full-on, snarling muscle car V8 experience at the touch of a button.

Master of Road and Track

The CK63 RSR uses Carlsson’s bespoke height adjustable coil-overs with 10-position bounce and rebound adjustment to cover road or track use. The car is normally set 30mm lower than standard for road use, and the front track has been widened by 25mm with spacers for better turn-in and stability in the bends.

Apart from giving a car its first glance eye appeal, alloy wheels also contribute to lower unsprung weight. The elegant and sporty one-piece Carlsson 1/10 alloy wheels come in a choice of 19 or 20-inch diameters to best cope with the road surfaces across different markets.

The CK63 RSR is fast and heavy, so Carlsson use 405mm diameter vented discs clamped by six-pot calipers fitted with their heavy-duty brake pads in front. The rear brakes are standard AMG, with uprated pads. Steel-braided hoses are used all round, while front brake cooling is boosted by a ram-air duct system built into the Carlsson front bumper.

The dramatic styling of this four-door Coupé is further accentuated with the Carlsson RS carbon-fibre front spoiler lip, black stainless steel mesh inserts in the intake grilles, brake cooling intakes, and rear carbon valance insert. A new feature over the RS version is the electrically retractable rear spoiler, which extends into the airflow automatically at 100km/h, with manual activation possible at any speed. Its size and angle of attack have been wind tunnel tested to reduce lift and drag in combination with the underbody rear diffuser.

Business Class Travel

The handcrafted Carlsson SIGNATURE LINE interior of the CK63 RSR is assembled from the finest leather, Alcantara, carbon-fibre and natural wood, and exemplifies the uncompromising quality of Carlsson’s in-house trim department.

This rich interior trim is a combination of Brown Alcantara and Mocha Brown Carlsson NAPPA EXCLUSIVE leather. The manufacturing processes used contribute to the look and feel of these materials. For instance, while the 1.0 to 1.4mm thick drum-pigmented leather offers the feel of fine glove leather glove, it is also particularly wear resistant.

A unique tanning process preserves the pores of the hides. This allows the material to breathe, preventing the excessive heat build-up that makes occupants uncomfortable.

Finishing touches come in the form of Carlsson interior floor mats, polished aluminium sill plates with blue illuminated Carlsson logo, and aluminium door locking pins. The three-year Carlsson warranty covers all the Carlsson components up to 100,000 kilometers.

Carlsson Mercedes-Benz SLK Racer Revealed

The Carlsson SLK 340 JUDD was built from scratch by Carlsson on a body shell and weighs in at a mere 1,719 lbs

The very ambitious aftermarket specialists at Carlsson their very first specifically built hill climbing racer. Carlsson’s new race car is based on the Mercedes-Benz SLK and is scheduled to premiere at the 2013 Geneva motor show in March.

The new Carlsson Mercedes SLK will compete in several events this year in the E1 category. The Carlsson SLK 340 JUDD was built from scratch by Carlsson on a body shell and weighs in at just 780 kg (1,719 lbs). In order to reach such a low weight, Carlsson built the body of their new SLK from carbon fiber. And in order to keep the carbon body planted, all the body parts have been tested in the wind tunnel to ensure maximum downforce. The car’s large rear wing and diffuser was also given special attention to give as much traction to the SLK as possible.

The Carlsson SLK 340 JUDD is powered by a 3.4-liter V8 engine that puts out 610 hp and 430 Nm of torque. The engine, which weighs 120 kg, is mated to a Hewland transmission with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. The Carlsson Mercedes SLK rides on a 3-way adjustable KW competition suspension, BBS racing wheels and AVON tires. Carlsson CGL45 Royal Last Edition

Carlsson China announced the Carlsson CGL45 Royal Edition designed for the China market and sure to stand out from the crowd

You may remember earlier this year that Chinese car dealer Zhongsheng Group Holdings Ltd bought 70 percent of the shares of German tuner, Carlsson. A spokesperson of the Zhongsheng company said the reason behind the purchase was that there are so many Mercedes, BMW and Audi’s in Shanghai and Beijing that those cars sometimes feel like mainstream cars, like driving a Camry in Los Angeles.

At the time, to give the partial acquisition a bit more shine, Carlsson China announced the Carlsson CGL45 Royal Edition especially designed for the China market. Next to the aerodynamics package with an engine upgrade and an improved interior luxury this special edition received a unique color scheme.

Newly released by Carlsson, and based on the CGL45 kit, which included an engine tuning on the 3.0 liter V6 diesel that dialed up power to 310 PS (228 kW / 306 bhp) and 700 Nm of torque (516 lb-ft) from the series 265 PS (195 kW / 261 bhp) and 620 Nm (457 lb-ft) and for the range-topping GL 500, the V8 engine was boosted to deliver 435 PS (320 kW / 430 bhp) and 600 Nm (442 lb-ft), is the CGL 45 Royal Last Edition with a bumblebee style paint job. The newly styled GL took 300 hours of labor in it and an astonishing amount of aftermarket parts. Though the GL is already outdated due to its 2013 successor, the Carlsson CGL45 Royal Last Edition will certainly not blend in with the crowd. Via: Autoblog.nl

Carlsson C25 Super GT Limited Edition Destined for China

Carlsson creates C25 Super GT Limited Edition with significantly less power exclusively for the Chinese market

Carlsson, the German tuner known for their immaculate work on Mercedes-Benz, has created a new C25 Super Gt limited edition model.  Based on the Mercedes-Benz SL, this particular C25 Super GT will be limited  to the Chinese market.

