smart and Brabus Partnership History

10 years of smart-BRABUS stands for more than 50,000 customised vehicles and lots of delighted smart customers

Sporty smarts are called BRABUS – and have been for ten years already. In 2002 smart and the tuning specialist BRABUS founded a joint company. As early as 2003 the first premium models developed by the joint venture smart-BRABUS GmbH –the smart fortwo BRABUS coupé and cabrio – were introduced on the market. Now the companies are celebrating their anniversary with the unique and exclusively equipped “10th anniversary” special model.

smart boss Dr Annette Winkler says: “10 years of smart-BRABUS stands for more than 50,000 customised vehicles and lots of delighted customers. The fact that we already produced more than 10,000 smarts together last year shows that we still have lots of potential for further growth and high profitability with this creative and efficient team.” Bodo Buschmann, CEO of the BRABUS Group, adds: “The cooperation with smart has developed extremely well in the past ten years. This means that BRABUS is not only a synonym for fast, but also highly exclusive sports cars. And we still have lots of ideas how smart and BRABUS can continue to grow together.”

Since the launch of the first smart fortwo BRABUS more than 50,000 customers worldwide have opted for a smart model customised by the joint venture. The customisation programme “smart BRABUS tailor made” that was launched two years ago and has now become established throughout Europe is also very successful. In 2012 it will also be extended to customers in the USA and China. According to the current forecast, more than 1000 customers will choose the smart-BRABUS tailor made offering this year. tailor made underlines one of the great strengths of smart-BRABUS – individualisation of the vehicle interior and exterior. In Germany, for example, prices start at €2999 incl. VAT for an exterior colour of the customer’s choice or exclusive leather appointments in the interior.

Ten years of smart BRABUS: customisation – a success story

Flexible small-scale manufacturer for discerning customers

smart BRABUS GmbH is a joint venture between smart and BRABUS and stands for premium automotive enhancement. In the past ten years more than 50,000 customers have opted for products that were developed or produced in cooperation with the engineers from BRABUS. 2011 was the most successful year to date with more than 10,000 smart fortwos customised by BRABUS.

Today smart offers two model lines in cooperation with BRABUS: the smart BRABUS and the smart BRABUS Xclusive. The smart BRABUS engineers and designers place a particular focus on two areas. Firstly, enhancing the performance. The 75 kW (102 hp) turbo engine accelerates the coupé and cabrio from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds. The sporty transmission configuration, suspension components developed specially for smart and a number of aerodynamic elements also ensure all-round sporty driving dynamics. The second focus is on enhancing the appearance of the whole vehicle with exclusive design elements in high-quality materials such as leather, brushed aluminium and bright stainless steel.

Sporty: the smart BRABUS

As well as a 75 kW (102 hp) turbo engine with sporty transmission configuration, the smart BRABUS has “Monoblock VII” alloy wheels with front tyres: 175/50 R 16; rear tyres: 225/35 R 17, a sports suspension lowering the vehicle by 10 mm, front fog lamps, a sports exhaust with rear apron in black, BRABUS logo at the front, rear and in the mirror triangle, and a panoramic roof (coupé; incl. sunblind). The tridion safety cell comes in black, or is alternatively available in silver or white. Among other things the interior is upgraded by BRABUS dashboard instruments (cockpit clock & rev counter), a gear knob in leather/aluminium, an aluminium hand brake lever and sports pedals in stainless steel with rubber nubs. There is also a 3-spoke leather sports steering wheel with steering wheel gearshift, air conditioning with automatic temperature control (incl. dust and pollen filter) and electric windows. The fabric upholstery comes in design black and the interior contrast components in pearl black. Fabric elements on the instrument panel, door trim and knee pad, colour-coordinated with the upholstery, round off the stylish look of the smart BRABUS.

Uncompromising: smart BRABUS Xclusive

Fine materials, exclusive styling and plenty of power: from the dynamic exterior to the high-quality interior equipment, the smart fortwo BRABUS Xclusive leaves virtually nothing to be desired. In addition to the equipment of the smart BRABUS, the Xclusive also has a front spoiler and side skirts in the bodypanel colour and headlamps with titanium-coloured surrounds. In the interior the BRABUS Xclusive features heated leather seats, silver stitching and the BRABUS logo embossed in the headrests. The air conditioning has automatic temperature control (incl. dust and pollen filter). The contrast components come in aluminium look, and the instrument panel and door trim in leather optic.

Anything is possible: smart BRABUS tailor made

With the almost unlimited options available from smart BRABUS tailor made smart buyers can contribute creative ideas to the design of their two-seater and give their vehicle their own personal touch. smart’s customisation programme meets the needs of all those customers who want to drive a smart fortwo tailored to their own ideas in line with the principle “anything is possible”. For example, customers can choose the exterior colour, types of leather and cabrio soft top colour from a wide range. There are barely any limits. The following are available:

  • Exterior finishes in thousands of different colours
  • Leather in 30 basic colours and exclusive design variants
  • Six cabrio soft top colours

The whole smart-BRABUS range of accessories

To help smart customers to find their own style, a number of attractive tailor-made packages are available. The tailor-made models are made-to-measure in the truest sense of the word. This means that they are individually customised at the factory with masterly craftsmanship using top quality materials and parts tested by the manufacturer – with a full manufacturer’s guarantee.

Dynamic and powerful acceleration: the smart BRABUS electric drive

Zero local emissions but maximum driving fun: the smart BRABUS electric drive proves that cutting-edge urban mobility can be combined with lively agility and a sporty look. The electric motor is based on the state-of-the-art drive technology of the new smart fortwo electric drive and has an output of 60 kW. It delivers maximum torque of 135 Nm which means that the smart BRABUS electric drive almost always wins when pulling away at the traffic lights. The new BRABUS sports suspension makes a decisive contribution to driving fun by bringing the vehicle approximately ten millimetres closer to the asphalt. The sporty character is accompanied by a special BRABUS sound to match, generated by a sound module. The smart BRABUS electric drive comes with a BRABUS sports steering wheel with steering wheel gearshift as a standard feature. Recuperation can be regulated with the help of the shift paddles.

The smart BRABUS electric drive has a dynamic look that also signals environmental friendliness: the tridion safety cell and mirror covers are painted in electric green whilst black dominates on all other body parts – even the front grille. Dark BRABUS headlamps, BRABUS “Monoblock VII” alloy wheels measuring 16″ at the front and 17″ at the rear, and BRABUS Xclusive aerodynamic body styling parts (a front spoiler and a special rear apron insert with double reflectors) round off the sporty look.

In the interior, accent trim parts and contrast components also come in electric green. Numerous BRABUS Xclusive components, including the instrument panel and interior door trim in leather look, leather seats, stainless steel sports pedals with rubber nubs, BRABUS hand brake lever and BRABUS dashboard instruments (cockpit clock and rev counter) lend the interior a dynamic and exclusive look.

The smart BRABUS electric drive will be available from smart centers in 12 countries from the end of this year.

Max. speed up to 45 km/h: the smart BRABUS ebike

The smart BRABUS ebike has the features typical of BRABUS – more style, more power and more exclusiveness. It has a dynamic look with the frame and fork in matt black and components such as quick release skewers, pedals and brake callipers in anodised green providing a striking contrast. Saddle and grips come in green leather. A four-piston brake system is fitted on the front wheel. The matt black four-spoke wheels are made of carbon. Further components that distinguish the smart BRABUS ebike from the smart ebike are Sport Contact tyres, weight-optimised cranks and pedals and the carbon seatpost.

With 500 watts the electric motor is twice as powerful as that of the smart ebike. At the same time BRABUS has managed to reduce the weight of the ebike by more than ten percent. This makes for particularly agile performance: the two-wheeler, which requires a license plate, has a top speed of 45 km/h. The rider decides how much assistance to their muscle power they would like from the electric motor using the throttle grip. There is a choice of four power levels with the fourth and highest level providing maximum pushing power.

The production version of the smart BRABUS ebike is expected to be available from dealers from the end of 2012.

Milestones in the cooperation between smart and BRABUS

March 2002: the 50:50 joint venture between smart and BRABUS is founded. BRABUS founder Bodo Buschmann is the Managing Director of smart BRABUS GmbH. The smart BRABUS 1st edition is presented at the Geneva Motor Show – initially as a study.

March 2007: sportiness in an exclusive guise: the BRABUS models of the new smart fortwo as a coupé or a cabrio are premiered in Geneva with the market launch following in the autumn. With a reengineered 72 kW (98 hp) three-cylinder turbo engine the smart fortwo BRABUS and the smart fortwo BRABUS Xclusive have 30 percent more power than their predecessors, yet still boast low fuel consumption of only 5.2 l/100 km. At the rear the wheels measure 8.5Jx18 with 235/30 R 18 tyres. The height-adjustable BRABUS coil-over sports suspension, which combines direct, safe and sporty handling with a high level of ride comfort, is specially configured for the ultra-flat tyres and the wider track. A high-performance braking system from BRABUS with perforated discs and 4-piston fixed-calliper brakes on the front axle painted in the body colour offers enormous deceleration and maximum fatigue strength. Needing just 8.9 seconds to sprint to 100 km/h and with an electrically limited top speed of 170 km/h the cabrio also sets a benchmark in its class in this discipline. This impressive performance also has the sound to match thanks to a BRABUS stainless steel sports exhaust system with two chrome-plated tail pipes.

The ULTIMATE 120 also features exquisite highlights in the cockpit: the whole interior is covered with particularly soft and breathable BRABUS mastic leather in black with red contrasting stitching matching the outer skin, or in a colour of the customer’s choice. To guarantee optimal side support during fast cornering the city sports car is equipped with Recaro Sportster seats. These are not only covered with the finest BRABUS leather – their seat backrest shells are painted in the colour of the outer skin.

