2015 Mercedes-Benz M-Class Spied Winter Testing

Facelifted 2015 Mercedes M-Class spied winter testing near the Arctic Circle

The Mercedes M-Class has been on the market for a couple of years and is still the company’s top selling SUV.  But it seems Mercedes thinks that in order to stay on top that they’re going to have to throw in a facelift soon to keep driver’s interested.

2015 Mercedes-Benz M-Class Spied

2015 Mercedes-Benz M-Class Spied

Spied doing a bit of testing near the Arctic Circle, the facelifted Mercedes M-Class is sporting an updated front fascia with a single bar grille and redesigned headlights. According to WCF’s photographer there are also new character lines and an updated daytime running light bar.

Even though the exterior is being revamped, don’t look for much in the way of engine updates as options will carryover from the current generation with minor modifications that improve performance and fuel efficiency. One major change we may see however is a new hybrid variant and an ML 400 that is fitted with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 that is capable of outputting around 330 bhp (246 kW) and 350 lb-ft (474 Nm) of torque.

The 2015 Mercedes GLA Vs. Its Competition

Learn how the 2015 GLA stacks up against the other key competitors in the compact luxury SUV segment

The newest model from Mercedes-Benz – the 2015 GLA-Class – will make its world premiere in just two weeks at the Frankfurt International Motor Show. Scheduled to hit showrooms in the fall of 2014, the new GLA will compete with cars like the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and the Range Rover Evoque. But how will it fair against such worthy competitors?

First let’s look at it’s size.  Measuring in at 173.9 inches long, 71 inches wide and 58.8 inches tall, the 2015 GLA is larger than its sleek design reveals, and similar in size to its closest competitors in the luxury compact SUV segment.  One thing that’s not similar, however is the GLA’s fuel efficiency, with the new compact Mercedes boasting performance as high as 37 mpg, whereas the Range Rover Evoque tops out at 28, the BMW X1 at 34 and the Audi Q3 at nearly 27 mpg.  As such, the 2015 GLA is the ideal choice for commuters and virtually anyone that would rather spend their money on something other than gas.

At it’s core, the GLA is a Mercedes, full of premium features we’ve come to expect from a Mercedes-Benz. But the GLA is more than just a luxury vehicle, it’s a true SUV, youthful and perfectly suited to fit all your weekend getaway gear:  bikes, surfboards, etc. The GLA is a Mercedes that’s been designed with the active buyer in mind.  In terms of performance, one key thing to note is that the 4MATIC GLA has been fitted with DSR or Downhill Speed Regulation as well as an off-road transmission mode. So while you may not be doing IRON-Schöckl along side the G-Class, you’ll have no problem in everyday off-road situations.

Another key area that makes the 2015 Mercedes GLA stand ahead of its competitors is in the immense amount of tech Mercedes has packed into it, starting with the Mercedes mbrace2 system. Mbrace2 allows users to stay connected at all times, whether it be for online, concierge services, smartphone connection, etc.  Users are able to take advantage of the newest cloud technology in order to access your personal content.

And while it may not be the first thing on a buyer’s mind, the GLA is packed full of safety features that until recently were only found on the top of the line Mercedes models. These include Attention Assist, to make sure you stay alert while driving; Collision Prevention Assist, a brake assist system that activates at only 4 mph; and Distronic Plus, which when combined with Collision Prevention Assist, will automatically brake the car for you in the event it detects an impending crash situation. Then there’s the Blind Spot and Lane Keeping Assist, Park Assist, and the list goes on.

All of this adds up to the fact that when the new GLA hits the market next Fall, it will will without question be the leader in its respective segment.

Stay tuned as we bring you coverage from the Frankfurt Motor Show with more photos and information on the all-new 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLA.

Mercedes G63 AMG Tuner Sure to Turn Heads

Mercedes G63 AMG Tuned by RENNtech and ADV.1 receives shocking red makeover

The Mercedes G63 AMG on its own is impressive.  When we had our first drive of the new AMG SUV, we were most surprised at the acceleration.  The 5.5 liter twin-turbo V8 propels the 5,800 lb tank SUV 0-60 in just 5.3 seconds. If the off-roader’s ability to gain speed isn’t enough to impress the body of the G63 AMG is.  Covered in chrome with it’s blacked out windows and loaded interior, there is little left to desire from this car.

Tuning houses wouldn’t be around however if there weren’t a few of you that  want just a little more out of the already stacked SUV. Love it or hate it, this tuning program is sure to catch people’s attention thanks mostly to it’s storm red color.

In addition to its shocking shade of red, the custom job also comes with ADV7.1 wheels, a more aggressive one-piece forged aluminum wheel.

The car can be bought for a slight price increase over the stock AMG price of $134,300 for $199,950.

Mercedes-Benz GLA Official Photos, Video and Specs

Mercedes-Benz will be showing off the brand new GLA compact premium-class SUV at Auto Shanghai motor show beginning on Sunday

Mercedes-Benz will be showing off a brand new compact premium-class SUV at the “Auto Shanghai” motor show, beginning on Sunday, April 21 and running through April 29, in the form of its all-new Concept GLA. With the Concept GLA, Mercedes combines dynamic styling with recreational purpose. Under the hood of the new GLA concept, measureing length/width/height: 4383/1978/1579 millimetres, sits a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine rated at 155 kW (211 hp) with a displacement of 1991 cc. Its power is transmitted to the road via the 7G-DCT dual clutch automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive. A new approach is taken here in the form of headlamps featuring laser technology: these not only shine more light on the road, but also function as projectors.

