Carbon-Fibre Overload: Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing

Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing presented the "41’ AMG Carbon Edition" at the Miami International Boat Show

Today Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing presented the “41’ AMG Carbon Edition” at the Miami International Boat Show. As the eleventh jointly developed boat in this longstanding partnership, this special edition sets new standards in terms of performance, handling and versatility. Its systematic lightweight construction and design are inspired by the current Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-door Coupé (combined fuel consumption: 11.3 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 257 g/km).

The 41’ AMG Carbon Edition is powered by four Mercury Racing 400R outboard engines.

The stated figures were determined in accordance with the prescribed measuring method. These are the “NEDC CO2 figures” according to Art. 2 No. 1 Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/1153. The fuel consumption figures were calculated based on these figures. Further information on the vehicles on offer, including the WLTP values, can be found for each country at www.mercedes-benz.com

Robust, lightweight carbon-fibre components are installed in the 41’ AMG Carbon Edition and the boat features an optimized centre of gravity for ideal handling. “For twelve years we have been exploring the limits of performance on land and at sea with Cigarette Racing. Inspired by the incredible new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-door Coupé, the 41’ AMG Carbon Edition impresses with its extremely high performance and its expressive design”, says Tobias Moers, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

To achieve dynamic performance coupled with versatility, the Cigarette Racing team engineers followed a single design aim in their development work: weight reduction. Compared to the GT R Performance boat of 2017, the engineers were able to save around 250 kilograms of weight thanks to an optimised mixture of lightweight materials which includes carbon-fibre. The hull of the 41-foot (12.5-metre) long vessel uses innovative sandwich construction with carbon-fibre structural laminates on both sides of a lightweight core. This allows a more rigid structure of considerably reduced weight. Furthermore, the deck, rudder, roof lining and hardtop of the 41’ AMG Carbon Edition are also made of carbon-fibre. This lightweight construction also ensured it was possible to lower the boat’s centre of gravity, improving the handling during high speed manoeuvres.

High performance on water

The 41’ AMG Carbon Edition is powered by four Mercury Racing 400R outboard engines. Together they generate 1177 kW (1,600 hp), giving the boat a top speed of 142 km/h. These are extraordinary performance figures in this boat class, which combines the user-friendliness of outboard engines with a spacious interior. It also allows larger passenger groups to be accommodated in luxurious surroundings. For example, the 41’ AMG Carbon Edition is able to carry eight passengers at maximum speed or up to 20 passengers at cruising speed. Thanks to lightweight construction and power, the 41’ AMG Carbon Edition offers an attractive combination of performance, excellent handling and versatility, attributes it shares with the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-door Coupé.

The design of the 41’ AMG Carbon Edition

“The new Cigarette Racing boat underlines the current brand aesthetics of Mercedes-AMG, which makes the passion for aesthetics and power noticeable. The strong brand graphics becomes the symbol of this experience”, says Gorden Wagener,

Chief Design Officer Daimler AG. “Thus, the Performance Luxury by Mercedes-AMG can also be experienced at sea.”

The striking design of the boat is the result of close collaboration between the Cigarette Racing Team and Mercedes-Benz designers, who developed the paint finish and the graphic design of the hull. The hull is painted in designo graphite grey magno, a finish developed exclusively for the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Coupé. The hallmark graphic design derives its special appeal from the contrast between matte and high-gloss areas interacting with bright red.

These central design features are continued in the interior of the boat, where they create an unmistakable Mercedes-AMG interior. For example, the tailored seat upholstery is colour-coordinated with the exterior and seam patterns exclusively designed for this special edition. Additionally, the interior features innovative “Cigarette Cool” upholstery which is able to reflect up to 30 percent of the absorbed heat. This technology made a darker colour choice possible in the interior, while retaining a comfortable and luxurious atmosphere. The cockpit is equipped with three multifunctional 17-inch full-HD Garmin displays with touchscreens. The displays show GPS coordinates, navigation charts and engine/operating data. They can also be used to control the onboard ambient lighting.

