Mercedes-Benz Bets Big on the Future of Luxury Vans

How the Vision V is Redefining High-End Travel

For decades, Mercedes-Benz has reigned supreme in the world of automotive luxury, synonymous with sleek sedans, high-performance SUVs, and the kind of automotive craftsmanship that commands attention. But in 2026, the German automaker is preparing to redefine what high-end travel looks like—this time, in a van.

Enter the Vision V, a concept vehicle that is less minivan and more mobile penthouse, designed to blur the lines between utility and opulence. Unveiled in teaser form ahead of an April 2025 debut, the Vision V represents not just an evolution of Mercedes-Benz Vans, but a bold statement about the future of mobility itself.

The Next Chapter: VAN.EA
At the heart of this transformation is the new Van Electric Architecture (VAN.EA), a modular, flexible, and fully scalable platform underpinning a diverse range of future vehicles. Whether it’s a spacious family transporter, an exclusive VIP shuttle, or an ultra-luxurious limousine with cavernous interiors, VAN.EA provides the structural DNA.

In an era where electrification has become a competitive necessity, Mercedes-Benz is not merely adapting—it is aiming to dominate. The platform promises seamless integration of cutting-edge battery technology, sustainable materials, and next-generation digital interfaces. The future of luxury, it seems, isn’t just about leather seats and ambient lighting—it’s about intelligent design, electric efficiency, and a level of personalization that caters to a clientele accustomed to first-class travel.

A New Standard in Van Luxury
Historically, vans have been a category defined by practicality. They move people and cargo, sometimes with comfort, but rarely with extravagance. Mercedes-Benz, however, is positioning itself to rewrite that narrative. The Vision V is expected to push beyond conventional expectations with handcrafted materials, an abundance of space, and a hyper-modern aesthetic that leans heavily into digital sophistication.

For Mercedes-Benz, the play is as much about carving out a new niche as it is about meeting demand. The high-end transportation market is evolving, with luxury hospitality, private aviation, and concierge-driven experiences shaping consumer expectations. If hotels can curate lavish, tailor-made stays, and private jets can be configured to the taste of their owners, why shouldn’t luxury vans follow suit?

The Road Ahead
As the luxury automotive market moves toward electrification and software-defined vehicles, Mercedes-Benz is embracing change with an audacious vision. The Vision V is more than just a showpiece—it’s a harbinger of a future where vans become status symbols, redefining how high-net-worth individuals and businesses think about mobility.

The full unveiling in April 2025 will provide more answers. For now, Mercedes-Benz is leaving the world with a tantalizing glimpse of what’s to come: a van that is, perhaps, not really a van at all—but something entirely new.

Mercedes-Benz Leads Commercial Van Segment with New Sprinter Van

Mercedes-Benz unveiled new Sprinter van that is now safer, greener and more economical that ever before

There is no question that the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van has proven to be a success, offering a tall Euro-style van in the already overcrowded and bland commercial van segment. Originally arriving in 2003 under the Dodge brand (when Daimler owned Chrysler) and now under Mercedes-Benz since 2010, the Sprinter was a pioneer in the segment worldwide.

Today, however, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has several competitors all wanting a piece of the Euro-style van market, specifically in the U.S.. This morning, with the launch of their new Sprinter – the first overhaul of the Sprinter since 2006 – Mercedes-Benz is proving that they’re still, and will remain, the leader in the field.

The new Sprinter continues to set the benchmark in safety, eco-friendliness, and style. The new Sprinter, available for order in June, boasts five new safety systems, engines that meet the future Euro VI emissions standard, a four-cylinder diesel engine for the U.S., and a far more rugged appearance. More importantly to buyers, however, is the decreased fuel consumption. The new Sprinter model will offer decreased fuel consumption over the current Sprinter, which at present averages around 25 miles to the gallon.

Customers can order the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter beginning in June 2013; deliveries will begin in September.

World premiere of new safety systems

The Sprinter has always been a pioneer with regard to driver assistance systems. Five new assistance systems — including several van firsts — will help reduce the number of accidents even further in the new Sprinter.

The following systems are celebrating their world debut in the Sprinter: Crosswind Assist, which is fitted as standard, and COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST and Blind Spot Assist, which are both optional. Other new features are Highbeam Assist and Lane Keeping Assist. The developers at Mercedes-Benz are convinced that these electronic assistants will play a key role in helping to reduce accidents in the van sector.

As one of the functions of the Electronic Stability Program, Crosswind Assist will be part of the vehicle’s range of standard equipment. Customers will be able to order the other assistance systems as individual options or as components of logically assembled packages. This allows every customer to tailor the Sprinter to its specific area of application.

In addition, Mercedes-Benz has improved the Sprinter’s handling even further. The lowering of the chassis has improved the van’s drag and fuel consumption and makes it easier to load and unload cargo.

World’s first van to meet the future Euro VI emissions standard

The new Sprinter is the world’s first van to meet the future Euro VI emissions standard in all of its engine variants. Euro VI drastically reduces the emission limits for nitrogen oxides (NOx), total hydrocarbons (THC), and particulate mass. The Sprinter achieves the strict limits with the help of its BlueTEC engine and SCR technology that injects AdBlue into the exhaust gas. The technology has already proven its worth in more than 100,000 commercial vehicles from Mercedes-Benz.

The performance of the diesel engines has remained unchanged, encompassing four- and six-cylinder units with outputs ranging from 70 kW (95 hp) to 140 kW (190 hp).

The developers have used the additional exhaust treatment stage to optimize the injection and combustion processes as well as the boost pressure. The results are lower fuel consumption and less combustion noise. The engineers also adjusted the drive system and the ancillary components to enhance fuel efficiency. This applies to the transmission and the rear axle as well as an intelligent generator management system.

As an alternative to the diesel engines, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is also available with a Euro VI compliant supercharged four-cylinder gasoline engine featuring direct injection. The engine generates 115 kW (156 hp) from a total displacement of 1.8 liters. The engine is also available in a natural gas variant with the same performance.

Power is transmitted either by the ECO-Gear six-speed manual transmission or the 7G-TRONIC PLUS seven-speed automatic transmission with lock-up clutch, which is the only system of its kind to be found in a van.