“The Concept GLA marks a new approach for us in the compact SUV segment – this is a sporty and more coupé-like evolution of this category of vehicle”, commented Dr Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President Mercedes-Benz Cars, Sales and Marketing. “The Concept GLA is a compact SUV that combines its sporting spirit with the all-round qualities of a tough, leisure-time companion. ‘Escape the everyday’ is the message that this car conveys to its driver. It also makes clear the further potential of our compact vehicle architecture, which provides the basis for the A- and B-Class models that led the German market in their respective segments in the first quarter of 2013.”

Clever use of SUV design cues: the exterior design

Clear evidence of the innovative thinking on the part of the designers that has gone into this concept vehicle is provided by a number of distinctive features. These include the powerful bonnet with its powerdomes and a sporty radiator grille with centrally positioned star. The new-style surround to the star merges elegantly into two horizontal bars. Likewise new are the so-called “softcubes”: these are soft, raised pads that help to give definition to the radiator grille and are also to be found on the side sill panels and alongside the exhaust tailpipes.

The distinctive door mirrors, with their twin supporting struts, are fitted with a protective grille. This, like the underride guard at the front, is very much a typical SUV feature. The striking appearance of the Concept GLA is also, not least, the result of its silver Alubeam paint finish.

Seen from the side, too, the Concept GLA conveys a sense of power and confidence. This reinforces the overall design philosophy behind the vehicle with a “dropping line” that extends from the headlamp to the rear wheel arch. The beltline trim rises slightly from the rear door towards the C-pillar. Together with the light-catching contour formed by the curvature of the vehicle flank and the line that rises from the level of the door sill towards the dropping line, this creates a unique interplay of lines that adds to the sense of elegant dynamism. The slim door handles of the five-door vehicle are fully recessed, emerging at the touch of a button. The frameless side windows also emphasise the coupé characteristics of this concept vehicle.

The 20-inch wheels, with their distinctive five-spoke turbine design, are shod in size 255/45 R 20 tyres. These have been specifically created for the Concept GLA: their tread pattern continues the lines of the spokes in an optical illusion that makes the latter appear longer.

The muscular haunches above the rear axle, accentuated by the way the C-pillar is pulled in slightly, extend to the rear over the light clusters, so also emphasising the broad stance of the tail end. The outcome is a powerfully taut arc that nevertheless avoids aggression. This impression is reinforced by the curvature of the rear window and the elegant chrome strip between the rear light clusters. The large roof spoiler is a further eye-catching feature. This follows through very neatly on the structure of the rear roof panelling and provides the housing for the additional brake light.

Further SUV references, such as a load sill guard and a concealing underride fascia panel, are to be found in the area of the rear bumper covering. The twin-pipe exhaust system is evidence of the car’s sporty aspirations.

The tailgate features a power closing system that allows it to be opened or closed at the touch of a button. Opening the tailgate with its integrated rear light cluster reveals supplementary lights to warn approaching vehicles of the open tailgate. Further light clusters are housed in the rear cross member between the roof rails.

Perfect craftsmanship: the interior

In terms of its design, the interior reflects a clear alignment with the interiors of the other new compact Mercedes models, reinterpreted here for a sophisticated and exceptionally high-quality SUV. It is dominated by an exciting juxtaposition of leather and dark galvanised aluminium. The four individual seats and the door centre panels are upholstered in natural leather in a rich shade of brown. Both colour and workmanship bring the image of a saddle to mind: all in all, the Concept GLA incorporates more than 20 metres of hand-stitched seams to hold the raw edges of the leather together. The seat cushions, which feature central inlay panels in a high-quality canvas material, display an embossed pattern that continues the saddle theme. An illuminated insert is set into the integrated head restraint of each of the four sports seats.

Grey leather with a graphically applied grain is used on the backs of the front seats, amongst other places, and continues the idea of patterns being continued over from other surfaces. The armrests and centre panels of the door linings are designed as a very clear structural unit.

The instrument panel is constructed in several layers. On top of a leather-upholstered surface sits a framework in a combination of matt and polished aluminium, which provides the necessary support for all the instruments. This is held in place by clearly visible screws, featuring a specially devised design. This unit is protected from dust and dirt by a plexiglas covering that is illuminated from behind, so adding to the impression that the different levels are free-floating. The control buttons for COMAND Online have also been crafted with meticulous technical precision. They are made of plexiglas and painted from the back in black. Pictograms are then etched into the black, also from the back, before being filled in.

The air vents in the instrument panel as well as in the rear represent a further stylistic development of the vents used in the Concept A-CLASS and Concept Style Coupé, and are likewise illuminated from behind. They change colour according to the interior temperature set by the occupants. At a temperature of 22 degrees Celsius they light up in white. If a cooler temperature is selected for the interior, they turn blue, while opting for an influx of warm air switches the illumination to red.

Fibre-optic ambient lighting in the load compartment visually extends the line drawn by the centre console all the way from the instrument panel through to the rear seats. A rectangle of lighting strip inset into the load compartment floor serves to highlight its level surface. Luggage can be secured firmly with a spring-loaded four-point harness, as used in helicopters. A simple handle is used to fold the backrests of the rear sports seats forward to create a level load compartment floor.

Laser light: new-style headlamps project light and images

Film time! The front headlamps of the Concept GLA are each fitted with a laser-beam projector. These not only provide the light to drive by, but are also capable of projecting pictures or films onto a screen or other surface. Any format that can be operated through COMAND Online can serve as a source: pictures or films from a smartphone, the internet, or from a hard drive.