2012 Mercedes B-Class Tuning Package by Brabus Full Details

The BRABUS program for the Mercedes B-Class is sporty elegance that sets visual highlights and optimizes aerodynamics

Just in time for the market launch of the new Mercedes-Benz B-Class, BRABUS offers an exclusive tuning program for the new hatchback.  The program includes sporty-elegant exterior design, alloy wheels with diameters of 17, 18 and 19 inches, a sporty yet comfortable ride-height lowering, and exclusive accessories for the interior. BRABUS engine tuning for the various gasoline and diesel models of the W 246 series is in preparation.

The BRABUS exterior program for the new Mercedes B-Class is characterized by sporty elegance that sets not only visual highlights, but also further optimizes aerodynamics. All components are manufactured in OEM quality from high-grade Pur-R-Rim plastics.

The BRABUS front spoiler attaches to the lower part of the production bumper and thanks to its sophisticated shape reduces lift on the front axle. In order to provide the perfect backdrop for the BRABUS quad sport exhaust system, the BRABUS designers have developed an insert for the rear fascia that features two custom-tailored cutouts.

BRABUS alloy wheels specially developed for the new B-Class make a significant contribution to the exclusive BRABUS look and to further optimized driving dynamics. Five different designs are available: In the largest version with a diameter of 19 inches the Monoblock E, F, Q and S wheels have been homologated in size 8.5Jx19. In the attached photos the new compact Mercedes is pictured on one side with BRABUS Monoblock F cross-spoke wheels with ‘Liquid Titanium’ finish and on the other side with Monoblock Q wheels featuring five double spokes, whose sophisticated shapes form five ventilation openings. The optimal tires for these wheels in size 225/35 R 19 in front and 255/30 R 19 on the rear axle are supplied by BRABUS technology partners Continental, Pirelli or YOKOHAMA.

For a ride-height lowering by some 30 millimeters BRABUS offers sport springs that were calibrated specifically for use with the production dampers.

While the fully stainless-steel BRABUS sport rear muffler with four chrome-plated tailpipes is available already for all engine variants of the new B-Class, the BRABUS ECO PowerXtra performance kits for the direct-injection gasoline and diesel engines are in the final stages of development.

In the automotive world BRABUS is considered synonymous with individual exclusivity. Naturally the BRABUS interior designers also thought about how to refine the interior of the Mercedes B-Class. What they came up with is as sophisticated as it is fascinating: Driver and passengers are welcomed by bi-color stainless-steel scuff plates with BRABUS logo. Aluminum door lock pins and pedal pads add sporty highlights.

BRABUS gladly fulfills even more extravagant wishes in the company upholstery shop. Whether it is the completion of the leather equipment available ex-factory or the creation of an exclusive ambiance in any imaginable color: The BRABUS specialists transform the interior of the Mercedes B-Class into an exclusive lounge on wheels – by request also with multimedia equipment including an iPad.

The new B-Class tuning program is covered by the one-of-a-kind BRABUS Tuning Warranty of three years, up to 100,000 kilometers / 62,000 miles (see BRABUS warranty conditions, updated November 2006).

Brabus Tuning Program for the 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

The Mercedes-Benz M-Class receives an upgrade with a sporty yet elegant aerodynamic-enhancement program

Exclusive, individual and ecofriendly: these three attributes best describe the latest Brabus tuning program for the new Mercedes-Benz W 166-series M-Class. From a visual standpoint the SUV receives an upgrade with a sporty yet elegant aerodynamic-enhancement program and custom-tailored BRABUS Monoblock wheels with diameters of up to 22 inches. The program also includes engine tuning for the ML 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC that is as powerful as it is ecofriendly. Further on offer are stainless-steel sport exhaust systems for all models and interior designs including an all-leather interior in any desired color.

To give the new Mercedes M-Class a more customized and exclusive look, Brabus offers an innovative and striking appearance package. The front bumper of the sport version can receive some added profile with the BRABUS ‘On Road’ front spoiler and attachments for the air inlets in the front fascia.

To give the new 4×4 a seemingly  longer and sleeker stance, the Brabus designers have developed new sill skirts. They combine elegant design with a safety feature: entrance lights integrated into the underside are activated by pulling on a door handle or by pushing the unlock button on the keyless remote. This also activates the BRABUS logo optionally integrated into the sill skirts and the Brabus lettering in the fender attachments that are a new development as well.

The rear end of the M-Class is upgraded with the BRABUS ‘On Road’ rear fascia that is available in two versions. Depending on the type of engine the rear fascia comes with a cutout on the left or with a cutout on either side to provide the perfect backdrop for the Brabus dual or quad sport exhaust system. A Brabus rear spoiler that attaches to the liftgate will be available in the near future. The entire appearance package is manufactured in OEM quality from high-grade Pur-R-Rim plastics.

The exclusive looks are also characterized by the custom-tailored Brabus Monoblock wheels with diameters ranging from 18 to 22 inches. The largest version Brabus offers for the new M-Class features king-size 10Jx22 wheels. The cast wheels are available in three different designs as Monoblock VI, E and Q wheels. As an alternative Brabus offers the Monoblock G “Platinum Edition” forged wheels in the same size. State-of-the-art forging technology makes these wheels with five double spokes the perfect symbiosis of low weight and maximum strength. Brabus technology partners Continental, Pirelli or YOKOHAMA supply suitable high-performance tires up to size 295/30 ZR 22 front and back for all Brabus wheels.

The Brabus suspension components, developed in cooperation with BILSTEIN, are specifically calibrated to this tire/wheel combination. For vehicles with conventional steel suspension BRABUS offers a choice of sport springs for a ride-height lowering by some 30 millimeters (1.2 inches) or a sporty yet comfortable sport suspension. For M-Class vehicles with AIRMATIC air suspension the BRABUS suspension engineers have developed a custom control module that lowers the ride height of the SUV by some 30 – 40 millimeters (1.2 – 1.6 inches).

For further optimizing the off roader’s already impressive active safety BRABUS offers a high-performance brake system. The front axle combines six-piston fixed aluminum calipers with vented and cross-drilled discs measuring 405 x 34 millimeters (16 x 1.3 inches). Together with four-piston fixed aluminum calipers and brake discs measuring 380 x 28 mm (15 x 1.1 inches) on the rear axle the brake system provides stopping power normally reserved for purebred sports cars. The Brabus system also delivers maximum fade-free endurance.

BRABUS offers the world’s most extensive program of engine tuning for Mercedes-Benz automobiles and so it is no wonder that the program was also adapted to the new M-Class. For the V6 common-rail turbodiesel engine of the ML 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC the Brabus engine specialists have developed the BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D6S performance kit that falls into the same EURO VI emissions class as the production car.

The engineers developed the Brabus ECO PowerXtra D6S module for the direct-injection engine in the BRABUS engine development department using state-of-the-art test bench technology and a cutting-edge emissions lab. The plug-and-play auxiliary control unit is integrated into the CAN bus of the SUV. The BRABUS mapping was calibrated specifically to the ecofriendly BlueTEC concept that uses AdBlue® reactant to purify exhaust gases.

The Brabus ECO PowerXtra D6S performance kit bumps peak torque from standard 620 Nm to 690 Nm (457 to 509 lb-ft), available on a plateau between 1,600 and 2,400 rpm. At the same time maximum power output jumps from 258 hp (254 bhp) / 190 kW to 306 hp (301 bhp) / 225 kW at just 3,600 rpm.

Performance with Brabus D6S tuning improves enormously: with a sprint time of just 6.0 seconds the SUV takes exactly 1.4 seconds less for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) than the production car. Top speed increases to 229 km/h (142 mph).

Further Brabus engine tuning versions for the other engines of the M-Class are in the final stages of development. All Brabus engines are lubricated exclusively with ARAL high-performance motor oil. Custom-calibrated stainless-steel sport exhaust systems with two or four distinctive Brabus tailpipes are available for all M-Class engines.

Yet another particular Brabus specialty are exclusive interior options for the new M-Class: bi-color stainless-steel scuff plates with backlit BRABUS logo as well as matte-anodized aluminum pedals, door-lock pins and foot rest are part of the refinement repertoire as are exclusive Brabus interiors masterfully crafted from a combination of the finest Mastik leather and Alcantara. In addition, there are exotic-wood and carbon-fiber trim sets in any desired color and with a variety of surfaces from open-pored and matte to high-gloss finishes.

Brabus Unveils Their Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster

German tuner Brabus unveiled their package for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster ahead of its premiere at the Essen Motor Show

A complete carbon fiber aerodynamic kit, offered in either high-gloss or matte finish, a body kit that includes a front spoiler, freshly designed air vents for the front fenders, side skirts, rear spoiler, side air vents for the rear fascia and a diffuser with integrated quad-exhaust are just the start of the updates Brabus made to the Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster.

For the wheels, Brabus fitted the Roadster with their own Monoblock F “Platinum Edition” forged wheels, which are available in several finishes, 20-inch in the front and 21-inch in the rear.

The Brabus Ride Control suspension system allows the car to be lowered by up to 40 mm (1.6 inches) with the touch of a button. The Brabus SLS AMG Roadster also offers a Front Lift System which raises the front axle of the roadster 50 mm (2 inches) in order to avoid bottoming out on curbs, speed bumps and other obstacles.  At a second touch of a button, the suspension will revert back or will do so automatically once the car hits 30 km/h (19 mph).

Brabus did not forget to include a plethora of power upgrades to the SLS AMG Roadster. Upgrades include a titanium sport exhaust system with quad pipes measuring 84 mm in diameter as well as an engine tuning package that raises output on the 6.3 liter V8 from the already impressive 571 PS (420 kW / 563 hp) to 611 PS (448 kW / 600 hp).