The revamped SL-Class features a carbon fiber body that saves 397 lbs of body weight. Compared to the factory SL, the body receives redesigned front and rear lights, rear side and rear windows. Further highlights include composite brake system and C-Tronic Suspension chassis with iPhone control.

What is most surprising (and somewhat disappointing for those craving the power of a V12) is the engine choice. According to the aftermarket specialists, the C25 Super GT is getting the Carlsson V8 engine, developing a total output of 450 horsepower – not quite the 753 HP and 1,150 Nm of torque (848 lb-ft) found in the Mercedes SL600’s 6.0 liter bi-turbo engine.

The Carlsson C25 Limited Edition No. 1 will be transferred by air to Shanghai. The other six vehicles will be hand-manufactured over the next twelve months at Gut Wiesenhof in Merzig and then delivered to customers. The Carlsson C25 Limited Edition is available starting at a price of 4,000,000 RMB ($628,240).

“We wanted to develop a vehicle that is highly exclusive on the one hand, and on the other hand can be also be used for the daily commute to the office. A Super GT which impresses with its driving comfort in urban traffic as much as its capability to go from zero to 100. This concept is especially suited to the Chinese market and we are delighted with the very high level of interest,” said Carlsson CEO and engineer Markus Schuster.

Carlsson C25 New Photo Gallery

Carlsson C25 owners choose their paint combinations and materials, received a completely customized Mercedes C25

It is the dream of every designer to create a classic Gran Turismo and as far as the C25, based on the Mercedes SL65 AMG, is concerned, Carlsson head designer Rolf Schepp did just that and did it perfectly. The C25 is designed to combine emotional character with safety-relevant aspects and high road capability, but Carlsson also designs the C25 entirely according to customer demands. The result is  perfectly sculpted vehicle unique to the owner. We were recently sent photos of a custom designed Carlsson C25 in matte grey that we felt was was worthy of a look.

The front view

Dominated by the dynamic and aggressive trapezoid shapes of the giant air inlets, typical for Carlsson and which perfectly interact in a tension-filled contrast with the sovereign lights.

The powerfully vaulted wings which can be perceived as landmarks from the driver´s seat flow into the bonnet with its strong contours at the sides with integrated power domes. In connection with the vertically adjusted daytime running lights, the headlights render a superb racing character.

The side view

The side clearly confirms the classic GT-proportions with front central engine under the elongated bonnet, the firm aero tail and the formally reduced roof construction. Basically, it consists of three plane arches which are dynamically connected by an elaborately offset line management.

The brawny and muscular car body impresses with its crouched appearance with powerfully modelled wings dominating the side view.

A main arch spanning over the cockpit is supported by two arch-shaped wings at the front and at the back which majestically rise over the wheels.

The Carlsson designers created the wheel flange and wings, the negative rear view and the lower front from vertical lines lunging forward and rendering a fast forward-moving impression.

The elaborate graphical design of the motor engine ventilation, wheel flanges, wing edges and door section corresponds with the strongly vaulted sides and renders a rich contrast.

The rear view

The entire rear section has been basically designed like a generous cave in order to integrate the upper rear edge generating downthrust in the best possible formal and logical way. Deliberately, Rolf Schepp puts the dynamic focus on the powerfully designed double diffuser with the significantly integrated end pipe blends which make the rear look not so high.

Rolf Schepp continues to apply the paramount trapezoid shapes from the front which are so typical for Carlsson also to the back by a perfect interaction of the boot lid and the double diffuser. The GT-typical, flowing and filigree roof construction is supported by the broad shoulders of the rear wings and flows into the gently curved ascent of the back tear-off edge.

With the Carlsson C25, the automobile manufactory consequently lights the way into future. The design of the Gran Turismo accomplished to connect agility, elegance and functionality in a unique automobile.

The technical philosophy of the Carlsson C25

The Carlsson C25 has been born from a revolutionary idea. For the first time, the automobile manufactory positions a Gran Turismo in an entirely new way. The coupé is the first own developed car by Carlsson and it combines two vehicle concepts which up to now have been considered as incompatible. On the one hand, the Carlsson C25 renders top performances with its 753 hp strong engine and an acceleration from 0 to 100 kph in 3.7 seconds. And on the other hand it breaks out from the supercar category and offers comfortable travel performances and an unsurpassable road capability. Therefore, the Carlsson C25 combines the best from two worlds and with its limited edition of only 25 pieces it offers an outstanding exclusiveness.