Alternatively, the action can be produced live. The Concept GLA is fitted with two cameras, housed in the front roof rail. And these can be used for far more than just 3D images taken as the Concept GLA drives along: the HD cameras can be removed and, for example, fitted to a mountain bike helmet. An additional lamp unit in each camera ensures that the lighting is right, whatever the situation. As an alternative to the projection option, films may also be viewed inside the car on the COMAND Online screen.

The laser-beam projectors represent far more than simply an academic exercise on the part of the engineers and designers at Mercedes-Benz. As a further enhancement of the head-up display, they could also help to improve road safety: the technology could be used, for example, to project the directional instructions from the navigation system onto the road in the form of arrows – in this way other road users, too, would be able to see where a driver is heading.

Laser and LED technology: the headlamps

It is not only the laser-beam projectors and their visible cooling system provided by rotating vents that make the shimmering blue headlamps of the Concept GLA such an interesting feature. With the “Coming home” function, the blue light begins to pulsate to indicate that the vehicle is ready and waiting for its driver.

While the driving lights are produced here for the first time by a laser beam reflected off a mirror lens, the daytime running lamps, with their characteristic “torch” effect, as well as the indicator lights, consist of LEDs. The indicators take the form of digital chase lighting strips and, as such, represent a further development of the “Mexican wave” design used on the Concept Style Coupé.

Next-Generation Mercedes GLK AMG Variant Unlikely

AMG Director of Vehicle Development announced that AMG has had discussions about a GLK AMG, but it's unlikely

While we always hate to be the bearers of bad news, it is our job to report to all of our readers, even the GLK lovers, that Tobias Moers, AMG Director of Vehicle Development announced that while AMG has had discussions about a future GLK AMG, they just don’t see a market for one right now.  If you’re a glass half full kind of person, there’s a small glimmer of hope in that statement, “right now”. These statements come out after AMG committed an increased line-up of all-wheel-drive vehicles.

When asked about Audi dilluting their RS lineup with it’s mini SUV, Moer added that, “What they [Audi] did with the RSQ3, I don’t think is the right strategy.” “It’s not enough horsepower for an RS model”.

As for that glimmer of hope that a GLK AMG could someday happen, Moer also noted that “Maybe we will change our mind” “Maybe there will be a change in market when the Porsche [Macan] comes up, but right now, no.” Source: CarAdvice

Armored Mercedes-Benz M-Class Guard Officially Announced

The Armored Mercedes M-Class Guard can withstand shots fired from a .357 Magnum and .44 caliber and others

Mercedes-Benz announced today that they will be offering Guard models of the ML350 BlueTEC and ML500, both of which comply with the requirements for protection level VR4.  And while one can never be sure where the future is headed, be it a Zombie Apocalypse or third World War, the one certainty is that the new armored M-Class Guard is going to keep you safer than any traditional Mercedes model.

Helping keep the zombies out, the newest Guard model has been specifically designed and developed from the ground up to accept the attachment of front to back in armored elements.  So while you may think you can create your own Apocalypse-proof zombie crusher by welding iron plates to your current M-Class, think again.  You’re going to lose valuable handling capabilities, which in turn means that high speed chase you will invariably find yourself in will end in a gruesome crash and the zombies happily picking the flesh from your cold, lifeless body.

Not a pretty picture.

Instead, the factory Mercedes M-Class Guard utilizes perfectly fitted and formed steel that has been implemented on the A-, B- and C- pillars, and the same steel also reinforces the passenger compartment and increases the overall structural integrity of the vehicle.  The handling rivals that of the conventional model, and the chance of a rollover is subsequently reduced as well.  In the event the zombies take up arms and start a gunfight – which is quite unlikely due to their lack of logical thought and poor dexterity – the new M-Class Guard can withstand shots from all angles both from a .357 Magnum and .44 caliber round.  It’s also capable of withstanding blasts from certain hand grenades.  If, however, hand grenades are a primary concern of yours, we do suggest adding on the optional floor armor as well.  Lastly, the M-Class Guard also offers specially laminated glazing with uniform thickness and polycarbonate layers on both sides to prevent flying shards, zombie bone fragments, etc. from penetrating the vehicle.

Not forgotten by Mercedes are the tires, because finding yourself trapped in a bullet proof box with the inability to drive is still a bleak outlook.  Helping prevent this unfortunate scenario, the M-Guard is fitted with tires that have run-flat capability, allowing you to safely drive on tires with complete loss of air for 18 miles at a top speed of 50 mph.

Finally, thanks to the option being able to build the M-Class Guard on the ML 350 BlueTEC platform, you have the option of an efficient diesel power plant – a very intelligent option due to the fuel shortage that is all but a certainty when zombies are running rampant. It offers the tried-and-tested V6-cylinder diesel engine with 190 kW output (258 hp) and a top torque level of 620 Nm.  If, on the other hand, you want to sacrifice fuel for speed, you can also opt for the V8 powered ML 500 Guard with 300 kW (408 hp) and 600 Nm  as an alternative to the diesel option.

Whatever you pick, your chances of doing battle with the zombies and living to tell about it have gone up exponentially.

Read on for the complete press release or check out the videos of other Mercedes armored vehicles.

The new special-protection variant of the M-Class is the latest addition to the extensive Mercedes-Benz Guard family. As with all Guard models, the armoured version of this popular SUV follows the brand-typical integrated special protection design principle. All the additional protection systems are taken fully into account right from the development phase of each model series and perfectly integrated into the vehicle’s architecture. This enables all the advantages of the standard series-production vehicle to be retained, such as for instance the luxurious yet functional vehicle interior, the high level of active and passive safety, the exceptional ride comfort and the agile driving dynamics.