If the exterior and the engine aren’t enough for you, Brabus impresses on the inside as well with interior that include fine leather and Alcantara materials with carbon-fiber or exotic-wood trims.

Displacement is increased from 5.5 to 6.3 liters (336 to 384 cu. in.) with the help of a special BRABUS crankshaft with longer stroke, larger cylinder bore and correspondingly larger forged pistons. Further performance-enhancing modifications to the engine itself are the fine-machining of the two cylinder heads for optimized mixture flow and the installation of four special camshafts.

The engine peripherals are modified extensively as well: the standard twin-turbo system is replaced with a high-end turbocharging system designed by the BRABUS engine specialists. The new system features two custom exhaust manifolds with integrated turbine housings and high-performance turbochargers as well as four water-to-air intercoolers. The combustion air is supplied by a carbon-fiber ram-air intake integrated into the hood. In addition there is a stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with free-flow metal catalysts.

Precision-programmed mapping for injection and ignition coordinate the optimal interaction of the high-performance components in order to achieve not only maximum power yield but also to meet strict current EURO V emission limits. The high-tech lubricants for the entire powertrain are supplied by technology partner ARAL.

As a result of the extensive modifications the BRABUS 800 V12 Biturbo engine delivers unparalleled performance figures: the engine produces its maximum rated power output of 800 hp (788 bhp) / 588 kW at a low 5,500 rpm. Even more colossal is the peak torque of 1,420 Nm (1,047 ft-lb) available from 2,100 rpm. In the car peak torque is limited electronically to 1,100 Nm (811 ft-lb).

Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic transmission that has been reinforced to handle the enormous power, and the BRABUS high-performance limited-slip differential with a locking rate of 40 percent. Naturally the BRABUS 800 Coupe retains all modern vehicle stability systems that can be deactivated at the push of a button.

This engine under the hood makes the BRABUS 800 Coupe the world’s most powerful and fastest four-seat luxury coupe. From rest the exclusive two-door car sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.9 seconds and reaches 200 km/h (124 mph) after a mere 10.3 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 350 km/h (217 mph).

These extremely fast speeds place especially high demands on the aerodynamic-enhancement components that were developed in the wind tunnel. The sophisticated shape of the BRABUS front spoiler that attaches to the production fascia reduces lift on the front axle for further improved directional stability at high speed.

To achieve a precise aerodynamic balance BRABUS equips the CL with an understated rear spoiler on the trunk lid and a rear fascia insert. The insert replaces its production counterpart in the bumper and features a central reflector as well as one custom-tailored cutout on either side to provide the perfect backdrop for the four tailpipes of the BRABUS sport exhaust system.

Exciting design, top-notch quality and further improved driving dynamics are the outstanding characteristics of the BRABUS Monoblock wheels, which are available for the Mercedes CL-Class with diameters ranging from 18 to 22 inches. To make safe use of the car’s impressive performance requires BRABUS Monoblock 21-inch wheels, available as Monoblock VI, E or F designs. BRABUS technology partners Continental, Pirelli and YOKOHAMA supply tried and tested high-performance tires in size 265/30 ZR 21 in front and size 295/25 ZR 21 on the rear axle.

The BRABUS ride-height lowering module for the standard ABC suspension is specifically calibrated to these ultra-low-profile tires, and lowers the body of the two-door car by some 25 millimeters (1 inch).

To keep the stunning performance safely in check at all times the BRABUS 800 Coupe comes equipped with version IV of the BRABUS high-performance brake system. The front axle is fitted with six-piston aluminum fixed calipers and vented and cross-drilled discs measuring 405 x 34 millimeters (16 x 1.3 in.). Together with discs measuring 380 x 34 millimeters (15.0 x 1.34 in.) and 4-piston fixed aluminum calipers on the rear axle the system delivers outstanding stopping power and endurance.

The interior received a high-class upgrade to match the car’s diamond-white metallic paint finish. The BRABUS upholsterers masterfully crafted an interior from a combination of white leather and black Alcantara, each with contrasting seams and diamond-pattern topstitching. Carbon-fiber elements in the cockpit add a markedly sporty touch. Their matte surfaces in “checkered flag” design make them textbook eye-catchers.

An ergonomically shaped sport steering wheel is also part of the extraordinary BRABUS interior refinement as are scuff plates with backlit BRABUS logo, and aluminum pedals, foot rest and shifter.

The BRABUS 800 Coupe is available as a complete vehicle or can be built based on any current Mercedes CL 600 model.

Mercedes-Benz CL500 and S500 by BRABUS

BRABUS offers up to 520 hp / 382 kW of power, a peak torque of 820 Nm (604 lb-ft), a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph)

Ahead of their global premiere at the Essen Motor Show, which takes place at the expo center of the Ruhr Valley metropolis November 26 through December 4, Brabus announced their tuning programs for the Mercedes-Benz CL 500 and S 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY.  Both vehicles are powered by Brabus’ recently launched power kit for the Mercedes-Benz 4.7-liter eight-cylinder twin turbo engine, which has a standard output of 435 hp (429 bhp) / 320 kW and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft).

BRABUS offers up to 520 hp (512 bhp) / 382 kW of power, a peak torque of 820 Nm (604 lb-ft), a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph), a wide selection of wheels with diameters of up to 22 inches, sporty-elegant designer suits and exclusive interior options on their refined versions of the Mercedes CL 500 and S 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY models.

The all-wheel-drive versions of the CL 500 and S 500 are equipped ex-factory with a 4.7-liter eight-cylinder twin turbo engine that produces 435 hp (429 bhp) / 320 kW of power and a peak torque of 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). The BRABUS engine specialists have developed two different BRABUS PowerXtra CGI performance kits for this engine, which are also available for all rear-wheel-drive models.

BRABUS B50 – 490 engine tuning consists of a plug-and-play BRABUS PowerXtra module, which is integrated into the engine electronics and recalibrates the mapping for ignition, injection and the electronic boost pressure control. After the conversion the 4.7-liter eight-cylinder twin turbo engine produces a powerful 490 hp (482 bhp) / 360 kW, up from 435 hp (429 bhp) / 320 kW. Peak torque jumps to 780 Nm (575 lb-ft).

The BRABUS B50 – 520 PowerXtra performance kit features an additional intercooler. This BRABUS power upgrade produces 520 hp (512 bhp) / 382 kW at 5,250 rpm, an increase by 85 horsepower. Simultaneously peak torque grows to 820 Nm (604 lb-ft) between 1,800 and 3,500 rpm.

The performance of the tuned CL 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY benefits accordingly. The all-wheel-drive coupe accelerates from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.5 seconds.

The BRABUS Vmax unit eliminates the standard 250-km/h (155-mph) speed limit. The two-door car equipped with Vmax unit and BRABUS B50 – 520 PowerXtra performance kit reaches a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph). The new top speed requires the installation of a BRABUS speedometer with 360-km/h (220-mph) dial.

Performance of the all-wheel-drive S 500 model is at the same high level.

The BRABUS stainless-steel sport exhaust system with butterfly valve and four distinctive BRABUS-design tailpipes provide the V8 engine with a sportier exhaust note that never becomes intrusive.

BRABUS offers not just engine tuning but a complete customization program for the 2011 facelift generation of the Mercedes CL-Class.

It includes a sporty-elegant aerodynamic-enhancement kit that fits all latest versions of the coupe not equipped ex-factory with AMG body styling. The BRABUS front spoiler attaches to the underside of the production bumper and gives the CL an even more energetic front end. The spoiler’s sophisticated shape was fine-tuned in the wind tunnel and reduces lift on the front axle at high speeds.

To optimize the airflow along the vehicle’s sides the BRABUS designers developed strikingly styled side skirts with stylized air vent. The side skirts also feature integrated LED entrance lights for safely getting in and out of the vehicle in the dark.

The BRABUS rear fascia features a central reflector and a custom-tailored cutout on each side for the two dual tailpipes of the BRABUS sport exhaust system. An understated rear spoiler on the trunk lid rounds out the striking looks, and minimizes lift on the rear axle.

Just as important for a custom appearance and sportier handling are custom-tailored wheels. The CL 500 and S 500 4MATIC can be equipped with BRABUS Monoblock wheels in various designs and with diameters between 18 and 22 inches. The especially exclusive BRABUS “Platinum Edition” forged wheels represent high tech par excellence. The Monoblock F cross-spoke design is available in size 9Jx21 mounted with tires in size 265/30 ZR 21 from BRABUS technology partners Continental, Pirelli and YOKOHAMA.

In light of the approaching winter BRABUS also offers extensively tested tire/wheel combinations with high-performance snow tires. Due to their elaborate four coats of gray “Liquid Titanium” paint the one-piece BRABUS Monoblock F wheels with diameters of 19 or 20 inches are particularly suited for winter use.

The BRABUS lowering module for the standard ABC suspension is specifically calibrated to these ultra-low-profile tires. The module lowers the ride height of the two-door car by some 25 millimeters (1 in.).

To keep the enormous performance safely under control, the Mercedes naturally can be equipped with a BRABUS high-performance brake system that comes in various versions. Version IV, the largest one, consists of vented and cross-drilled discs measuring 405 x 35 mm (16 x 1.4 in.) and 6-piston aluminum fixed calipers on the front axle. The rear axle stops on steel discs measuring 380 x 34 mm (15 x 1.3 in.) and 4-piston aluminum fixed calipers.

The interior of the all-wheel-drive Mercedes coupe also offers numerous possibilities for exclusive BRABUS refinement. The list of accessories ranges from scuff plates with backlit BRABUS logo and an ergonomically shaped sport steering wheel to aluminum pedals, footrest and shifter.