The V12-Biturbo owes its 753 hp (554 kW) to Carlsson’s experience and art of engineering. This performance is guaranteed by the interaction between the stainless steel exhaust system, the special sports air filters and the engine electronics especially adjusted to the C25 with its special engine characteristic maps for injection and ignition. Also the charge air ventilation and the manifold are exactly adjusted to the car. Therefore, the high-performance engine renders a maximum torque of 1320 Newton metres, electronically limited to 1150 Newton metres and accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in only 3.7 seconds.

The comprehensive adjustment between car body, aerodynamics, engine performance and undercarriage renders an unsurpassable driving experience. The Carlsson C25 is no serial automobile with an oversized implanted engine, but a special automobile with perfectly adjusted components.

Intelligent undercarriage guarantees perfect road capability

But this is not the only unique selling point of the Carlsson C25. No Gran Turismo with comparable performance data has ever reached the maximum road capability as incorporated by the Carlsson C25. This is among others rendered by the suspension technology C-Tronic® SUSPENSION. The intelligent system recognises the road condition as well as the driving behaviour and continuously adjusts the remaining spring travel and the damping settings to it. This guarantees driving pleasure in narrow curves due to a perfectly limited vehicle roll as well as a comfortable journey on long distances and bad road conditions.

For perfect travel comfort, the Carlsson C25 offers all safety- and assistance systems which fulfil the high Mercedes-Benz standards: ABS, ESP, Airbags, crash-behaviour and pedestrian protection.

Therefore, the Carlsson C25 has the advantage that the Gran Turismo can still be serviced by any Mercedes-Benz garage. The customer is not bound to one dealer specialised in the Carlsson C25, but can always rely on the closest Mercedes-Benz garage.

Intuitive operation and high-quality haptics

In addition to its unsurpassable road capability, the Carlsson C25 offers an operating concept which seems surprisingly familiar to the driver. The cockpit with the central instruments tilted towards the driver, the sport steering wheel and the comfortable seats are made for intuitive operation. The engineers and designers put special emphasis on the arrangement and design of the instruments and that shows in the high-quality haptics and the superb intuitive operation.

But the Carlsson C25 does not only convince with its positioning combining the advantages of a high-performance automobile with perfect road capability. Also when it comes to the price, the Gran Turismo from Merzig/Germany is very attractive. For cars with a comparable performance from Italy or Scandinavia, the customer has to invest at least the double if not the triple price. But even then those car manufacturers can’t guarantee their customers the exclusiveness of the Carlsson C25 as there is only one automobile available per country.

In the tradition of large coachbuilders

With its first own developed car, the automobile manufactory continues the tradition of large coachbuilders. This already shows in the design of the Carlsson C25 which bears the origins of the legendary Mercedes models such as the W 196 or the “Autobahnkurier” (Autobahn cruiser). Carlsson combined this tradition with the continuously developing Carlsson design which is reflected in the typical trapezoid shapes. As so often with traditional companies which originated from family businesses, the automobile manufactory Carlsson developed a unique car which only uses the platform of a large car company.

Already between both World Wars or from the 1950s onwards, smaller companies have taken a significant influence on larger car companies. This included Mulliner and Park Ward with their groundbreaking work for Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Also Swiss Peter Monteverdi made history with his new auto body for the Ferrari Monza or other cars which combined US-American engines with Italian car bodies such as the Monteverdi Hai 450 with its hand-made carriage.

In exactly the same way as these specialists, Carlsson and the C25 today present which possibilities there are when combining experience, passion and the art of engineering.

Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG by German Tuner Carlsson

The Mercedes CLS63 AMG receives a 100 HP jump, a more aerodynamic exterior and a luxurious interior update

German tuner Carlsson uses the stylish shapes of the new generation of Mercedes-Benz CLS (type C 218) to underline the vehicle’s elegance and sportiness. At the top of the line is the Carlsson CK63 RS based on the Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG with Performance Package which had its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2011.

Carlsson incorporates coupé-style contours and lends the vehicle’s exterior a touch of sophistication with the comprehensive aerodynamic package. The new front spoiler and the front spoiler lip RS made of carbon fibre ensure an athletic look for the luxurious saloon, a look which is underscored further by the black painted stainless steel grille inserts.

The discreet spoiler on the trunk lid and the rear skirt insert with its rear diffuser RS made of carbon fibre ensure extra downforce and more stable road holding even at high speeds. The performance figures are also impressive: Optimized by Carlsson, the engine of the CLS 63 AMG with Performance Package under the long bonnet now produces 649 hp (477 kW) and 900 Nm of torque, compared to the original 557 hp (410 kW) and 800 Nm. This allows the Carlsson CK63 RS to reduce the time for the sprint from 0 to 100 kph from 4,3 to 4,1 seconds.

Finally, the Carlsson stainless steel sport exhaust system with 4 oval end pipes gives the CK63 RS a distinctive sound. Also for smaller diesel and gasoline engines, Carlsson offers technically sophisticated performance kits with the general Carlsson 3 year guarantee. The performance kit CK50 for the CLS 500 for instance raises the output of the engine from 408 hp (300 kW) and 600 Nm of torque to 475 hp (349 kW) and 687 Nm.