As with all special-protection vehicles with the three-pointed star, in the new M-Guard the focus is on a holistic development approach: integrated special protection. This means that the individual protection elements are integrated in the raw vehicle bodyshell from scratch in an autonomous process, by virtue of which the entire passenger compartment receives a kind of coat of armour that even includes elements such as the roof frame struts, locks, door gaps and exterior mirror mounts. This way, a Mercedes-typical comprehensive protection system against ballistic attacks is created, providing protection that includes places where retrofitting would hardly be possible, or would be much less effective.

Another advantage of the integrated protection concept over retrofits that burden the vehicle body structure with added weight: right from the outset the vehicle bodyshell is strengthened in accordance with the greater weight and the positioning of the armour elements. This results in a greater stability of the entire body structure and consequently in the typical longevity and high resistance characteristic of the conventional M-Class models.

M-Class Guard: all-round protection

The bodyshell of the M-Class goes through all the stages of large-series production, benefiting from the excellent quality of the M-Class bodyshell. Unlike its standard series-production counterpart, though, the Guard bodyshell has specific adaptations for the attachment of the armour elements, a front structure with reinforcing elements and modified doors. The armour itself includes:

Windows of the highest optical quality Special laminated glazing with a uniform thickness all-round, polycarbonate layer on inside to protect against shards.

In the un-transparent sectors perfectly tight-fitting formed special steel is used throughout. In the A-, B- and C- pillars and the firewall and roof, this steel also reinforces the passenger compartment and increases structural firmness.

All the components installed comply with defined ballistic requirements, are subjected to constant ballistic control and are already correspondingly certified beforehand.

Complies with VR 4 protection class

The new M-Guard meets the requirements of protection level VR4 according to testing guidelines BRV 2009 for special-protection vehicles with bullet resistance (according to Bullet Resistant Vehicles 2009). This ballistic classification designates ballistic resistance (VR = Vehicle Resistance) in terms of the weapons and calibre: in this case, among others, Magnum .357 and .44. Certification was carried out by the Ulm-based Ballistics Bureau. This independent, neutral, test ensures that the integrated protection concept is appropriate to face the hard requirements of real danger situations. The M‑Guard passed the following ballistic and explosives tests successfully:

  • Fire from different angles
  • Blasts, for example with DM51 hand grenade, according to test guidelines ERV 2010. Both in the front and in the vehicle rear, these were resisted by the M-Guard with the optional floor armour successfully

Well–harmonised suspension, powerful engines

In spite of the increased weight caused by its armour, the M-Guard achieves the impressive ride comfort, great agility and extraordinary active safety of its series-production counterpart. The special-protection variant features as standard an AIRMATIC air suspension system with Adaptive Damper System (ADS) specifically adapted to the vehicle’s special protection features. Stronger axle components compensate for the increased weight of the M-Guard superbly, Guard-specific torsion bars at the rear axle optimise roll behaviour in fast curves and when taking evasive action.

The M-Guard is exclusively available with tires with run-flat capability and 5‑spoke 50.8 cm (20-inch) AMG light-alloy wheels. MOE tyres with run-flat capability make it possible to drive on safely for up to 30 km at a maximum speed of 80 km/h even if the tyre has suffered a total loss of air.

With the new ML 350 BlueTEC Guard there is a diesel power plant that is just as economical as it is agile for the first time in this segment. It offers the tried-and-tested V6-cylinder diesel engine with 190 kW output (258 hp) and a top torque level of 620 Nm. It meets the requirements of the currently strictest EURO 6 emissions standard. The V8 petrol-engine-powered ML 500 Guard with 300 kW (408 hp) and 600 Nm is available as an alternative. LHD and RHD versions of both vehicles are available.

Unrestricted interior space

The sporty character and high value appeal of the series-production vehicle are also distinctive of the generously-dimensioned interior of the M-Guard. The protection measures restrict neither the car’s famed ambience of well-being nor the space available for its up to five passengers. Its load capacity of up to 2010 litres and the payload of around 560 kg are of the same high level as those of the series-production non-special protection M-Class models. In addition the M-Guard customers can choose from among most of the M-Class’s attractive equipment options. Among these worthy of note are for instance exclusive leather appointments, infotainment systems, such as COMAND Online, and high-value sound systems.

Extensive trial program for top reliability

Apart from the specific ballistic tests carried out by the Ballistics Bureau in Ulm, the M-Guard has to pass a detailed test programme just like its series-production counterparts. These trials mimic everyday operating conditions, exceeding these parameters by a large factor in many cases. They include an endurance test lasting several weeks to determine bodyshell strength, standardised simulation of arduous roads on special bodywork test rigs and road endurance tests to ensure the durability of drivetrain and suspension under extreme conditions. Over and above these trials, heat and cold tests and high-speed driving on test courses are carried out to ensure the resistance of individual components and their overall operation under the greatest stresses. In a separate winter trial on ice and snow, the engineers adjust the driving dynamics systems to the increased weight due to the armour. Finally a crash test programme ensures fault-free operation of all passive protection systems.