Most economical van in its class

The combination of the highly efficient diesel engines, the optimized powertrain, the longer axle ratio, the ancillary components, and the BlueEFFICIENCY PLUS efficiency package has reduced fuel consumption to a minimum of 6.3 l/100 km (NEDC combined), which is a record value for the Sprinter segment. However, the new Sprinter is extremely economical not only as a result of its high fuel efficiency, but also because it comes with the ASSYST maintenance calculation system as standard in Europe. Thanks to this system, the van’s maintenance intervals, which were already long, have been extended to up to 60,000 km.

Enhanced exterior and interior

The new Sprinter’s appearance has also been substantially enhanced and made more striking. In line with Mercedes-Benz’ current design, the van’s radiator grille is now more vertical and confident. The grille’s three slats are perforated and wedge-shaped. Not only does this change create a more dynamic impression, it also increases the airflow. In addition, a frame surrounds the brand’s distinctive radiator grille, making it more prominent.

Another change involves the headlights, which are now more angular. The covers on the reflector housings are particularly striking, dividing the headlights into separate segments. The new hood is higher and the more distinctly shaped bumpers have finely worked lower edges similar to those found on SUVs. The new Sprinter is immediately recognizable from the rear, due to its double-segmented taillights.

The widely acknowledged exemplary interior has also been further enhanced. Comfort has been boosted by the new upholstery and seat coverings, the thicker steering wheel makes gripping easier, and the fresh air nozzles boast chrome applications if the customer opts for a multifunctional steering wheel. The knob of the gearshift lever has been redesigned as well.

The Sprinter is also fitted with a new-generation radio system that equips the van not only with state-of-the-art electronic entertainment features and Bluetooth telephone equipment (including a telephone keypad and phonebook), but also the Becker MAP PILOT navigation system.

Millions of kilometers of testing; orders can be placed beginning in June

The developers of the new Sprinter made sure that the van was thoroughly tested. More than eight million kilometers of endurance testing and extensive customer trials in everyday use had fully demonstrated the new Sprinter’s high quality by the time series production was launched.

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Finds Success on U.S. Roads

The practical design and outstanding quality of the Mercedes Sprinter translate to impressive cargo capacity and low operating costs

With its sleek, eye‐catching design, impressive cargo capacity and efficient turbodiesel engine, the highly successful Sprinter commercial van continues to set the pace for the modern van market segment, and has enjoyed tremendous sales growth in the U.S. After decades of truck‐based box vans with gasoline engines, the Sprinter burst into the European market in 1995, then made its U.S. debut in 2001.

The practical design and outstanding quality of the Sprinter translate to impressive cargo capacity and low operating costs. With its efficient BlueTEC diesel engine, the Sprinter gets higher fuel mileage than its competitors, while its high roof and large door openings give the van class‐leading cargo carrying ability. Large delivery companies have moved to Sprinter vans, and it’s also become a favorite of small businesses such as catering firms and building trades.

The Sprinter Success Story

The Sprinter cargo van features a best‐in‐class payload capacity of 5,415 pounds and cargo capacity of up to 547 cubic feet. The van also boasts the largest side‐ and rear‐door openings as well as the lowest load floor and step‐in height of any full‐size van.

The Sprinter has been sold in the U.S. since 2001 by Freightliner, the leading manufacturer of medium and heavy‐duty trucks in North America, and through select Mercedes‐Benz dealers since 2010. Both MBUSA and Freightliner are divisions of Daimler AG, the world’s largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles.

All Sprinters come with a number of Mercedes‐Benz safety features ‐‐ ESP stability and rollover control, ABS anti‐lock brakes, Brake Assist and traction control. The driver and front passenger seats are equipped with standard multi‐stage front air bags, and side curtain and torso air bags are optionally available.

Fuel‐Efficient BlueTEC Diesel Power

All Mercedes‐Benz Sprinters are equipped with a 3.0‐liter V6 diesel that gets 30 percent better fuel economy than a comparable gasoline engine. Recent independent tests showed up to 24.9 miles per gallon (highway) for the full‐size commercial van. Standard equipment also includes a five‐speed automatic transmission, four‐wheel disc brakes and transverse monoleaf composite front suspension and a solid axle with leaf springs at the rear. Several choices of springs, shock absorbers and stabilizer bars provide just the right suspension for each version of the Sprinter van.

Sprinter Appeals to Upfitters

In particular, the design of the Sprinter van appeals to upfitters, companies that specialize in building custom vehicles ranging from ambulances and work trucks to luxury motor homes and executive coaches. These vehicles bring to life the best‐in‐class engineering, fuel economy, quality and safety of the versatile Sprinter van in a broad range of real‐world settings.

About the Sprinter Preferred Upfitter Program

The Sprinter Preferred Upfitter Program now boasts 85 approved companies who are building Sprinter‐based custom vehicles. Meeting the diverse needs of Sprinter customers is especially important, since 75 percent of all Sprinters are sold with some type of upfitter modification that’s designed to ensure the quality and safety of all modifications. To become a Preferred Upfitter, several Sprinter specialists review each upfitter’s plans, visit their facility while work is in progress and inspect finished vans. Approved upfitters get advance product information, exclusive access to certain options and ship‐through service. Each upfitter also receives special electronics system programming that’s tailored to the customer’s need.

Mercedes-Benz Viano Vision Diamond Premieres in Beijing

The Mercedes-Benz Viano Vision Diamond offers luxurious appointments for business or relaxing travel

The Beijing Auto Show kicked off today and Mercedes-Benz is showing off several of their new models including the Viano VISION DIAMOND show car.  This chauffeured vehicle makes a big impression right from the start with its black radiator grille, chromed grille louvers, and two-tone exterior paint job. A fine, shimmering gold line painted by hand separates the two body colors of black and diamond white, and a painted diamond adorns the B-pillar. The two-tone effect is repeated in the rims of the five-spoke wheels, and the brakes feature the words “Mercedes-Benz” in gold.

The interior underscores the extravagant nature of the model as well. Luxurious appointments in the rear include a special innovative multimedia unit that allows passengers to choose between a business setting or a comfortable ambience for relaxing.

The show runs from April 23 – May 2, 2012.