The vehicle’s light alloy wheels 1/10 which are available in up to 20 inch also emphasise the sporty yet stylish contours of the new aerodynamics package. By combining five single and five double spokes, the automobile manufacturer from Merzig in Germany is setting a design trend. Thanks to an elaborate manufacturing process, the forged wheel 1/10 Ultra Light generates a weight advantage of 40 percent compared to the original wheels. This allows Carlsson to attain more strength and a distinctly improved rolling quality at the same time. The 1/10 design is also available as casted wheels in three different colour variants: Brilliant Edition, Graphite Edition and Titanium Edition

The Carlsson suspension with two sport springs lowers the CLS by 30mm at the front axle and thus allows an even more agile drivability. Carlsson’s patented C-Tronic® SUSPENSION is responsible for delivering excellent road holding for vehicles with the standard AIRMATIC suspension. This intelligent suspension lowering system drops the vehicle by up to 30 millimetres and continuously monitors the situation of the road. Depending on the road conditions, the controlling device adapts the residual spring travel every 150 milliseconds, thus ensuring optimum comfort and excellent driving dynamics with an appealing look. The C-Tronic® SUSPENSION switches to serial conditions when the speed drops under 20 kph as the original suspension adjustment will already lower the vehicle.

The vehicle’s refinement reaches its peak in the interior. The automobile manufacturer cultivates traditional craftsmanship by using finest materials such as leather, exclusive Alcantara, carbon fibre, best root wood and several other exclusive natural materials. The selections of the materials and the excellent workmanship attest the uncompromising quality requirements of Carlsson’s own upholstery. The CK63 RS experienced a Carlsson interior refinement at the top of the line. The seats and door panels as well as the rear seat bench have been covered in Mokka brown Carlsson NAPPA EXCLUSIVE leather. Thanks to its thickness of 1 to 1,4 millimetres, this pigmented leather is particularly resistant while still providing the feel of a soft leather glove. The extensive tanning process guarantees that the leather skins’ pores remain intact and thus prevent heat accumulation. In the winter, too, this particular natural material immediately adapts to the individual body temperature.

The same high quality and attention to detail is reflected by the carbon inlays in dark brown/matte which can be found among others in the dashboard, the door panels and the centre console. Other high quality parts like the illuminated door sill panels, soft velour floor mats featuring the Carlsson logo and door pins made of brushed aluminium further contribute to the stylish appearance of the CLS’ interior.

The number of variants is unlimited: The saddlery’s applications range from different forms and kinds of perforation over individual colours of desired leather skins to the combination of various materials like leather and Alcantara with corresponding stitching and piping.

Exclusively Central European raw materials of German production are used for all Carlsson NAPPA products. Carlsson also assumes responsibility in matters of environmental protection: the water used during the manufacturing process leaves the German tannery in drinking water quality.

With its comprehensive finishing package for the CLS model, Carlsson has once more proven its refined sense of taste when it comes to Mercedes design. Thanks to its efforts, the already stylish standard CLS63 AMG has turned into a unique individualist.

All components of the refinement include the general Carlsson three-year warranty up to 100.000 kilometres and a TÜV certificate so that the components can easily be included with the rest of the vehicle’s documentation.

2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK Tuner by Carlsson

Carlsson drew on its experience in enhancing engine power to present the Carlsson C-Tronic for the current CGI engines

German tuner, Carlsson, released their revised version of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK today.  The tuning program for the SLK include both interior and exterior as well as engine enhancements.  The 2012 Mercedes SLK offers two seats, a long bonnet, short overhangs, an open top and the engine in just the right place. With the new SLK, Mercedes-Benz presents what is probably the finest roadster in its history. Yet Carlsson still managed to find numerous ways to personalise the car and to leave its own unique mark on its dynamism and style.

The aerodynamics system, consisting of a front spoiler and rear apron insert (for cars with the AMG sports package, code 950), underscores the car’s sporty geometry and guarantees an additional downforce at the rear axle (the front spoiler and the rear insert are available for 620 Euro each, excluding VAT). The car’s front is perfected by the new front spoiler lip RS (available for 549 Euro and optional in real carbon) while the grille inserts made from electropolished stainless steel (449 Euro) replace the standard synthetic honeycombs in the front apron. The rear view meanwhile is dominated by the stainless steel sports silencer with two stainless steel pipes left and right in the typical oval Carlsson shape (available for 1298 Euro). The acoustic engineers at Carlsson have developed an amazing sporty sound in a way that optimises flow and really underscores the character of the SLK. The diffuser insert and the well-designed rear spoiler cause the contact pressure at the rear axle to increase even further.

