2019 Mercedes-Benz V-Class: Léa & Vincent’s Story

We follow Léa and Vincent to their favourite spot on the almost endless beach

The crashing of the waves.

The sun hangs low in the sky, bathing the landscape in warm sunshine. We are driving along the coast in the sporty V-Class. The sea crashes into the land. Vincent opens a window. We can hardly take our eyes off the sea. Vincent parks the MPV and we all get out. He walks over to the separate rear window opening and gets out his and Léa’s surfboards. Without further ado, he shifts the seats so we all have enough room to get changed. Meanwhile, the sea is getting increasingly restless. Huge waves tumble over one another whilst its deafening roar drowns out all other sounds. For a while, the crashing of the waves is all you can hear before you eventually get used to it.A lifetime by the sea.

We follow Léa and Vincent to their favourite spot on the almost endless beach. The couple walk in front of us, carrying their boards under their arms. Few words are spoken. Practically silent, they focus their attention on the water and the massive waves. The couple stroll across the sand with a confidence that comes from a lifetime spent by the sea. Léa tells us that she discovered her passion for water sports early on, beginning to surf in her early teens. She and her surfboard have been practically inseparable ever since, she jokes, her large eyes twinkling.

Making hard choices.

Today, she is a professional surfer who travels all across the world. She rides waves at the most famous beaches and has won numerous competitions – basically living the dream as many surfers would see it. However, the dream job has not come without making hard choices.

Léa used to be a nurse. “I liked my job,” she says, pensively, when the subject comes up, staring off into the distance. She loved hospital work – taking care of and helping people. To us, she seems the right type of person for that kind of work too, because she not only exudes warmth, but also has a smile that immediately makes you forget your problems.

A feeling of total freedom.

Then Léa looks over at Vincent, who shyly smiles at us in turn. He stays silent whilst Léa’s eyes seem even brighter. They met each other through surfing and became a couple soon after. Vincent doesn’t have a standard workday either, as we typically understand it. He regards himself as an Arctic explorer.

His love is the mountains and the ice. He goes on forest hikes, climbs mountains and enjoys spending time in the Northern Hemisphere. He’s always been fascinated by the huge feeling of freedom you get from simply placing one foot in front of the other. When everything is still, cold, it’s a feeling of total freedom.

Summer, surfing, smiling.

For Vincent, to have to sit at home and not be in nature would be a nightmare. He continues to watch the sea restlessly. The waves are getting bigger and bigger. Then the moment comes. He looks at us with the eyes of an excited child. He and Léa grab their surfboards and run off into the water. They paddle out calmly, disappearing momentarily from our gaze. But soon they reappear, standing on their boards on top of a wave.

After a while they return, dripping with water. They look at each other with beaming faces and take a brief time out by falling onto the warm sand. The sun gets lower and lower in the sky, disappearing behind the horizon with surprising speed, and bringing a bright summer’s day to a close.

Do what you love!

But then, they explain to us, life got really complicated. Léa loves the sea and surfing, whilst Vincent prefers hiking in the mountains. But they also both have jobs that they like doing. So the challenge was to combine everything. Things worked for a while, but then they realized that they were spending lots of precious time making plans, instead of spending it with each other and doing what they loved.

Choosing love and passion.

There came a point when they had to make a choice. Give up their passion, or put the relationship on ice? Neither option was right for them, so they decided to quit their jobs and devote themselves entirely to their love of nature and their relationship.

We follow them back to the V-Class. Vincent sits in the driver’s seat with Léa beside him, whilst we take up the spacious rear bench seats, enjoying the view. Vincent calmly takes the road back, turns the music up and gives his girlfriend a loving look.

The smell of pure nature.

The next day, we’re back sitting in the spacious car; only this time our destination is the woods rather than the beach. Everything is green, with bushes and trees stretching as far as the eye can see, whilst light shines through the vehicle’s huge windows. We drive through unspoilt nature, enjoying a magnificent panoramic view. Vincent parks the MPV and retrieves his jacket through the separate rear window opening and we set off. You can practically smell how pure nature is here. The air is fresh and cool. A light mist still hangs over the landscape, leaving the air feeling slightly moist.

A pitch for freedom.

The pair walk closely side by side. It’s not just shared feelings that tie them together but something far bigger: a drive for freedom, a longing to be independent. To start with, they were understandably nervous when they quit their jobs. But it was the right decision, they explain – a step towards a shared future, a pitch for freedom together.

Sometimes it seems like you have it all, yet you still have to make tough decisions. But every step into the unknown, bold decision, or moment of resolve is made worth it by the feeling you get afterwards. Just as Léa and Vincent have proved to us.

You’ll Never Believe What Movie Mercedes-Benz is Starring In

Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the other Peanuts embark on a journey in their Mercedes-Benz V-Class

The only thing greater than their new vehicle is their friendship: From now on Charlie Brown and Snoopy will be travelling in a Mercedes-Benz V-Class. Mercedes-Benz Vans is taking on the co-promotion of “The Peanuts Movie”, the popular comic characters’ first 3D film to hit cinemas, and is accompanying the premiere with a 360-degree marketing campaign in Europe.

“We are delighted to accompany the new Peanuts movie with our V-Class. We believe the V-Class perfectly matches this entertaining film for young and old alike. Especially families value the high level of safety as well as the comfortable spaciousness combined with dynamic design”, says Nicolai Berger, Head of Marketing Communication and Product Information Mercedes-Benz Vans.
Co-promotional activities in 15 European markets anticipate the movie.

The core element of the 360-degree marketing campaign is the elaborately produced V-Class commercial “Join Snoopy’s biggest ride”. In this commercial, Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the other Peanuts embark on a journey in their V-Class.

Another highlight is “The Peanuts Movie Tour” organised by the film production company 20th Century Fox. The tour will take place all over Germany, starting in Rostock and Luebeck on 27 November. A V-Class with exclusive Peanuts stickers will accompany the tour.

Mercedes-Benz Finds Success With the V-Class

One year after its market launch the new V-Class has already been delivered to more than 20 000 customers

One year after its market launch the new V-Class has already been delivered to more than 20 000 customers. As a result, the new V-Class has become a truly successful model among MPVs within just a very short period of time. In the first year since its market launch the V-Class has sold 25 percent more vehicles than the preceding model, the Viano, achieved in its first year of sales following its sales start in September 2003.

According to Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans: “We are proud of the V-Class. In the past year we have redefined the MPV segment with this vehicle; a fact which is also confirmed by our current sales figures. Meanwhile all of the variants have become available on the market for our customers to choose from, creating the best possible conditions to be continuously successful with the V-Class around the world.”

V-Class already available in 90 countries; further market launches to follow in Australia, South Africa and Japan

In the meantime the V-Class has become available virtually worldwide. The MPV is available in around 90 countries from Mercedes-Benz passenger car and commercial vehicle dealerships, also including the right-hand drive market Great Britain. With market launches in Australia, South Africa and Japan to follow, the V-Class will expand its presence into further right-hand-drive markets in 2015.