Regulation of sunlight intensity in the interior

The windows of the passenger compartment, as well as the rear window and the glass partition between the chauffeur and the passenger compartment, are all equipped with the MAGIC SKY CONTROL system, which enables passengers to change the interior lighting conditions with just the push of a button.

This changes the color of the windows, an effect that is made possible by a liquid in the window glass that reacts to differences in electric current. The chauffeur’s area is completely black in color, the seats and door paneling are covered in the finest nappa leather, and leather also covers the instrument panel, the steering wheel, the gearshift, and the A- and B-pillars. The passenger compartment is entirely in porcelain white, from the carpet and the seats to the safety belts and the ceiling.

Champagne glass holders and an automatic Champagne bottle cooling unit

The passenger compartment features two top-of-the-line seating accommodations equipped with heating, cooling, and massage features as well as calf benches and footrests. Between the seats are cup holders and Champagne glass holders for the model’s silver Champagne flutes, which appear at the push of a button. The side paneling has five bottle holders as well. The Champagne bottle retainer is equipped with a cooling system. Eight diamonds embedded in the interior trim refer to the lucky Chinese number eight and underscore the vehicle’s luxurious atmosphere.

Additional equipment features include the Bang & Olufsen “BeoSound Viano” high-end sound system, which can be conveniently operated via two iPad 2 or iPhone 4 devices. The mobile communication devices can also regulate the interior lighting and control the sound system for the model’s 40-inch screen, which can be used for everything from watching television to surfing the Internet and participating in video conferences. A special app was developed exclusively for this control feature; the devices are secured in a docking station in the center console. The screen itself has a black aluminum frame and is situated behind the chauffeur area. The push of a button is all it takes to lower the screen and the partition. An intercom is available for communication between the cockpit and the passenger compartment. The vehicle is equipped with a W-LAN system that enables Web videoconferencing, among other things.

Mercedes-Benz Citan World Premiere

The new Citan rounds out the Mercedes-Benz van family and will be launched with a comprehensive model range

Mercedes-Benz is celebrating the world premiere of its new Citan delivery van ahead of its public debut at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hanover this September.  The Citan is the first vehicle created as a result of the strategic partnership between Daimler and Renault-Nissan and is the perfect addition the the brand’s van family which already includes the Sprinter and the Vito.

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz Citan has an unmistakable, brand-specific look with large chromed Mercedes-Benz star within the large three-slat radiator grille. Also unique to the new Citan are the striking headlights and the wedge-shaped hood with its clearly defined edges.

The interior is similarly unmistakable, featuring many high-quality appointments. The driver and front passenger sit on firm yet comfortably upholstered seats. The curve-hugging shape of the backrest in particular provides good side support, thus enhancing comfort and safety. The ergonomic, driver-focused instrument panel with its leather-like grained surface has a look and feel that are immediately familiar and reflect the high quality of the vehicle’s interior.

Choice of three lengths and three model variants

Due to its versatility and adaptability, the new Mercedes-Benz Citan fulfils a broad range of commercial applications. Based on a panel van, this urban delivery van is available in three different lengths: 3.94 m, 4.32 m and 4.71 m.

There will also be a variable, five-seater Citan Mixto vehicle with folding rear seat bench, wire mesh partition separating the load compartment, and two sliding doors. This mixed-use vehicle is based on the extra-long variant. The third basic design is the Citan crewbus, which is also a five-seater vehicle with folding rear seat bench and optional sliding doors on each side, but this time with a long wheelbase. Depending on the model, there are also three different weights ranging up to a maximum permissible gross vehicle weight of 2200 kilograms.

As an alternative to the standard rear-end doors, Mercedes-Benz will be supplying the Citan with a wide-opening tailgate. Optional roof rails boost flexibility as does the optional ladder hatch for the panel van to facilitate the transportation of extra-long items.

Comprehensive safety equipment

As is the case with every Mercedes-Benz vehicle, safety plays a big role in the new Citan. The urban delivery van comes with the Electronic Stability Program ADAPTIVE ESP® as standard, which takes the vehicle load into consideration. This innovative dynamic handling control system in the new Citan combines the functions of the anti-locking braking system ABS®, VDC® (Vehicle Dynamic Control) which counters over- and understeer, and TCS® (Traction Control System). It also includes ASR® (acceleration skid control) and drive and braking torque control.

Up to six airbags onboard as standard

Start-off Assist, daytime running lamps, height-adjustable seat belts, belt tensioners and belt force limiters for the driver and front passenger, a seat belt reminder and driver airbag all come as standard. Amongst other standard features, the Citan crewbus (with M1 homologation) additionally has a front passenger airbag, thorax sidebags and windowbags for the driver and front passenger.

In the panel van, a full partition wall protects the driver and front passenger from loads sliding or tipping over. There are rings in the rear for securing the load. A plastic floor covering and partial trim prevent items with sharp edges from damaging the body in the load compartment.

Characteristic brand look with prominent radiator grille

The Mercedes-Benz Citan is instantly recognisable as a Mercedes-Benz thanks to the vehicle’s characteristic brand look. Providing the brand signature, the chromed star is self-assuredly set against the prominent, robust radiator grille with three sporty perforated louvres. The Mercedes-Benz Citan’s bold headlamps and the pronounced V-shape to the bonnet with its clearly defined edges are equally striking.

The trapezoidal shape of the air intake in the bumper emphasises width and the powerful impression made by the Citan. Again, this feature is one of the brand’s typical style elements at the present time, from the latest Mercedes-Benz cars in the compact class through to the new Actros.

A distinctive tail end styled in detail

Also emphasising width, the angular lower edge of the rear window mirrors the line of the vertically mounted tail lights, the detail of the new Citan reflecting the expert hand of Mercedes-Benz designers. On variants with rear-end doors, the numberplate is affixed on the wider, left-hand side of the asymmetric doors. When buyers order their Mercedes-Benz Citan with a tailgate, the numberplate is positioned centrally.

The new Citan is a compelling urban delivery van with a unique appearance and fits seamlessly into the portfolio alongside the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Vito vans.