Carlsson has drawn on its years of experience in enhancing engine power to present, for the first time, the Carlsson C-Tronic for the current generation of CGI engines. Thanks to the additional control units, the engine power is boosted by anything between 27 and 40 hp. The new C-Tronic makes use of the unit’s existing reserves and, thanks to the connection to the car’s electronics system, ensures that the relevant safety limits are adhered to and that the engine is not exposed to any excessive wear. Through elaborate endurance testing, Carlsson has developed a new generation of additional control units for the current four-cylinder CGI engines. Durability is guaranteed by the car maker by way of a three-year warranty, valid from the date of installation.

The C-Tronic CB20 enables the SLK 200 CGI to achieve 211 hp (155 kW) while the C-Tronic CB20S allows it to reach 224 hp (165 kW), compared with the standard model’s basic power of 184 hp (135 kW). Meanwhile, the C-Tronic CB25 boosts the power of the SLK 250 CGI from 204 hp (150 kW) to 231 hp (170 kW) while the CB25S enables the engine to achieve 239 hp (165 kW). (The C-Tronic CB20 and CB25 are available for 1190 Euro and the C-Tronic CB20S and CB25S for 1690 Euro.)

The lowering of the car’s centre of gravity by up to 30 millimetres further increases the car’s dynamics without impacting upon comfort levels. Furthermore, the suspension lowering kit (309 Euro), used in conjunction with tyres of up to 20 inches, add the final touches to the car’s upgrade. Complete wheel sets starting at 18 inches are available from 1930 Euro.

The interior of the SLK receives an upgrade from Carlsson’s own upholsterers based at Gut Wiesenhof. These experienced master upholsterers have come up with a combination of colours and materials for the SLK, which can, if the customer requires, be personalised with matching beading and stitching. Carlsson Nappa, Carlsson Nappa Exclusive and Carlsson Nappa Exclusive Heavy Weight are offered as part of a basic package consisting of the upholstering of two seats, the headrests and the insides of the doors and are available from 3900 Euro including fitting. The interior is further refined by the use of pedal pads made of brushed aluminium with Carlsson logos (suitable for both automatic and stick-shift vehicles) as well as the Carlsson gear selector with Alcantara appliqués, individual carbon features or, alternatively, fine wood inlays.

Carlsson C25 Royale Super GT Based on SL65 AMG in Geneva

The limited production C25 Royale Super GT is available to 25 buyers with a starting price of $594,122

Debuting at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Carlsson presented its C25 Royale Super GT, based on the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG,  with carbon roof and exterior, optimised driving dynamics and perfected electronics. Carlsson’s philosophy remains the same: with excellent design and the utmost in exclusivity, the C25 Royale combines maximum driving performance with everyday practicality.  The limited production C25 Royale Super GT is available to 25 buyers with a starting price of $594,122. (based on 3/3/11 conversion rates)

Safety is another area where the Carlsson C25 Royale fulfils highest standards. This is due to the crash structure which is the same as in the basis model and guarantees maximal protection for the passengers. Also, the Super GT presents itself extremely easy to service. All workshop of the worldwide Mercedes-Benz service network can service the C25 Royale.

The C25 Royale presents itself as a counter-design to the electro hype. More than 40 electric motors are used in the C25 Royale as well – but underneath the bonnet you’ll find a traditional 12-cylinder engine, whose 753 hp ensure not only power but also thunderous drive. The purified exhaust gases make an impressive sound as they exit through the four diamond-shaped tailpipes into the open air. The breathtaking power pushes the driver into the ergonomically shaped seats, which have a massage function and a ventilation system to ensure greater comfort on long journeys. In addition, the transmission tunnel, incorporating all the important control functions, is headed towards the driver, allowing him to give his full attention to the road ahead. Because in the C25 Royale, the journey is its own reward.

Carlsson has realised more than 70 innovations in the new C25 Royale. The car’s handling in particular is better than ever before. Plus, compared to the basis model Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG, the C25 Royale is 180 kilogram lighter which is due largely to the complete real carbon exterior. This not only reduces the overall weight of the Super GT, it also effectively lowers the car’s centre of gravity and allows more dynamic cornering ability and more agile handling as Carlsson has revised the vehicle’s entire weight distribution and installed a differential lock. The full ceramic brake system reduces the weight by 50 percent and reduces the unsprung mass for a more dynamic handling. The generously designed ceramic brake discs and the solid aluminium callipers allows later braking coming into bends while the revised electronics guarantee improved response, giving greater dynamism when coming off bends.

The C25 Royale’s outstanding performance data is impressive too. The strikingly beautiful sports coupé with the V12 biturbo engine achieves 753 hp (554 kW) and maximum torque of 1320 Newton metres (which is limited electronically to 1150 Newton metres). This allows the Super GT to race from 0 to 100 kph in just 3.7 seconds and to achieve a maximum speed of 352 kph.

Only one C25 per country guarantees the utmost in exclusivity

In addition, Carlsson (which has been recognised as an independent manufacturer for some years now by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority Kraftfahrtbundesamt) can offer one excellent unique selling point: Not more than 25 specimens of the C25 Royale are being made. And, to enhance the exclusivity of this ultra-limited edition still further, Carlsson is only delivering one vehicle per country. Six vehicles are already sold and will be delivered to the customers in 2011. It takes six month from order to delivery.