A Mercedes to meet a host of requirements: the MPV produced at Vitoria in Spain

The V-Class is the most spacious member of the Mercedes-Benz passenger car family. It provides room for up to eight people and can be individualised to suit a variety of tastes and requirements thanks to wide-ranging seating and loading configurations. As such it is not just a car for families but also the ideal vehicle for sporty adventurers and luxurious VIP or hotel shuttle operators. The V-Class combines exemplary functionality with the high-class appeal, comfort, efficient driving pleasure and safety which characterise all Mercedes vehicles.
More than 3000 staff produce the V-Class at the Mercedes-Benz Vitoria plant in the Spanish Basque Country, where it contributes to ensuring that production runs at full capacity. To guarantee that the site was optimally equipped for the production of the new model series, Daimler AG invested around 190 million euros in Vitoria. The focus of the investment was squarely on the modernisation and reorganisation of the body shop, paint shop and assembly line. Logistics at the site have also been optimised. After Düsseldorf, Vitoria is the second largest production plant run by Mercedes-Benz Vans.

Complete range: all variants of the V-Class now available

The MPV was already available in a host of variants from the moment of its market launch. In the interim period the complete range has become available for customers to choose from. The V-Class is available in two wheelbases and three vehicle lengths ranging from 4895 mm to 5370 mm. The cutting-edge 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with two-stage turbocharging comes in three output variants rated at 100, 120 or 140 kW. The top-of-the-range V 250 d boasts a powerful maximum torque of 440 Nm but consumes just six litres per 100 km. All three engine variants can also be ordered with the permanent all-wheel drive system 4MATIC.

V-Class optional extras in high demand: customers look for that certain “extra”

The MPV is available in the V-Class and V-Class AVANTGARDE design and equipment lines as well as with an Exterior Sports package and an Interior Design package. In its first year on the market around half of the vehicle’s buyers have opted for the high-quality AVANTGARDE design and equipment line. Customers can also choose from a host of optional extras which are proving extremely popular. Particular innovations in the segment which enjoy high demand include the separately opening rear window and the Active Parking Assist. The driver assistance package with COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and PRE-SAFE® rates highly among buyers too. Furthermore, the new MPV is equipped as standard with ATTENTION ASSIST, which can warn of inattention and fatigue, and, as sole vehicle in the segment, with Crosswind Assist.

IRONMAN World Champion, Sebastian Kienle Partners with Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz is the official 2015 automotive partner of the reigning IRONMAN World and European Champion, Sebastian Kienle

A new partnership has been launched in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim: Mercedes-Benz is the official 2015 automotive partner of the reigning IRONMAN World and European Champion, Sebastian Kienle. On 10 March, Nicolai Berger, Head of Marketing Communications and Product Information for Mercedes-Benz Vans, handed over a new V-Class on behalf of the company to this outstanding 30-year-old athlete from Mühlacker in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The new training and support vehicle will allow Kienle to prepare even better for his races. The triathlete has now joined an elite group of world champions – which already includes Germany’s men’s national football team and the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team with Lewis Hamilton – in driving a car with the three-pointed star.

“Flexibility, staying power and top-level performance – an exceptional triathlete like Sebastian Kienle and the Mercedes-Benz V-Class have much in common. It is factors like these that have made us keen to be involved in the sport of triathlon and we are delighted to be able to support the World and European Champion in defending his titles”, said Berger during the handover.

“The V-Class is the ideal training vehicle. Even though all my sports equipment, including my triathlon bike, takes up such a lot of space, there’s no need to compromise on comfort in the V-Class”, commented a delighted Sebastian Kienle on the partnership with Mercedes-Benz.

Kienle joins forces with Mercedes-Benz engineers for tests in the Untertürkheim wind tunnel

Following the handover ceremony, the triathlon world championship holder took the opportunity for a training session in the wind tunnel on the Mercedes-Benz site just outside Stuttgart. With the help of Volker Reichl, aerodynamics and acoustics expert for the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, Kienle was able to test the aerodynamic efficiency of his equipment with him on his triathlon bike. Such tests are all part of the 30-year-old’s meticulous preparation for the 2015 season.

Sebastian Kienle is considered one of the strongest cyclists on the international triathlon circuit. From 2010 until 2011 he held the world record for the 180-km cycle race in a long-distance triathlon. The 30-year-old professional athlete, who lines up for the Baden-Württemberg-based Tri-Team Heuchelberg, was voted Triathlete of the Year in 2012, 2013 and 2014 by the specialist magazine “triathlon”. Following two world championship titles in 2012 and 2013 in the IRONMAN 70.3, over half the distances, Kienle last year secured the double of both the World and European Championship titles in the IRONMAN long-distance triathlon.

Mercedes-Benz to remain official automotive partner of the IRONMAN European Tour for the 2015 season

Mercedes-Benz Vans is a committed partner to the sport of triathlon and will this year, once again, remain the official automotive partner of the IRONMAN European Tour. Along with more general support, the deal includes the provision of V-Class vehicles to the national organisers for support and shuttle services all year round and for all competitions. In addition to this the new Mercedes-Benz MPV will be accompanying the European competition series with wide-ranging communications activities and comprehensive branding along the competition routes plus vehicle displays and its own exhibition area at the IRONMAN Expo in every event location.

IRONMAN is the elite form of triathlon. The race is made up of a 3.9-kilometre swim, a 180-km cycle ride and a marathon run over 42 km. The three disciplines are raced back-to-back without a break.

Mercedes-Benz V-Class: performance pure

The new V-Class is the ideal partner for people who enjoy sports and leisure activities: It boasts maximum flexibility and performance with the highest possible levels of safety and efficient energy consumption. In addition, it blends the generous amount of space and the functionality of an MPV with the hallmark strengths of a Mercedes-Benz passenger car.
The interior allows a wide range of seating and loading configurations. With a few quick movements, it can be converted from a load compartment for several bicycles to a comfortable MPV for the whole family or for business partners. Top performance is ensured by the ultramodern 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with two-stage turbocharging. The top-of-the-range 140 kW (190 hp) engine in the V 250 BlueTEC boasts a mighty 440 Nm of peak torque while still only burning a frugal 6.0 litres every 100 km.

Untertürkheim wind tunnel used to optimise wind resistance

The wind tunnel at the Mercedes-Benz site in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim is used for testing the aerodynamics of all types of vehicle. The 9000 m³ of air contained within the 125 m tunnel, which is laid out as a ring, can be accelerated to as much as 250 km an hour – corresponding to a Category 4 hurricane. At the heart of the system is a nine-blade axial fan with a diameter of 8.5 metres and an output of 5000 kW.