The BRABUS upholstery shop offers countless exclusive options for trimming the interior of the CL- and S-Class to suit the owner’s personal taste. A giant selection of especially soft yet durable BRABUS Mastik leather and finest Alcantara in any desired color is available for that purpose.

Just as diverse is the selection of wood and carbon-fiber trim. The wood inlays can be manufactured in any desired color and wood grain with a high-gloss or matte surface finish. The lineup of sporty carbon-fiber trim is just as colorful.

BRABUS also offers every option to equip the CL Coupe or the S-Class luxury sedan with a multimedia system custom-tailored to the suit each owner’s individual preferences.

Brabus Rocket 800 Based on Mercedes-Benz CLS Makes World Premiere

The Brabus Rocket 800 is the world's fastest street-legal sedan with 800 hp and a top speed in excess of 230 mph

Over the years, German tuner Brabus has brought us the world’s fastest street legal sedans, like the Brabus Rocket back in 2006 and the Brabus SV12R from 2009.  At this year’s Frankfurt International Motor Show, Brabus has once again set a new precedent in the speed department, premiering their latest iteration of the world’s fastest street legal sedan:  the 2012 Brabus Rocket 800. Capable of reaching speeds of 230 mph, the Rocket 800 (based on the Mercedes-Benz CLS) is an ungodly fast monster that redefines the meaning of speed in a luxury vehicle.

Helping achieve such asphalt-melting speeds, the new Brabus Rocket 800 is powered by a 12-cylinder high-capacity engine that has been converted to the 800 V12 Biturbo specifications. Using state-of-the-art machining processes, the Mercedes 600 engine underwent a displacement increase from 5.5 to 6.3 liters (336 to 384 cu. in.).  Ultimately, this helped Brabus bump the 800 V12 Biturbo engine’s total output to 800 hp (788 bhp) / 588 kW at 5,500 rpm. Peak torque of 1,420 Nm (1,047 lb-ft) is available from a low 2,100 rpm, but is limited electronically in the car to 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft).

To cope with the added power, the Brabus Rocket 800 received numerous exterior updates that included large air intakes, widened wheel arches, a rear wing and a rear diffuser, in addition to other aerodynamic updates.  Inside the Brabus Rocket, drivers are welcomed by an all-leather grey interior combined with high-gloss-polished black piano wood. Also giving the driver a more comfortable driving experience is the ergonomically shaped Brabus sport steering wheel with aluminum shift paddles, pedals and footrest. Throughout the interior is the Rocket 800 logo, reminding you of the ample power at your disposal.

All of this adds up to one hell of a great ride.  The Brabus rocket notes a top speed of more than 370 km/h (230 mph), easily making  it the world’s fastest street-legal sedan, just one of the impressive figure offered up by the Brabus Rocket 800. In addition, the Rocket 800 accelerates from 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds, 0 – 200 km/h (124 mph) in 9.8 seconds, and 0 – 300 km/h (186 mph) in 23.8 seconds.

Brabus Project Hybrid Vehicle Makes World Premiere at 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show

The BRABUS Project Vehicle Hybrid has an all-electric operation powered by an 18.6-kWh lithium-ion battery pack

Making its world debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in a couple of days, the BRABUS ZERO EMISSION project vehicle Hybrid is a combination of the best of two worlds. An efficient direct-injection diesel with BRABUS ECO tuning and two electric wheel hub motors, this car is an innovative hybrid version of the Mercedes E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY known for its outstanding fuel economy ex-factory. The BRABUS project vehicle was developed by the BRABUS ZERO EMISSION business division, in cooperation with the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety. The project vehicle has been developed to small-series-production maturity.

  • The BRABUS development engineers have adapted two supplemental wheel hub motors from English manufacturer Protean ELECTRIC to the rear axle of the E-Class sedan
  • These alternative drives, which in Eco mode each produce 50 kW of continuous power and 80 kW in Sport mode, are designed to fit in the BRABUS Monoblock Q 19-inch wheels

With a combined peak power output of 160 kW and a total peak torque of 1,600 Nm (1,180 lb-ft) the two electric motors supplement the existing 2.2-liter common-rail turbodiesel engine, which was equipped with a BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D3 (V) performance kit. This tuning kit consists of an auxiliary control unit that features engine mapping developed on state-of-the-art engine test benches for optimizing fuel economy and CO2 emissions.

The objective of this measure was less the power increase by 30 hp (29 bhp / 22 kW) to 200 hp (197 bhp / 147 kW) produced by the plug-and-play module. Much more important is the increase in peak torque from standard 400 to 450 Nm (295 to 332 lb-ft). It gives the vehicle even more pulling power, regardless of whether the vehicle is in hybrid or conventional operating mode, and results in better fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions.

The two wheel hub motors turn the four-door car into the even more fuel efficient and ecofriendly BRABUS HYBRID. The various operating modes can be preselected from the cockpit.

During all-electric operation the car is powered by an 18.6-kWh lithium-ion battery pack housed in a custom-made well in the underbody. It gives the BRABUS HYBRID in all-electric Eco mode a maximum operating range of 120 kilometers (75 miles) without any CO2 emissions. Even in Sport mode the car has an all-electric range of 80 kilometers (50 miles), which easily meets the requirements of the majority of motorists who on average drive less than 60 kilometers (37 miles) a day.

During all-electric operation the batteries are charged by energy recuperation. While coasting or braking the system reaches a maximum recuperation power of 140 kW. For charging at home with ecofriendly eco electricity the use of the car charger from German energy provider RWE is recommended. It can recharge the battery pack with a current of 380 volts and a charging capacity of 50 kW in 30 minutes. On the road the batteries can be recharged with the on-board charger on any standard 220 V AC outlet or on a 380 V three-phase power supply.

In hybrid mode, the 200 hp (197 bhp) / 147 kW of the diesel engine and the maximum 160 kW of the electric drive in Sport mode work together in highly efficient fashion. Acceleration time for 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) improves from standard 8.7 to 7.4 seconds.

Despite of the added weight of 255 kilograms (562 lbs.) compared to a stock E 220 CDI, the BRABUS HYBRID also shines in the area of pulling power thanks to its supplemental electric drive: the intermediate sprint from 60 to 120 km/h (37 to 74 mph) now only takes 5.6 seconds.

At the same time the combination with the electric motors eases the load on the combustion engine, significantly reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions further. Naturally drivers have the option to operate solely in diesel mode. In this case the batteries can also be recharged by the wheel hub motors which also function as alternators.

The work of the BRABUS development team was not limited to the integration of the two electric motors for all-electric or hybrid operation alone.

The higher vehicle weight and the altered weight distribution resulting from the installation of the wheel hub motors and the batteries in the rear necessitated the development of a new suspension. A height-adjustable comfortable sports suspension with variable damper rates was developed in cooperation with technology partner BILSTEIN.

The tires are supplied by technology partners Continental, Pirelli and YOKOHAMA. They are mounted front and back in size 245/35 ZR 19 on BRABUS Monoblock Q alloy wheels with five double spokes.

The brakes are a BRABUS custom development as well. Special brake discs gripped by two calipers per wheel are attached to the rear of the wheel hub motors on the rear axle. All standard driver assist systems such as ABS and Brake Assist are retained.

The BRABUS front fascia, manufactured like all body components in OEM quality from high-grade Pur-R-Rim plastics, is designed to replace the production bumper in its entirety. Its sophisticated shape reduces lift on the front axle and also lends the sedan an even more striking nose. An innovative lighting concept with economical LED daytime running lights furthermore optimizes active safety.

BRABUS front aluminum sport fenders emphasize the sporty appearance of the concept car. BRABUS side skirts give the sedan a longer, sleeker appearance. Integrated LED entrance lights ensure safe entering and exiting of the vehicle in the dark. A blue-backlit BRABUS logo is integrated into each sill and activated together with the entrance lights.

BRABUS aluminum pedals and footrest add sporty highlights to the interior. A newly developed instrument cluster provides information about the state of charge of the battery pack. A control panel in the cockpit gives drivers the option to select all-electric mode, hybrid operation or diesel engine only.

Brabus Tuning Program for the New Mercedes-Benz SLK

SLK tuning program includes custom wheels up to 20 inches with suspension options, performance tuning and exclusive interior

A sporty designer suit, custom-tailored wheels with diameters of up to 20 inches complete with corresponding suspension options, performance tuning for all engines and exclusive interior design: BRABUS now offers an extensive customization program for the new Mercedes SLK.

Sporty-elegant BRABUS aerodynamic-enhancement components give the roadster an even more thrilling appearance. The two BRABUS front spoiler lips that attach on the left and right side of the production apron and the striking bezels for the daytime running lights lend the SLK a more striking nose. But that’s not all: the spoilers also reduce lift on the front axle which particularly benefits directional stability at high speeds.

The BRABUS side sill attachments emphasize the sporty lateral lines of the car and seem to make the rear fenders wider visually. The rear of the car receives some added sporty character with the BRABUS diffuser and the BRABUS rear spoiler on the trunk lid. The diffuser is integrated with utmost precision into the production bumper and features a centrally mounted rear reflector. These aerodynamic-enhancement components also serve more than just a visual function; they reduce lift in the rear as well.

A major contribution to the sporty appearance of the new SLK from Bottrop likewise comes from the BRABUS Monoblock wheels, which are available in various one-piece or multi-piece designs with diameters ranging from 17 to 20 inches.

The attached photos show the roadster equipped with BRABUS Monoblock F wheels painted the new exclusive ‘Liquid Titanium’ color. They are mounted in size 8.5Jx20 in front and in size 9.5Jx20 on the rear axle. BRABUS recommends high-performance tires from Continental, Pirelli or YOKOHAMA in sizes 235/30 ZR 20 on the front axle and 275/25 ZR 20 in back.