Each C25 Royale is absolutely unique. Colours and paint combinations can be put together as per the customer’s wishes. Similarly, the customer can decide what materials are used and what interior features their vehicle will have. Not one of the already ordered vehicles is alike the other ones.

Maximum performance combined with everyday comfort for the first time

The Carlsson C25 Royale is not just an exclusive vehicle with outstanding performance data. The engineers at Gut Wiesenhof, Carlsson’s headquarters in Germany, are the ones in the world to bring together the performance data of a super car with everyday practicality. “There are more than enough super cars around that can only be driven safely on a racing track”, says engineer Markus Schuster, Managing Director at Carlsson. “We deliberately wanted to develop a car that is exclusive on the one hand but can still be used for the daily commute to the office. A Super GT which can go from 0 to 100 kph in just 3.7 seconds while at the same time offering the utmost in ride comfort.”

In particular, the intelligent C-Tronic® SUSPENSION developed by Carlsson guarantees excellent ride comfort. This system measures a whole range of parameters, like the spring rate, on a continuous basis, which allows it to detect the road conditions and the driving style. Where road conditions are poor, the C-Tronic® raises the residual spring travel, thereby providing optimal ride comfort. As soon as the surface conditions have improved, the system will lower the entire suspension completely automatically and achieve perfect cornering dynamics.

Emotions instead of sacrifice

The twelve-cylinder reflects the company’s performance capacity and competence. Carlsson emphasises on first-class engineering instead of immature technology, on daily suitability instead of utopian scenarios, on emotions instead of sacrifice.

With the C25 Royale, Carlsson has gone one step further on the road to developing a completely new class of vehicle. No other car manages to combine excellent driving performance, unique design, perfect everyday practicality and the utmost in exclusivity.

2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS by Carlsson Debuts Ahead of Geneva Motor Show

German tuner Carlsson has also taken a turn at the 2012 Mercedes CLS that they have readied for Geneva

It looks like Brabus won’t be the only tuner with a Mercedes-Benz CLS at the 2011 Geneva Motor show, as German tuner Carlsson has also taken a turn performing their magic on the 2012 Mercedes CLS.

Rolf Schlepp, Chief Designer of Carlsson, worked on accentuating the four-door CLS Coupe’s already sexy styling, adding an aerodynamic kit that includes a new front spoiler, RS front spoiler lip, stainless-steel grille inserts, rear spoiler and rear apron with integrated diffuser.

Under the hood, Carlsson is offering power boosting kits for the many engine variants of the CLS-Class. For example, the CLS 350 CDI achieves a power output that is 20 percent greater than the standard engine thanks to the Carlsson C-Tronic DIESEL POWER additional control unit. Instead of 265 hp (195kW), the self-igniting engine now manages 320 hp (235 kW), while maximum torque has increased from 650 to 780 Nm. This allows the CLS 350 CDI to go from 0 to 62 mph in 5.9 seconds, up from the standard 6.2 seconds.

Another highlight of the Carlsson CLS are the model’s light alloy wheels in 1/10 design, available up to 20 inches,  and the perfect compliment to the sporty and stylish contours of the new aerodynamics package. For the exhaust, Carlsson offers double-over tailpipes and stainless-steel rear silencer with the option of stainless-steel tailpipes.

Helping lower the CLS’s stance, Carlsson’s C-Tronic Suspension kit that is adaptable to standard airmatic suspensions offers the ability to lower ride height up to 30mm.

As always, Carlsson is the using finest materials available on the interior such as leather, exclusive alcantara, carbon, best root wood, and several other exclusive nature materials. The seats and the doors panels have been covered in Carlsson Nappa with contrasting Carlsson stitching. This leather is exclusively produced for Carlsson as barrel pigmented aniline leather which is available in all conceivable colour variations.

The Carlsson Mercedes-Benz CLS will make its world debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show and goes on sale in April.

2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS Tuned by Carlsson

Carlsson presents its comprehensive finish before the new Mercedes-Benz is introduced to the market on January 29th

Stylish use of shape is the trademark of the new generation of Mercedes-Benz CLS models (type C 218). This has provided the automobile manufacturer Carlsson with the ideal platform from which to perfect the model with even more style and athleticism. Carlsson presents its comprehensive finish before the new Mercedes-Benz is introduced to the market on January 29th.

Carlsson chief designer Rolf Schlepp – aka DeLusi – incorporates coupé-style contours and lends the vehicle’s exterior a touch of sophistication with the comprehensive aerodynamics package. The new front spoiler, including the RS front spoiler lip (available in real carbon), the power domes for the bonnet and the mudguard inserts (also available in real carbon) ensure an athletic look for the luxurious saloon car, a look which is underscored further by the stainless steel grille inserts. The front apron inserts with LED fog lamps enhance both the vehicle’s appearance and its level of safety. These improve visibility, are 80 percent more energy-efficient than the standard lamps and fit in perfectly with the xenon headlights and the standard LED daytime running lights.