Mercedes V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC Announced

Mercedes-Benz has announced plans to further expand the V-Class lineup with the introduction of the V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC at the Paris Motor Show.

Mercedes-Benz has announced plans to further expand the V-Class lineup with the  introduction of the V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC at the Paris Motor Show.

This will be the first V-Class with 4MATIC all-wheel drive, and will feature a 2.1-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 190 PS (140 kW) and 440 Nm (324 lb-ft) of torque in the the V 250 BlueTEC.

Detailed performance specifications have not been released but Mercedes confirmed the model will consume 6.7 L/100km (35.1 mpg US / 42.1 mpg UK) and have CO2 emissions of 177 g/km.

The V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC will go on sale in December and German pricing starts at €53,109.70 (including a 19% VAT).

The new V-Class with permanent all-wheel drive

The new V-Class with permanent all-wheel drive

V 250 BlueTEC with 4MATIC all-wheel drive available to order from December
The 4MATIC system, already proven in many Mercedes-Benz passenger car models, provides palpably more traction and driving stability in all driving conditions. Regardless of whether it’s on a pot-holed street, a muddy track or a snowy or icy road – the V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC copes effortlessly with every driving surface. The all-wheel drive also improves the way the vehicle pulls away and accelerates, particularly on poor surfaces or in bad weather.
The 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive system is based on the proven 4ETS Electronic Traction System working together with the Electronic Stability Program (ESP)®. 4ETS distributes power to the front and rear axle in a 45:55 ratio. If one or more wheels lose traction, 4ETS slows them down in a fraction of a second and automatically distributes power to the wheels with better roadholding. Conventional mechanical differential locks are therefore not needed. This technology, which is also deployed in Mercedes-Benz SUVs and off-road vehicles, saves on weight and at the same time increases driving safety and comfort.
A double-disc clutch is fitted to the central differential. This achieves a basic locking torque of approximately 50 Nm between the front and rear axle. The clutch pack is permanently preloaded. In the case of spinning wheels on one of the two axles, friction torque is transmitted to the axle spinning more slowly by relative movement of the discs. This variable torque shift improves traction and driving stability. The traction and stabilising effect of this pre-lock clutch are clearly noticeable, particularly in the case of low coefficients of friction between the tyres and the road surface.
4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive will initially be offered for the V-Class with the top-of-the-range V 250 BlueTEC engine variant, which generates an output of 140 kW (190 hp) and a powerful 440 Nm of torque. That means it can deliver great pulling power and agility – yet at the same time post commendably low consumption figures. The V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC requires a mere 6.7 l of fuel per 100 km (177 g CO2/km). And thanks to BlueTEC, it is also the first vehicle with permanent all-wheel drive in its segment to comply with the Euro 6 emissions standard. Power is transmitted by the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission. The transfer case for the all-wheel drive is integrated into the main transmission. The V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC with body length “Long” is available in Germany from EUR 53,109.70 incl. 19 percent VAT.
In addition to the top-of-the-range V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC model, other engine variants of the MPV will also be offered with all-wheel drive in the future.
Extremely efficient, exemplarily safe and superbly comfortable
With the V-Class, Mercedes-Benz is redefining the MPV. The car combines seating for up to eight persons and exemplary functionality with the typical strengths of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars – from perceived quality to comfort, efficient driving pleasure and safety. This makes the Mercedes among MPVs the perfect vehicle for all those who appreciate great spaciousness but do not want to sacrifice style and comfort.
The V-Class has been available with rear-wheel drive as standard since March 2014. There are three output levels to choose from: 100 kW (136 hp), 120 kW (163 hp) and 140 kW (190 hp). With fuel consumption from as little as 5.7 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 149 g/km, the 120 hp V 220 CDI is the outright leader in its segment.
The level of safety is just as exemplary. There are eleven driver assistance systems available. ATTENTION ASSIST and Crosswind Assist are on board as standard. Optional extras include the DISTRONIC PLUS adaptive cruise control system, together with COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, Traffic Sign Assist with the wrong-way warning function, the LED Intelligent Light System and Active Parking Assist, which makes parking an MPV as easy as parking a compact car. Most of the assistance systems are available for the first time in this vehicle class.
The V-Class features four rear seats as standard. A two-passenger bench seat, three-passenger bench seat or berth package are also available as options. All bench seats can be folded down and used as a second loading level. Items can also be loaded beneath them.
High-quality materials, a stylish colour scheme, extremely fine attention to detail and a design idiom that is both progressive and sensuous convey a perceived quality that stands out within the segment.
The feel-good atmosphere is complemented with the lowest noise level in the segment.
For convenient loading and unloading the V-Class is also available with a separately opening rear window. It can be opened and closed independently of the tailgate. This facilitates loading and unloading twice over: on the one hand, it allows a second loading level; on the other – particularly in tight parking spaces – there is no need to open the large tailgate. Another USP for the newV-Class: The optional EASY-PACK tail gate, which is controlled electrically and can be conveniently opened, closed and halted in any position.

Mercedes-Benz Supports Triathletes

In 2014 the Stuttgart-based automotive brand is supporting the German POWER HORSE Triathlon Team

In 2014 the Stuttgart-based automotive brand is supporting the German POWER HORSE Triathlon Team, one of the worldwide leading professional teams within half- and long-distance, as an official partner, providing a new V-Class as team vehicle. “The supreme discipline of endurance sports makes an ideal match for our new V-Class. In the case of the triathlon, it all comes down to versatility and resilience, and making efficient use of your power reserves. All these are qualities which feature in our new V-Class too,” explained Bernd Stegmann, Head of Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Vans, commenting on the new commitment to the sport at the handover of the newV-Class to the POWER HORSE Triathlon Team.

Comprehensive range of possible applications make the V-Class the ideal companion for triathletes

The five-man POWER HORSE Triathlon Team is delighted to be receiving the new V-Class as a training and competition vehicle, and in future will display the Mercedes-Benz star on their time trial helmets. Eight-times IRONMAN champion Timo Bracht is particularly excited by the comprehensive range of possible applications for the new MPV: “As a father with two children and a particularly active, sporty lifestyle, the new V-Class meets my requirements perfectly. In future it will be really convenient for me to take all of my sports equipment to competitions, or even head off on the spur of the moment with my wife, the children and their friends for a weekend excursion.”

Team colleague Jan Raphael, the current European IRONMAN champion, is equally impressed by the flexibility of the new V-Class: “The spacious interior will enable the entire team to travel together to training camps and competitions in the future – the amount of space available makes this perfectly possible.”
The athletes of the POWER HORSE Triathlon Team supported by Mercedes-Benz are considered the favourites to take top honours in a variety of half- and long-distance triathlon competitions in 2014. Last year the athletes already achieved a number of victories at both national and international triathlon competitions.
With the new V-Class, Mercedes-Benz will also be acting as the official automotive partner of the IRONMAN European Tour for the 2014 and 2015 season. By providing such extensive support to the most famous European long-distance triathlon series, the premium automotive brand is reinforcing its claim that the V-Class is designed to appeal to people in a number of key international sales markets who are sports enthusiasts and highly active in their leisure time.

