2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK63 AMG Spy Photos

AMG trademarks on the SLK63 AMG include twin, oval, double exhaust pipes, an updated front bumper and performance disk brakes

The spies over at World Car Fans managed to grab a few photos of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK63 AMG doing a bit of testing near the Nürburgring. Still heavily camouflaged, clear signs of the massive engine within the SLK AMG are seen. AMG trademarks inclue: twin, oval, double exhaust pipes, an updated aggressive front bumper and high performance disk brakes.

Still unclear to any of us are the exact engine specs. There are currenlty three possible contenders: the first being a rumored 422 hp (315 kW / 428 PS) 5.5-liter V8, a 451 hp (336 kW / 457 PS) 6.2-liter V8, and a detuned 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 that normally produces 537 hp (400 kW / 544 PS) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque.

As we learn more or additional photos come in we will keep you bring them your way.

2012 Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG Spy Photos Emerge

The new V-8 engine produces more power and torque than AMG's current 6.2-liter NA mill, output peaks at 544 hp

Back in 2009, we heard that Mercedes-Benz and AMG had plans to replace its entire engine lineup with a new range of more fuel efficient direct-injected and turbocharged powerplants. A few months later we had official details on one of the most anticipated of the newcomers, a 5.5-liter V-8 that is to replace the 6.2-liter unit found in the current AMG lineup.

It was codenamed M157 and had plans to offer serious power. The new 5.5-liter engine is set to feature direct-injection and twin-turbocharging technologies, this to ensure it produces more power and torque than the current 6.2-liter naturally aspirated mill. Peak output stands at 544 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, however, an available Performance Pack sees output increased to 571 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque thanks to additional boost pressure from the turbos.

After news of the engines, spy photos began coming in. And this weekend, the next generation ML AMG SUV was spied again by Motor Authority. Though still heavily covered, we are able to now see the fabricated air intake pipes on the front bumper and air vents on the hood. Thanks to the latest photos, we also get a good look at the large disc brakes at the front and the new AMG wheels, also expected on the next-generation GL AMG SUV. A new bumper and quad exhaust exhaust can be found at the rear.

Almost certain to pick up the performance division’s new twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8, the speedy SUV will be called the ML63 AMG and will likely be launched soon after the standard version later this year. The new V-8 engine produces more power and torque than AMG’s current 6.2-liter naturally aspirated mill, with output peaking at 544 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. However, a likely available Performance Pack should see output increased to 571 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque thanks to additional boost pressure from the turbos.

Signs that this is most certainly the AMG variant are the oversized cross-drilled brakes and dual exhaust tailpipes. We can expect a slightly lowered ride height as well as a sports tuned suspension.

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Spied Testing

The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Saloon will offer up right around 510 horsepower

For those of you out there that need more than the current C63 AMG’s 451 horsepower engine, Mercedes is working on a C63 AMG Black Series that will most certainly fulfill your needs. The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series will offer up right around 510 horsepower, which for those of you counting is 29 more than the current C63 AMG equipped with P31 Development Package. With these figures, we expect the 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8 as the choice engine.

Some reports have come in that there could be a possibility of a 5.5 liter twin-turbo V8 offering 571 bhp. While we are leaning towards the 6.2 NA option, we will certainly keep you posted if we find out anything concrete.

The C63 AMG Black Series that was spotted testing in Sweden was sporting wider fenders and a new front spoiler, as well as an updated rear diffuser taking inspiration from Formula One. While still in development, the C63 AMG Black Sereies test car is using the prior front fascia not found on the new 2012 car, however w will likely see the updated headlamps and LED running lights as part of the new package.

The saloon version of the new Mercedes C63 AMG Black Series will be launched first, followed by a coupe soon after.

Thanks to Andrus and Gmotors for the tip.

Mercedes B-Class Prototype Spied Cold Weather Testing – Video

The prototypes show the evolutionary dimensions and proportions of the next B-class, one of five models planned for the MFA

It has been a couple of months since we brought you spy photos of the future Mercedes-Benz B-Class and thanks to our good friend Andrus, we have something better than photos. We have a video of the Mercedes B-Class B-Class prototype doing cold weather testing in Sweden. The all new Mercedes B-Class is expected to premiere in Frankfurt next year.

These hand-built B-Class prototypes show the evolutionary dimensions and proportions of the next B-class, one of five models that are planned for the new front-drive platform, referred to as MFA. The five passenger MPV will be the first model off the MFA, followed in 2012 by the new A-class, and then a junior SUV and a small saloon.

The MFA is a conventional unibody and replaces the expensive sandwich structure used on today’s A and B-classes. Because of the switch to conventional body engineering, Mercedes will drop its own front-drive engines, which were designed as part of the sandwich platform crash structure.