Equipped to a high standard for ergonomic and comfortable working

Just as distinctive, the interior of the new Mercedes-Benz Citan is equipped to a high standard. Both the driver and front passenger benefit from equally firm, comfortably padded seats. The form-fitting shape of the backrests in particular provides lateral support, thereby ensuring comfort and safety. Drawing on the brand’s typical design idiom, the fabric cover on the seats is skin-friendly and breathable, as well as easy to care for and durable.

As powerful and striking as the exterior of the new Citan, the instrument panel is designed around the driver. The surface has a leather-like grain for an attractive look and feel.

Drivers of any other Mercedes-Benz will immediately feel at home in the cockpit of the new Citan and not just due to the familiar star on the steering wheel: the combination switches, gearknob, light switches and keys on the instrument panel all meet Mercedes-Benz’s usual standards for the driver’s area in terms of layout, look and function. Trim over the glove compartment enhances the interior further.

Focus on functionality

The Citan is all about meeting the challenges faced in day-to-day operations. Functional features include a large glove compartment, a stowage compartment between the front seats and a useful overhead stowage compartment across the entire width of the windscreen to accommodate all those items that drivers keep on hand on a daily basis. The practical, standard equipment for the new Citan includes a height-adjustable steering wheel, central locking with remote control and exterior mirrors which can be adjusted from inside.

Engines covering all requirements

The choice of engines is broad. Three high-torque, turbodiesel direct-injection engines with outputs from 55 kW (75 hp) to 81 kW (110 hp) and a nippy, supercharged petrol engine generating 84 kW (114 PS) cover all standard requirements. All the diesel engines have a particulate filter as standard. Five and six-speed transmissions with a joystick gearshift positioned within easy reach on the centre console transmit power to the front wheels.

Handling as expected of the brand: safe and smooth

The developers of the Mercedes-Benz Citan have paid particular attention to ensuring that the handling is as expected of the brand, delivering a combination of driving dynamics, agility and ride comfort. The Direct-Steer system is accurate and sensitive, while the suspension, damping and stabiliser bars have been carefully attuned to each other.

Whether empty or loaded, the new Citan is a bona fide Mercedes-Benz, offering precision, driving safety and the smooth handling that drivers are accustomed to from the Sprinter and Vito.

Economical thanks to low fuel consumption

Outstanding economy is another trademark of the new Citan. In addition to long service intervals of up to 40,000 km or two years, this extends to fuel consumption. Factors here are the economical drive system together with the standard electrohydraulic steering.

A gearshift indicator as standard helps drivers of the new Citan to adopt an economical driving style. Fleet operators are able to increase the efficiency of the new Citan still further by way of speed limitation set ex factory.

BlueEFFICIENCY package reduces consumption further

The petrol-engined Citan comes with a BlueEFFICIENCY package as standard, which is optional for the diesel versions. Amongst other features this includes the ECO start/stop function, battery and generator management, plus optimised low rolling resistance tyres depending on the variant which again reduce fuel consumption.

Options allow the Citan to be adapted fully to customer requirements

Thanks to a range of individualisation options, the new Mercedes-Benz Citan can be tailored with ease to a customer-specific deployment scenario. In addition to safety and comfort options, there are also numerous functional extras to choose from.

Different partition systems, a folding front passenger seat to enlarge the load compartment, various door and window configurations and load compartment trim options are just a selection from the extensive range. Accessories that can be supplied ex factory include roof racks, carrier systems and load-compartment tubs. As an alternative to individual options, Citan buyers have access to various specially created packages.

The new Mercedes-Benz Citan is turning out to be a true transport professional in every detail. Special superstructures made by bodybuilders can be adapted to the vehicle technology with the help of a special interface and a parameterisable special module.

Tailor-made service portfolio

Attractive, tailor-made financing and service offerings are being prepared for the new Mercedes-Benz Citan. These aspects are very important to customers so the new Citan scores highly thanks to the integrated expertise of Mercedes-Benz Vans.

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Undergoes Winter Testing

The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is the first and only van to be available with a seven-speed torque-converter automatic transmission

Spring 2012 sees the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter adopt a number of product enhancements which underline its ambition to lead the large van segment. The tough, practical testing focuses on the key customer requirements of safety, economy and comfort.

The Sprinter is the first van in the world to be available with a seven-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. Fuel consumption is reduced even further by the BlueEFFICIENCY package and a higher axle ratio. What’s more, the standard-fit ESP® has additional and enhanced functionality. Like all new components of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, these new features have to demonstrate their ability to withstand extreme testing in unforgiving conditions near the Arctic Circle.

At temperatures of minus 30 degrees Celsius – and even lower – the new features have to prove that they meet the high quality standards of Mercedes-Benz. Testing begins with the cold-start performance of the engine equipped with the BlueEFFICIENCY package. Then it’s the turn of the new, seven-speed automatic transmission to demonstrate that it can still deliver silky smooth gearchanges when the ambient temperature is as low as that in a freezer. The same goes for the control systems. Their sensors have to be tuned with absolute precision to ensure that the systems are always ready to intervene with corrective measures – regardless of how hostile the operating conditions may be.

ADAPTIVE ESP® as standard: functionality extended once again

Mercedes-Benz has raised the already exemplary safety standard of the Sprinter to an even higher level. Since the start of the year, the van has been equipped with a new generation of ADAPTIVE ESP® with additional functions. The new features include:

Brake Disk Wipe: in the wet, this system builds up a low level of brake pressure on a cyclical basis. This wipes the film of water off the brake disc so that the full braking power is available straight away if it should be required.

Electronic Brake Prefill: if the driver releases the pressure on the accelerator suddenly, this is interpreted as the first step of an imminent braking process. The system reacts to this by gently applying the brake pads to the brake disc.

This means that the air gap between the two friction partners is effectively already reduced to zero by the time the driver presses the brake pedal. In this way, the reaction time for any braking which may be required is reduced.

In order to ensure that the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter meets the high standards demanded by its customers, tough quality checks are also carried out during the winter testing in Arjeplog. These concern all the vehicle systems – without exception. So along with the new ADAPTIVE ESP®, the new seven-speed torque-converter automatic transmission has to prove its ability to cope with snow and ice for the umpteenth time. The verdict of the test engineers is unequivocal: top quality performance, even under extreme winter conditions.