About the V-Class – the Mercedes among MPVs

The new V-Class is the ideal partner for people who enjoy sports and leisure activities: It boasts maximum flexibility and performance with the highest possible levels of safety and efficient energy consumption. In addition, it blends the generous amount of space and the functionality of an MPV with the hallmark strengths of a Mercedes-Benz passenger car. This makes the new V-Class the Mercedes among MPVs.

The interior enables the widest range of seating and loading configurations to be used to meet life’s wide variety of everyday requirements. In a few minutes it can be converted from a luggage compartment for several bicycles to a comfortable MPV for the whole family or for business partners. And the V-Class offers an extraordinary comfort experience – including the quietest and highest-quality interior in the segment, the most modern control and display system plus the best road roar and tyre vibration characteristics thanks to the AGILITY CONTROL suspension with its new frequency-selective damping.
Top performance is ensured by the ultramodern 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with two-stage turbocharging. The V 250 BlueTEC top model develops 140 kW (190 hp) and with a maximum torque of 440 Newton metres effortlessly achieves the output level of the previous V6 turbodiesel. Yet at 6.0 l per 100 km it consumes up to 28 percent less fuel. In the acceleration phases it even reaches an impressive figure of 480 newton metres. The V 250 BlueTEC sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9.1 seconds. A total of eleven driver assistance systems also ensure exemplary safety.

The new V-Class. Large as Life.

"The new V-Class. Large as Life." in a humorous manner, the integrated campaign playfully addresses the widespread cliché of the functionally boring family car

Mercedes-Benz starts the launch campaign for its newly developed MPV under the banner “The new V-Class. Large as Life.” in a humorous manner, the integrated campaign playfully addresses the widespread cliché of the functionally boring family car, and presents the new V-Class as a trendsetter for a new world of spacious automotive experiences. The campaign focuses on print advertisements, a TV spot, an online video clip and an interactive web special. These perfectly present the key message: The V-Class is a genuine Mercedes-Benz premium passenger car.

“The campaign is just as progressive and emotional as the new V-Class, and impressively reflects what the Mercedes among MPVs stands for: impassioned design with high perceived value, outstanding versatility and functionality, dynamic performance and exemplary safety,” says Nicolai Berger, Head of Marketing Communication & Product-Information Mercedes-Benz Vans. “The V-Class underlines a stylish, comfortable and independent lifestyle. Thus the V-Class is the perfect vehicle for modern families, people who are active in recreation and sports, and operators of shuttle services. This versatility is the centre of the whole campaign and so we address different target groups in an emotional and individual way,” says Berger.

Emotional, target group specific print advertisements

The print advertisements dynamically present the V-Class in the urban environment. The vehicle is illuminated by inserted images showing appealing characteristic moments in the life experience of the different target groups – for example a father with his baby, a sports cyclist or a concert stage. The six different photo motifs are supplemented with an eye-catching, likewise target group specific text message such as “No father needs to drive a dad’s car. Discover a new dimension of passion.”, “The search engine for top performance. Discover a new dimension of spontaneity.”, or “Showffeur. Discover a new form of exclusivity.” The text messages address individual product features that particularly meet the expectations of the relevant target groups for an MPV – from a sporty driving experience and the variable seating concept to high-quality interior design. The advertisements will appear worldwide as 2/1 and 1/1 pagers in high-circulation general interest magazines, current affairs magazines, special-interest media and supra-regional daily newspapers.

TV spot and digital communication

All the other communication activities concentrate on families, the main target group for the new V-Class. The TV spot charmingly expresses the life experience of modern families which can already be seen on Youtube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGIrduxHkuA.While the soundtrack alludes to the loss of freedom which comes with the start of family life, the images with their happy atmosphere show the complete opposite. With its style and driving pleasure, the V-Class negates the image of the boring family car. The 30 and 45 second spot will be transmitted internationally on all TV stations with a long-range audience.

The roughly one and a half minute long online video clip “Inspired by parents”, is equally emotional and humorous. It can already be seen on Youtube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9-oMnkBhao. In a highly unusual way, and in brief episodes, it explains how the new V-Class came by its numerous assistance and safety systems. The impression is as if Mercedes-Benz took its inspiration from the special capabilities of parents. Because mothers and fathers see things without being physically present, and they have premonitions that protect their children from harm – just like e.g. the 360°- camera, Blind Spot Assist or COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST in the new V-Class.

The digital communication is complemented by a web special which was already launched in March with a teaser at www.new-v-class.com, and is now being gradually expanded with further content and interactive elements. The highlight of the web special will be an interactive presentation of the V-Class as a full-screen video experience. The user accompanies a father and son during their professional and private tours of discovery with the V-Class. The vehicle is presented in its entirety, and outstanding product features are highlighted by a multimedia focus. The web special will be online in the European markets and is flanked by prerolls, banners and a variety of social media activities.

The campaign was developed by the creative agency Lukas Lindemann Rosinski. SYZYGY Germany is responsible for the web special. The sequences in the TV spot and online video clip were produced by element e and directed by Felipe Ascacibar. The photographer for the print advertisements was Anke Luckmann.

A Look at the All-New Mercedes-Benz V-Class

With the V-Class Mercedes-Benz is redefining the MPV

With the V-Class Mercedes-Benz is redefining the MPV. As the youngest and largest member of the passenger car family from Stuttgart, it sets new benchmarks in its segment with its design and a host of innovations. The new V-Class combines room for up to eight people and exemplary functionality with the high-class appeal, comfort, efficient driving pleasure and safety that distinguish automobiles bearing the three-pointed star. This makes the Mercedes among MPVs the perfect vehicle for everyone who appreciates great spaciousness but does not want to sacrifice style and comfort.

Mercedes-Benz V-Class

Mercedes-Benz V-Class

Whether off on a shopping spree or travelling with the whole family, heading out for a mountain bike holiday with friends in the Alps or driving prominent guests to a red carpet event – the new V-Class provides optimum flexibility when it comes to use of the interior and always cuts an elegant figure at the same time. With the two equipment lines V-Class and V-Class AVANTGARDE, an Exterior Sports package and an Interior Design package for each line, two wheelbases, three body lengths from 4895 to 5370 millimetres, three engines and also many optional extras, the new MPV can be individualised to suit any taste and requirement. As a result it meets a wide variety of customer needs and is just as attractive for families as it is for people who need a variable and spacious interior for their leisure and sports activities. In addition, it is ideally suited to use as a luxurious VIP or hotel shuttle.

