Celebrating 25 Years of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

In 1995 Mercedes-Benz presented a newly developed van that quickly advanced

In 1995 Mercedes-Benz presented a newly developed van that quickly advanced to become the reference model, characterising an entire vehicle category. From the start of its development it was clear that both active and passive safety would be central components of the vehicle concept. Since then the Sprinter has maintained its pioneer role in this discipline without interruption. This starts with its handling which is very similar to that of a passenger car and through to its “hard” technology such as ABS and airbags as well as the latest generation of driving assistance systems. Thus, now in its third generation, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter continues to consistently raise the bar for other vans.

1995: even the very first Sprinter has extensive safety technology

In 1995 no other van offers more safety features. The package includes disk brakes all-around, an ABS anti-lock braking system as standard, automatic brake differential, a driver airbag on request, three-point seat belts adjustable in height and seat belt buckles attached to the seat. The comfortable suspension and passenger-car-like handling are also features that must not be underestimated. That’s because: drivers who are more relaxed, remain alert for longer and thus drive more safely. This is the basis for the Sprinter’s reputation as an epitome of safety.

And development doesn’t stop there: in 2000 the Sprinter is given more powerful headlamps as part of an extensive facelift. In addition to active safety, Mercedes-Benz continues to advance passive safety too. The driver airbag is now included in the standard equipment while a co-driver airbag is optionally available. The double airbag is particularly large and also protects the passenger occupying the inner seat of a co-driver bench seat. The driver cockpit is also redesigned to maintain the driver’s level of fitness: the cockpit now has the appearance of a passenger car. The gear stick is redesigned as a control lever and relocated to an easy-to-reach height; this further improves ergonomics – and in turn safety. The next safety feature is introduced in 2001: windowbags are now also available.

In 2002 the Sprinter sets the benchmark yet again with ESP® installed as standard

In 2002 the Sprinter is further refined. New features include a more powerful brake booster and the Electronic Stability Program ESP®, installed as standard initially in the closed variant of the Sprinter up to a gross vehicle mass of 3.5 t. ESP® is a revolution in the safety technology of vans because it can actively assist the driver in critical driving situations. Two years later ESP® is included in the standard equipment of all Sprinter chassis up to a gross vehicle mass of 3.5 t. A measure with results: in the following years the statistics show accidents caused by the vehicle “leaving the roadway” to be drastically reduced. Just one year later, the “Van Training on Tour” complements technical aspects with driver instruction.

The second generation Sprinter from 2006: safer than ever with ADAPTIVE ESP®

Consistent introduction of innovations continues; this is emphasised by the completely new second-generation Mercedes-Benz Sprinter in 2006. This new generation does not only boast a significantly increased cargo capacity – a GFRP transverse leaf spring at the front axle and new parabolic springs at the rear axle, soon complemented by an optional air suspension, improve both comfort and safety. The Sprinter is now even more comfortable which is particularly apparent in the driver’s level of fitness on long-distance journeys.

As ADAPTIVE ESP® the system now adapts to various loading conditions thanks to mass and centre of gravity detection and thus control is more precise and specific in critical driving situations. The same applies to adapting to different bodies. ESP® is optionally enhanced with start-off assist: it prevents the vehicle inadvertently rolling backwards as it pulls away on an incline.

Additional adjustable wide-angle mirror glass in the new outside mirrors provides the best possible view to the rear and static curve lights are also available on request. A rain and light sensor takes care of switching the windscreen wipers and driving lights on and off. All Sprinter vans have 16-inch wheels, the pre-requirement for brake disks with a large diameter and the corresponding performance. As a preventive measure the Sprinter is also available with thoraxbags in addition to the front airbags.

In 2009 ESP® receives another function; trailer stabilisation. Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz introduces adaptive brake lights. Thanks to heated outside mirrors the wide-angle mirror glass is now demisted and the front fog lamps are relocated to a lower position to better illuminate the road. The optional automatic transmission now includes start-off assist.

2013: new Sprinter with revolutionary driver assistance systems

In the summer of 2013 the new Sprinter also brings new driver assistance systems – some of them world premieres for vans. Crosswind Assist celebrates its debut for example. It almost completely compensates the effects of gusts of wind on the vehicle as far as physically possible. Standard equipment on all closed variants, it is soon available for Sprinters with separate bodies such as box bodies or camper vans.

COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST comprises the functions distance warning, adaptive braking assistance system Brake Assist Pro and a further warning stage in the event of an acute risk of collision. Blind Spot Assist warns drivers of vehicles in the neighbouring lane or in the so-called blind spot when changing lanes. Lane Keeping Assist warns the driver about leaving the lane inadvertently by monitoring the roadway ahead and its markings. High Beam Assist ensures that the lane is optimally illuminated with situative activation and deactivation of the main beam headlamps. As a result, dazzling approaching vehicles or those driving ahead is almost impossible.

With these driver assistance systems Mercedes-Benz underscores its pioneering role in safety technology for vans. A decisive advantage of the new driver assistance systems: they help to avoid accidents. This also applies to measures involving the suspension: lowering the suspension by 30 mm increases vehicle dynamics and steering precision perceptibly thanks to a lower centre of gravity. The safe Sprinter now drives even more safely.

2018: the third generation of the Sprinter further increases safety

Connectivity and diversity are the focus of the third generation of Sprinters. However with regard to the safety features, Mercedes-Benz Vans also raises the vehicle to a new level. Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, for example, can relieve the driver by automatically maintaining sufficient distance to the vehicle ahead from a speed of 20 km/h. A radar sensor in the front bumper determines the data required for this. The system detects lane changes or braking manoeuvres of other road users and can react immediately – in an emergency the active distance warning assistance system can brake the Sprinter to a standstill.

Other driver assistance systems introduced to the new Sprinter include a reversing camera with an image in the inside rearview mirror and a modern parking package with 360-degree all-around visibility. A rain sensor and wipers with integrated Wet Wiper System provide for optimum visibility even when the windscreen is being cleaned.

Prevention is better than cure

Since 1995 the following applies for the development of the Sprinter: prevention is better than cure; accident prevention is better than mitigating their consequences. The Sprinter benefits both from its passenger-car-like driving style and the development of driver assistance systems for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. Their safety technology has also been introduced to the Sprinter – adapted to the special requirements and conditions of vans.