In their place will be a combination of existing in-house and small-capacity Renault engines. Over time the engine range will eventually include turbocharged 1.2-litre, 1.4-litre and 1.8-litre petrols, a 1.6-litre diesel from Renault and Mercedes’ 2.2-litre diesel.

Initially, however, sales will centre on larger-capacity Mercedes units, according to Stuttgart insiders. Gearboxes will be a six-speed manual and a six-speed dual-clutch auto in place of today’s CVT, both with stop-start.

The MFA is also being engineered to accommodate three alternative powertrains: plug-in electric (E-Cell), petrol-electric range-extender (E-Cell Plus) and fuel cell (F-Cell).

The basic dimensions of the new B-class are largely unchanged, as is the elevated driving position, but cabin space is better, thanks to a lower floor. There’s more flair in the styling, with tauter surfacing and more defined shoulder treatment, as previewed on the F800 Style concept at this year’s Geneva motor show.

The adoption of LED head and tail-lamps is an important exterior upgrade. The B-class also sticks with conventional doors all round, despite Mercedes experimenting with a sliding rear pair. Merc is also moving the B-class interior up a notch in quality with higher-grade plastics, trim, switchgear and controls from the C-class.

Redesigned Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sketch Leaked Online

The entry-level A-Class model has a single bar grille, sweptback headlights and an aggressive front fascia

A leak within Mercedes allegedly leaked a sketch of a redesigned A-Class hatchback. If the leaked image is truly a sketch of what is to become the future A-Class, we are truly impressed by the new styling.

The entry-level A-Class model, which will be in direct competition with the Audi A1, has a single bar grille, sweptback headlights and an aggressive front fascia. Also included on the A-Class is a panoramic sunroof, dynamic greenhouse and a tailgate-mounted spoiler.

Power under the hood will more than likely come from Renault engines, thanks to the Mercedes and Renault partnership. Engine option to be expected include a 1.2 liter, 1.4 liter and 1.8 liter petrol engines as well as a 1.6 liter diesel engine. We have also been following rumors that Mercedes-Benz will offer an AMG version of the redesigned A-Class with a turbocharged 2.0 liter petrol engine that offers 320 HP (239 kW / 324 PS). The AMG variant is also expected to feature all-wheel drive and a six-speed double-clutch transmission.

Watch for the redesigned Mercedes-Benz A-Class to debut at Auto Shanghai at the end of April.

2012 Mercedes-Benz GL SUV Spied Testing in Sweden

The latest and most revealing photos of the next-generation Mercedes GL-Class show the SUV winter testing in Sweden

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz GL SUV has been popping up in spy photos since July of last year and once again the disguised GL-Class was spotted. The latest and most revealing photos of the next-generation Mercedes GL-Class show the SUV winter testing in Sweden.

The front of the SUV is more easily seen than in the past allowing us to get a good look at the headlights and larger R-Class style grille. The rear is still heavily disguised leaving us with only guesses of what the back end will look like. As we previously mentioned, the next GL will be larger than the current model and will be offered with a wide range of petrol on turbo-diesel engines.

An AMG version is also planned that is expected to use the 537 bhp twin-turbo 5.5 litre V8. Additional engine options are likely to include a twin-turbo 4.6-liter V8 with 435 PS (320 kW / 429 HP) and a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel with up to 258 PS (190 kW / 255 HP).

Special thanks to Andrus and Gmotors for the tip.

2013 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Spied Winter Testing

Testing in -22 degree Swedish weather, the next generation S-Class once again took to the streets wrapped in camouflage

Testing in -22 degree Swedish weather, the next generation S-Class once again took to the streets wrapped in a black blanket of camouflage. While still heavily covered, we are able to see that the upcoming Mercedes-Benz S-Class Sedan looks to have smaller front lights with LED indicators that what we see on the current model. Hints of the F700 Concept can be seen in the S-Class Grille, having a more upright slope.

As we saw on previous spy photos, the new Mercedes S-Class appears to be longer in length and boasts a slightly bigger wheelbase.

In terms of power, look for the 2013 S-Class to note a range of more fuel efficient engines, with Mercedes’ new direct injection power plants providing a solid range to work with. The 2011 CL-Class should serve as a good starting point of what we can look forward to under the hood, with the addition of a new plug-in option based on the Vision S500 Plug-In Hybrid. Of course, look for both S63 AMG and S65 AMG models as well.

The new S-Class is expected to make its world debut later this year, with sales starting in early 2012.

A big thanks to Andrus and GMotors for the photos.

2012 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Spied Testing in Sweden

The upcoming 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class was spied testing in Sweden this week with limited body coverings

The upcoming 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class was spied testing in Sweden this week. Unlike past spy photos of the future roadster, the SL was spied without its traditional false body paneling.