“With the new V-Class we are expanding the Mercedes-Benz premium passenger car range with a saloon for up to eight people”, says Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars Division. “Functionality is a must for an MPV. Comfort and style are the icing on the cake. The new V-Class combines both in a way no other vehicle in this segment can offer.”

Emotional, dynamic appearance – size in a new guise

Even at first glance the V-Class is unmistakably a member of the Mercedes-Benz passenger car family and sets an emotional highlight in its segment. At the centre of the powerful front is the upright radiator grille with three-dimensional central star and the progressively designed headlamps, which for the first time in this segment offer all lighting functions in LED technology as an option. The sculptured V-shaped bonnet merges elegantly into the sporty chrome frame of the radiator grille and the headlamps. The lower air intakes and the radiator grille feature narrow louvres. In conjunction with the headlamps, which extend far into the wings, they emphasise the width of the vehicle and underscore the self-confident appearance of the new V-Class.

The clearly contoured side wall is structured by two elongated, taut lines. The interplay of concave and convex surfaces conveys a sculptural – and as such highly sensuous – character. Both lines smoothly continue the distinctive contour lines of the front bumper and rise slightly as they continue on towards the rear. The side view thus appears stretched, suggesting dynamism.

“The new V-Class demonstrates that an elegant and dynamic appearance is also possible in size XXL”, says Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans. “The V-Class is a versatile, multitalented vehicle which offers value, efficiency and safety at the highest level. As a result we are addressing a completely new customer group – among them those who are in need of a generous amount of space but never wanted to drive an MPV because style, a sense of well-being and also ride comfort have so far been lacking in this segment.”

Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive – exemplary safety

A high level of driving comfort and an exemplary standard of safety are ensured by a total of eleven innovative driver assistance systems. They are based on state-of-the-art radar, camera and ultrasound sensors, which were introduced in the new E-Class and S-Class under the name “Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive”. Standard equipment includes Crosswind Assist, which helps the driver to stabilise the V-Class in strong, gusting crosswinds, and ATTENTION ASSIST, which can warn of inattention and drowsiness. An available option is Active Parking Assist. It makes parking the new MPV as easy and convenient as parking a compact car.

Also optionally available are the 360° camera, DISTRONIC PLUS adaptive cruise control with COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, Traffic Sign Assist with wrong-way warning function, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist, the LED Intelligent Light System and Adaptive Highbeam Assist. Most of these assistance systems are available in this segment for the first time.

The PRE-SAFE® system, familiar from the passenger car models, is available as an optional extra to further enhance safety. When an accident threatens, it initiates protective measures to ensure that the belts and airbags offer optimum protection during a collision.

Top efficiency: six-cylinder performance with four-cylinder fuel consumption

At market launch the new V-Class comes to the starting line with the state-of-the-art 2.1-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine with two-stage turbocharging, which has already proven highly successful in many passenger car model series from the A-Class to the S-Class, and which has now been further enhanced specifically for the MPV. It is available in three power output levels: The V 200 CDI develops 100 kW (136 hp) and a maximum torque of 330 Newton metres. The V 220 CDI generates 120 kW (163 hp) and 380 Newton metres. This is an increase of 20 Newton metres in each case over the predecessor – but with fuel consumption down by around two litres. With fuel consumption of just 5.7 litres per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions of 149 grams per kilometre, the V 220 CDI occupies an absolutely leading position in the segment.

With a power output of 140 kW (190 hp) and powerful peak torque of 440 Newton metres, the top-of-the-line V 250 BlueTEC engine has as much pulling power and agility as the previous 3-litre V6 turbodiesel engine. In the acceleration phases, an additional 10 kW and 40 Newton metres are available (“over-torque”). As a result, the flagship model develops 150 kW and maximum torque of a full 480 Newton metres. The V 250 BlueTEC accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in an impressive 9.1 seconds. At the same time, the top model provides an extremely smooth ride and interior noise has been reduced significantly – among other things by means of comprehensive insulation.

With significantly reduced fuel consumption from as low as 6.0 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres (157 g CO2/km) the four-cylinder turbodiesel requires 28 percent less fuel than the six-cylinder while maintaining the same standard of performance. Thanks to BlueTEC, the top-of-the-range model is also the first vehicle in the segment to comply with the Euro 6 emissions standard. The V 250 BlueTEC is equipped as standard with the 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission with DIRECT SELECT lever and DIRECT SELECT shift paddles. The convenient automatic transmission is available as an optional extra for the V 200 CDI and V 220 CDI models.

New standard of agility and driving pleasure

To enhance personal driving pleasure, the V-Class is the only vehicle in its segment to offer the AGILITY SELECT function in conjunction with the automatic transmission. At the push of a button the driver can select from four driving modes: economical, comfortable, sporty and manual. Engine, accelerator and transmission response are then adapted accordingly.

Ground-breaking features in this category of vehicles also include the AGILITY CONTROL suspension with selective adjustment of the damping system to the road conditions and the latest generation of ADAPTIVE ESP®, featuring many assistance functions for optimum driving safety. The light and precise electromechanical power steering likewise contributes greatly to the well-balanced driving comfort in the new V-Class.

Leading the field in aerodynamics and noise comfort

Low drag is crucial to achieving outstanding efficiency. With a Cd figure of 0.31, the V-Class is the most aerodynamic vehicle in its segment. This outstanding figure is the result of intensive detailed improvement work – from modifications to the basic vehicle design to large areas of underbody panelling and aerodynamically optimised wheel arches and exterior mirrors. Other focuses of the aerodynamic development work were on reducing wind noise and keeping the windows and exterior mirrors largely free of soiling even in inclement weather – a major factor for perceptual safety.

The level of noise and perceptible vibrations has a major influence on the sense of wellbeing in an automobile. Experts use the term NVH for this: Noise Vibration Harshness. Throughout the development period, the engineers at Mercedes-Benz showed an almost forensic fervour in investigating every possible source of noise and vibrations, so as to eliminate these with specific measures. As a result, thanks to new component concepts and comprehensive insulation the V-Class offers its occupants the lowest noise level in the segment. The interior noise level has been almost halved compared to the preceding model.

Modern style and high-class appeal

The interior of the V-Class is a completely new MPV experience. And not only because it is pleasantly quiet. High-quality materials with a pleasant touch and feel and a harmonious colour concept, intricate details as well as a progressive and sensuous design idiom convey outstanding high-class appeal in the segment – and that hallmark “welcome home” feeling typical of Mercedes-Benz cars. Fine nappa leather is also available for the seats, steering wheel and shift lever. This inviting atmosphere is rounded off by subtle ambient lighting in three colours.

A particular eye-catcher is the dynamically styled two-part dashboard. The upper and lower sections are separated by a large, three-dimensional trim element that creates an impression of width and underscores the high-class appeal. The lower section is sculptural in design. This emphasises the generous sense of space while also exuding a tangible lightness. For the first time in this class, a leather-look cockpit upper section with lavishly finished topstitching is optionally available.