In a world first, the new 7G-Tronic transmission will be available as an option for a van with effect from this spring. This seven-speed automatic transmission, which has a fully electronic control system and has already proved itself in many Mercedes-Benz passenger car models, has been adapted to meet the specific requirements of use in a van.

The great advantage of the new transmission with its seven gears is that it combines a wide spread between the lowest and the highest gears with closely spaced ratios. In practice, this means that the Sprinter has a low first-gear ratio which ensures that it can pull away dynamically. At high speeds, however, it is able to run at low revs and so benefit from fuel savings, low emissions and quiet operation. At the same time, the Sprinter can call on the appropriate gear for every driving situation with only small shifts in engine speed between the different ratios.

The favourable fuel consumption achieved with the BlueEFFICIENCY package is particularly impressive: for Sprinter models with a permissible gross vehicle weight of 3.5 tonnes and a four-cylinder diesel engine, the combined consumption (depending on the model variant and axle ratio) is as low as 7.6 litres per 100 km.

BlueEFFICIENCY package reduces fuel consumption and emissions

Every Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is, of course, designed to use fuel sparingly. All the diesel models have a battery management system while both the engine and transmission are designed for low fuel consumption and low emissions.

The already favourable fuel consumption of the Sprinter equipped with a van manual transmission can be reduced by about another 0.5 litres per 100 km with the optional BlueEFFICIENCY package. This fuel saving also results in a reduction in CO2 emissions.

The BlueEFFICIENCY package comprises the ECO start/stop function, tyres with reduced rolling resistance, the ECO power steering pump, alternator management and an electrically controlled fuel pump. As a result, the combined fuel consumption for a typical Sprinter with a four-cylinder CDI diesel engine, a van manual transmission, a closed body and a permissible gross vehicle weight of 3.5 t is reduced to as little as 7.4 litres per 100 km.

Exemplary: fuel consumption of only 7 litres per 100 km with new, high axle ratio and van manual transmission

Another measure to reduce fuel consumption and emissions is a new, higher, rear-axle ratio for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. This is available as special equipment for various vehicle variants. The ratio of i=3.692 reduces the engine speed by about six percent and so results in an outstanding combined fuel consumption figure as low as 7 litres per 100 km with correspondingly lower CO2 emissions.

Mercedes-Benz Citan Latest Spy Photos and Renderings

The Citan will be offered as a panel van, a crewbus, a mixed-use vehicle, and will be available in a variety of lengths & weights

The Citan will be launched on the market in fall 2012 and thanks to TheophilusChin and WorldCarFans, we have very credible renderings and the latest spy photos.

The Citan has come about thanks to the German, French and Japanese global car alliance between Daimler and Renault Nissan that was announced last year.  Mercedes-Benz is planing to introduce this model as their smallest commercial vehicle to be positioned below the Vito/Viano van.

Earlier this year, Mercedes showed us renderings of the new Citan, essentially a rebadged Renault Kangoo light commercial vehicle, as well as revealing its name at the Mercedes-Benz Design Center in Sindelfingen during a symposium on brand competence and city logistics.

The name Citan is a combination of the words “city” and “titan,” thus making it clear that the vehicle is a first-rate specialist for city logistics — one that was specifically developed to meet the tough challenges faced in day-to-day operations.. The Mercedes-Benz Citan is the little brother to the Vario (6.0 to 8.2 tons), Sprinter (3.0 to 5.0 tons) and Vito (2.77 to 3.2 tons) models.

The new urban delivery van will be offered as a panel van, a crewbus, a mixed-use vehicle, and will also be available in a variety of lengths and weights.

The front end design featuring a modified radiator grille and a distinctive bumper with integrated LED daytime driving lights provides a subtle yet effective initial indication of the class embodied by this exclusive Viano. The new “magno allanite grey” paintwork featuring a satin finish plays its part in defining the vehicle’s special appearance. An alternative new metallic paint finish will also be available to customers from the start-up of production.

19-inch light-alloy wheels with two-tone paintwork and tyres in 245/45 R 19 emphasize the dynamic character of the Viano PEARL Limited Edition. The vehicle’s equally elegant character is underlined by shoulder line trim strips. The exterior can be further refined with the optional roof rails in the contrasting dark colour “mountain grey”.

Luxurious interior: high-quality real wood, fine nappa leather and trim elements in brushed aluminium

Entrance steps with walnut wood strips and illuminated brand lettering welcome passengers aboard. The rear boasts a real walnut floor finished in a warm walnut stain. Despite its protective seal, the material presents an open-pored and natural appearance. The side trim panels in the rear and the cockpit are also in walnut. Roof liner and window pillars feature high-quality DINAMICA fabric.

The front seats and the four individual seats in the rear are upholstered in finest two-tone nappa leather in seashell grey and grey beige. Contrasting stitching adds an attractive highlight, as do the trim strips in brushed aluminium, whose colour is designed to complement the two nappa leather variants. Subtle, dimmable ambient lighting behind the aluminium trim strips underscores the sedate atmosphere reminiscent of a stylish yacht.

Impressive dimming effect with electrochromatic glass

Passengers are able to control the degree of privacy which they wish to enjoy on board the Viano PEARL Limited Edition, thanks to MAGIC SKY CONTROL, featuring electrochromatic glass for the rear side windows which can be darkened at the touch of a button. The glazing can be switched directly from light to dark or dimmed in ten successive stages. This effect is made possible by liquid crystals in the double glazing which adjust their orientation according to the applied voltage, thereby altering the degree of transparency.

Specially tailored sound system from Bang & Olufsen

A “BeoSound Viano” sound system from Bang & Olufsen, produced and tuned specifically for the Viano PEARL Limited Edition, provides for superior on-board audio quality. The system comprises an amplifier with a total output of 1320 W, together with 18 high-end loudspeakers and four illuminated tweeter lenses distributed throughout the interior.

A W-LAN hotspot keeps the vehicle connected for entertainment or work purposes while on the road. Up to four terminals can be connected simultaneously to the internet.

Limited edition based on the Viano VISION PEARL showcar

The Viano PEARL CDI 3.0 Blue EFFICIENCY Limited Edition is powered by a V6 diesel engine rated at 165 kW (224 hp) which combines superior performance with restrained fuel consumption. Alternatively, the new top Viano model is also available as a 3.5 variant with a V6 petrol engine rated at 190 kW (258 hp). Both engine variants come with an automatic transmission.