Why You Should Own a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van – Five Reasons

You can load most anything in the back, and still carry passengers

Forbes writer, Jason Fogelson may never need a van like the 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500XD Crew Van, but during his weeklong test-drive, he found myself thinking about why he should own a Sprinter and listed his top five reasons why to buy one.  You can also view his past test-drives here.

1.     You can load most anything in the back, and still carry passengers. I drove a Sprinter with a 144-inch wheelbase, and it can hold 261.3 cubic feet of cargo. I’m six feet two inches tall, and I can comfortably stand in the back. The back doors open a full 180 degrees, and the door opening is over 72 inches tall and 60 inches wide. The floor is over 70 inches wide at its broadest points. I imagined stuffing a room full of furniture in the back, or a pair of motorcycles, or a pile of mattresses – all behind the removable second row bench seat.

2.     It’s easy to drive, and even fun. My test car came with a 3.0-liter V6 turbo-diesel engine (188 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque) with a seven-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. While those figures may seem modest, the Sprinter is sprightly off the line, and has no problem keeping up with traffic. The high seating position provides a great view of the road ahead, and there’s little chance that anyone’s going to miss seeing a Sprinter in traffic.

3.     The Crew Van is a blank slate, perfect for upfitting. If you’ve got an idea for how to use a van, it’s likely that the Mercedes-Benz parts and accessories team has an assortment of workbenches, shelving and other modular parts designed to work inside the Sprinter to turn it into a mobile workshop, store or even kitchen.

4.     Available 4×4 can turn the Sprinter into a go-anywhere base of operations. A high- and low-range 4×4 transfer case (part of a $7,800 package) can even be fitted on 3500 models like the one I test drove, which came with dual rear wheels. Just image the terrain you could cover.

5.     Maybe the best (and worst) reason of all to buy a Sprinter: It just looks cool. There’s something about the way the 4×4 Sprinter sits that just says “I’m ready for anything.” And that’s cool, and that inspires my fantasies about all the great things I could accomplish, if only I owned a Sprinter.

The Sprinter comes in multiple configurations, starting at $33,790 for a Cargo Van. If you’re really ambitious, you could start with a Cab Chassis (starting at $39,790), and go the full custom route to create the exact vehicle you want. For me, the 3500XD Crew Van that I test drove hit the sweet spot, usable for up to five occupants, but still with enough configurable open space in the rear to be really useful. With an as-tested price of $71,496, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500XD Crew Van will not an impulse buy for me – but it is a thoroughly capable, attractive and inspirational vehicle. If it fits your needs, I’d recommend checking it out.

The edition model features the elegant paint colour already familiar from certain Mercedes-Benz passenger car models – including the C-Class and E-Class. However, with the Marco Polo HORIZON it comes as standard in combination with the Night Package. The Night Package further enhances the exterior with black design highlights (for more information on the Night Package, see page 4). Additional extras – including, for example, the AMG Line – are available for the Limited Edition “Designo hyacinth red metallic” on request.

The Limited Edition “Designo hyacinth red metallic” in conjunction with the Night Package will also be available for the Marco Polo and the V-Class from September 2017.

Marco Polo HORIZON EDITION – sporty, comfortable, functional and attractively priced

The Exterior Sports Package, together with metallic paintwork, 17-inch alloy wheels and tinted rear windows, give the vehicle a dynamic appearance. Furthermore, the edition model comes with a separately opening rear window as standard. This makes loading and unloading easier in two respects: on the one hand, it allows a second loading level; on the other – particularly in tight parking spaces – there is no need to open the large liftgate. The Marco Polo HORIZON EDITION also offers increased comfort. The 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission ensures that the vehicle handles nicely. The Parking Package with reversing camera and Active Parking Assist makes parking and reversing in tight spaces much easier. TEMPMATIC air-conditioning ensures that a pleasant temperature is always maintained – including in the rear – and infotainment comes from the on-board Audio 20 CD multimedia system featuring intuitive touchpad control.

New optional equipment features – more scope for individuality

From September 2017, a series of new optional equipment features for the Marco Polo HORIZON and Marco Polo will offer customers even more opportunity to individualise their vehicles with regard to both style and functionality.

A special highlight is the pop-up roof in black. The pop-up roof is also available on request in the same colour as the vehicle. In conjunction with the AVANTGARDE Exterior Sports Package or the AMG Line the front bumper trim is also painted in black.

Interior Design Package, available for the Marco Polo HORIZON and Marco Polo: Lugano leather seats in black, or in silk beige as an option in the Marco Polo, give the vehicle interior a particularly luxurious feel. This impression is enhanced by a choice of trim finishes including piano lacquer or wood look. A leather steering wheel and brushed aluminium sports pedals round off the Interior Design Package.

Interior Premium Package, available for the Marco Polo HORIZON: Customers opting for the Interior Premium Package for the Marco Polo HORIZON can choose from three colours of high-quality nappa leather: black, in conjunction with a grey roof liner, or either marron or silk beige with a roof liner in porcelain. A leather-covered instrument panel with decorative stitching and ambient lighting in the cockpit and rear complement the high-end interior.

New seating configuration, available for the Marco Polo HORIZON: The Marco Polo HORIZON is available with a variety of different seating configurations. Hitherto these have ranged from the standard five-seater with three-seater bench/berth in the rear and two swivelling front seats to the option of a seven-seater with three-seater bench/berth in the second rear row and two additional single seats in the first rear row. These are now supplemented by the new option of four single comfort seats in the rear.

Mercedes-Benz Vans bolsters the Marco Polo dealer network and taps into new markets

Beyond the extension of the product portfolio in regard to the Marco Polo HORIZON and Marco Polo, Mercedes-Benz Vans also reinforces its camper van expertise in the dealer network and expands its presence in the international camper van market in 2017.

In January 2016 Mercedes-Benz Vans introduced a specialist camper van service at selected dealerships. At the end of 2016 there were 57 sites with special Marco Polo expertise in Germany. This year will see the addition of seven more, with plans to roll out the scheme across other European countries. Along with specially trained sales staff – the so called Marco Polo Experts – the specialist dealerships have Marco Polo models in their showrooms for demonstration purposes and test drives.