BRABUS sport springs were custom-developed to match the conversion to these king-sized tires. They are calibrated to work with the production shocks, and lower the ride height of the two-seater by some 30 millimeters (1.2 inches). BRABUS also offers various versions of its high-performance brake systems for the new SLK.

These measures furthermore make the new SLK perfectly suited for some extra power. In a first step BRABUS offers efficient and reasonably priced BRABUS ECO PowerXtra CGI tuning for the four-cylinder direct-injection engines. The processor-controlled BRABUS ECO PowerXtra CGI auxiliary control modules are custom-tailored to each respective engine variant and can be installed by any authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer in less than an hour thanks to their ‘plug and play’ design. All performance kits are backed by the one-of-a-kind BRABUS Tuning Warranty® of three years, up to 100,000 kilometers / 62,000 miles (updated November 2006). BRABUS recommends Aral high-performance lubricants.

To retain the engine’s longevity and fatigue strength these kits are designed to only activate the performance-enhancing mapping when all parameters such as engine temperature etc. are in the green. This effectively prevents the performance increase from negatively affecting the service life of the engine.

After the installation of the BRABUS ECO PowerXtra B20 CGI performance kit the four-cylinder direct-injection engine of the SLK 200 BlueEFFICIENCY produces an extra 26 hp (25 bhp) / 19 kW of power and an additional 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) of peak torque.

The new SLK 250 BlueEFFICIENCY can be upgraded at BRABUS in two stages. The BRABUS ECO PowerXtra B25 CGI module bumps power output of the four-cylinder direct-injection engine from standard 204 hp (201 bhp) / 150 kW to 230 hp (226 bhp) / 169 kW at just 5,500 rpm.

Another ten additional horsepower can be realized with the supplementary installation of a larger intercooler and an electronically controlled BRABUS sport wastegate valve that are part of the BRABUS ECO PowerXtra B25S CGI performance kit. 240 hp (236 bhp) / 176 kW of power and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque in overboost mode accelerate the two-seater in 6.2 seconds from rest to 100 km/h on the way to a top speed of 248 km/h (154 mph).

On the road all CGI engines performance-tuned by BRABUS deliver not just excellent driving performance but also optimized pulling power from low engine speeds and favorable fuel economy. Just as important for the BRABUS engine specialists were exemplary low emissions: like the corresponding non-tuned engines all engines with BRABUS ECO PowerXtra CGI performance kit meet strict EURO V emission limits.

The installation of the BRABUS stainless-steel sport exhaust system is advantageous not only for tuned engines. Its four tailpipes featuring the typical BRABUS design not only give the roadster an even more exclusive appearance but also produce an even sportier exhaust note for all engine variants.

Another focus of the BRABUS refinement of the new Mercedes SLK is the interior. BRABUS offers an extensive program for the roadster: it includes attractive accessories such as high-gloss polished stainless-steel scuff plates with BRABUS logo and sporty elements such as aluminum foot pedals and shifter.

Requests for even more individuality can be fulfilled by the BRABUS upholstery shop in the form of exclusive interiors crafted from especially soft and breathable BRABUS Mastik leather and Alcantara.

The BRABUS designers have modeled a front spoiler lip that attaches to the lower part of the AMG front apron on the sedans and wagons of the latest E-Class. Its sophisticated shape further reduces lift on the front axle for further improved directional stability.

For the sedan there is also a diffuser and rear spoiler that is mounted on the trunk lid. The former features a centrally located reflector, and stylishly blends with the rear bumper. It has cutouts on either side for the tailpipes of the production exhaust or of the BRABUS quad sport exhaust system.

Like the front spoiler the components for the rear are manufactured in OEM quality from Pur-R-Rim plastic ensuring perfect fit and excellent paintability, both in body or in contrasting color. BRABUS also offers these components with a titanium-colored paint finish.

BRABUS Aerodynamic-Enhancement Kit for the Mercedes S-Class with AMG Body Styling

The Mercedes S-Class with AMG styling also gets a more athletic appearance with additional BRABUS body components that are manufactured in OEM quality from Pur-R-Rim as well. The BRABUS aerodynamic-enhancement kit can be painted in body color or come with a glossy titanium paint finish.

The BRABUS front spoiler improves the aerodynamic properties of the luxury sedan. As a result, the car delivers an even smoother ride, particularly at high speeds.

The rear spoiler and diffuser, which also features a centrally located reflector, also contribute to even better high-speed handling.

BRABUS Aerodynamic-Enhancement Kit and Flap Control Exhaust for the Mercedes E 63 AMG

A BRABUS aero update is also available for the E 63 AMG. To further optimize directional stability at high speeds, the BRABUS designers have developed a carbon-fiber front spoiler lip that attaches to the production bumper of the E 63 sedan or wagon. Custom-tailored air ducts from BRABUS lend the side outlets of the AMG apron even more sporty profile.

Also made from super-light composite material are the BRABUS rear spoiler lip and the diffuser insert, which are both reserved for the sedan.

The rear appearance of this model is characterized by the visual trademark of BRABUS, the centrally located reflector. But that’s not all: the diffuser provides the perfect backdrop for the ceramics-coated dual design tailpipes of the BRABUS stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system. Thrilling looks are not the only strengths of the sport exhaust. An integrated flap system lets the driver choose between a discrete ‘coming home’ mode and the sport setting that provides an even more exciting exhaust note, all at the push of a button in the cockpit.

BRABUS Aerodynamic-Enhancement Kit and Flap Control Exhaust for the Mercedes S 63 AMG

The S 63 can be refined in a similar manner: an additional front spoiler made from Formula 1 material of choice carbon fiber for the AMG bumper was modeled for it as well. It benefits the car’s appearance and handling characteristics at high speed.

In addition to the spoiler lip for the trunk lid there is also a center diffuser with reflector for this model. Also in the product program: the stainless-steel BRABUS flap control exhaust system. It features cast-aluminum ceramics-coated tailpipes and a variable exhaust note controlled from the steering wheel that spans the gap from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde.

The BRABUS program naturally also offers countless additional options for customizing all AMG models. These include custom-tailored BRABUS Monoblock wheels with diameters of up to 20 inches, depending on the model in question. BRABUS front sport fenders, available for all E- and S-Class models, are yet another visual delicacy.

BRABUS wouldn’t be BRABUS if it didn’t offer engine tuning for the various AMG engines. Highlights in this category are the 6.3-liter V8 fast-revving engine and the new 5.5-liter V8 Biturbo engine.

The interior also offers a wide open playing field for refinement. The BRABUS upholstery shop uses supple leather and Alcantara to adapt the interior to the customer’s personal preferences down to the last detail. Other instruments of cockpit refinement are carbon-fiber and exotic wood trim elements available in any desired color and in a number of different designs.

Brabus Announces Tuning Program for Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet

The BRABUS 800 E V12 Cabriolet reaches a top speed of 231 mph and is the world's most powerful and fastest four-seater cabriolet.

It was only a matter of time before Brabus turned their attention to the new E-Class Cabriolet after having already tuned the sedan and the coupe. The German tuner has given the cabriolet aesthetic updates both on the exterior and the interior as well as some mechanical updates.

On the exterior, newly designed front sport fenders widen the track and allow the installation of ultra-wide 9.5Jx19 wheels mounted with size 265/30 ZR 19 tires. In addition, an updated front apron to reduce lift with LED daytime running lights has been integrated for a distinct look. In the back, special carbon-fiber rear fender flares add 60 millimeters (2.4 inches) to the width of the E-Class Cabriolet to make space for space for ten-inch wide wheels mounted with high-performance tires.

For the interior, Brabus covered the cockpit in a perfectly finished combination of lipstick-red and black leather.  Other enhancements include  an ergonomically shaped Brabus steering wheel and inlays made from genuine carbon fiber on the dashboard, center console and side trim.

Engine updates bumped the displacement from the standard 5.5 to 6.3 liters by installing a special crankshaft with a longer stroke and larger pistons in conjunction with increased cylinder bore bumps. The BRABUS 800 V12 Biturbo powertrain, transforms the four-seater convertible into the most powerful and fastest of its kind in the world. A total of 800 hp (788 bhp) / 588 kW at 5,500 rpm and peak torque of 1,420 Nm (1,047 lb-ft), limited electronically in the car to 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft), are as unique as the driving performance this car delivers. The ideal complement to the tuning of the 5.5-liter engine is the BRABUS sport exhaust system with exhaust flap control. At the push of a button on the steering wheel the driver can choose whether to enjoy the V8 sound in the quiet and unobtrusive ‘Coming Home’ or in the markedly throaty ‘Sport’ mode. The fully stainless-steel exhaust system features two ceramic-coated tailpipes with striking design that add some visual thrills as well.

To transfer the increased power to the road with minimum slip, BRABUS offers a limited-slip differential with a locking rate of up to 40 percent for the Mercedes S63 and CL63 models.

For even better directional stability at these extremely high speeds, the BRABUS designers went into the wind tunnel to develop appealing and functional aerodynamic-enhancement components for the body kit of the S 63 AMG. The components are manufactured from exposed carbon fiber.

The BRABUS front spoiler gives the production front apron a visual upgrade and reduces lift on the front axle. The more striking front is rounded out with carbon-fiber moldings for the gills in the sides of the front bumper. BRABUS aluminum sport fenders lend the car a decidedly dynamic appearance.

The BRABUS carbon-fiber diffuser with integrated reflector and the carbon-fiber rear spoiler reduce lift on the rear axle.