The new flagship for the Mercedes-Benz Viano originates from the impressive Viano VISION PEARL show car at the last Frankfurt International Motor Show. The highly positive response to the show car prompted Mercedes-Benz Vans to take it as the basis for development of the new series-production model. The Mercedes-Benz Limited Edition Viano PEARL will be premiered at the Geneva Motor Show from 6 to 18 March. It will retail at € 99,000 net. The Viano PEARL Limited Edition will be available for ordering from the spring. The initial vehicles will be delivered to customers in the summer of 2012.

BlueEFFICIENCY Package Available for Mercedes-Benz Vito and Viano in September

new generator management system will help to reduce fuel consumption in the Mercedes-Benz Vito and Viano

Next month, an enhanced BlueEFFICIENCY package will be introduced.  A new generator management system will help to reduce fuel consumption in the Mercedes-Benz Vito and Viano in September 2011.

Effective new feature

During braking, the new generator management system converts part of the kinetic energy produced into electric energy, which is then stored in the battery. Feeding this additional energy into the system means that the alternator can be restricted under certain operating conditions, as it is during acceleration, so reducing the strain on the combustion engine.

The intelligent alternator works independently and, as far as the driver is concerned, imperceptibly. The power electronics increase the alternator voltage as needed to ensure fast recharging of the battery. The technical term used here is recuperation, a process that uses kinetic energy that would otherwise dissipate into the atmosphere as heat given off from the wheel brakes.

BlueEFFICIENCY, and thus also the new generator management system, is part of the standard specification for the Viano, the Vito crewbus and for every Vito model with passenger car type approval.

Into the future with BlueEFFICIENCY

BlueEFFICIENCY was developed by Mercedes-Benz as part of its efforts to shape the future of mobility in a responsible and sustainable manner. The term encompasses a series of intelligent and innovative technologies that work together in such a way as to give noticeable reductions in fuel consumption and pollutant emissions. The scope of the efficiency package includes, amongst other elements: an economical 4-cylinder CDI diesel engine in two output variants, a state-of-the-art V6 CDI diesel engine (with automatic transmission), consumption-optimised ECO Gear 6-speed manual transmission and further fuel economy measures, depending on the model.

Mercedes-Benz Viano Vision Pearl To Debut at International Motor Show – Video Update

The design concept is takes its inspiration from that of modern sporting yachts, with the theme of travel as an experience

With the Viano Vision Pearl showcar, which will be presented at this year’s International Motor Show in September, Mercedes-Benz demonstrates what is possible in the van sector. A full leather interior in white/grey, wood floor, brushed aluminium trim, chromatically tinting windows and the Bang & Olufsen high-end sound system “BeoSound Viano” make a journey in the Viano Vision Pearl a memorable experience for up to six occupants.

The design concept is takes its inspiration from that of modern sporting yachts, with the theme of travel as an experience. The onboard W-LAN connectivity caters for the needs of modern, mobile individuals. For ther exterior design, Mercedes-Benz has for the first time in the van sector used the paint finish “magno pearl grey”, a matt, pebble-grey colour. The stylistically revised front end of the Viano with its integrated LED daytime running lamps gives the van a more sporty, powerful appearance.

The way is the goal: driving experience meeting the highest expectations

Mobility is nowadays more experience-oriented. Most people no longer travel somewhere just to relax and enjoy themselves. Car or motorcycle tours, cruises, sailing trips or trek king tours – the travelling time itself becomes part of the experience. Mercedes-Benz reflects this trend with the Viano Vision Pearl. “We want to show what can be done with the Viano. The Viano Vision Pearl is not merely a functional van, but also a stylishly designed living space,” says Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans. “We have created a vehicle which combines generous spaciousness with an impressive design. Anybody who attaches importance to stress-free and at the same time stylish travel will find that the Viano Vision Pearl is the ideal companion. The interior design and technical features make the Viano Vision Pearl the S-Class among vans.”

Generous spaciousness combined with impressive interior design

The interior of the Viano Vision Pearl is not so much a functional space for passenger transport, but rather a living space.

The name Vision Pearl emphasises both the design concept and the repositioning of the Viano: the Viano of the future is the perfect travelling companion, and in this version it conveys a modern, maritime theme.

Impressive listening experience with Bang & Olufsen “BeoSound Viano” high-end sound system

The Viano Vision Pearl is rounded off by the Bang & Olufsen sound system. Mercedes-Benz has worked together with this world-renowned manufacturer of audio systems since 2009, and integrates the high-end sound systems into passenger cars such as the S-Class.

Thanks to the very high output of 1320 watts (the S-Class has 1200 watts) and 18 integrated, specially hand-built loudspeakers, the vehicle occupants are treated to an outstanding listening experience.

The Viano Vision Pearl is stylishly discreet where the outside world is concerned: as the loudspeakers are located in their own housings, very little sound volume escapes to the outside.

The new Mercedes-Benz Vito Shuttle: comfortable, spacious and professional

Whether as a hotel courtesy car, airport shuttle or large-capacity taxi – the Vito Shuttle combines extensive comfort features with generous spaciousness and a high level of practicality. This makes it ideally suitable for professional passenger transport over short or long distances.

Comfortable atmosphere, individual-look passenger seats

Elegant light-alloy wheels, bumpers and rub strips painted in the vehicle colour – the Vito Shuttle already makes its enhanced level of comfort obvious at first sight. The passenger compartment is decidedly spacious for the comfort of its occupants. In the rear the Vito Shuttle has a two-seater bench in the first row and a three-seater bench in the second row as standard. All the seats are designed as individual seats with an adjustable backrest, and when folded down the backrests serve as tables. Alternatively the second row can also be fitted with a three-seater bench. The rear seats are equipped with three-point seat belts, Isofix child seat anchorages and luxury head restraints.

Fully-panelled side walls and roof plus carpet flooring create a homely and pleasant atmosphere in the passenger compartment. Luggage can be stowed in the generous space behind the second seat row. To increase luggage space even further, the second seat row can be fully folded down. Moreover, passengers in the Mercedes-Benz Vito Shuttle also benefit from the newly developed comfort suspension of the Vito.

