MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One driver Nico Rosberg and Mercedes-Benz DTM driver Christian Vietoris attended the 42nd Ball des Sports held in Wiesbaden on the February 4th.

During the afternoon, Rosberg who is a native of Wiesbaden, was formally received at the town hall by Mayor Helmut Müller and invited to sign the ‘Golden Book’. This historical register weighs in at 35 kilos, and the first name entered back in 1902 is that of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Other famous signatures include those of current German Chancellor Angela Merkel, former President of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev, the Dalai Lama, TV compere Thomas Gottschalk and former German national football team manager Helmut Schön.

One of the highlights of the evening was seeing Nico Rosberg chauffeuring celebrity guests right up to the red carpet in a 517-horsepower C63 AMG Black Series. “I’m very impressed by the way that Mercedes-Benz and Deutsche Sporthilfe are promoting sport at the highest level in this country,” said Nico. “And I’m very pleased to be making my own small contribution.”

Ball des Sports is Europe’s most successful fund-raising event for sporting causes. 1,800 prominent guests from the worlds of sport, business, politics, culture and the media accepted the invitation to attend, including 140 reigning and former world and European champions plus medal winners from the Olympic and Paralympics Games.

Amongst the best-known sports personalities were Reiner Calmund, Jens Lehmann, Felix Magath, Franziska van Almsick, Heiner Brand, Regina Halmich, Jutta Kleinschmidt, Sven Ottke, Otto Rehhagel and Katarina Witt.

This was the fifth year in succession that Mercedes-Benz has assumed the mantle of national sponsor for the Deutsche Sporthilfe Foundation, making no fewer than 70 vehicles available for shuttle services.