The side mouldings with their built-in air inlets continue the vehicle’s dynamic transformation. Together with the rear apron and its built-in diffuser (which functions as a tailplane), the rear spoiler ensures extra downforce and better contact with the road. In addition, the stainless steel rear silencer and the two oval tailpipes so typical of Carlsson make a great sound. The stainless steel tailpipes can also be ordered separately.

Both the CLS petrol and diesel engine models benefit from the improved performance provided by Carlsson. With their CK35 performance kit, the engineers from Merzig have improved the power of the CLS 350 CGI model from its standard 306 hp (225 kW) to 333 hp (245 kW) while increasing the vehicle’s maximum torque from 370 to 410 Newton metres. This enables the direct-injection engine to go from 0 to 100 kph in 5.9 seconds, compared with 6.1 seconds for the standard model.

Thanks to the Carlsson C-Tronic® DIESEL POWER additional control unit, the CLS 350 CDI achieves a power output that is a full 20 percent greater than the standard engine. Instead of 265 hp (195kW), the self-igniting engine now manages 320 hp (235 kW) while maximum torque has increased from 650 to 780 Newton metres. This allows the vehicle to go from 0 to 100 kph in 5.9 seconds instead of the standard 6.2 seconds. The Carlsson C-Tronic® DIESEL POWER for the V6 engine can be purchased for just 1785 Euro including VAT. Both performance-boosting kits continue to meet the EURO5 exhaust emission standards.

The vehicle’s new alloy wheels also emphasise the sporty yet stylish contours of its new aerodynamics package. With the Carlsson 1/10 wheel, available in three colours and in a combination of five simple and five double spokes, the automobile manufacturer from Merzig in Germany is setting a trend. Chief designer Rolf Schlepp designed the five top spokes in such a way that they terminate flushly on the edge of the wheel rim while the five double spokes begin deeper inside the wheel receptacle and are arranged outside on the upper edge of the wheel rim. The fact that there is no wheel well and that the spokes are drawn out over the edge give the 1/10 wheels a particularly sporty character.

With the three surface finishes available – Titanium Silver, Brilliant Silver and Graphite Grey – the Carlsson 1/10 wheel can be matched perfectly to one’s vehicle and taste. Carlsson is offering each of the three colour versions of the 1/10 in the dimensions 8.5×19 and 9.5×19 as well as 8.5×20 and10.5×20 inches from 2569 Euro for the complete set of wheels including top brand tyres.

Carlsson’s patented C-Tronic SUSPENSION is responsible for delivering excellent road holding for vehicles with the standard AIRMATIC suspension. This intelligent suspension lowering system lowers the vehicle by up to 30 millimetres and continuously monitors the situation on the road. Depending on the road conditions, the controlling device adapts the residual spring travel, thereby ensuring optimum comfort and excellent driving dynamics.

The vehicle’s finish is rounded off perfectly in the interior. The Alcantara sports steering wheel, pedals and foot rest made of brushed aluminium, velours foot mats featuring the Carlsson logo and the matching boot mat give the CLS’ interior a dynamic, stylish appearance.

With its comprehensive finishing package for the CLS model, Carlsson has once more proven its refined sense of taste when it comes to Mercedes design. Thanks to its efforts, the already stylish standard CLS has really turned into a unique individualist.

Naturally, a TÜV certificate is always included in the scope of delivery for all components in the finishing package so that these can be smoothly included with the rest of the vehicle’s documentation. Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet Tuned by Carlsson

Carlsson releases a new tuning program for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet that increases power and adds sportiness

Just in time for summer, automobile manufacturer / Mercedes tuner Carlsson has released a new tuning program for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet. With 20 per cent more power, the new aerodynamic package and an enhanced interior, Carlsson has taken the E-Class Cabrio’s sportiness to a new level.

The core piece of the sporty conversion is the additional ECU C-Tronic® DIESEL POWER. This plug-and-play solution enhances the performance of the V6-Diesel engine by more than 20 percent, from 231 hp (170 kW) to 280 hp (206 kW). The optimised engine management also has an effect on the maximum torque. Instead of 540 Newton metres, the driver now has 648 Newton metres at his disposal. Increasing the Mercedes E-Class Cabriolet’s visual appeal, Carlsson has added a new aerodynamic package. Highlights include a new front spoiler for 594 Euro and a front spoiler lip RS for 629 Euro, which can also be obtained in carbon. Also present is a new rear spoiler (475 Euro) which not only rounds up the heightened dynamic appearance, but also ensures optimised airflow together with the entire aerodynamic package, thereby ensuring better contact with the road.  Further improving handling, sports suspension springs (355 Euros) have been added, that both lower the Mercedes-Cabriolet 30 millimetres while giving rise to a significantly more dynamic response while negotiating curves.  Completing the outward styling, Carlsson-light alloy wheelsin a variety of designs are available.   Options include the classic sixteen spoke wheel 1/16 in 18 inches through the trendy double coloured design 1/5 REVO to the high end cast wheels 1/10 Ultra Light in 20 inches, which combine low weight with the highest load bearing capacity.  Available as a complete wheel set with top brand tires, the packages start from 2,712 Euros.