The Marco Polo family also adds its own contribution to the “Mercedes-Benz Vans goes global” growth strategy this year. A right-hand-drive Marco Polo has been launched in Great Britain in May 2017. The Marco Polo ACTIVITY celebrated its market premiere in Australia in June 2017. This is the first time a Marco Polo model from the current model series is available overseas.

Entire Marco Polo family with TÜV test mark for “certified occupant protection”

In an accident scenario defined by TÜV Rhineland in 2015, the Marco Polo was the first camper van to have proven in a crash test, over and beyond the conventional testing regime, how well the occupants are protected from the vehicle’s load as well as the stability of the vehicle’s fitted furniture. In this test, the vehicle structure absorbed all the forces generated in a collision at a speed of 56 km/h without any particular deformation in the interior. The built-in units remained intact and the furniture doors closed. In 2017 the Marco Polo HORIZON and the Marco Polo ACTIVITY have likewise received the “certified occupant protection” test mark from TÜV Rhineland.

Further camper van body and conversion solutions based on Mercedes-Benz vans

From the big Sprinter and compact Vito and V-Class to the small Citan, the entire Mercedes-Benz Vans range is a big hit among leading camper van body and conversion specialists.

At this year’s Caravan Salon Düsseldorf, Mercedes-Benz Vans is showcasing a Grand Canyon S from the body manufacturer specialist HYMER and an Independent from CS-Reisemobile on its stand, both based on a Sprinter with all-wheel drive. With the Sprinter 4×4 as a platform vehicle these camper vans can cope easily on unsurfaced or snow-covered roads. Moreover, the brand bearing the three-pointed star shows how the Citan can be transformed into a fully fledged camper van in next to no time with a conversion solution featuring a sleeping module/kitchen module from VanEssa. The sleeping module as well as the kitchen module can be fastened to the existing lashing eyelets in the luggage compartment in a matter of minutes – and once the holiday is over, the camper van can just as quickly be converted back into a normal city car for everyday use.

In Germany, Even the Firetrucks are Mercedes

When your life is on the line, don't you wish your town's firetrucks and ambulances were powered by Mercedes

When your life is on the line, don’t you wish your town’s firetrucks and ambulances were powered by Mercedes. Often, for fire-fighters, every second counts, Making vehicles on which the emergency services can rely one hundred percent all the more important. “Six of the best” with all it takes to make this possible recently went into service in the fire departments at the Mercedes-Benz plants in Sindelfingen and Stuttgart-Untertürkheim. Each plant has three new Mercedes-Benz Antos trucks rated at 315 kW (428 hp), which have been transformed into fire-fighting vehicles by bodybuilder Rosenbauer.

New trucks for plant fire departments are technological forerunners

New trucks for plant fire departments are technological forerunners

Of particular note here is that the new fire engines at the plants are technological forerunners. These first fire-fighting vehicles built on the Antos chassis meet the strict Euro VI emissions standard, making them environmentally friendly. The high-performance fire-fighting vehicles are indispensable at the Mercedes-Benz plants. On average in the last year, the fire departments at the Sindelfingen and Stuttgart-Untertürkheim plants were called out several times per day.

The vehicle base is a Mercedes-Benz Antos, which is equipped with a six-cylinder common-rail diesel engine as standard and meets the requirements of the strict Euro VI emissions standard thanks to exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) system with oxidation catalytic converter and diesel particulate filter. The engines in the vehicles used by the Mercedes-Benz plant fire departments have an output of 315 kW (428 hp) at 1800 rpm, with the power being sent to the wheels via an automated 12-speed Mercedes Powershift transmission. Each truck has a water tank capacity of 2500 litres, a foam agent tank capacity of 200 litres and water cannon that pumps up to 2400 litres per minute.

“The Sprinter Cab Chassis is the most capable heavy-duty vehicle in its segment,” said Bernie Glaser, Vice President of Mercedes-Benz Vans in the USA. “The Sprinter Extreme concept has super-strength, unlimited hard-working capability and an aggressive design. Unlike most concepts, the foundation for the Sprinter Extreme can be ordered at a Mercedes or Freightliner dealership today with the help of our MasterUpfitter program.”

Long-time Mercedes-Benz customizer RENNtech added numerous touches to the Sprinter Cab Chassis in order to bring it from mild to wild. Starting at the front, a custom roof rack was built to support six forward-facing lights while additional spotlights are positioned on the sides of the roof rack. A custom brush guard complete with additional fog lights and a powerful winch are located beneath the Sprinter 3500’s front bumper.

A suspension lift package raises the Sprinter Extreme above six G-Class-inspired beadlock wheels and aggressive off-road tires. Custom rear fenders were fabricated to provide additional clearance for suspension travel and tire clearance. Finishing off the Sprinter Extreme’s look is an eye-catching vinyl wrap and chrome exhaust stacks situated on either side of the cab.

Mercedes-Benz Becomes Synonymous with Camping

For the second time in a row, the magazine's readers put the Marco Polo in first place in the "Compact Camper Van"

At the International Exhibition for Caravanning, Motoring and Tourism (CMT) 2016, Mercedes-Benz Vans is presenting a range of new features to enhance the appeal of their popular vehicles for further target groups. From spring 2016, the new AMG Line for the V-Class will also be available for the Marco Polo. The striking AMG bodystyling with redesigned front and rear aprons, 19-inch AMG light-alloy wheels and expressive spoiler lip brings a hitherto unknown element of sporty design to the compact camper van segment. The Marco Polo AMG Line can be ordered from February. Another novelty: the Marco Polo is available with customised ex-factory solutions for people with restricted mobility. These solutions range from a knob for turning the steering wheel and hand-control units for accelerating and braking through to the relocation of the accelerator pedal. Mercedes-Benz Vans is also continuing to extend its efforts in the market for individual camper van bodies. The rear-opening SCA pop-up roof is now available for both the V-Class and Vito. It opens up new opportunities for converters and bodybuilders to create individualised layouts.

“The new features allow us to set individual highlights and reach out to further target groups”, according to Jochen Dimter, Head of Sales Mercedes-Benz Vans Germany. “The new Marco Polo was successfully launched last year and has significantly exceeded our expectations. The same is also true of the V-Class and Vito, which continue to grow in popularity as base vehicles for individual conversions and bodies. Over the course of 2015 a further twelve conversion and bodybuilder companies around the world have opted to use the V-Class or Vito – the presence of our midsize vans in the camper van market has never been as varied or as international in scope as it is today.”

