California based tuning company, Renown Auto Style, has unveiled its Sidewinder program built specifically for the R230, the previous generation Mercedes-Benz SL-Class.
The Renown aero package, when installed on the R230 SL, results in a Roadster that is a full ten inches wider than the Mercedes SL 65 AMG Black Series and an inch wider than the massive Lamborghini Murcielago. The kit consists of a front bumper, hood, front fenders, side skirts, full rear quarter panels, trunk spats, rear bumper with diffuser and wheel well liners. The body parts are made using a vacuum bagged FRP cloth made with an epoxy resin system which is an aerospace-borrowed fabrication process.
A choice of wheels will also be on offer, including the company’s 20-inch RX10-C rims in a 10.5 and 13-inch widths.
There will be an optional upgrade including genuine Mercedes fog lights with a carbon fibre light bar, along with a front lip, side skirt vents, bumper vent, diffuser and rear wing, all constructed from carbon fibre when it goes on sale next year.
Abflug’s premium brand, the “GALLANT ABFLUG”, selected Mercedes-Benz as their primary OEM brand to tune in 2013. The Mercedes SL-Class is the first model of the “Platinum Series” developed as the flagship of the GALLANT ABFLUG line.
Abflug specializes in unique and original designs that are not beholden to the lineage of Mercedes. There was no preconceived notion of using Mercedes design themes as the base. The result is a completely unique look.
The concept was based purely on the unique sensitivity to form that says “There should be a car like this.”
This is meant as an extreme car. The concept is “ALL or NOTHING.”
Insisting on the thought that “It’s meaningless to go half way” Abflug resolves to build “the car that makes your heart race, simply by existing.”

MEC Design, know for unusually ostentatious styling – anyone remember the 2FACE Bodykit for the CL-Class – is at it again. This time MEC Design tuned the old Mercedes SL (Type R230). Their latest design for the Mercedes SL is very in your face and daring, definitely pushing the envelope. Perhaps MEC wanted to sent the no longer produced R230 off in style, and they did just that.
The kit comes with a multitude of options and you can pick and choose what details you’d like installed according to your taste. You of course get the standard bumpers and wide wheel arches, but you get to choose the front spoiler; big lips or small, carbon finish or not. It’s totally up to you.
There are also new side openings, which again you can have in carbon or not. Around at the back, you get MEC’s diffuser, optionally in carbon, with MEC exhaust’s tailpipes. They also offer a diffuser that matches AMG’s stock tailpipes. Another feature here is lateral fins right and left. A rear spoiler is also available, and yes, it can be had in exposed carbon fiber.
MEC will only create 15 units of this kit, which additionally offers a unique wheel/tire combination for, 11×20 with 285/25 ZR 20 + 14×21 with 375/20 ZR 20.

German aftermarket specialist, PP Exclusive, revealed their tuning package for Mercedes-Benz SL-Class (R230). PP Exclusive modifications consist mainly of interior and exterior style changes without adding any performance enhancements to the SL63 AMG.
The PP Exclusive SL-Class rides on massive 11×20 inch front wheels (with 3.5 inch outer rims) and the 13×20 inch back wheels (with 5 inch outer rim) fitted with 255/30R20 and 305/25R20 Dunlop tires.
When you combine the wheel set and an electronic module that lowers the SL63 AMG’s suspension by up to 100mm, you have a roadster that rides incredibly low to the ground. In order to accommodate, the wheel arches were extended with sheet metal that was grafted onto the existing arches in order to widen them 25 mm in the front and 55 mm in the back.
Exterior updates on the PP Exclusive SL include a stainless steel exhaust system with catalytic converter and four oval-shaped tailpipes.
On the inside, both the passenger and driver will enjoy Alcantara upholstery, a sports steering wheel, and various other interior styling updates.

German tuner Prior-Design recently released their PD Widebody Styling Kit for the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class (R230). The inspiration behind their latest creation was the superlative Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series, with main changes serving to add a widened, more aggressive stance to the model.
As described by Prior-Design, the new widebody kit includes new overwhelming fenders, futuristic facelift headlights, front spoiler with large air inlets, and a perfectly round rear bumper with integrated diffuser to top it off. The PD Widebody kit is available either inslight carbon or full carbon.
Complimenting Pior-Design’s SL styling kit, a wide wheel and tire combination is available as a complete set in the following sizes: PD1 wheels (three-piece stainless steel outer bed, black finish) in 10×20 inch with 265/30R20 (front axle) and 12×20 inch with 305/25R20 (rear axle).
And if that wasn’t enough, the German tuner made it possible to lower the car either mechanically or electronically (with integrated Airmatic).