Mercedes-Benz offers nine special-protection models

The Guard programme currently includes vehicles of the S-, E-, M- and G-Class. With a total of nine models Mercedes Benz has one of the most comprehensive special-protection ranges:

  • E 350 BlueTEC Guard
  • E 250 Guard*

Hamann Spyridon Mercedes G65 AMG On Display in Geneva

Unveiled in Geneva, the Hamann Spyridon G65 AMG features gold interior, glowing exterior and massive engine updates

It is not only the car brands that are premiering new vehicles at the Geneva Motor Show, tuners are taking advantage of the internationally covered stage as well. One of those tuners is none other than Hamann with their Hamann Spyridon Mercedes G65 AMG. Hamann’s upgrades are available for both the Mercedes G65 AMG and the G63 AMG models. Below you can see photos of the Hamann Spyridon on teh 2013 Geneva Motor Show floor alongside Hamann’s other, more brightly colored creations.

The Hamann Spyridon has updated its exterior with a new paint job, that with a bit of electricity glows. The exterior features mirror housings and a bonnett that are made from carbon fiber and weight in at a mere 14.33 lbs. The roof spoiler and the rear apron with integrated diffuser improve the AMG SUV’s dynamics while the new side skirts have integrated LEDs that light up the floor and illuminate the triple tailpipes Hamann added to both sides. The pipes were milled from a solid block of aluminum before being anodized in a gold coloring to match the rest of the SUV’s updates.

Power gains on the Hamann G-Class are certainly impressive, the Mercedes-Benz G65 AMG produces 612hp while with Hamann’s tuning program easily serves up 702hp and a maximum torque of 1,110Nm. The 5.5 Litre V8 bi-turbo Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG is now able to produce an astounding 610hp instead 544hp and reaching a peak torque of 875Nm rather than 700Nm.

Not forgotten by Hamann was the interior of the Hamann Spyridon Mercedes-Benz G 65 AMG – it includes decorative stitching on the seats and instrument pane, gold-colored leather door panels, aluminum sports pedals and brushed stainless steel door sills with white illuminated Hamann logos that can also be found on the floor mat set that has been made with threaded, black pearl velour.

Mercedes G63 / G65 AMG Mansory Gronos Unveiled Ahead of Geneva

Instead of the standard 544 hp the G63 AMG GRONOS offers up 840 hp, while the max torque is up to an electronically-limited 1000 Nm

MANSORY has today unveiled their latest cration for the new Mercedes G 63 AMG and G 65 AMG SUV’s to be on display at the Geneva Motor Show starting tomorrow. Mastering both the 8 and 12 cylindar engines like the Greek god Cronos did with his 12 Titans, Mansory dubbed the new kit the Gronos.

The Mansory Gronos has been completely reworked, genuine racing components were installed in the the eight-cylinder bi-turbo engine of the AMG along with engine pistons, connecting rods, rod bearings, crankshaft, crank, the cylinder head and many other parts that now meet the high demands of Kourosh Mansory. Together with the newly designed exhaust system from the manifold right up to the double stainless steel tailpipes, which poke out before the rear wheels, resulting in superior performance characteristics. Instead of developing 544 hp (400 kW) the GRONOS reaches an impressive 840 hp (618 kW), while the maximum torque is raised to an electronically-limited 1000 Nm. An increase in performance for the 12 cylinder G 65 AMG is already in the experimental stage.

The GRONOS wears completely new bodywork designed from ultra-light carbon, its stiffness handles all the demands of terrain, road and track. On the front spoiler with the LED daytime running lights and the front fairing that lays over it, the material with the characteristic grain on the styling fins in visible carbon fibre meets the light of day. Even the lining of the headlights displays material typical for MANSORY.

The main headlights are also the centrepiece of the new MANSORY Lightelements design, which give the GRONOS a completely self-contained look. In addition to the elegant design of the lights this also includes clever solutions like the hidden indicators. These no longer squat clumsily on the fenders, but are now embedded in the nine pinhead-sized recesses underneath the headlights.

As on the entire vehicle multiple layers of paint in Magic Yellow colour cover the bonnet, while still sometimes allowing a glimpse of the extravagant use of carbon fibre. The roof, the mirror housings and the decorative trims on the sides of the GRONOS can shine in their pure carbon design even without additional colour.

The new width, among others, is responsible for the self-assured appearance of GRONOS. Thanks to the wider wings and the side skirts the G model has grown by 20 mm in width. The wheel arches which have been stretched to the side are filled by forged wheels, which celebrate their world premier in the GRONOS. The rims with the ten twin spokes measure 23 inches, which are coated in ultra-high-performance 305/30/23 Vredestein Ultrac Vorti tyres. At the back the rear spoiler in a new design and of course the spare wheel cover made of carbon fibre round off the transformation of the GRONOS.

The continuation of these can be found in the interior. Both the dashboard as well as the entire area of the centre console has been completely re-designed. The in-house upholstery has, in collaboration with the design department, implemented a carbon design with coloured elements, which extends the concept of the exterior into the interior. The team has once again shown that at MANSORY only the best pristine leather of the highest grade, error-free fine woods, and of course, only perfectly produced carbon fibre will be worked with.

This is the only way to a complete transformation, which is worthy of the MANSORY GRONOS name.
MANSORY Design & Holding GmbH exclusively offers their own specially developed modification accessories. It does not trade in complete vehicles and also does not offer these for sale.

6×6 Mercedes G63 AMG Confirmed for Production

The Mercedes G63 AMG 6x6 will get a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 with 536 hp with Torque output at 560 lb-ft

There is no better way to start your morning off than by watching a video of the biggest, most extraordianry SUV to ever wear the Mercedes-Benz badge.  The colossal 536-hp, six-wheel G63 AMG 6×6 is scheduled to be produced at Magna Steyr’s in Graz, Austria on a limited basis of 20-30 produced per year.

The extreme pickup began it’s career as a six-wheeled military version of the G320 CDI produced for the Australian army and has been in use since 2011.