The new Marco Polo AMG Line – sporty and individual

The Marco Polo AMG Line exudes sportiness and dynamism at first sight. The expressive bodystyling elements of the performance and sports car brand Mercedes-AMG reinforce the progressive design of the compact camper van. The front apron with its prominent air inlets, diamond-pattern mesh and chrome trim, the expressive spoiler lip and the diffuser-look rear apron emphasise the muscular character of the Marco Polo. 19-inch AMG light-alloy wheels in a seven-twin-spoke design round off the sporty appearance. The Marco Polo AMG Line – just as the V-Class AMG Line – furthermore features a 17-inch braking system, brake callipers with Mercedes-Benz lettering and a sports suspension lowered by 15 millimetres with a taut spring and damper setup. The AGILITY CONTROL suspension with frequency-dependent variable damping is available as an option.

The interior, too, reveals signature AMG traits. These include air vents in silver chrome, brushed aluminium sports pedals and carbon-fibre-look trim. The AMG Line is available for all three engine variants (100 kW/136 hp, 120 kW/163 hp and 140 kW/190 hp) as well as for the 4MATIC variants of the Marco Polo.

In addition, the first six months of 2016 will bring a range of further new features that add extra individual flair and enhance the already high-class appeal of the Marco Polo even more. The removable awning, for instance, will in future also be available in anthracite, while the cockpit can be fitted as an option with the ambient lighting feature already familiar from the V-Class. The subtle LED illumination can be dimmed in five stages and, with three different colour tones, allows the setting of an individual lighting mood: neutral (white), solar (amber) and polar (ice blue).

Customized driving and mobility aids for the Marco Polo available for the first time ex factory

For the first time, Mercedes-Benz offers a comprehensive range of driving and mobility aids for the Marco Polo ex factory. These make the popular camper van the ideal vehicle for people with physical handicaps or age-related restrictions. The installation of these driving and mobility aids is undertaken at the Car Modification Center within the Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen plant. They are also available for the V-Class.

Various solutions are offered to accommodate operation of the steering, accelerator and brake pedal. A rotating knob on the left or right-hand side of the steering wheel, for instance, allows steering with one hand. Further control devices enable one-handed acceleration or braking. With the “Classic” model, turning the knob accelerates the vehicle, pushing it forward applies the brakes. With the “Easy Speed” hand control unit, the same effect is obtained by pulling and pushing the lever. The conventional accelerator and brake pedals remain usable for drivers without limitations. If need be a pedal cover is available in conjunction with the hand control unit to prevent unintentional operation of the pedals. Another option: upon request the control stalk and cruise control stalk can be operated from the right-hand side of the steering wheel, by means of additional levers.

Also available is the ergonomically shaped “MFD Touch” multifunction knob. This is fitted to the left or right-hand side of the steering wheel and serves as a steering wheel turning knob with additional radio remote control for low beam, high beam, indicators, horn and windscreen wipers. All functions can be performed with one hand, without the driver needing to let go of the steering wheel. At the CMT Mercedes-Benz is presenting a Marco Polo with the “Easy Speed” hand control unit for the accelerator and brakes, an accelerator pedal relocated to the left and a pedal cover.
More extensive modifications to meet individual customer requirements are undertaken by specialist companies that are affiliated to Mercedes-Benz Vans through the so called VanPartner programme (www.vanpartner.com). “VanPartner by Mercedes-Benz” is an international platform established by Mercedes-Benz for a wide variety of van body solutions. The participants in this programme are body manufacturers who meet the high quality requirements of Mercedes-Benz Vans and are correspondingly certified.

Exemplary safety with the TÜV test mark “certified occupant protection”

The Marco Polo succeeds in fusing maximum functionality with aesthetic appeal, style and safety. The compact Mercedes-Benz camper van offers its occupants a standard of protection which goes beyond the statutory requirements for passenger cars – as attested by the test mark “certified occupant protection” awarded by the TÜV Rheinland technical inspection organisation. The Marco Polo is the first camper van to have proved in a crash test, over and beyond the conventional testing regime, how well the occupants are protected from the vehicle’s load as well as the stability of the vehicle’s fitted furniture in the event of an accident. In a collision at a speed of 56 km/h, the vehicle structure absorbed all the forces generated without any particular deformation in the interior. All the built-in units remained intact and the furniture doors closed, so ensuring that no pots, pans or other items fell out. As well as a kitchen area with a sink, double-burner gas stove, refrigerator box, drawers and a cupboard, the Marco Polo is furnished with a wardrobe, swivelling front seats, a folding table, an adjustable bench seat/bed and a bed in the roof.

The active safety of the Marco Polo is similarly exemplary, the aim being to prevent accidents. The compact camper van comes as standard with ATTENTION ASSIST, which can warn of inattention and fatigue, as well as Crosswind Assist. Further driver assistance systems are available as options – for example COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, Lane Keeping Assist or Active Parking Assist, with which parking the camper van is as straightforward and easy as with a compact car.

Marco Polo experts with specially trained sales staff in selected dealerships

In order to ensure that its customers receive the most detailed and expert advice in relation to its camper vans, Mercedes-Benz is now able to offer the services of Marco Polo experts, as they are known. These are distribution partners within the Mercedes-Benz Vans network specialising in offering support to customers who consider buying a Marco Polo. The sales staff has received specific training with respect to recreational vehicles and camper vans. Mercedes-Benz is thus able to cater better than ever to the very individual needs of camper van customers and to meet their high expectations. As well as having trained sales staff, these selected commercial vehicle dealers have a Marco Polo in their showrooms for demonstration purposes and are able to provide vehicles for test drives. Since January 2016, customers in Germany have been able to call upon 56 dealerships as Marco Polo experts. All specialist distribution partners are marked out as Marco Polo experts on the Mercedes-Benz website (www.mercedes-benz.de/marco-polo-experten).