Other highlights include the free-standing central display, the multifunction steering wheel with 12 buttons and DIRECT SELECT lever with steering wheel shift paddles for automatic models, as well as the innovative touchpad, which allows all telematics functions to be operated by means of gestures or by entering characters in the same way as on a smartphone. The touchpad is available in conjunction with equipment starting from the Audio 20 CD or COMAND Online. In addition the V-Class features the new “Mercedes-Benz Touch” app. For the first time in a Mercedes-Benz, this enables the COMAND Online infotainment system to be controlled from any seat via smartphone. Together, the app and touchpad form the key to the most cutting-edge control and display concept in this vehicle class.

The latest generation of COMAND Online combines all audio, telephone and navigation functions and additionally offers an internet browser, the LINGUATRONIC voice control system and transmission of traffic data in real time. The optional Burmester® surround sound system with 16 high-performance loudspeakers, including a bass reflex loudspeaker, delivers the perfect listening experience. It provides exceptional surround sound, and in combination with COMAND Online allows technically supported front-to-rear voice amplification: where necessary to improve communication, a microphone in the overhead control panel transmits conversation between the driver and front passenger to the rear loudspeakers so that the passengers sitting further away can also hear them.

A new dimension in comfort

The V-Class also sets new standards in comfort and variability with a host of innovations. The Mercedes-Benz MPV is the only vehicle in the segment to offer optional 4-way lumbar support and active seat ventilation with reversing fans to ensure a consistent relative humidity at the contact area with the leather seat for driver and front passenger.

Also unique in this class of vehicles is the enhanced THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control system, which is available as an option in addition to the standard-fit TEMPMATIC system. It has various ventilation modes to offer individual climate control. The FOCUS, MEDIUM and DIFFUSE climate modes have distinct settings for air flow and distribution. In addition, the THERMOTRONIC system features automatic pre-entry climate control at the touch of a button on the vehicle key, an integral demisting sensor and distribution of cooled air to the driver and front passenger sides, the intensity of which is automatically controlled by the position of the sun. Equally unique is the tunnel detection feature with self-activating air recirculation. The climate control system uses the map information from the navigation system and the GPS location data to close the air recirculation flap automatically when the vehicle enters a tunnel, subsequently re-opening it when the vehicle emerges from the tunnel.

Numerous seating and loading configurations

The seating in the rear allows numerous configurations to meet any requirements. As standard, the MPV is equipped with four individual luxury seats with armrests in two seat rows. Thanks to improved technology and operating logic, they can be folded forward intuitively to afford fast and easy access to the rear. As an option, a folding table can be installed between the single seats.

As an alternative to the individual seats, a two-passenger bench seat with two-piece, individually folding backrest, or a three-passenger bench seat with two-piece seat cushion and three-piece backrest is available for both rear rows. The outer right-hand seat of the three-seater bench can be folded forward or taken out separately. The entire bench can be folded forward to create space for large items, such as sports equipment or newly purchased furniture. For overnight accommodation in the V-Class, the rearmost row can also be equipped with a three-passenger bench seat as a comfort berth. Drawers are located underneath the berth, which can also be used as a second loading level. Cargo can also be stowed under all other bench seats. Moreover, like the individual seats, all bench seats are fitted with integral three-point seat belts.

Thanks to the optimised seat rails with quick-release system, very little effort is required to move the individual seats and benches fore and aft or to position them as vis-à-vis seats. They can all be removed as well to create a loading area tailored to specific needs at any time.

Separately opening rear window and second loading level

For easy loading and unloading, the V-Class features another first in this segment in the shape of the separately opening rear windscreen attached to the upper tailgate frame. It can be opened and closed independently of the tailgate. This makes loading and unloading easier in two respects: on the one hand, it allows a second loading level; on the other – particularly in tight parking spaces – there is no need to open the large tailgate. The corresponding load-compartment organiser is easy to install and remove. It can bear up to 50 kilograms and has two recesses, each of which holds a removable and collapsible shopping basket. In the V-Class AVANTGARDE, the separately opening rear windscreen including load-compartment organiser is a standard feature.

Another USP for the new V-Class: the tailgate is optionally available as an EASY-PACK tailgate, with convenient power opening and closing that can be stopped in any position. As a result even lightly built people have no difficulty in closing the tailgate.

Standard equipment: extensive and with stylish details

The new Mercedes-Benz MPV occupies the leading position in its segment thanks to its sporty character and comfortable appointments. Even the basic V-Class version features a comprehensive scope of equipment as standard. It includes the Audio 20 USB with free-standing 7-inch central display, piano-lacquer-look trim, 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel with 12 buttons and sporty DIRECT SELECT selector lever with steering wheel shift paddles in the case of automatic transmission, a steering column adjustable for height and tilt, luxury front seats with thorax/pelvis sidebags, electric parking brake and active arrest for the rear sliding door.

The V-Class AVANTGARDE design and equipment line features additional highlights as standard, such as leather seats, a leather steering wheel, ambient lighting, wood-look trim (also in the rear), LED High Performance headlamps with Intelligent Light System, separately opening rear window with second loading level, an additional sliding door on the left, laminated glass windows for additional noise reduction, and the AGILITY CONTROL suspension with selective damping system for even better agility and ride comfort.

At market launch in late May 2014, the new V-Class will be available as a long-wheelbase model with a length of 5140 millimetres and a wheelbase of 3200 millimetres. It will be available to order from all authorised Mercedes-Benz dealers from 6 March 2014. The available models are the V 200 CDI from 42,900 euros, the V 220 CDI from 43,911 euros and the V 250 BlueTEC from 49,183 euros (prices in Germany, in each case incl. 19% VAT). As such, the attractive price positioning within the segment which already characterised the preceding models has been maintained – despite the new design, new technologies and significantly enhanced range of equipment. The compact version and the version with extra-long wheelbase will follow at a later date.

Exclusive model at launch: V-Class Edition 1

Like every new Mercedes-Benz passenger car model series, the V-Class will also start out with a limited Edition 1. The distinguishing features of the 140 kW (190 hp) special model with 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission include sports suspension or optionally AGILITY CONTROL suspension with selective damping system, 19-inch 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, tinted glass in the rear compartment, marron nappa leather seats, a leather-look dashboard with contrasting topstitching, and dark anthracite ebony wood-look trim. Ensuring utmost comfort are the active seat ventilation for driver and front passenger, THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control plus separate TEMPMATIC semi-automatic air conditioning in the rear, COMAND Online, the Burmester® surround sound system, electric sliding doors on the right and left, the electric EASY-PACK tailgate with separately opening rear window and the Parking package with 360° camera. COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist and the PRE-SAFE® system offer exemplary safety. The V-Class Edition 1 will be available in Germany from 67,378 euros incl. VAT.