For us civilians though, the four-seat cabin is covered in plush leather, has six driven wheels, low range gearing, five differential locks and a tire-control system for the 37-inch wheels. Also unlike the military version that was fitted with a Mercedes-Benz 3.0-liter V6 diesel, the civilian G63 AMG 6×6 gets a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 with 536 hp. Torque output is at 560 lb-ft and is crucial in order to provide the push necessary to move the 6×6’s 8,322-pound curb weight.

Pricing for the 6-wheeler has yet to be announced, but according to the head of G-class development, Axel Harries, he suggests the G63 AMG 6×6 will be the second most expensive Mercedes-Benz model behind the new $457,000 (350,000 euros) SLS Electric Drive. Sales will begin in October of this year.

Spy Photos: Mercedes-Benz MLC Chassis Testing Mule

Still in the early stages of development, we will likely not see full body prototypes of the MLC for some time

First confirmed in October of 2011, the first spy photos of a Mercedes-Benz MLC chassis testing mule have made their way onto the web, and our good friends at GMotors have them.  The MLC Chassis mule was spied testing in Europe against a BMW X6.

The MLC will use a modified ML platform, and if you look a bit closer you can see that the rear axle of the ML mules has been broadened, and that the rear wheel cases have been modified as well.

Still in the early stages of development, we will likely not see full body prototypes of the MLC for some time.

In order for Mercedes to keep up with the competition from the BMW X6, the Infinity FX and Audi’s reported SUV Coupe dubbed the Q6, the MLC will be a redesigned ML with a coupe styled roofline.

When it goes to market, engine options are expected to be very similar to the ML-Class, including the top of the range AMG model, which will use a 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 with up to 550bhp.  The MLC is expected to arrive sometimes in 2014 and will be produced in Mercedes’ Tuscaloosa plant.

Mercedes ML63 AMG Rezonance by RevoZport

RevoZport unveiled their power kit for the Mercedes ML63 AMG which now outputs 600 hp

When it comes to high powered SUV’s, the Mercedes ML63 AMG is best in class. Add to the already powerful ML63 AMG a power kit from Chai Wan-based tuning specialist, RevoZport and you have a sport utility vehicle that will take you nearly anywhere in record time.

The standard 2012 Mercedes ML63 AMG is powered by a 5.5-liter biturbo V8 engine that outputs 518 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. RevoZport updated the ML63 AMG with a carbon fiber intake system, a modified engine management mapping and a complete titanium exhaust system, in order to add an extra 82 hp for a total output on the RevoZport ML63 AMG at 600 hp. The tuner did not disclose the torque output of their ML63, sprint time or top speed, meaning they either forgot to include or did not have significant enough gains to warrant a discussion.

The RevoZport 2012 ML63 AMG comes with a carbon fibre front splitter, a carbon fibre rear diffuser, and roof spoiler. The front splitter is 30mm wider than the factory one, creating extra downforce on the SUV’s front axle. The RevoZport Mercedes ML63 AMG is additionally fitted with carbon fibre covers on the side mirror, and an updated front grille. The SUV is set atop 22-inch forged wheels and 13J x 335 tires.

Press Release

The new W166 ML63 may consider being the fastest and best looking ML ever since the ML is launched, the new turbo v8 with 525hp engine is however not enough in Revozport’s mind, perhaps 600hp is more like it.

By putting in a new carbon induction system, engine management mapping and a complete titanium exhaust, it takes this mean SUV to a complete new level of fast. Now with 600hp on hand and the roaring sound from the 6kg titanium exhaust, Revozport have designed a complete new set of aerokit for all the ML63 owners.

Revozport call it the Rezonance ML, which comprises of a new double deck carbon fibre front splitter, 30mm wider carbon over fender kit which allow this 600hp beast to put on their bespoke 22″ forged alloy 13J x 335 tires all round. The rear shows a complete 3 element diffuser in carbon fibre, a trunk roof spoiler and although retaining the AMG exhaa

The Rezonance ML63 complete aerokit is also available to the W166 ML owners by special request as a bespoke program.

2012 Mercedes ML63 AMG by Brabus B63 Outputs 620 hp

The new Brabus WIDESTAR wide-body ML63 AMG has been tuned to reach a top speed of 186 mph

Brabus refines the Mercedes ML 63 AMG. The spectacular WIDESTAR wide-body from Brabus outputs 456.3 kW / 620 hp (611 bhp) of power and a peak torque of 820 Nm (604 lb-ft) to give it a top speed of up to 300 km/h (186 mph), proving there is no such thing as enough power. The Brabus engine specialists have developed performance tuning for the ML63 AMG 5.5-liter V8 Biturbo engine named the B63-620 performance kit. The engine tuning kit is available in various versions for vehicles with or without AMG performance package.

The tuning involves the integration of a plug-and-play Brabus PowerXtra module into the engine electronics. This auxiliary control unit optimizes power yield as the result of a new mapping for injection and ignition as well as a moderate increase in boost pressure.

The perfect complement to the Brabus engine tuning for the ML 63 AMG is a stainless-steel Brabus sport exhaust system with butterfly valve. It gives drivers the option of switching between a discreet and quiet “coming home” mode and a decidedly throaty V8 exhaust note in “sport” mode at the push of a button. The Brabus sport exhaust features two ceramics-coated design exhaust embellishers on either side for an even more striking rear appearance.