Naturally BRABUS also offers custom-tailored BRABUS Monoblock alloy wheels with diameters ranging from 19 to 21 inches for all Mercedes S- and CL-Class models. The wheels are mounted with Pirelli or YOKOHAMA high-performance tires.

BRABUS Launches 800 “iBusiness” for the Apple Lover

The BRABUS Mercedes-Benz S600 and is powered by a BRABUS SV12 800 V12 Biturbo twelve-cylinder engine with 800 hp

The BRABUS 800 “iBusiness” represents the world premiere of a unique luxury sedan that combines the expected high performance from BRABUS and high-tech multimedia. The 217-mph sedan is based on the Mercedes-Benz S600 and is powered by a BRABUS SV12 800 V12 Biturbo twelve-cylinder engine with 800 hp (788 bhp) / 588 kW and a peak torque of 1,420 Nm (1,047 lb-ft). But there is far more to the “iBusiness” than what’s under the hood. The rear compartment is stocked with two Apple iPads, two seat-mounted multimedia screens, a 64GB iPod Touch and a 15.2-inch headliner-mounted Mac display. Not only can these products be used for personal use, but the two iPads also control the car’s Command system, encompassing the radio, navigation and telephone systems. The whole Apple setup is powered by an ultra-small Mac Mini in the trunk that is housed in an electronically deployed drawer.

The “iBusiness” is truly an Apple lover’s dream and the perfect mobile office. We have no doubt we will see one of these pulling out of Steve Jobs garage soon.

This is the first time BRABUS specialists have integrated Apple components into the vehicle electronics of a Mercedes. The company upholstery shop created a luxurious environment in the form of an elegant all-leather interior with two individual power rear seats. The two-tone upholstery is made from high-quality BRABUS leather that is especially soft, breathable and highly durable.

At the heart of the “iBusiness” is state-of-the-art entertainment and communication technology on wheels. The centerpiece of the system is an ultra-small Mac mini computer safely housed under the rear shelf in an electrically deployed drawer whose design mirrors the design of the computer itself.

A 15.2-inch TFT display with 16:9 aspect ratio is integrated into the headliner covered with the finest Alcantara and contrasted with leather. Together with the standard screens in the back of the front headrests it serves as a display for the multimedia system. USB 2.0 ports integrated into the rear compartment allow connecting various peripherals to the Mac such as a webcam for video conferencing or a digital camera. The “iBusiness” is connected to the Internet via UMTS and HSDPA.

The entire BRABUS multimedia system is controlled from the rear or the front passenger seat with two iPads, connected to the central computer via a WIFI network. These iPads also control all functions of the standard COMAND system such as radio, navigation and telephone.

While on the move the two tablet computers and the Bluetooth keyboards can be safely secured in precisely fitting recesses in the luxurious BRABUS rear tables. The table tops are covered with the same exclusive leather as the entire interior and are bordered by high-gloss aluminum frames. The tables are electrically deployed from special BRABUS seatback consoles and are infinitely adjustable to any angle. They offer ample space for perusing documents, the Apple mouse and keyboard.

When the iPads are not in use or when the “iBusiness” is parked they can be stored securely and hidden from sight in custom-tailored compartments in the BRABUS center console. A special BRABUS App is also available for iPad and iPhone. It is part of the standard equipment of the luxury sedan.

The music comes from a 64GB Apple iPod touch that can store more than 14,000 songs. The sound is reproduced either by the sound system of the S-Class or by Sennheiser Noise Gard headphones, which filter out any unwanted ambient noise for unparalleled listening pleasure.

Power-operated curtains provide privacy for the rear passengers and together with an innovative color-changing interior lighting system create a serene atmosphere. The BRABUS fully leather interior creates an exclusive ambiance further augmented by the new BRABUS Yachting wood trim package. It lends the interior of the luxury sedan a maritime feel that is reminiscent of classic Italian sport boats. All wood trim elements of the S-Class are painstakingly created by hand from hundreds of individual pieces and have the look and feel of a miniature ship veneer. The wood inlays have a high-gloss finish and meet the latest automotive quality and safety guidelines.

Scuff plates with illuminated BRABUS logo, an ergonomically shaped sport steering wheel and anodized aluminum pedals add further individual highlights.

The BRABUS “iBusiness” is also the most powerful luxury sedan in the world and thus the world’s fastest office on wheels. This unique automobile is powered by a BRABUS 800 V12 Biturbo engine, a prime example for the ancient wisdom that nothing can replace displacement except more displacement.

Displacement of the V12 engine that normally powers the latest Mercedes 600 models is increased from 5.5 to 6.3 liters (336 to 385 cu. in.) The displacement increase is the product of a special crankshaft with longer stroke, precision-balanced piston rods, larger-diameter pistons and corresponding larger cylinder bore. The inner workings of the BRABUS engine are modified further by high-performance camshafts and flow-optimized cylinder heads.

The new air intake was custom-developed to fit in the available space under the hood of the S-Class. The combustion air is routed through a special carbon-fiber system. Also newly developed was the BRABUS Biturbo system with two special high-performance manifolds with integrated turbine housings and high-performance turbochargers. The system also includes four water-to-air intercoolers. The BRABUS stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with sport catalysts and four exhaust tips with BRABUS-characteristic design optimizes power yield and gives the engine a more dominant exhaust note.

Newly calibrated engine electronics with precision-programmed mapping for injection and ignition ensure exemplary power yield and compliance with strict EURO V emission limits. The high-tech lubricants for the entire powertrain are supplied by technology partner ARAL.

The SV12 800 V12 Biturbo engine produces 800 hp (788 bhp) / 588 kW at 5,500 rpm and an even more impressive peak torque of 1,420 Nm (1,047 lb-ft), available from a low 2,100 rpm. For technical reasons peak torque is limited electronically to 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft).

Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a reinforced five-speed automatic transmission. A BRABUS high-performance limited-slip differential with a locking rate of 40 percent is available as an option.

The extraordinary performance figures elevate the BRABUS 800 “iBusiness” to the exalted position of the world’s most powerful and fastest luxury sedan. Acceleration times from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) of 3.9 seconds and of just 10.3 seconds to 200 km/h (124 mph) are as unmatched in this vehicle category as is the electronically limited top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph).

On the outside the “iBusiness” is clad in a sporty yet elegant designer suit. The BRABUS designers went into the wind tunnel to develop a striking front fascia whose sophisticated shape reduces lift on the front axle. The large center air inlet further optimizes cooling of the engine and the front brakes. Integrated auxiliary headlights and LED daytime running lights increase the safety factor.

Custom-tailored BRABUS aluminum sport fenders that replace their production counterparts give the S-Class sedan an even more extravagant look. The exclusive character of these fenders is embodied by an integrated air vent made from clear-coated carbon fiber and a horizontal brace that spans the vent with embossed BRABUS signet and integrated LED lights. The latter are activated just like the ones in the BRABUS side sills via the keyless remote or by pulling on a door handle.

For optimizing the airflow around the sides of the vehicle the designers shaped BRABUS sill skirts that feature integrated entrance lights for added utility. They are activated by the keyless remote or by pulling on a door handle as are the blue-illuminated BRABUS logos integrated into the side skirts on both sides of the vehicle.

The BRABUS aerodynamic-enhancement concept is rounded out by the BRABUS rear spoiler lip, also available in a clear-coated carbon-fiber version, and the new rear fascia with centrally located reflector and custom cutouts for the BRABUS quad sport exhaust system. The underside of the rear fascia also features integrated LED lights which illuminate the ground behind the vehicle. They help avoid any unfortunate missteps into puddles of potholes lurking in the dark.

The enormous performance of the “iBusiness” with BRABUS 800 V12 Biturbo engine is kept safely under control with custom-tailored solutions for tires, brakes and suspension. They include BRABUS Monoblock light-alloy wheels with diameters ranging from 19 to 21 inches.

The largest possible version features size 9Jx21 wheels on the front axle and size 10.5Jx21 in the rear, available in four different designs. They are: three-piece forged and high-gloss polished BRABUS Monoblock VI evo wheels with six double spokes, Monoblock E multi-spoke wheels, the Monoblock S double-spoke wheel and the especially exclusive Monoblock F “PLATINUM EDITION” forged wheel with cross-spoke design. All versions are mounted with Pirelli or YOKOHAMA tires in size 265/30 ZR 21 in front and size 295/30 ZR 21 on the rear axle.

For all gasoline models up to the S 500 (US: S550) BRABUS also certified Monoblock VI, E, G, Q and S 10Jx22 in size 10Jx22 with high-performance tires in size 275/25 ZR 22 in front combined with size 295/25 ZR 22 tires on the rear axle. Thanks to a tire design specifically calibrated to luxury sedans and high-performance coupes the new BRABUS tire/wheel combination offers sporty and agile handling combined with excellent ride comfort.

The large wheels also create the necessary space for installing the BRABUS high-performance brake system with 12-piston aluminum fixed calipers and 380 x 36-mm (15.0 x 1.42 inches) vented and cross-drilled discs in front, and 355 x 28-mm (14.0 x 1.1 inches) discs and six-piston aluminum fixed calipers on the rear axle.

The BRABUS 800 “iBusiness” is built to order and can be combined with any engine variant from the S 350 to the S 65. Alternatively any existing current Mercedes S-Class model can be equipped with the innovative multimedia system and all other BRABUS options.

BRABUS 800 WIDESTAR Is World’s Most Powerful Off-Roader

The Brabus 800 Widestar is powered by a twelve-cylinder bi-turbo high-capacity engine with a rated power output of 800 hp

The Brabus 800 WIDESTAR, based on the Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV, is the world’s most powerful off-roader. Debuting at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the Brabus G-Wagon is powered by an ultra powerful twelve-cylinder bi-turbo high-capacity engine with a rated power output of 800 hp (788 bhp) / 588 kW. You may remember its predecessor, the Brabus G V12 S with 700 hp (690 bhp) / 515 kW. Style wise, the powerful off-roader sets itself apart with its WIDESTAR wide-body equipment and enormous 23-inch Brabus “PLATINUM EDITION” forged wheels.

