For throwback Thursday, we went way back to October 2006 for a look at the S600 Guard.  My how times have changed.

To the elite few of you looking for protection that only a well-armored vehicle can provide, you’re in luck, Mercedes today has released details of their new S600 Guard, a model designed to meet even the most stringent standards of personal safety (and did I mention it’s the same car driven by Bella in Stephanie Myer’s Breaking Dawn book from the Twilight Series).

Boasting a Euro standard resistance level of B6/B7, the S600 Guard is capable of withstanding up to military-grade small-arms projectiles. As if that wasn’t enough, Mercedes engineers then took the S600 Guard a step further, surpassing requirements not specified in any standards by adding additional protection from explosives and hand grenades.

Of course, what fun is owning an armored vehicle when it looks and drives like a tank, so the final step to compete the S600 Guard was to make it look and drive like… well… an S600. Despite its new protective cage, re-engineered chassis, bulletproof glass, self-sealing gas tank and all of its other numerous life-saving measures, the S600 is virtually indistinguishable from the standard S600 model. In other words, it’s one fine automobile.