ML 63 models delivered ex-factory without performance package gain an extra 69 kW / 95 hp (93 bhp) with Brabus B63-620 tuning; the performance version adds 45 kW / 63 hp (60 bhp). Both models produce a peak torque of 820 Nm (604 lb-ft), available between 2,000 and 5,000 rpm.

The Brabus-tuned SUV accelerates from rest to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. The Brabus Vmax unit that is part of the performance kit can be programmed to allow an electronically limited top speed of 280 or 300 km/h (174 or 186 mph).

At these speeds aerodynamic properties are crucial. To account for this fact, the Brabus designers have developed an additional spoiler for the production fascia. It is made from clear-coated carbon fiber and reduces lift on the front axle. A rear spoiler is available as its aerodynamic counterpart.

The front of the refined ML 63 AMG adds more appeal with striking attachments for the side air inlets. A centrally placed diffuser made from clear-coated carbon fiber adds even more sporty character to the rear.

The Brabus WIDESTAR fender flares on the front and rear axle add six centimeters (2.5 inches) to the width of the top-of-the-line M-Class. These flares give the vehicle a more bullish stance that is rounded out with the attachment components for the sides of the front and rear fasciae. But that’s not all: The WIDESTAR fender flares also make room for extremely wide Brabus king-size tires with diameters of up to 23 inches.

The largest possible tire/wheel combination for the Brabus WIDESTAR version features size 10Jx22 wheels. Customers can choose from five wheel designs, Monoblock VI, E, G “Platinum Edition”, Q and R. The most exclusive option is the Brabus Monoblock G “Platinum Edition” forged wheel. Thanks to cutting-edge manufacturing technology it offers an unparalleled combination of lightweight design and maximum strength. The corresponding high-performance tires in size 295/30 ZR 22 are supplied by Brabus technology partners Continental, Pirelli and YOKOHAMA.

A special Brabus control module for the AIRMATIC air suspension of the ML 63 AMG lowers the ride height of the high-performance SUV. This not only gives the all-wheel-drive car an even more striking appearance, the lowered center of gravity also further improves handling.

Brabus is one of the top addresses in the world for exclusive automotive interior design. The company upholstery shop uses the finest leather and Alcantara to craft custom-tailored interiors for the ML 63 AMG to suit each owner’s personal taste.

Wood and genuine carbon-fiber trim sets in any desired color and with a variety of surface finishes are available to round out the ensemble. A speedometer with 360-km/h dial (225 mph) is also part of the product program.

2013 Mercedes GL63 AMG Debuts at LA Auto Show – Pricing Announced

The GL63 AMG will start at $116,925 (excluding D&D) and goes on-sale during the first quarter of 2013

The high-performance Mercedes GL63 AMG sport utility is making its North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, open to the public from November 30 to December 9, 2012 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The latest model to join the award-winning newgeneration GL-Class family, the 2013 GL63 AMG features a 5.5-liter biturbo V8 engine that produces a breath-taking 550 horsepower and 560 lb.-ft of torque and a raised top speed of 174mph as well as an AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC transmission with the highefficiency ECO start/stop system.

The 2013 GL63 AMG features all the standard equipment of the generously-equipped GL550 as well as standard Driver Assistance Package, Panorama roof, designo interior and surround view camera. The GL63 AMG will start at $116,925 (excluding D&D) and goes on-sale during the first quarter of 2013.

Standard AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with AIRMATIC – air suspension, automatic level control and special shock absorber struts with ADS adaptive damping – works with an ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM that provides active stabilization of body lean. This AMG-designed system uses active front and rear stabilizer bars to reduce body lean during cornering.

The new GL63 boasts a special transfer case for the 4MATIC full-time four-wheel-drive system that distributes engine power 40:60 to the front and rear wheels. This rear-biased torque distribution helps provide the SUV with sports car handling as well as impressive allweather traction.

The GL63 AMG driver can choose between two suspension modes at the push of a button – Comfort or Sport. AMG electro-mechanical speed-sensitive steering features variable power assist, depending on the suspension setting. The new steering also helps save fuel, because it uses energy only when the steering wheel is being turned. In addition, the air suspension automatically lowers the body at higher speeds or when in Sport mode to improve aerodynamics and driving stability.

A Distinctive AMG Look

The GL63 AMG is fitted with flared fenders that increase body width by nearly two inches, which make room for 21-inch AMG alloy wheels shod with tires that are nearly 12 inches wide. Its special front apron features large air intakes and a border of LED daytime running lights in the side air intakes. Matte silver trim along the lower fascia and a gloss black grille complete the new look. “V8 BITURBO” badges are mounted on the front fenders, and aluminum-finish running boards under the doors are illuminated. The rear fender flares blend into an AMG rear apron which incorporates eye-catching matte silver chrome trim and two pairs of sport exhaust outlets.

In addition to AMG RIDE CONTROL, AIRMATIC, and the ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM, standard safety equipment on the GL63 AMG includes ATTENTION ASSIST, Crosswind Stabilization, a 360-degree camera system and Bi-xenon headlights. Other standard equipment includes KEYLESS-GO, panorama sunroof, power EASY-ENTRY for the rear seats and a power tailgate.

The 2013 GL Lineup

The new high-performance GL63 AMG joins an award-winning GL-Class line of full-size sport utilities that also features the fuel-sipping GL350 BlueTEC (240 hp, 455 lb.-ft.) with a V6 turbodiesel. Between these two contrasting models are the popular GL450 (362 hp, 406 lb.- ft.) and GL550 (429 hp, 516 lb.-ft.), both equipped with new direct injection biturbo V8 engines.