The five-door Brabus is built by hand keeping design elements from the current Mercedes G-Class. Like all special models from Brabus, the Brabus 800 WIDESTAR is available with an ample luxury equipment package.

As the name indicates, the Brabus 800 V12 Biturbo engine is implanted into the engine bay of the G-Class. The elaborate implantation of the twelve-cylinder engine is as much a masterwork as is its design, which is based on the V12 bi-turbo engine from the current Mercedes S 600 model.

The basis for the enormous increase in power is the displacement increase. Displacement of the three-valve engine is increased from 5.5 to 6.3 liters (336 to 384 cubic inches) in the state-of-the-art Brabus engine shop with the help of a special crankshaft with longer stroke and larger pistons and corresponding cylinder bore. Additionally the cylinder heads are optimized for mixture flow and fitted with special camshafts.

The engine peripherals now include an entirely new intake system and the Brabus 800 bi-turbo system with two special manifolds with integrated turbine housings and high-performance turbochargers, and four water-to-air intercoolers. This ensemble is joined by a stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system custom-developed for the Brabus 800. It features free-flow metal catalysts and four chrome tailpipes that exit in pairs in front of both rear wheels.

Precision mapping for engine electronics coordinate the perfect interaction of all new components and ensures exemplary smoothness, maximum power yield and low emissions.

With these modifications the engine in the Brabus 800 WIDESTAR delivers a staggering rated power output of 800 hp (788 bhp) / 588 kW at 5,500 rpm and an even more impressive peak torque of 1,420 Nm (1,047 lb-ft), already available from a low 2.100 rpm. In the vehicle peak torque is limited electronically to 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft). The high-tech lubricants for the entire powertrain come from technology partner ARAL.

Driving performance speaks for itself: Combined with a reinforced five-speed automatic transmission and permanent four-wheel drive the engine shoots the Brabus 800 WIDESTAR from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.0 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 240 km/h (149 mph). Without the limiter the high-performance off-roader would be capable of reaching 270 km/h (168 mph).

In keeping with its unique performance the Brabus supercar also sports a delectable exterior: The Brabus WIDESTAR wide-body version lends the classic G-Class body an even more striking and dynamic profile.

The powerfully shaped fender flares add 12 centimeters (4.7 in.) to the body width. They feature integrated air outlets for optimized venting of the wheel wells. Strikingly styled door moldings give the sides of the G-Class high recognition value. Sturdy stainless-steel running boards facilitate entering and exiting of the vehicle day and night. LED lights integrated into the front and rear WIDESTAR fenders illuminate the running boards whenever a door handle is pulled or the keyless fob is operated.

The WIDESTAR fender flares create space for extremely large wheels and tires. Brabus offers the owner of the wide-body version, which is also available for all regular five-door G-Class models, a wide range of custom-tailored tire/wheel combinations with diameters between 20 and 23 inches. The most exclusive option for the 800 WIDESTAR features size 11Jx23 wheels front and back. Customers can choose from two newly developed forged wheels, the three-piece Monoblock E evo “PLATINUM EDITION” design or the one-piece Monoblock F “PLATINUM EDITION” wheel. The high-performance tires in size 305/35 R 23 come from Pirelli or YOKOHAMA.

The Brabus WIDESTAR version offers not just a wider track but also an even more impressive appearance. The front apron continues the shape of the flares on both sides and provides the engine and front brakes with cooling air through generously dimensioned air inlets. At the same time its sophisticated contour also reduces lift on the front axle. Six stylishly integrated auxiliary headlights optimize active safety at night. During the day the Brabus LED daytime running lights below the main headlamps draw attention to the power-G.

The design style of the front apron with its tapered flares and stylized underride guard is continued on the rear apron. The WIDESTAR rear bumper features a centrally mounted reflector and a fog lamp and backup light on either side. The designer suite is rounded out by the Brabus roof spoiler with integrated LED brake light.

For a perfect combination of sporty handling and excellent ride comfort the Brabus 800 WIDESTAR comes equipped with the innovative Brabus Ride Control smooth-ride suspension. The Brabus high-tech suspension system was developed in cooperation with technology partner BILSTEIN, and features two-way electrically adjustable shock absorbers front and back.

At the push of an aluminum button with Brabus logo on the center console the driver can manually choose between two setups: In comfort mode the off-roader offers exemplary ride comfort. At higher speeds or for more spirited driving selecting the firmer damper setting results in more dynamic handling and further increased safety reserves.

Additionally the Brabus Ride Control suspension features automatic damper adjustment. When the vehicle sensors detect that certain parameters such as speed, lateral acceleration and steering angle might lead to a critical situation the system automatically switches to the firmer sport setting within milliseconds. The sportier damper setup further increases the directional stability of the 4×4. The CAN control unit also detects a return to a more moderate driving style. It then automatically switches the shock absorbers back to the comfort position.

Another active safety feature is the Brabus high-performance brake system. The front axle is fitted with six-piston aluminum fixed calipers and vented discs with a diameter of 380 millimeters (15.0 inches). The rear stops on four-piston aluminum fixed calipers and 345-mm discs (13.6 inches).

The cockpit of the Brabus 800 WIDESTAR is exclusive and individual. The equipment list includes an ergonomically shaped sport steering wheel, a speedometer with 280-km/h (182-mph) dial and stainless-steel scuff plates with illuminated Brabus logo.

The Brabus interior is custom-tailored to suit the individual owner’s taste and the especially soft and breathable Brabus Mastik leather and Alcantara is available in a multitude of colors. Customers can also choose from various upholstery designs and the wood trim can be manufactured in any desired color. Upon request the wood elements can even be finished in the especially exclusive yachting design.

BRABUS 700 Biturbo Based on Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Premieres at Geneva Motor Show

The Brabus 700 Biturbo, based on the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, was officially revealed Tuesday at teh 2011 Geneva Motor Show

The Brabus 700 Biturbo, based on the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, was officially revealed Tuesday at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

To fit the Mercedes SLS V8 engine, the German tuner’s engineers have created their own twin-turbo system that achieves an output of 700 PS (514 kW / 690 bhp) and 850 Nm (626 lb-ft) of torque. The B63 bi-turbo system features a left-turning charger attached to the left side of the engine, as opposed to the more common right-charging, right-side fitted twin-turbochargers. Improved gas flow and dynamics are the result of this style of fitting.

Brabus created an ultra-light titanium exhaust system in house that features four slanted tailpipes that are 84 mm in diameter. In addition to new tailpipes, Brabus provides an inter-cooling system, performance exhaust manifold, sport air filter system, offers an ECU remap and forged its own fitted pistons that reduce the compression ratio to 9.0:1.

Final performance figures have the tuned SLS hitting 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds, 200 km/h (124 mph) in 10.2 seconds and offers a respectable top speed of 340 km/h (213 mph).

Brabus adds a wide-body kit (WIDESTAR) that widens the SLS 20 mm at the rear axle and gives a sportier look and feel. A new front spoiler, rear spoiler lip and rear diffuser are added in addition to the blue illuminated gills at the front fender.

To put even more emphasis on the wedge shape of the SLS AMG Gullwing, the Brabus Monoblock F “PLATINUM EDITION” wheels are mounted in 9.5J x 20-inch rims, with 275/30 ZR 20 tires on the front axle, and 11J x 21-inch covered by 295/25 ZR 21 tires on the back. Tires are either Pirelli or Yokohama.

Custom-tailored interiors have been a specialty of Brabus for more than three decades and Brabus livedup to their name on the Mercedes SLS interior. The Brabus upholstery shop crafts individual, exclusive interiors in any desired leather or Alcantara color for the SLS, offering a completely customizable look. There is also a new sport steering wheel, a 400 km/h (250 mph) speedometer, matte or shining carbon-fiber trims as well as matte anodized aluminum pedals and foot rest.

Sporty-elegant design paired with aerodynamic efficiency is the trademark of BRABUS and is seen on the new CLS

With the recent release of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, Brabus has turned their attention to Mercedes’ four-door coupe range in time for the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.  Although it will likely be some time before we see another 200+ mph BRABUS Rocket, the new BRABUS CLS is quite a car.

The second Mercedes CLS generation has arrived and in a world debut BRABUS presents an exclusive tuning program for the new four-door coupe at the Geneva Motor Show 2011.

Sporty-elegant design paired with aerodynamic efficiency is the trademark of BRABUS. For the new CLS body components were developed in the wind tunnel. They are manufactured in OEM quality from flexible high-quality Pur-R-Rim.

The BRABUS front spoiler is mounted to the production bumper and noticeably reduces lift on the front axle at high speeds. The front can be further upgraded with the BRABUS front apron caps. They feature strikingly styled air inlets and LED daytime running lights, available with either dark or chrome surrounds.

The CLS gets a distinctly dynamic appearance with the BRABUS sport fenders. In addition to gills each side also features a horizontal brace with illuminated BRABUS lettering.

The BRABUS sill skirts give the four-door an even lower, sleeker stance. A useful and appealing added feature is the set of integrated entrance lights that are activated via keyless fob or door handles.

LED lights for safely accessing the trunk in the dark are integrated into the BRABUS rear apron. Custom-tailored cutouts in the new rear apron provide the perfect backdrop for the four tailpipes of the BRABUS sport exhaust system. The rear appearance is rounded out with a centrally mounted reflector.

The BRABUS rear spoiler creates a perfect aerodynamic balance and emphasizes the sporty character of the BRABUS designer suit.