Air conditioner and air recirculation with tunnel mode as standard

The driver and co-driver also enjoy superior surroundings in the Vito Shuttle, with multiply adjustable luxury seats as standard. The cockpit materials with Softtouch surfaces are pleasant to the touch, while the silver-coloured “Silverstone” decor strip emphasises the dignified overall impression. The standard “TEMPMATIC” air conditioner automatically maintains the set temperature. A recirculated air switch with an additional “tunnel mode” automatically closes any open windows and glass sunroofs (if fitted) when operated. Temperature control in the passenger compartment is via a warm/cool air duct.

The Mercedes-Benz Vito Shuttle is available in three lengths – “compact”, “long” and “extra-long”. Prices start at € 30,180 (list price excl. VAT).

The new Vito Crew: economical, functional and versatile

The Vito Crew is the vehicle of choice when it comes to outstanding economy and versatility. This robustly equipped variant of the Vito has all the positive attributes of the Vito for transporting passengers, luggage and materials. It is right in its element in the construction sector, in cleaning companies or in installation work.

Functional, hard-wearing appointments

With its high level of practicality, the Vito Crew is predestined for applications where robustness, toughness and versatility are required. Featuring the cockpit of the panel van and a hard-wearing wood floor in the passenger compartment, it is both functional and easy to clean. Passengers in the rear are seated on two 3-seater benches. Behind them there is plenty of space for luggage, materials or tools. Lashing points are provided in the roof frame to secure cargo.

The Vito Crew knows no compromises when it comes to safety features. The electronic stability programme ADAPTIVE ESP with all functions from anti-lock braking (ABS) and acceleration skid control (ASR) to trailer stabilisation in conjunction with a trailer coupling is on board as a matter of course, as are front airbags for the driver and co-driver.

Special equipment enhances its capabilities

The number of available special equipment items is limited in keeping with the Vito Crew’s typical operating profile. A trailer coupling, twin co-driver seat and all-weather tyres underline the practicality of this model. A spare wheel instead of the breakdown set is recommended if operations are frequently off the beaten track, for example on construction sites. A radio, temperature-controlled air conditioner, auxiliary heat exchanger in the passenger compartment and convenience opening/closing with infrared remote control increase the level of comfort.

The Mercedes-Benz Vito Crew is available in two lengths – “compact” and “long”. Prices start at € 21,290 (list price excl. VAT).

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Vans by Brilliant Transportation

Brilliant Transportation offers Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans that are specially equipped and chauffeur-driven

For the family, the new Sprinter from Brilliant Transportation is the perfect mode of transportation for cross country trips. For those of you without children, the upgraded Sprinter also makes for a great office on wheels when you have a long distance commute and a chauffeur to get you there.

Richard Fertig started Brilliant Transportation only 13 months ago with a small fleet of specially-equipped Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans, and now the fast-growing company operates chauffeur-driven Sprinter-based Brilliant Vans and Mini Buses up and down the East Coast as well as in the Los Angeles area. Fertig says a large part of Brilliant’s success is due to the unusual design of their Sprinter van interiors, which feature a clean aesthetic with neutral colors and include rich hardwood floors, oversize leather seats, refrigerators, stowaway desks and built-in cabinets.

The tastefully integrated technology in the Brilliant Van includes a premium eight-speaker audio system, two 32-inch flat-screen TVs with satellite-based Direct TV and wireless headphones. In particular, business travelers appreciate its 3G Wi-Fi capability, color printers and a hands-free conference call system.

Fertig, Brilliant’s Founder and President, says, “Our versatile Sprinter vans appeal to corporate management, entertainers and well-to-do families who want to reclaim that dead in-transit time and who appreciate the size, height and overall comfort of a large van. Most NBA basketball players can stand up inside with room to spare. Additionally, our drivers are impressed with the Sprinter’s quality, reliability and especially the fuel economy of its proven clean-diesel power. Getting 20 miles per gallon in a vehicle of this size is phenomenal, which gives us a range of about 400 miles – our clients usually need to stop before we do.”

Addressing the “Are We There Yet?” Syndrome

Whether it’s helping with childrens’ homework, working out a complex business deal or eating a meal together, families and corporate travelers alike appreciate the comfort, convenience and productivity of Brilliant’s Sprinter vans. They welcome the privacy and lack of interruption that’s increasingly rare in today’s hectic work and family life.

Fertig says, “We’re introducing a new mode of travel we call Private Motoring¨ that often replaces air and rail transport. Although a number of our clients didn’t realize at first that Mercedes-Benz makes large vans, they know and love Mercedes, which makes our chauffeur-driven Brilliant Vans a natural extension of the way they choose to travel. Our New York-based Sprinters offer a distinct environment for business trips to Boston and DC, social events in Manhattan such as Lincoln Center or family weekends to the Hamptons and the Vermont ski country. With a similar range of use, our just-opened L.A. operation makes frequent trips to Las Vegas, Santa Barbara and San Diego.”

It’s Brilliant for the Bottom Line

Clients ask specifically for the Mercedes-Benz vans, and the comfort, convenience and privacy of Brilliant Vans has helped produce 100 percent repeat business. In addition, the impressive fuel economy and reliability of their Sprinters mean relatively low operating costs for Brilliant Transportation. In response to client requests for short, around-town transportation, Fertig added Brilliant Mini Buses based-on the 11-passenger Sprinter Passenger van. The company operates five Brilliant Vans and two Mini Buses based in New York City, with three Brilliant Vans and one Mini Bus in L.A.

Performers on tour, athletes and even royalty enjoy Brilliant’s Sprinter vans. Recently the entire board of directors for one of the top 50 global corporations spent four days together, touring their regional network of sales offices and warehouses utilizing Brilliant’s entire fleet of Brilliant Vans and holding a series of mobile meetings en route.