Marco Polo once again wins reader’s choice award as “Compact Camper Van of the Year”

The popularity of the Marco Polo is also reflected in the outcome of the annual reader’s poll conducted by the German trade journal “promobil”. For the second time in a row, the magazine’s readers put the Marco Polo in first place in the “Compact Camper Van” category with 34 percent of the vote, so bestowing it the title “Compact Camper Van of the Year 2016”. The award ceremony will take place on 16 January 2016 during the CMT in Stuttgart.

Rear-opening SCA pop-up roof for Mercedes-Benz V-Class and Vito

Rear-opening SCA pop-up roof for Mercedes-Benz V-Class and Vito

New rear-opening SCA pop-up roof for V-Class and Vito

With the front-opening SCA 152 pop-up roof from C.F. Maier the V-Class and Vito were successfully introduced as base vehicles into the market for individual camper van conversions and bodies last year. A rear-opening version of this convenient pop-up roof is now also available with immediate effect, so extending the options for individual layouts for the V-Class and Vito.

The new rear-opening pop-up roof, with the designation SCA 153, is on offer for the V-Class and Vito models with a length of 5.14 metres. It is made up of a glass-fibre-reinforced plastic (GFRP) shell and rigid foam insulation. The inside is lined in addition with a cosy crushed velour fabric. This combination of materials is both light in weight and rigid and it ensures optimum heat and noise insulation. A bed with a surface area of 2.00 x 1.15 metres is installed as standard under the roof shell. The high scissor mechanism ensures plenty of legroom. If the bed is not in use while the roof is open, it can also be folded upwards with the help of two gas-filled struts. This function allows for a spacious interior with good headroom. The high-quality fabric roof bellows has three semicircular windows, each fitted with a double zip fastener. A useful folding mechanism with sewn-in plastic rods automatically retracts the fabric bellows when the pop-up roof is closed. This prevents it from becoming trapped between the vehicle body and the roof.

With its flat contours the pop-up roof blends perfectly into the silhouette of the V-Class and Vito. A roof spoiler – also of GFRP – above the windscreen ensures an optimum visual appearance with good aerodynamics. The roof is painted in arctic white as standard. A paint finish in the vehicle colour is possible on request. The roof is raised by a scissor mechanism at the front and a gas-filled strut to either side. The completely preassembled pop-up roof makes it easier for camper van bodybuilders to adapt it to the base vehicle.

Sprinter doubles sales in the European camper van market

The Sprinter, too, successfully extends its presence in the camper van market. Already the number-one model for comfortable, luxury-class motorhomes, it continues to grow in popularity as the base vehicle for partially and fully integrated camper vans. Its great versatility, high efficiency and exemplary safety, in particular, make it an increasingly attractive option for camper van manufacturers. The Sprinter, for example, is the only van that even as a base vehicle for camper vans is equipped with Crosswind Assist as standard. Sales of this popular van in the European camper van market doubled last year. The Sprinter is proving similarly successful in the US camper van market. A third of all Sprinter sold in the US are converted to campers. All in all, 30 conversion and bodybuilding companies around the world rely on the Sprinter.

Mercedes-Benz Finds Success With the V-Class

One year after its market launch the new V-Class has already been delivered to more than 20 000 customers

One year after its market launch the new V-Class has already been delivered to more than 20 000 customers. As a result, the new V-Class has become a truly successful model among MPVs within just a very short period of time. In the first year since its market launch the V-Class has sold 25 percent more vehicles than the preceding model, the Viano, achieved in its first year of sales following its sales start in September 2003.

According to Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans: “We are proud of the V-Class. In the past year we have redefined the MPV segment with this vehicle; a fact which is also confirmed by our current sales figures. Meanwhile all of the variants have become available on the market for our customers to choose from, creating the best possible conditions to be continuously successful with the V-Class around the world.”

V-Class already available in 90 countries; further market launches to follow in Australia, South Africa and Japan

In the meantime the V-Class has become available virtually worldwide. The MPV is available in around 90 countries from Mercedes-Benz passenger car and commercial vehicle dealerships, also including the right-hand drive market Great Britain. With market launches in Australia, South Africa and Japan to follow, the V-Class will expand its presence into further right-hand-drive markets in 2015.

A Mercedes to meet a host of requirements: the MPV produced at Vitoria in Spain

The V-Class is the most spacious member of the Mercedes-Benz passenger car family. It provides room for up to eight people and can be individualised to suit a variety of tastes and requirements thanks to wide-ranging seating and loading configurations. As such it is not just a car for families but also the ideal vehicle for sporty adventurers and luxurious VIP or hotel shuttle operators. The V-Class combines exemplary functionality with the high-class appeal, comfort, efficient driving pleasure and safety which characterise all Mercedes vehicles.
More than 3000 staff produce the V-Class at the Mercedes-Benz Vitoria plant in the Spanish Basque Country, where it contributes to ensuring that production runs at full capacity. To guarantee that the site was optimally equipped for the production of the new model series, Daimler AG invested around 190 million euros in Vitoria. The focus of the investment was squarely on the modernisation and reorganisation of the body shop, paint shop and assembly line. Logistics at the site have also been optimised. After Düsseldorf, Vitoria is the second largest production plant run by Mercedes-Benz Vans.

Complete range: all variants of the V-Class now available

The MPV was already available in a host of variants from the moment of its market launch. In the interim period the complete range has become available for customers to choose from. The V-Class is available in two wheelbases and three vehicle lengths ranging from 4895 mm to 5370 mm. The cutting-edge 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with two-stage turbocharging comes in three output variants rated at 100, 120 or 140 kW. The top-of-the-range V 250 d boasts a powerful maximum torque of 440 Nm but consumes just six litres per 100 km. All three engine variants can also be ordered with the permanent all-wheel drive system 4MATIC.

V-Class optional extras in high demand: customers look for that certain “extra”

The MPV is available in the V-Class and V-Class AVANTGARDE design and equipment lines as well as with an Exterior Sports package and an Interior Design package. In its first year on the market around half of the vehicle’s buyers have opted for the high-quality AVANTGARDE design and equipment line. Customers can also choose from a host of optional extras which are proving extremely popular. Particular innovations in the segment which enjoy high demand include the separately opening rear window and the Active Parking Assist. The driver assistance package with COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and PRE-SAFE® rates highly among buyers too. Furthermore, the new MPV is equipped as standard with ATTENTION ASSIST, which can warn of inattention and fatigue, and, as sole vehicle in the segment, with Crosswind Assist.