Another important contribution to the exclusive BRABUS look for the new CLS comes from the BRABUS Monoblock wheels in sizes ranging from 8.5Jx17 to 10.5Jx20. The OEM-quality alloys are available as one-piece and three piece wheels in six different designs.

The most exclusive version features BRABUS Monoblock VI, E or S wheels in size 9Jx20 in front and size 10.5Jx20 in back. The latest addition to the BRABUS wheel family is the BRABUS Monoblock F wheel. Presented initially as a forged wheel it is now also available as a 20-inch cast wheel, which also celebrates its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2011. On the new CLS this wheel can be mounted in sizes 8.5Jx20 and 9.5Jx20, painted a grey “Liquid Titanium” shade. The largest tires supplied by BRABUS technology partners Pirelli and YOKOHAMA for these wheels come in size 255/30 ZR 20 in front and in size 305/25 ZR 20 for the rear axle.

Specially calibrated to the use of sporty low-profile tires are the BRABUS suspension solutions, developed in cooperation with technology partner BILSTEIN. The lineup ranges from BRABUS sport springs for a ride-height lowering by some 30 millimeters (1.2 in.). Sportier ambitions can be met with the BRABUS complete suspension, which combines the ride-height lowering with firmer but yet comfortable damper settings. CLS models equipped ex-factory with the semi-active AIRMATIC air suspension system can be lowered by some 35 millimeters (1.4 in.) with the BRABUS suspension module.

BRABUS offers the world’s most extensive performance tuning program for Mercedes-Benz automobiles. The CLS 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY model equipped with BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D4 performance kit delivers an additional 31 hp (31 bhp) / 22.8 kW and produces a peak torque of 560 Nm (413 lb-ft).

For the CLS 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY BRABUS offers the ECO PowerXtra D6S tuning kit. The plug-and-play auxiliary control unit can be installed by any authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer or any BRABUS competence partner in less than 45 minutes. This high-tech performance tuning also gives the driver the opportunity to influence power yield via the selected shift program of the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission.

In ‘Eco’ mode only peak torque is increased from 620 Nm to 690 Nm (457 to 509 lb-ft) between 1,600 and 2,400 rpm. The maximum power output remains unchanged. If the ‘Sport’ mode is selected manually or activated automatically both peak torque and power output are increased. Maximum rated power output then jumps from 265 hp (261 bhp) / 195 kW to 313 hp (309 bhp) / 230 kW at a low 3,600 rpm. Using this setting, the tuned turbodiesel model sprints from 0 – 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds. Top speed is limited electronically to 250 km/h (155 mph).

All BRABUS engines are operated exclusively with ARAL high-performance lubricants.

Fully stainless-steel BRABUS quad sport exhaust systems are available for all CLS engine variants. The precision-calibrated exhaust systems optimize power yield and produce a throaty exhaust note.

Exclusive interior design that meets every customer request is a particular BRABUS specialty. The options for the new Mercedes CLS range from appealing accessories to custom-tailored interiors crafted from especially soft and breathable yet highly durable BRABUS Mastik leather and Alcantara.

The ergonomically shaped BRABUS sport steering wheel is available in a variety of leather/wood designs. It provides perfect road feedback and ensures a relaxed posture for long-distance driving.

Scuff plates with illuminated BRABUS logo or the speedometer with 340-km/h dial (213 mph) add individual highlights as do the distinctly sporty BRABUS interior accessories: They include aluminum components such as pedal pads, door-lock pins and shifter, and high-quality clear-coated carbon-fiber inlays for dashboard and center console. BRABUS also offers wood trim in any desired color and grain.

The four-door CLS coupe can also be equipped with a custom-tailored BRABUS multimedia package.

2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class Tuner by BRABUS

Brabus offers up the first look at their basic tuning package for the 2012 Mercedes CLS-Class

Brabus has been building the world’s fastest street-legal vehicles for some time now, which, as you may remember, includes the mighty Brabus Rocket. Based on the prior Mercedes-Benz CLS platform, the Brabus Rocket has a top speed of 227.24 mph, and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in a mere 4.0 seconds. Now, with the release of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class, Brabus has again turned their attention to Mercedes’ four-door coupe range, although it will likely be some time before we see another 200+ mph variant.

Here are the first photos of Brabus’ work on the 2012 CLS-Class, which as you can see, is fairly limited in its scope.  It is, however, a good reminder that an insanely fast Brabus CLS is likely in the works, which I think we all can agree, is a very, very good thing.  While we’re waiting, check out more photos of the first Brabus tuned 2012 Mercedes CLS in the gallery below, and we’ll keep you up to date on any new Brabus CLS details as soon as they’re available.

BRABUS Creates World’s First Tuned Car to Meet the EURO VI Emission Standard

The Mercedes S 350 BlueTec with BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D6S Performance Kit for 313 hp / 230 kW and 690 Nm Peak Torque

The world’s first tuned car to meet the new EURO VI exhaust emission standard comes from BRABUS . Equipped with the BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D6S performance kit the new Mercedes S 350 BlueTEC delivers an additional 55 hp (54 bhp) / 40.5 kW of power and a peak torque of 690 Nm (509 lb-ft). This tuning kit also makes BRABUS the first tuner to meet the strict limits of the EURO VI emission standard that won’t go into effect until 2014. In emission testing required for certification the S 350 BlueTEC with BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D6S remained below the EURO VI limits by 30 percent. Special versions of the BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D6S performance kit are also available for all four body styles of the Mercedes E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY model and for the new CLS 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY.

For more than three decades now engine tuning ‘made by BRABUS’ has stood for enormous performance combined with durability and suitability for daily use beyond reproach. Just as important for the engine specialists in the BRABUS engineering center in Bottrop has always been the perfect symbiosis of high performance and excellent eco-friendliness.

Already back in 1986 BRABUS presented the first tuned car that was equipped with a catalytic converter, the Mercedes 190 E with AB1 tuning kit. One year later the entire BRABUS engine range was converted to eco-friendly emission control by means of catalysts.

Sizeable investments into the development of high-performance metal catalysts culminated in 1999 in the presentation of the BRABUS 5.8 high-capacity engine based on the Mercedes 500.294 The V8 engine delivered 400 hp (394 bhp) / 294 kW and already undercut the Euro IV emission standard that didn’t go into effect until 2005. In emission testing required for homologation the engine bested the new standard’s permissible emissions by up to 56 percent. That qualified the Mercedes CL 500 equipped with this engine even in California as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV).

At the Frankfurt Motor Show IAA 2001 the BRABUS E V8 CDI, based on the Mercedes-Benz E-Class of the time, celebrated its world premiere. At that time this sedan was the only diesel car in the world equipped with a diesel particulate filter and De-NOx catalysts. It was the first diesel engine to successfully pass Euro IV emission tests that didn’t become law until four years later. Incidentally, the E V8 CDI was also the most powerful diesel car available anywhere in the world at the time.

The BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D6 BLUE power kit for the Mercedes E 300 BLUETEC set another milestone on the path to increasingly cleaner high-performance automobiles in 2007. It made BRABUS the first tuner to meet strict EURO V exhaust emission limits, which go into effect in 2011. In emission tests BRABUS-tuned engines remained below permissible limits by up to 65 percent.

The Mercedes S 350 BlueTEC is one of the first diesel-powered cars on the market that meets the EURO VI emission standard. For a reputable tuner it also raises the bar to new unfamiliar heights. In contrast to almost all other tuners BRABUS has its own engine development department equipped with state-of-the-art test-bench technology and emission laboratory.

For the V6 turbodiesel engine with common-rail direct injection the engineers developed the BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D6S module for the electronic engine management system of the S 350 BlueTEC. The auxiliary control unit can also be installed in the 4MATIC four-wheel- drive model. It is designed as a plug-and-play device and is integrated into the CAN data bus of the luxury sedan. The BRABUS mapping was adapted specifically to the eco-friendly BlueTEC concept that uses AdBlue® SCR technology.

The BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D6S kit comes with a very special feature. The extent of the performance increase is dependent on the selected shift mode of the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission. In ‘Eco’ mode the maximum power output of the engine remains unchanged but peak torque jumps from standard 620 Nm to 690 Nm (457 to 509 lb-ft), on tap between 1,600 and 2,400 rpm. Upon switching to ‘Manual’ or ‘Sport’ mode the increase in torque is accompanied by an increase in maximum power output from 258 hp (255 bhp) / 190 kW to 313 hp (308 bhp) / 230 kW at a low 3,600 rpm.

In this configuration the tuned S 350 sprints from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 6.5 seconds, half a second faster than the production car. Top speed is limited electronically to 250 km/h (155 mph).

The BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D6S performance kit is also available for all four body styles of the Mercedes E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and for the new CLS 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY model. The engine parameters are identical. Maximum power output for these models also jumps to 313 hp (308 bhp) / 230 kW at a low 3,600 rpm and peak torque grows to 690 Nm (509 lb-ft).

On the road the 2.987-ccm (182.3 cubic inches) V6 with BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D6S tuning and the standard seven-speed automatic gearbox delivers excellent performance. But that’s not all: The increase in torque results in further improved pulling power, which benefits fuel economy. Depending on driving style, fuel economy of all models can be further improved over their production counterparts.

Like all BRABUS components the BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D6S performance kit is backed by the BRABUS Tuning Warranty® of three years, up to 100,000 kilometers / 62,000 miles (see BRABUS warranty conditions, as of November 2006).

The perfect complement to the BRABUS ECO PowerXtra D6S performance kit for all model series is the custom-tailored BRABUS sport exhaust system with four polished tailpipes. The fully stainless-steel exhaust systems lend the common-rail engine a more powerful exhaust note and further optimize power yield.