Thanks to its limited coverings, the SL’s overall body shape is easily seen, with the next generation SL-Class appearing to note a wider base and a slightly taller bonnet than the current SL. Likely taking styling cues from the 2012 Mercedes CLS and SLS Supercar, the front of the SL will be the biggest change we’ll see.

GMotors spoke with the spy photographer that captured the new Mercedes, and he mentioned that the SL was testing together with an Aston Martin Vantage Roadster and a Jaguar XK, most likely for benchmarking purposes.

As for when we can expect the new roadster, the next-generation Mercedes SL will be launched later this year, with a world debut coming  at Frankfurt Motor Show.

To see more of the next-generation 2012 Mercedes SL-Class, hit the gallery below for a few pics, then head over to GMotors for the full spy photo gallery.  And a big thanks to Andrus for the tip.

2013 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Interior Drawings Show Possible Future

Images of what seem to be the interior of the future Mercedes-Benz A-Class have finally made their way online

Images of what seem to be the interior of the future Mercedes-Benz A-Class have finally made their way online. Mercedes’ new Front-wheel drive architecture (MFA) which can be configured to run on petrol, diesel, CNG, hybrid technology, fuel cells, etc. will be found on the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class and B-Class. Body styles expected to be seen include hatchbacks, sedans and small crossovers.

Both these entry level Mercedes are said to be more comfortable and futuristic.

Steeringnews took a comparitive look at the interior features of the Current A-Class and the 2013 Mercedes Benz A-Class features and this is what they saw.

  • Many elements of the cabin are smaller, perhaps less expensive copies of the E-Class’s elements
  • Seems like the Sat Nav will be easily detachable. The current model has it embedded in the center console.
  • AC vents resemble the propeller of an small aircraft. Current A-Class has square vents.
  • The CD/MP3/Radio player is crowded with buttons and controls. Volume control sensibly placed in the middle.
  • Three AC blowers at the dashboard’s center is a first for Mercedes Benz. They will enhance comfort of rear occupants.
  • The speedo and tacho dials are inspired from the E-Class.
  • Red background lighting is retained; intensity and usage remain to be seen.
  • Smaller 3-spoke steering wheel costs less and gels well with the cabin. U-shape opening on the lower spoke comes from Honda Jazz
  • Steering mounted audio/blue-tooth connectivity controls identical to current model. Call-answer button moved to the left hand side now.
  • Door pockets are pushed forward and will increase usability at the cost of leg room.
  • Square shape large speakers installed in the same location.
  • Two cup holders in a dumb bell formation instead of one but interestingly hand brake lever is absent between the seats.
  • Red stitching, on what we assume are leather seats, might be reserved for the sporty trims.

Based on the photos, Mercedes-Benz appears to be on the right track.  Big thanks to Jay for the tip.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe Spy Photos

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe was recently caught by spy photograhers sporting little camofuflage

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe was recently caught by spy photograhers sporting little camofuflage. The coupe’s front end looks to match the C-Class Sedan’s front end as seen in photos that were leaked last month. Other than modified side sills, a slightly larger rear spoiler, a four-tailpipe exhaust and AMG wheels, the profile is similar to that of the standard C-Class Coupe.

What truly makes the AMG variant stand apart from its slightly larger versions is the naturally-aspirated twin-turbo 5.5 liter V8 engine taken from the S63 AMG and the CLS63 AMG. The C-Class Sedan and Estate both use the 6.3 liter (6208cc) V8 engine with 451 hp (336 kW / 457 PS) and 443 lb-ft (600Nm) of torque. The coupes AMG engine is expected to deliver 422 hp (315 kW / 428 PS) and offer multi-cylinder deactivation for increased fuel efficiency.

The standard model is scheduled to debut at the Geneva Motor Show however there is no word when the C-Class AMG Coupe will be unveiled.

Special thans to Gregor and WCF for the photos.

Mercedes-Benz A-Class Future Model Captured

The Mercedes A-Class design model reveals that Mercedes has toned down the current car's MPV hatchback body style

The Auto Express spies have caputured photos of a 1:4-scale clay model of the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class ahead of the full-size version’s reveal later this year.

Despite its size, the design model reveals that Mercedes has toned down the current car’s innovative MPV hatchback body style. The model is clearly inspired by the Mercedes Blue Zero F-Cell concept, which can be seen full-size in green-gold and hidden by a cover.

The clay model shows that the radical LED headlights have been toned down from the concept for the new car, code named W176. The striking creases of the concept have been included – the top one which runs back along the top front of the front wheelarch, references the new CLS, while the larger, which rises from the sills to the taillights adds interesting shadows, helps to make the car look more dynamic.

The entry-level 1.2 liter A-Class engines will come from Mercedes’ new tie-up with Renault , and the 1.4-liter petrol and a 1.6-liter diesel will be getting engines from the French firm. The rest of the all-four-cylinder line-up will be sourced from Mercedes, with the 1.8-liter direct injection petrol and 2.1 liter diesel.