Mercedes-Benz Viano Avantgarde Edition 125 Overview

The new Mercedes-Benz Viano Avantgarde Edition 125 embodies these three terms like no other large-capacity vehicle

The new Mercedes-Benz Viano Avantgarde Edition 125 embodies three terms like no other large-capacity vehicle, dynamism, comfort and sportiness. It combines an unmistakeable exterior style with select equipment and appointments as well as a dynamic drive system, making it the top model in its class. The Edition 125 Viano Avantgarde represents the perfect blend of MPV, saloon and sports car.

With its extrovert appearance the avant-garde vehicle in its class

The look of the Viano Avantgarde’s Edition 125 is certainly nothing for wallflowers; it symbolises the avant-garde in its class. It is shod in exquisite 16-spoke high-sheen 8J x 19 light-alloy wheels, whilst the high-gloss chromed exterior mirror housings plus side skirts and chrome trim on the front bumper and chromed rear trim on the tailgate highlight the special styling. The model is available in the metallic paintwork variants obsidian black or brilliant silver.

Selected equipment and appointments, sporty ambience

The stylish look continues in the interior: the driver and front passenger will feel at home on seats that are as comfortable as they are sporty, featuring the finest leather cover with a piping design, plus increased lateral support. Customers can choose from “Lugano” leather or the new exclusive “Twin DINAMICA” microfibre surface. The cockpit is equally impressive, with its white scale illumination for the instruments, and sports pedals in brushed stainless steel with rubber studs. The decorative strips have a black or brown burr-walnut look. There are four individual seats for the passengers in the rear and these also feature leather covers with a piping design, and are both stylish and comfortable. These seats, too, boast special padding with increased lateral support. The inserts in the side trim panels are also in leather, whilst the decorative strips sport a burr-walnut look. The individual seats mounted on rails can be moved in 25-mm steps and include integral three-point seat belts, height-adjustable head restraints and adjustable armrests.

Dynamic V6 engines, specially tuned sports suspension

The dynamic drive system featuring V6 engines from Mercedes-Benz is the perfect match for the Viano Avantgarde Edition 125’s sporty appearance. The units are unique in this vehicle class: the V6 CDI 3.0 with an output of 165 kW (224 hp) and its extraordinary traction of 440 Nm combines power with consideration for the environment. BlueEFFICIENCY technology reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions to a surprisingly low level, with fuel consumption in accordance with the NEDC amounting to a mere 8.5-8.6 l/100 km – a very respectable figure in view of the vehicle size and performance. The V6 petrol engine which is available as an alternative has a displacement of 3.5 l and achieves 190 kW (258 hp), blending its torquey temperament with extremely smooth running characteristics.

Performance reaches a unique level in both variants. The V6 CDI 3.0 accelerates to 100 km/h in only 9.1 s and achieves a top speed of 201 km/h. For the V6 3.5 the figures are 10.4 s and 217 km/h.

Power transmission to the rear axle is via an automatic transmission. The Viano was already characterised by its high degree of handling safety and comfortable suspension, and it has now been particularly sportily tuned especially for the Edition 125 of its Avantgarde model, meeting the most discerning of standards when it comes to driving dynamics.

The Edition 125 of the Mercedes-Benz Viano Avantgarde is available from the spring in two different lengths: “compact” and “long”.

Mercedes-Benz Vito E-Cell Zero Emission Van Hits the Spanish Streets

Mercedes-Benz Vito E-CELL in addition to Berlin and Stuttgart is now also on the road in Spain’s Basque Country

Yet another premiere is being celebrated by the Mercedes-Benz Vito E-CELL.  Hitting the streets outside of Germany is the first van with an electromotive drive system to be produced by a car manufacturer ex factory. As of today the first five vehicles are out and about on Spanish streets. The vehicles were handed over to the customer during a special ceremony at the Mercedes-Benz production location for the

Vito E-CELL in Vitoria. In the presence of Basque Prime Minister López, the Head of Production for Mercedes-Benz Vans, Dr Heinrich Weiss and Jose Luis Lopez-Schummer Trevino, President of Mercedes-Benz Spain, presented the five Mercedes-Benz Vito E-CELL vehicles to Augustine Markaide, President of the supermarket chain Eroski. “The Vito E-CELL, which is now fully integrated in our series production, represents a completely new phenomenon. As far as process management is concerned, all the hurdles were overcome in record time!”, commented Dr Heinrich Weiss as the official hand-over of the keys took place.

Emission-free vans are becoming increasingly widespread in everyday road traffic

Having been put to use so successfully in the conurbations of Berlin and Stuttgart, the Vito E-CELL is now set to prove its suitability for everyday applications in Spain. Thanks to the Vito E-CELL, electromotively driven – and thus locally zero-emission, not to mention virtually silent – vans are now a reality in the Basque Country’s streetscape. So the Basque Country is not just the production location for these electromotive vehicles – it is also their area of operation. Further customers in major European cities will be taking delivery of their Vito E-CELL vehicles over the coming months.

Vito E-CELL: full-function van for everyday operations

The Vito E-CELL is not an experimental vehicle – it is a full-function van for day-to-day applications. It is the first van of its kind to roll off the series-production line, just like any other Vito. In close consultation with its customers, Mercedes-Benz has implemented the prerequisites for an electromotively driven van: with a payload of around 900 kilograms plus a load compartment with no restrictions on use whatsoever the Vito E-CELL assumes all the usual transportation duties of any vehicle in its class.

Up-to-the-minute powertrain engineering, powerful lithium-ion batteries

The Vito E-CELL’s batteries are stored in a space-saving manner beneath the load-compartment floor. They are state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries which are particularly powerful and have a high current capacity. They have an overall capacity of 36 kWh, sufficient for a range of some 130 kilometres. This means that the Vito E-CELL meets the average customer requirements for vans – around 50 to 80 kilometres per day – and still has a generous reserve.

The Vito E-CELL’s electric motor has an output of 60 kW and a torque of 280 Nm. As the full torque is available right from the start in the case of electric motors, the Vito E-CELL boasts a dynamic performance at the same high level as the latest diesel engines. Taking into consideration the Vito E-CELL’s usual area of operation and to facilitate the highest battery range possible, the van’s top speed is limited to 80 km/h.

Following on from the small series of 100 Mercedes-Benz Vito E-CELL vehicles which are now out and about in Berlin und Stuttgart, this ceremonial hand-over officially marks the start of the next series – encompassing over 2000 units.