The team is planning a number of promotions during the season’s competitions to boost fund-raising for the aid projects among competitors and spectators.

The members of the triathlon team are Timo Bracht, Jan Raphael, Horst Reichel, Georg Potrebitsch and Julian Beuchert. The athletes were delighted about the valuable support at the presentation of the partnership during the pre-season preparations on Majorca: “The V-Class is indispensable as a support vehicle during the training units and for transporting equipment and bicycles. It also gives us the opportunity to take along our physios and team-mates. That is ideal”, says Timo Bracht, who as a father of a family is also enthusiastic about the V-Class in his private life. Mercedes-Benz also sees great added value in the partnership: “Triathletes are at home all over the world due to the training sessions and competitions and have to deliver top performances everywhere. We know from the athletes how important good ride quality and safety are on the long trips to the training and competition sites. A dynamic vehicle such as the V-Class is therefore a good fit for the requirements of triathlon and for people who are active in sports and depend on a high degree of mobility with lots of space for equipment”, explains Nicolai Berger, Head of Marketing Communications and Product Information Mercedes-Benz Vans.

Internationally successful top team supports Laureus Foundation

Five top athletes make up the TEAM SPORT FOR GOOD. In 39-year-old Timo Bracht, the team includes an eight-time IRONMAN winner and three-time European long-distance champion. Jan Raphael (35) wants to follow up on 2013, his most successful season when he finished as the runner-up in the European triathlon championship. Horst Reichel’s (33) wins in 2014 included the IRONMAN Sweden, while 31-year-old Georg Potrebitsch won the title of German long-distance triathlon champion in 2011. A new member of the team is 22-year-old Julian Beuchert, who in 2014 succeeded in winning the European championship in the U25 age group at the IRONMAN 70.3 in Wiesbaden. The team’s home is in Eberbach in the German State of Baden-Wuerttemberg. On 25 April, the TEAM SPORT FOR GOOD will start the new season on the island of Fuerteventura. The team will also compete in the high points of the season, the IRONMAN world championships in Hawaii, the European championships in Frankfurt and the Challenge Roth. The athletes will wear the Mercedes star on helmets and uniforms as well as “V-Class” branding on their race suits.

The composition of the athletic team has been virtually the same for about four years and the team already received support from Mercedes-Benz as an automotive partner in the last season when it was still known as Power Horse. This year, the five athletes are going by the team name TEAM SPORT FOR GOOD to promote the social commitment of the Laureus Sport for Good foundation and collect donations for the aid projects. A number of promotions are planned during the season with which the TEAM SPORT FOR GOOD intends to support the foundation. The athletes also hope to win over other triathletes and fans for the global movement.

Ever since the establishment of the Laureus Foundation in the year 2000, Mercedes-Benz supports the targets and values of this worldwide charitable program: to use sports as a vehicle for social change for underpriviledged or diseased children. Laureus became an integral part in the social responsibility of Mercedes-Benz. Every new Mercedes car is an ambassador of these values.

Along with more general support, the arrangement includes the provision of V-Class vehicles to the national organisers for support and shuttle services all year round and for all competitions. Furthermore, the brand bearing the three-pointed star is the 2015 official automotive partner of reigning IRONMAN world and European long-distance triathlon champion Sebastian Kienle.

The new V-Class is the ideal partner for triathletes and for all people who enjoy sports and recreational activities: it boasts maximum flexibility and performance combined with maximum safety and efficient energy consumption. In addition, it blends the generous amount of space and the functionality of a van with the hallmark strengths of a Mercedes-Benz passenger car.

The seating in the rear allows numerous configurations to meet any requirements. In just a few simple steps, the interior of the V-Class can be transformed from a loading space for several bicycles into the seating area of a comfortable people carrier for the entire family, for business partners or for team-mates. Top performance is ensured by a state-of-the-art 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with two-stage turbocharging. The top-of-the-range engine in the V 250 BlueTEC is rated at 140 kW (190 hp) and boasts a mighty peak torque of 440 Nm while still only consuming 6.0 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres.

A new partnership has been launched in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim: Mercedes-Benz is the official 2015 automotive partner of the reigning IRONMAN World and European Champion, Sebastian Kienle. On 10 March, Nicolai Berger, Head of Marketing Communications and Product Information for Mercedes-Benz Vans, handed over a new V-Class on behalf of the company to this outstanding 30-year-old athlete from Mühlacker in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The new training and support vehicle will allow Kienle to prepare even better for his races. “Flexibility, staying power and top-level performance – an exceptional triathlete like Sebastian Kienle and the Mercedes-Benz V-Class have much in common. It is factors like these that have made us keen to be involved in the sport of triathlon and we are delighted to be able to support the World and European Champion in defending his titles”, said Berger during the handover.

“The V-Class is the ideal training vehicle. Even though all my sports equipment, including my triathlon bike, takes up such a lot of space, there’s no need to compromise on comfort in the V-Class”, commented a delighted Sebastian Kienle on the partnership with Mercedes-Benz.

Kienle joins forces with Mercedes-Benz engineers for tests in the Untertürkheim wind tunnel

Following the handover ceremony, the triathlon world championship holder took the opportunity for a training session in the wind tunnel on the Mercedes-Benz site just outside Stuttgart. With the help of Volker Reichl, aerodynamics and acoustics expert for the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, Kienle was able to test the aerodynamic efficiency of his equipment with him on his triathlon bike. Such tests are all part of the 30-year-old’s meticulous preparation for the 2015 season.

Sebastian Kienle is considered one of the strongest cyclists on the international triathlon circuit. From 2010 until 2011 he held the world record for the 180-km cycle race in a long-distance triathlon. The 30-year-old professional athlete, who lines up for the Baden-Württemberg-based Tri-Team Heuchelberg, was voted Triathlete of the Year in 2012, 2013 and 2014 by the specialist magazine “triathlon”. Following two world championship titles in 2012 and 2013 in the IRONMAN 70.3, over half the distances, Kienle last year secured the double of both the World and European Championship titles in the IRONMAN long-distance triathlon.