The land-based role model: the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Coupé

The land-based role model for the Cigarette Racing 41’ AMG Carbon Edition is the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Coupé, which is also prominently displayed at the Miami International Boat Show. The Coupé is the third vehicle and the first four-door sports car to be developed entirely in-house by the performance brand. Technical highlights of the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Coupé include active rear-wheel steering for great agility and stability, an electronically extendable rear spoiler for optimum downforce at different speeds, an electronic rear axle with limited slip differential and a specially adapted AMG Ride Control sport suspension based on Air Body Control.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 is powered by a hand-built AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine developing 424 kW (577 hp) and 800 Nm of peak torque; the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S develops 463 kW (630 hp) and a peak torque of 900 Nm. This addition to the AMG GT family opens the segment up to customers seeking a vehicle which offers the impressive Driving Performance of the two-door AMG GT sports car combined with day-to-day suitability and ample space for four passengers.

Representing the ninth special edition boat created from this partnership, the Cigarette Racing 515 Project ONE is 51’ 5” in length and features an increased beam of 9’ 6” which allows 6 passengers the ability to be seated comfortably. The new boat offers an increase of over 30% greater surface area when compared to the existing 50’ Marauder, while still providing similar performance and an impressive 140 mph top speed through the use of a highly optimized composite structure consisting of carbon-fiber, Kevlar® and E-glass. Cigarette’s signature aggressive shoulders, which rise in the rear of the boat, also allow the integration of a large sun cushion on the flat exposed-weave carbon fiber hatch – despite the tall engines beneath – for maximum comfort and versatility when stationary.

The boat’s deck is constructed completely of carbon fiber to reduce the total weight and lower the center mass of the boat. Carbon Fiber is also used for the inner structural laminate of the hull, forward bulkheads, cabin liner, engine hatch, consoles and storage hatches to significantly reduce the overall weight. For example, the air intakes, which are over 7ft long and 14inches wide, weigh only 4.4lbs. Overall, the weight optimized Cigarette Racing 515 Project ONE is over ten feet longer than the Cigarette Racing 41’ SD GT3 but it weighs over 5,000-lbs less. Kevlar® has also been used for tabbing bulkheads and around the edges of framing for its extreme toughness properties.

“For 11 years, Cigarette Racing has been our trusted partner that has allowed us to extend our likeminded core performance principles from the land to the water,” said Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “By directly translating Formula 1 technology from the track to the street, the Mercedes-AMG Project ONE is our most ambitious and awe-inspiring vehicle yet. It is incredible to see our vision reimagined for the water in such an impressive and highly compelling form.”

The Cigarette Racing Team worked in close cooperation with Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer for Daimler AG, to design the hallmark characteristics of the boat. The distinctive matte black and silver paint and special badging instantly evoke the unmistakable Mercedes-AMG Project ONE. This attention to every detail extends inside the cabin with extensive use of Dinamica and seatbacks constructed of exposed-weave carbon fiber.

Miami’s Never Seen Anything Like This Before

Mercedes-AMG GT3 inspires most powerful “Open Performance” boat ever produced by the Cigarette Racing Team

Two legendary brands united once again at the Miami International Boat Show. Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing joined forces for the sixth consecutive year to present the Cigarette Racing Team 41’ SD GT3 boat inspired by the Mercedes-AMG GT3 racecar. As the most powerful “open performance” boat ever produced by the Cigarette Racing Team, the 41’ SD GT3 marries the characteristic styling and thoroughbred motorsport technology of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 that was on display alongside it.

Cutting-edge racing technology, awe inspiring performance and stunning design are all hallmarks of the Mercedes-AMG brand. Developed to comply with the FIA’s GT3 race rules, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 competes in the world’s most hotly contested customer race series. The GT3 racecar is based on the Mercedes-AMG GT S, which was launched in spring 2015 and established a new benchmark in the segment. The Mercedes-AMG GT S provided the ideal prerequisites for the GT3 racing model with its low centre of gravity, perfect distribution of weight and wide track width. This layout guarantees precise cornering properties, high lateral acceleration, first-class agility, a high level of traction and low inertia when having to change direction fast. On the different race circuits, all of these attributes give the driver the advantages necessary to achieve top placements.

Powerful acceleration in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 is ensured by the seasoned and now further enhanced AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine taken from the SLS AMG GT3. User-friendly technology, excellent reliability, long maintenance intervals and low running costs made this high-revving, naturally aspirated engine the ideal choice for the new AMG customer sports model. Like the 7-Speed AMG SpeedShift Dual Clutch transmission in the GT S, the six-speed sequential racing gearbox in the GT3 is mounted in a transaxle configuration on the rear axle, thereby facilitating optimum weight distribution. The two high-performance models also have double-wishbone suspension that is made almost entirely from aluminium in common. These solutions once again demonstrate how closely linked regular production technology and racing technology are at AMG.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Mercedes-Benz performance brand again this year to design our fastest open performance center console powerboat yet,” said Skip Braver, President and CEO of Cigarette Racing Team. “The 41’ SD GT3 embodies our brand’s commitment to innovation and craftsmanship and once again shows the strength of our collaboration with Mercedes-AMG.”