Electromechanical Rack-And-Pinion Steering

All four GL models come with new electrically-assisted rack-and-pinion steering. Not only does the electric steering provide built-in speed-dependent power assist, but it also offers fuel savings. The engine no longer has to turn a hydraulic power steering pump, and the new steering only uses electrical power when the wheel is being turned. Mounted ahead of the front wheel center, the steering gear unit has a variable mechanical ratio that operates more directly, or slightly faster, in the center position, which enhances agility and handling.

Active Parking Assist with Surround View Camera

The electric steering assist also makes other innovative systems possible, such as Active Parking Assist (standard on the GL63 AMG and GL550, optional on other GL models), which makes parallel parking a stress-free cinch. Below about 20 mph, a “P” icon appears in the dash to show that an electronic search for a parking space is active, and whenever an adequate-size parking space is found, an arrow appears next to the “P” icon. When reverse is engaged and the driver confirms Active Parking Assist is desired, the system initiates automatic steering as the driver controls acceleration and braking at speeds below seven
mph.

ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM

Standard on the GL63 AMG and optional on other GL models, the ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM (not to be confused with Active Curve Illumination) is a semi-active suspension that uses electronic sensors, an engine-driven hydraulic pump and electronically controlled hydraulic valves to reduce body lean. Instead of conventional torsional stabilizer bars at the front and rear, the stabilizer bars in the ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM are essentially split in the center and connected to rotary hydraulic actuators.

Whenever the vehicle is in a curve, the actuators counteract lateral pitching, reducing the natural tendency of the body to roll and lean in curves. Lower side forces means increased stability and driving pleasure, especially at high speeds, as well as less shifting of occupants.

ATTENTION ASSIST Cautions “Time For A Rest?”

Among the many life-saving features on the GL-Class is the innovative ATTENTION ASSIST system that can alert the driver to the first signs of drowsiness, a factor that causes more than 100,000 accidents a year in the U.S. A steering sensor is coupled to smart software that uses 70 parameters to establish a unique driver profile during the first 20 minutes of driving. Between 50 and 112 mph, the system identifies the erratic steering corrections drivers make as they begin to get drowsy and triggers an audible warning, and a “Time for a Rest?” message with a coffee cup icon appears in the instrument cluster.

More Safety Systems Assist the Driver

Other examples of trailblazing safety innovations include: Active Lane Keeping Assist, which alerts the driver by simulating rumble strip vibration in the steering wheel if the car drifts from its lane without the turn signals on. It operates at speeds above 37 mph via a system that recognizes lane markings, thanks to a small camera in the windshield and a computer that analyzes the video images. Active Lane Keeping Assist incorporates an intervention feature, in which ESP braking automatically helps correct the car’s course if the driver doesn’t heed the initial warning.

Active Blind Spot Assist monitors both blind spots behind and to the side of the vehicle. Whenever a turn signal is activated with a vehicle in the blind spot, the driver gets visual and audible warnings. Active Blind Spot Assist also incorporates the ESP intervention feature, which automatically helps correct the car’s course if the driver doesn’t heed the initial warning.

PRE-SAFE® Gives The GL-Class Reflexes to Protect Occupants

Standard on the new GL, PRE-SAFE® is a revolutionary safety system that can actually sense an impending collision before it happens and take measures to protect occupants during those valuable seconds before impact. The PRE-SAFE system automatically tightens the front seat belts before a possible impact, and, on some models, the front passenger seat moves to a position that can provide better protection. Side windows close to provide better support for the curtain air bags, and if the system senses an impending rollover, the sunroof also closes.

The Mercedes-Benz Alabama Plant

Along with the M-Class, the GL-Class sport utility vehicle is produced at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, which began production in 1997 with the first-generation M-Class. The facility is in the midst of a $2.4 billion expansion to prepare for future products. Starting in 2014, the Tuscaloosa plant will also produce the successor generation of the
current C-Class for the North American market.

Kim Kardashian Gave her 2013 Mercedes G63 AMG the Platinum Motorsport Treatment

Mercedes' AMG Division swapped out the old engine for an AMG 5.5-liter V8 biturbo engine with a max output of 544hp

No matter where in the world you are right now, the SUV that has the world’s elite enthralled is the new 2013 Mercedes G63 AMG. After it’s market launch in August, the G63 has quickly become one of the most sought after vehicles around the world.

In the last few years Kim Kardashian has received spent more than $1.2m on a variety of customised top of the range vehicles. But, it seems the 31-year-old reality tv star still has room in her garage for one more.  Treating herself to a brand new $150,000 2013 Mercedes G63 AMG, a cat so new at the time that it wasn’t even available.  TV star Kim bragged that she “got the first one!”.

After posting the first photos of her new black G63 AMG, she then had sent it off to Platinum Motorsport for a makeover.

2014 Mercedes GLA Spy Photos

Designed to compete with the BMW X1, the entry-level crossover features sporty styling influenced by the A-Class

Some very stealthy spies have managed to snap the latest photos of the highly anticipated 2014 Mercedes-Benz GLA.

Designed to go head to head with the BMW X1, the entry-level crossover features sporty styling which is heavily influenced by the A-Class. Notable highlights include a prominent grille, sweptback headlights and an increased ride height. There’s also roof rails and a tailgate-mounted spoiler.

As was previously reported, the GLA will ride on the MFA platform that currently underpins the A- and B-Class. Engine options will likely carryover from the aforementioned models, so expect petrol choices to include a 1.6-liter with 156 HP (115 kW) and a 2.0-liter with 211 HP (155 kW).  There will also likely be an AMG variant with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that develops approximately 335 HP (246 kW).