An AMG unit A22 is therefore in the pipeline, using a 270bhp. The A-Class Mercedes model will become the second to feature a seven-speed DSG gearbox as standard, after the SLS AMG.

Three and five-door models will come first, with a small SUV to take on the BMW X1 in the pipeline too. UK A-Class models will be front-wheel-drive, with 4Matic four-wheel-drive models being offered in other markets.

The new A-Class has been designed to appeal to younger buyers. It’ll be cheaper to build than before, thanks to the firm ditching the expensive and complex sandwich floor for a more conventional platform.

The new B-Class will share the same underpinnings, but will be aimed at buyers of the VW Touran and Ford C-MAX, and offered with five or seven seats.

Thanks to Kevin for alerting us to the photos at Auto Express.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Photos Leaked

Leaked photos of the facelifted 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Sedan and Estate

In December we brought you the first spy photos of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, and once again, photos of the beautiful beast have been leaked.

Thanks to the new photos, we are able to see the more aggressive front fascia and updated grille as well as LED fog lights and new headlights. With a clear view of the back end, we are able to see that very few updates have been made other than updated tail lights and a restyled bumper.

The leak at Mercedes was not kind enought to give us a peak at the interior; however, the photos leaked in December showed updates similar to the standard C-Class. The AMG version will receive an AMG steering wheel, with deep black trim on the center console along with a heavily supported seat.

As for the engine, the power will continue to be provided by a naturally-aspirated 6.3-liter (6208cc) V8 engine with 451 hp (336 kW / 457 PS) and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque. To improve fuel efficiency and performance, there is a seven-speed ‘SpeedShift’ MCT transmission. The sporty sedan will accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and average 12.0 L/100km or 19.6 mpg. The C63 AMG Estate goes from 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and consumes an average of 12.3 L/100km or 19.1 mpg US.

Spy Photos of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class testing alongside the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster

Spy Photographers have caught the 2012 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class testing with the Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster.

Though the Mercedes GL is heavily camouflaged, you are still able to see the larger grille, similar to that of the updated R-Class, bold front fascia and the overall larger design. The GL prototype shown in the spy photos is sporting AMG wheels and a high-performance braking system that may signify that it is a GL63 AMG but could just be a standard model with the AMG Performance Package.

Engine options are likely to include a twin-turbo 4.6-liter V8 with 435 PS (320 kW / 429 HP) and a 3.0-liter turbodiesel with up to 258 PS (190 kW / 255 HP). On the other hand, the GL63 AMG is expected to use a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 with 544 PS (400 kW / 537 HP) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque.

As for the SLS AMG Roadster, it will feature a 6.3-liter (6,208cc) V8 with 571 PS (420 kW / 563 HP) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque.

While the GL is does not have a scheduled unveiling, it is expected to be unveiled sometime next year with the SLS AMG Roadster is scheduled to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Thanks to Talon for the tip, head over to WorldCarFans for additional photos.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe First Official Photos

The first photos of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe have made their way onto the web

The first photos of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe have made their way onto the web.

The front of the new Mercedes C-Class matches that of the facelifted C-Class Sedan and Estate. Unique to the Coupe is that nearly everything is aft of the A-pillar. We prefer the pillarless design of other Mercedes-Benz Coupes and so we are slightly disappointed to see a B-pillar.

Likely to be carried over from the C-Class Sedan will be the engine options however we expect the coupe to eventually be offered as a Black Series with a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 with up to 571 PS (420 kW / 563 bhp) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque.

Thanks to Gregor and Autobilde.de for the tip.

The F700, which made its debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2007, is expected tobe a main influence on the new S-Class. Current reports show the 2012 S-Class to be wider and longer, but until we see a side by side we will withhold judgement.

Under the hood, Mercedes will offer new Modular V6 and V8 engine that feature direct injection and turbochargers. The plug-in hybrid version, that will accelerate 0- 60 mph in less than six seconds while averaging 60 mpg is the most aniticipated of the new vehicles.

2012 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Spied Testing with Light Camouflage

With less camoflauge this time around, we are able to get a better idea of the new SL models overall body shape

Every Couple of months we receive spy photos of the upcoming 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, and almost right on schedule we have another batch of spy photos with less camo than before.

With less camoflauge this time around, we are able to get a better idea of the new SL models overall body shape. New to the SL-Class, in order to reduce weith and improve agility, fuel economy and performance, will be the generous use of reinforced plastics and carbon fiber components. Earlier this year, Daimler announced a deal with Japanese textile maker Toray Industries in order to help develop materials specifically for use in the next-generation SL.

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL is assumed to be debuting sometime in 2011 with the 3.5 liter V6 and the new 4.6 liter twin-turbo V8 engines expected.