All-New Mercedes-Benz V-Class Production Begins

The new V-Class combines the best of two worlds: the functionality of a van and the strengths of a Mercedes-Benz car

The first new V-Class rolled off the production line today at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Vitoria, Spain. The production start of the Mercedes among MPVs is another milestone in Mercedes-Benz Vans’ growth strategy and strengthens the second-largest van plant in the division’s global production network. The new V-Class combines the best of two worlds: the functionality of a van and the characteristic strengths of a Mercedes-Benz car. These strengths range from an emotive design and high-quality interior appointments to exemplary safety features and efficient driving pleasure. In these ways, Mercedes-Benz Vans is completely redefining the MPV segment.

Mercedes-Benz V-Class

Mercedes-Benz V-Class

“The new V-Class has many new features that are without parallel in this segment. They will allow us to address new customer groups. In particular, we will be able to reach customers who have previously preferred to buy a traditional car even though they actually need the space that an MPV offers,” said Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans, as the first series-produced V-Class was completed. This vehicle is primarily targeted at three groups of customers: families with two or more children, people who are very active in their leisure time and have large amounts of sports and outdoor equipment, and operators of luxury VIP or hotel shuttle buses.

Big investments strengthen the production plant

Daimler AG invested extensively in the Mercedes-Benz plant in Vitoria, Spain, to prepare the facility for the production of the new V-Class. The investment of around €190 million primarily covered the modernization and reorganization of the plant’s body shop, paint shop, and assembly units. The site’s logistics were also optimized. “Today is a very special day for our plant, and we are all very proud to manufacture the new V-Class here in Vitoria,” says Emilio Titos, Head of the Vitoria production plant. “All of the employees worked extremely hard to make this day happen and prepare themselves for the new production processes. This shows that we have a highly motivated and qualified team whose members are highly committed to their work. I would like to thank you very much for this achievement, and I hope that we are all very successful with the new V-Class.”

Mercedes-Benz V-Class Production

Mercedes-Benz V-Class Production

The approximately 600,000-square-meter Mercedes-Benz plant is the only automotive factory in the Basque region. With its approximately 3,100 employees, it is also one of the largest industrial enterprises in the area. This facility in northwestern Spain, which was built in the early 1950s, has been producing the Viano and the Vito van since 2003. From Vitoria, the vehicles are being exported globally and are sold in Europe, Asia, Russia and Africa. Around 75,000 vehicles roll off the production line each year.

About the new V-Class

The new V-Class sets new standards for its segment from both an aesthetic and a technological point of view. The styling makes the vehicle stand out from the crowd and is in line with Mercedes-Benz’ new car design idiom. In addition, the new V-Class is the only MPV to include a wide range of assistance systems that combine safety with comfort. These systems include the standard-fitted Crosswind Assist and the optional active parking assist. The latter makes parking the MPV as easy as parking a compact car. Best-in-class fuel efficiency is ensured by cutting-edge turbodiesel engines boasting incredibly low fuel consumption values of 5.7 to 6.0 liters per 100 kilometers. The new V-Class is also a standout because of its great spaciousness and its wide variety of seating and cargo configurations. The separately opening rear window, which enables users to access a second luggage compartment, is a special highlight for the easy loading and unloading of cargo.

The new premium MPV will be appearing at all Mercedes-Benz car and commercial vehicle dealerships at the end of May. Because the vehicle will be available through both sales channels, all customer groups can be optimally served.

Mercedes-Benz V-Class World Premiere

With the new V-Class, Mercedes-Benz is completely redefining the MPV

Launching today at the Munich Olympics complex is the new Mercedes-Benz V-Class. At its world premiere, the youngest and largest member of the Mercedes-Benz family will be on display to over 450 international guests. With the new V-Class, Mercedes-Benz is completely redefining the MPV and setting benchmarks for the segment with regard to design, appearance, comfort, versatility, efficiency, and safety. In Germany, customers will be able to order the V-Class beginning on March 6, 2014; the market launch will begin in late May.

“With the new V-Class we are expanding the Mercedes-Benz premium automobile range with a sedan for up to eight people,” says Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars Division. “Functionality is a must for an MPV; comfort and style are the icing on the cake. The new V-Class combines both in a way that no other vehicle in this segment can offer.”

Mercedes-Benz V-Class

Mercedes-Benz

The V-Class boasts an extensive range of new features that so far do not exist in any other vehicle in this segment. The MPV is equipped with Crosswind Assist and ATTENTION ASSIST as standard. Also available as options are many practical assistants, including a 360-degree camera, active parking assistance systems, and the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission. Another completely new feature is the latest-generation multimedia system, which comes with a touchpad for operating all of the telematics functions in the vehicle. The new V-Class also offers impressive spaciousness and a wide variety of seat configurations in the rear. Examples include individual seats and benches for two or three passengers. The separately opening rear window is a special highlight for the easy loading and unloading of cargo. The rear window can be opened and closed independently of the rear hatch, enabling users to access a second cargo platform.

At its market launch, the new V-Class will be available with a cutting-edge turbodiesel in three output ratings. The 2.1-liter four-cylinder engine has common rail direct injection and is available in 100 kW (136 hp), 120 kW (163 hp), and 140 kW (190 hp) versions. The engine with the internal designation OM 651 has proven its worth in almost all of the brand’s car models, from the A-Class to the S-Class. The Mercedes engineers have specifically enhanced it for use in the new V-Class. They focused on combining the superior performance of a six-cylinder engine with the exemplary efficiency of a four-cylinder unit. In the top-of-the-line V 250 BlueTEC model, this results in a torque range and power delivery that are comparable to those of the previous three-liter V6 turbodiesel, even though the new vehicle consumes up to 28 percent less fuel and meets the Euro 6 emissions standard, thanks to BlueTEC.

The new V-Class addresses three customer groups

“The new V-Class demonstrates that an elegant and dynamic appearance is also possible in size XXL,” says Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans. “The V-Class is a versatile, multitalented vehicle that offers value, efficiency, and safety at the highest level. As a result, we are addressing completely new customer groups — including people who need a large amount of space but never wanted to drive an MPV because style, well-being, and riding comfort have so far been neglected in this segment.”

Mercedes-Benz Vans has made sure that the new V-Class meets a wide variety of customer requirements, focusing especially on the needs of three customer groups. First, families that include two or more children and value an active family life, leisure time, and a good work-life balance. Secondly, people who are very active in their leisure time. Because these individuals have a lot of sports and outdoor equipment, they need more transport capacity but would still like to remain as independent as possible. The third group consists of operators of luxurious VIP or hotel shuttle buses who want to provide their passengers with a comfortable and high-quality travel experience.