Mercedes SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive Cigarette Boat Revealed

The 38 foot long Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept boat has max speed of 100mph & painted in AMG Electricbeam magno

It was just over a week ago that we revealed to you the Cigarette 42 Huntress inspired by the Mercedes G63 AMG, and while we were certain at the time that it couldn’t get any better than that pair, today Mercedes AMG revealed their latest collaboration with Cigarette racing. This may be the best pairing yet – the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive and the Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept Boat (a match made in heaven for electric lovers).

Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing are launching the latest development of their cooperation at the Miami International Boat Show that kicked off today. Numerous components from the SLS AMG Coupè Electric Drive have been integrated in the design of the “Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept” engineering design. The high-performance drive fitted in the electric super sports car makes the off-shore powerboat the world’s most powerful and fastest electrically driven motor boat. With an output of 1656 Kilowatts (2,220hp) and a maximum torque of 3000 Newton metres (2,213 ft-lb,) the “Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept” is a fascinating new development.

SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive Cigarette Boat

SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive Cigarette Boat

Inspiration for the drive was very close to home for the US-American company, with the SLS AMG Coupè Electric Drive being the world’s most powerful and fastest electrically driven series production vehicle in America. The technology, performance and design of the Cigarette powerboat is closely based on the electric super sports vehicle made in Affalterbach, Germany. This joint project underlines the technology leadership earned by Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing.

The 38 foot (11.6 metre) long “Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept” powerboat is finished in “AMG Electricbeam magno” – the matt chrome paintwork exclusively reserved for the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive. Proudly wearing AMG logos on the side, the powerboat is a clear sign of the alliance between the Miami-based boat manufacturer and Mercedes-AMG GmbH from Affalterbach, Germany. The design features also exemplify the transfer of technology from the gullwing to the powerboat. Mercedes-AMG uses two drive units, each featuring six independent electric motors. At the rear of the boat, each drive unit has its own transmission, one on the left and one on the right. A glance at the engine data proves that the boat is fitted with the twelve compact, liquid-cooled permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors which are the signature piece of the SLS AMG Coupè Electric Drive: each electric motor delivers 138 kW and 250 Newton metres. The maximum output of 1656 Kilowatts and maximum torque of 3000 Newton metres combine to reach a staggering top speed of over 160 km/h making this locally emission-free “Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept” the world’s fastest electrically driven powerboat. In keeping with the SLS AMG Coupè Electric Drive, the motors and the battery are ideally placed in the “Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept”. The low centre of gravity and optimum weight distribution ensure sublime handling characteristics during more dynamic changes of direction.

THE CIGARETTE 42′ HUNTRESS INSPIRED BY THE MERCEDES-BENZ G 63 AMG – COMMANDS CULT STATUS

On Thursday, February 14 at the Miami International Boat Show, the world will be introduced to the third collaboration between the Cigarette Racing Team and Mercedes-AMG in the form of the 42′ Huntress Inspired by the G 63 AMG. (Booth B-23 at the Miami Beach Convention Center)

Uninhibited performance is a phrase often claimed, but in reality rarely achieved. However in the case of two leaders in their respective domains: Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing Team have reached new heights with the 42′ Huntress inspired by the G 63 AMG. The Cigarette 42′ Huntress is designed with the same stringent construction that defines their renowned offshore performance boats – extremely durable superstructure, awe inspiring performance, and race-rigging – upon which its roots were built. The center console nature and overall capacity of the huntress allows this baked-in Cigarette performance to be expressed on glassy seas or in rough water environments that would make other performance boats cringe. All whilst providing space for enjoyment of a sizeable group of friends or family.

The AMG G-Class, often referred to as the G-Wagen (short for Geländewagen – “cross-country vehicle”), remains true to its heritage as being a vehicle that can be used primarily in tough off-road terrain: three electrically controlled 100-percent differential locks, ladder frame and rigid axle are characteristics that positions it in a class of its own. The injection of a V8 biturbo, hand built AMG engine with 536 hp and massive 560 ft-lbs of torque places the G-Wagen into a performer in all environments and with a bespoke interior, a true iconic luxury off-roader.