Mercedes-Benz Vans is a committed partner to the sport of triathlon and will this year, once again, remain the official automotive partner of the IRONMAN European Tour. Along with more general support, the deal includes the provision of V-Class vehicles to the national organisers for support and shuttle services all year round and for all competitions. Mercedes-Benz V-Class: performance pure

The new V-Class is the ideal partner for people who enjoy sports and leisure activities: It boasts maximum flexibility and performance with the highest possible levels of safety and efficient energy consumption. In addition, it blends the generous amount of space and the functionality of an MPV with the hallmark strengths of a Mercedes-Benz passenger car.
The interior allows a wide range of seating and loading configurations. With a few quick movements, it can be converted from a load compartment for several bicycles to a comfortable MPV for the whole family or for business partners. Top performance is ensured by the ultramodern 2.1-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with two-stage turbocharging. The top-of-the-range 140 kW (190 hp) engine in the V 250 BlueTEC boasts a mighty 440 Nm of peak torque while still only burning a frugal 6.0 litres every 100 km.

Untertürkheim wind tunnel used to optimise wind resistance

The wind tunnel at the Mercedes-Benz site in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim is used for testing the aerodynamics of all types of vehicle. The 9000 m³ of air contained within the 125 m tunnel, which is laid out as a ring, can be accelerated to as much as 250 km an hour – corresponding to a Category 4 hurricane. At the heart of the system is a nine-blade axial fan with a diameter of 8.5 metres and an output of 5000 kW.

Mercedes-Benz Metris Van – Not Too Big, Not Too Small

Mercedes-Benz Vans USA is introducing the “Mercedes-Benz Metris” at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis

Mercedes-Benz Vans USA is introducing the “Mercedes-Benz Metris” at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 10:00 am. This follows the “Mission: Metris” teaser campaign at SEMA in Las Vegas in November 2014, which featured four custom upfitted Metris concept vans. The Metris, which launches at U.S. dealers in October 2015, is the U.S. and Canadian sibling to the “Vito,” which remains the midsize commercial van nameplate for all other global markets.

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz Metris Passenger Van

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz Metris Passenger Van

“We are pleased to debut the Mercedes-Benz Metris at NTEA, which is a major step in launching our midsize commercial van in the U.S. market in October 2015,” said Bernie Glaser, Vice President and Managing Director of Daimler Vans USA, LLC. “It is only logical that we adopt the global approach and also expand our successful vans business in the USA. Our SEMA ‘Mission: Metris’ presence with four distinctive van concepts was an effective way for us to hit the ground running to announce the nameplate ‘Mercedes-Benz Metris’ and to show off its unmatched versatility, size, and safety. And now, we can’t wait to offer our customers and upfitters both the Sprinter and Metris Vans as a full-line vans brand: Mercedes-Benz Vans.”

The Metris is a right-sized vehicle: It is larger than the small vans and smaller than the large vans. Its value proposition includes superior craftsmanship, high cargo/towing capacity, and an attractive price. It is designed to thrive in large metropolitan areas with an agile yet spacious presence. The Cargo Van starts at $28,950, and the Passenger Van starts at $32,500 (excluding $995 destination/delivery charge for both vans). Because all Mercedes-Benz Vans feature the advantages of top service at dealerships, top levels of safety and ergonomics, and exemplary Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), the Metris shines in all areas. It can easily fit into a parking garage in a large metropolitan area, and can also meet the needs of those who work out of their homes. In addition, it carries many of the rugged characteristics of the Sprinter.

Vehicle Length Width Height Advantage Metris
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 233.3 in 79.7 in 96.3 in
Mercedes-Benz Metris 202.4 in 75.9 in 74.8 in
Ford Transit Connect 189.7 in 72.2 in 72.6 in Metris: 880+ lbs (+54%) more payload and 45% more cargo volume
Nissan NV200 SV 186.3 in 68.1 in 73.7 in Metris: 1000+ lbs (+73%) more payload and over 50% more cargo volume
RAM C/V Tradesman 202.8 in 78.7 in 69.0 in Metris: 700+ lbs (+39%) more payload and 29% more cargo volume

Upon launching in October 2015 at the 200+ Mercedes-Benz U.S. dealers authorized to sell Vans, the Metris will be available with a powerful and highly efficient 4-cylinder gasoline engine that has 208 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, mated to a refined, efficient, and robust 7-speed automatic transmission with rear-wheel drive. This powertrain application, with optional ECO start/stop, was developed specifically for the U.S. and Canadian markets to meet the needs of the Mid-Size Commercial Van Segment, and also comes with a service interval of up to 15,000 miles.

Advanced safety features are a hallmark for any Mercedes-Benz vehicle, and the Metris will feature 6 airbags for the Cargo Van variant and 8 airbags for the Passenger Van variant. All models will feature standard ATTENTION ASSIST, standard Crosswind Assist, and standard load-adaptive ESP. Optional safety features will include Active Parking Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, PARKTRONIC, Collision Prevention Assist, Blind Spot Assist, and a rearview camera. Many of the interior features are taken from other recent automotive entrants into the Mercedes-Benz lineup, such as premium touches and overall fit-and-finish. Large cupholders have also been added to the center console on the dashboard to meet North American customer needs of long-haul or local driving.

In the U.S. full-size commercial van segment, sales of the Sprinter continue to be brisk, up 17.4% YTD. Model year 2014 brought new major enhancements such as a fresh and confident new front end exterior design, 4-cylinder BlueTEC clean diesel powertrain that already plays a similar role as its big brother, the V6, and upgrades of safety and infotainment.

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz Metris

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz Metris

Model year 2015 saw many additional enhancements for the Sprinter including:

  • Addition of standard Crosswind Assist on all 2500 models.
  • Increased service intervals of up to 20,000 miles (MY 2014 service intervals were up to 15,000 miles).
  • Optional Sprinter 4×4 version of both Cargo Van and Passenger Van versions will also be added in Q1/2015, which will be the only ex-factory four-wheel drive system on the market for a commercial van in the USA.
  • Addition of a third roof option. The new super high roof underlines the benchmark position concerning interior heights by offering an interior roof height of up to 7 feet.
  • SULEV option for our standard 4-cylinder BlueTEC engine is the first SULEV diesel engine worldwide and underlines our ‘Green Leadership.’
  • A Super Single heavy duty package variant is being introduced in early 2015, which is an alternative to the 3500 dually rear wheel setup that allows for a 48.3 in. loading width between wheels.