Carlsson C25 Super GT Born from the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series

Based on the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series, the Carlsson C25 is a 753 hp monster with a top speed of precisely 218.7 mph

With the launch of our new site we’ve been hard at work catching up on the stories we missed during our absence, and one story we felt necessary to add to to our features is a look at the Carlsson C25 Super GT – a model that celebrated its world premier at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.  If you missed it, the Carlsson C25 was conceived from the platform of the consummate Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series, the race-inspired SL coupe boasting 493 kW/670 hp and a maximum torque of 1,000 newton metres directly from the factory.  Carlsson took the SL65 Black a step further, bumping output to a staggering 554kW/753 hp and 1,320 Nm torque (electronically limited to 1,150Nm).  The end result is a model capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in a mere 3.7 seconds before hitting a top speed of precisely 218.7 mph.

But the Carlsson C25 is more than just a tuned SL65 AMG Black Series, it’s design makes it a model unto its own.  Outside, both the front rear have been heavily re-worked, with a Carlsson’s trademark trapezoidal shapes featured throughout.  The headlights and taillights have both been significantly altered; there’s a new elongated front with a revised hood, front apron and grille; the rear of the vehicle boasts a far more angular shape with a radically altered exhaust design; and the contours over the rear wheel arches now flow to the back of the vehicle, as opposed to following the wheel downward (these are just some of the design changes).  Inside, stronger traces of the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series remain, although Carlsson has clad the interior in a new plum color comprised of buffalo leather and ultra-suede.

Completing the package and ensuring optimum drivability, a Carlsson high performance braking system with with 405 mm large slotted race brake discs up front and 380 mm race brake discs at the rear, the Carlsson C-TRONIC SUSPENSION system and Carlsson ultra-light and forged wheels (40 percent lighter than custom light alloy wheels) all serve to help you adequately manage the abundance of power at your disposal.

If you’re interested in procuring a Carlsson C25, there’s a couple caveats.  First, Carlsson will only be delivering one C25 per country in an effort to ensure exclusivity, and secondly, Carlsson’s allotment of only 25 vehicles has already been sold out.  If you have your heart set on the C25, however, I have a feeling that if your finances match your desires, you’ll likely see one or two C25’s pop up on the second hand market in the not-too-distant future.

While you’re waiting, feel free to read more about the Carlsson C25 Super GT in the official press release below and view a photo gallery showcasing the C25’s design and official reveal in Geneva.

The Carlsson Aigner CK55 RS Mercedes-Benz GL500

The Carlsson Aigner CK55 RS Rascasse, based on the Mercedes-Benz GL 500, makes its world premiere at the Geneva Auto Salon

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen; I hope you all had a fantastic weekend. We didn’t quite find the time you bring this article last week, but we felt this article was worth a mention even late, because let’s be honest: who doesn’t love reading about a 228,500 euro two-tone GL-Class? I know I do, so here for your viewing pleasure is the Carlsson Aigner CK55 RS Rascasse, a limited edition Mercedes GL500 developed by Mercedes tuning firm Carlsson and the luxury leather brand Etienne Aigner AG.

According to Carlsson, “the star qualities of this car are obvious at a glance.” First and foremost, there’s the paintwork, consisting of several coats of hand-rubbed wine-red metallic paint applied below the window line accented by black on the upper half of the model. Furthermore, there’s a complete Carlsson body kit present, ranging from wider wheel arches, new side skirts and a new front and rear apron all the up to a new bonnet with integrated power domes. And the grille – let’s not forget that big mesh, Chevy-looking grille.

So what else does 228,500 euros get you? More power, courtesy of Carlsson’s engine conversion system for Mercedes’ 5,461cc, 48-valve, DOHC V8. As a result, the Carlsson Aigner CK55 RS Rascasse boasts a total output of 456 hp (335 kW) with 640Nm of torque, enough to propel the model from 0-62 mph in 5.9 seconds (compared to 6.5 seconds for a traditional GL500).

And last but not least, being a collaboration between Carlsson and a luxury leather brand, there’s bound to be a fantastically ostentatious interior, and judging by its description, it sounds like the Aigner CK55 RS Rascasse will fail to disappoint. According to Carlsson, the SUV uses only the finest hides and Alcantara to cover the seats, dashtop, door panels and center console, all of which feature the dark shade of red found on the model’s exterior. Ensuring the optimum in drinking while backseat driving, an integrated fridge has been added, while the removal of three of the model’s rear seats (leaving two individual passenger seats) ensures you’ll have plenty of space to get your swerve on.

If you’re interested, as already noted, flamboyance isn’t cheap, as the Carlsson Aigner CK55 RS Rascasse will set you back EUR 228,000 and change. Only 20 are set for production, however, so if you want one, you better act quick.