“The new V-Class is simply the best vehicle available in its segment,” says Mornhinweg. “It’s a stylish all-rounder that can be customized to fit every taste and every requirement. And the designation ‘best-in-class’ also applies to the vehicle’s price-to-performance ratio. The new V-Class can be had for as little as €42,900, excluding sales tax — at any Mercedes dealership, no matter whether it’s a sales outlet for vans or cars.”

To ensure that all customer groups can be optimally served, the new V-Class will be available at dealers of Mercedes-Benz cars and commercial vehicles and marketed through both sales channels. For example, families will be able to buy the V-Class at their usual Mercedes-Benz car dealers, while business customers, including VIP shuttle companies and hotel fleet operators, will also be able to purchase the V-Class at a Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle dealership.

Big investments strengthen production plant

Top-quality vehicle production operations are just as important as a strong customer focus in sales. Daimler AG is therefore investing extensively in the Mercedes-Benz plant in Vitoria, Spain, to prepare the facility for the production launch of the new V-Class. The investment of around €190 million will primarily cover the modernization and reorganization of the plant’s body shop, paint shop, and assembly units. The site’s logistics are also being optimized. The plant currently employs more than 3,100 men and women who manufacture around 75,000 medium-duty vans per year. “With the investment of approximately €190 million we are strengthening our Vitoria facility and making it fit for the future,” says Mornhinweg. “At the same time, we are emphasizing the importance of the second-largest van plant in the global production network of Mercedes-Benz Vans.”

Mercedes Reveals the New V-Class Interior

Set to replace the Viano, the new V-Class from Mercedes will arrive next year

The Mercedes-Benz full size MPVs will be arriving next year in the form of the new V-Class. The successor to the Viano, the newest and largest member of the Mercedes-Benz passenger car family, will be arriving in 2014 – and with it a clear ambition to redefine the benchmark in this segment. The new V-Class therefore combines outstanding spaciousness and exceptional functionality with the sense of quality, the aesthetic appeal, the comfort and the safety that typically characterise the cars that bear the three-pointed star. All this together makes the V-Class the ideal vehicle for large families, for those who take part in active recreational activities and for shuttle service operators, all of whom desire to enjoy and offer only the best.

The interior of the new V-Class features high-quality appointments and reflects the style of Mercedes-Benz passenger car models. It thus very clearly embodies the unmistakable Mercedes-Benz passenger car design philosophy of ‘sensual clarity’. The typical contrasting interplay of organic surfaces and clear lines, along with warm and cool colour tones, conveys an exceptional sense of harmony and serves to underline the high-class feel of the vehicle. The car offers a perfect synthesis of function and emotion. This sophisticated finesse is rounded off by discreet ambient lighting in three colour shades. By adopting passenger car design elements, Mercedes-Benz raises the quality and aesthetic appeal of the V-Class to a new level in this segment.

“The interior of our new V-Class combines a generous amount of space and maximum variability with elegance and a high-quality appeal that is on a par with that of the best passenger cars around. In my view, the new V-Class is a true multitalent that is unrivalled in this segment”, says Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.

Interior design: visual breadth and high value

One of the most eye-catching features is the cockpit. The dynamically shaped dashboard is based on a two-section design with the emphasis firmly on breadth. The upper and lower sections are separated by a large, three-dimensional trim element that creates an impression of breadth and conveys a high sense of value. The lower section is sculptural in design. This emphasises the car’s spaciousness, whilst also giving a sense of lightness. For the first time in this class, there is the option of a leather-look cockpit upper section with lavishly finished topstitching. High-quality topstitching also features on the leather seats, on the armrests and in the centre section of the side panelling, emphasising the high-value appeal of the entire vehicle interior.

The high-quality and sophisticated impression is reinforced by the control and display components that are a hallmark of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars: the free-standing central display, the circular ventilation outlets, the 12-button multifunction steering wheel, the DIRECT SELECT lever including shift paddles if an automatic transmission is fitted, the central control panel with Controller (rotary pushbutton), and an innovative touchpad that can be used to operate all telematics functions by means of gestures or letter and number input as on a smartphone. The leather steering wheel fitted as standard is another first in the V-Class segment.

Exceptional comfort and wellbeing thanks to intelligent climate control system

The enhanced and uprated THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control likewise ensures a unique and individual feeling of comfort and wellbeing. It sets new standards in terms of the automatic mode’s ability to adapt to individual passenger requirements. The V-Class is the only vehicle in its segment to offer three different ventilation modes for personal climate control, automatic air recirculation when a tunnel is detected and cooling air distribution to both the driver’s and the front-passenger side, the intensity of which is automatically adjusted according to the position of the sun.

Separately opening rear window and second loading level

For easy loading and unloading, the V-Class features another first in this segment in the shape of the separately opening rear window attached to the upper tailgate frame. It can be opened and closed independently of the tailgate. This makes loading and unloading easier in two respects: on the one hand, it allows a second loading level; on the other hand, particularly in tight parking spaces, there is no need to open the large tailgate.

Latest COMAND Online generation and Burmester® Sound system

The new V-Class comes with a choice of three infotainment systems, offering a bespoke state-of-the-art solution for all budgets and requirements: Audio 20 USB (standard), Audio 20 CD and, at the top of the range, COMAND Online, which is a fully integrated multimedia system with 80 GB hard-disc navigation, DVD player, internet access and numerous additional functions. The latest generation of COMAND Online features a photorealistic map display, a series of useful apps, an additional Bluetooth® profile that allows internet access, for example from an iPhone®, and the relaying of traffic data in real time.

A superb audio experience comes courtesy of the optional Burmester® Surround Sound system. Optimised for the vehicle, this sound system features 16 high-performance speakers including a bass reflex loudspeaker and a 10-channel DSP amplifier with a total output of 640 watts for first-class “feelgood sound”. With COMAND Online and the Burmester® Surround Sound system, the V-Class raises the bar in its segment in terms of navigation, internet use and the enjoyment of music.

Extensive safety equipment

Another USP of the V-Class is its extensive package of safety equipment, including numerous innovative driver assistance systems based on sophisticated radar, camera and ultrasonic sensors, first introduced under the name “Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive” in the new E-Class and S-Class. They reduce the risk of hazards such as strong crosswind gusts, the blind spot or insufficient distance to other vehicles to an absolute minimum. The new full size MPV is even as easy to park as a compact car. The assistance systems enhance both comfort and safety.

Standard equipment for the V-Class includes ATTENTION ASSIST, which warns against drowsiness and inattention, and Crosswind Assist. The latter can compensate for the effects of wind by applying the brakes on the front and rear wheels on the side of the vehicle facing the wind. Further assistance systems include Blind Spot Assist, Active Parking Assist, which allows automatic parking in parallel and perpendicular parking spaces with active steering and brake actuation, a 360° camera, radar-based COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST with adaptive Brake Assist and Traffic Sign Assist with wrong-way warning function.