All of these features highlight the position of the Sprinter as the most innovative large van in the segment. Independent from the model year, over 75% of all Sprinters have upfitter treatment on them, regardless of extra shelving or extensive Recreational Vehicle modifications.

To coincide with the launch of the new Metris midsize commercial van, this year the Daimler Vans USA team is pleased to announce that they will be rolling out a new and improved Upfitter Program in the coming months. Upfitters play a crucial role in meeting the vast array of customer requirements, and the planned enhancements to this already highly successful initiative will help maximize the full potential in the U.S. market.

Mercedes-Benz Vans is displaying a special DJ Van from RENNtech in the lobby of Cobo Hall during NAIAS press days, just outside of the Mercedes-Benz booth. The van features a fully-functional DJ setup and a raised roof with plenty of speakers to make its presence known.

SEMA attendees were able to vote on their favorite concept via various social media channels. The RENNtech DJ Van was the clear winner of the Mission: Metris contest due to its striking design and overall audio/visual effects, and will be shown alongside the U.S. production versions of the Mercedes-Benz Metris at their premiere at NTEA in March.

Representatives from Mercedes-Benz Vans USA and RENNtech will be on site for product walkarounds and more detailed product information.

Mercedes V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC Announced

Mercedes-Benz has announced plans to further expand the V-Class lineup with the introduction of the V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC at the Paris Motor Show.

Mercedes-Benz has announced plans to further expand the V-Class lineup with the  introduction of the V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC at the Paris Motor Show.

This will be the first V-Class with 4MATIC all-wheel drive, and will feature a 2.1-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 190 PS (140 kW) and 440 Nm (324 lb-ft) of torque in the the V 250 BlueTEC.

Detailed performance specifications have not been released but Mercedes confirmed the model will consume 6.7 L/100km (35.1 mpg US / 42.1 mpg UK) and have CO2 emissions of 177 g/km.

The V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC will go on sale in December and German pricing starts at €53,109.70 (including a 19% VAT).

The new V-Class with permanent all-wheel drive

The new V-Class with permanent all-wheel drive

V 250 BlueTEC with 4MATIC all-wheel drive available to order from December
The 4MATIC system, already proven in many Mercedes-Benz passenger car models, provides palpably more traction and driving stability in all driving conditions. Regardless of whether it’s on a pot-holed street, a muddy track or a snowy or icy road – the V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC copes effortlessly with every driving surface. The all-wheel drive also improves the way the vehicle pulls away and accelerates, particularly on poor surfaces or in bad weather.
The 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive system is based on the proven 4ETS Electronic Traction System working together with the Electronic Stability Program (ESP)®. 4ETS distributes power to the front and rear axle in a 45:55 ratio. If one or more wheels lose traction, 4ETS slows them down in a fraction of a second and automatically distributes power to the wheels with better roadholding. Conventional mechanical differential locks are therefore not needed. This technology, which is also deployed in Mercedes-Benz SUVs and off-road vehicles, saves on weight and at the same time increases driving safety and comfort.
A double-disc clutch is fitted to the central differential. This achieves a basic locking torque of approximately 50 Nm between the front and rear axle. The clutch pack is permanently preloaded. In the case of spinning wheels on one of the two axles, friction torque is transmitted to the axle spinning more slowly by relative movement of the discs. This variable torque shift improves traction and driving stability. The traction and stabilising effect of this pre-lock clutch are clearly noticeable, particularly in the case of low coefficients of friction between the tyres and the road surface.
4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive will initially be offered for the V-Class with the top-of-the-range V 250 BlueTEC engine variant, which generates an output of 140 kW (190 hp) and a powerful 440 Nm of torque. That means it can deliver great pulling power and agility – yet at the same time post commendably low consumption figures. The V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC requires a mere 6.7 l of fuel per 100 km (177 g CO2/km). And thanks to BlueTEC, it is also the first vehicle with permanent all-wheel drive in its segment to comply with the Euro 6 emissions standard. Power is transmitted by the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission. The transfer case for the all-wheel drive is integrated into the main transmission. The V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC with body length “Long” is available in Germany from EUR 53,109.70 incl. 19 percent VAT.
In addition to the top-of-the-range V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC model, other engine variants of the MPV will also be offered with all-wheel drive in the future.
Extremely efficient, exemplarily safe and superbly comfortable
With the V-Class, Mercedes-Benz is redefining the MPV. The car combines seating for up to eight persons and exemplary functionality with the typical strengths of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars – from perceived quality to comfort, efficient driving pleasure and safety. This makes the Mercedes among MPVs the perfect vehicle for all those who appreciate great spaciousness but do not want to sacrifice style and comfort.
The V-Class has been available with rear-wheel drive as standard since March 2014. There are three output levels to choose from: 100 kW (136 hp), 120 kW (163 hp) and 140 kW (190 hp). With fuel consumption from as little as 5.7 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 149 g/km, the 120 hp V 220 CDI is the outright leader in its segment.
The level of safety is just as exemplary. There are eleven driver assistance systems available. ATTENTION ASSIST and Crosswind Assist are on board as standard. Optional extras include the DISTRONIC PLUS adaptive cruise control system, together with COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, Traffic Sign Assist with the wrong-way warning function, the LED Intelligent Light System and Active Parking Assist, which makes parking an MPV as easy as parking a compact car. Most of the assistance systems are available for the first time in this vehicle class.
The V-Class features four rear seats as standard. A two-passenger bench seat, three-passenger bench seat or berth package are also available as options. All bench seats can be folded down and used as a second loading level. Items can also be loaded beneath them.
High-quality materials, a stylish colour scheme, extremely fine attention to detail and a design idiom that is both progressive and sensuous convey a perceived quality that stands out within the segment.
The feel-good atmosphere is complemented with the lowest noise level in the segment.
For convenient loading and unloading the V-Class is also available with a separately opening rear window. It can be opened and closed independently of the tailgate. This facilitates loading and unloading twice over: on the one hand, it allows a second loading level; on the other – particularly in tight parking spaces – there is no need to open the large tailgate. Another USP for the newV-Class: The optional EASY-PACK tail gate, which is controlled electrically and can be conveniently opened, closed and halted in any position.
