Mercedes-Benz at the 2020 Masters Tournament

Four Mercedes-Benz Brand Ambassadors reach for the title

The 2020 Masters Tournament is unique in two respects. First, this year marks the first time the Masters will be held in November since its premiere in 1934. The world’s best golfers were originally due to tee off at the tradition-steeped Augusta National Golf Club between April 9 and 12. However, after postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic, golf’s first Major of the year will now be a fall classic held November 12 to 15 – exactly 578 days since last year’s event. Furthermore, the 2020 Masters Tournament will also be the first without patrons and their beloved “roars” at Augusta National. However, the unique prestige of the Masters, where Mercedes-Benz has been a global partner since 2008, remains unchanged as the sport’s best players compete to win the Green Jacket and their place in Tournament history.

As a long-standing partner of the Masters, Mercedes-Benz is ensuring mobility for all players and officials on location at Augusta National. Four Mercedes-Benz Brand Ambassadors also feature in the 2020 Masters field, including two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer, Rickie Fowler, Jon Rahm and Ian Poulter.

Before and during the Tournament, Mercedes-Benz is showcasing exclusive content with these Brand Ambassadors and will provide Tournament updates on the Mercedes Sports social media channels. In addition to near-live content, a film specially produced for the Masters on the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC (combined fuel consumption: 12.0 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 275 g/km) [1] will be released there. This special vehicle is accompanying the Mercedes-Benz Brand Ambassadors on their way to Augusta National.

Rickie Fowler, who stars in the film, speaks about his ambitions for this year’s prestigious Tournament.  The 31-year-old American made it to the top 10 at the Masters last year. “It is my 10th time participating in the Masters and my 10th opportunity to make this dream come true,” says the runner-up of 2018. “No one remembers who came second — except the runner-up. This year I want to put on the Green Jacket.”

Along with Ian Poulter and Jon Rahm, Rickie Fowler is part of the trio taking part in a Q&A event at the start of the Masters week. The Brand Ambassadors will talk about the challenging golf year 2020, their goals for the Masters and their connection to Mercedes-Benz. The Q&A session can be watched on Mercedes-Benz USA’s Instagram channel (link).

Besides title contender Rickie Fowler, Jon Rahm is another favorite to win the Green Jacket. This year is the fourth time the Spaniard has taken part in the Masters after making his debut in 2017, and he is traveling to Augusta ranking second in the world. Ian Poulter made it to the top 12 last year. The Briton is about to take part in his 15th Masters.

The German golf legend Bernhard Langer secured a life-long invitation to the Masters with his two victories in 1985 and 1993, but it is a special Tournament for him, too, this year: “A very special Masters — without spectators, the stands and the roping,” says Bernhard Langer in an interview at the press presentation and test driving event for the new S-Class. “I am nevertheless looking forward to competing in Augusta, even under these extraordinary conditions. It will certainly be a Masters that goes down in history.”

Mercedes-Benz Announces Global Sponsorship of the Masters

Mercedes-Benz and Golf are the perfect pairing, watch just how perfect in the World Record Setting Video

Mercedes-Benz and Billy Payne, Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament, have officially announced that Mercedes-Benz will enter into a new worldwide partnership with the Masters.  Their partnership will begin at the 2014 Tournament. Mercedes-Benz has been an International Partner of the Masters since 2008, but will now become a Global Sponsor, joining the ranks of AT&T and IBM.

“The Masters is the most prestigious golf tournament in the world and this partnership aligns with our strategy to place Mercedes-Benz at the forefront of premier sporting events,” said Stephen Cannon, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA. “Mercedes-Benz has a long-standing history with golf and to be associated as a Global Sponsor of the Masters strengthens our existing ties with one of the world’s most popular and widely played sports.”

In an effort to show just how much Mercedes-Benz and golf go together, we dug up one of our most popular videos from nearly a year ago – the video shows off the perfect pairing of golf and Mercedes.  The video has David Coulthard, F1 legend and AMG brand ambassador, catching a golf ball in a 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster. Coulthard set a new Guinness World Record in the process.

Coulthard drove the 571-horsepower Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster at over 120 mph in order to catch the golf ball hit by professional golfer Jake Shepherd.  Keep in mind, Shepherd was 900 feet away and hit the ball hard enough to reach 178 mph.

Mercedes-Benz Celebrates Twenty Years in Golf

Mercedes-Benz honors its golf Ambassador, Bernhard Langer, reaching a 20-year anniversary for winning the 57th Masters in 1993

Mercedes-Benz has been a long time supporter of the game of golf, whether it’s supporting an elite group of pro golfers or raising money for charity through their Mercedes-Benz Dealer Golf Championship, Mercedes has played a large role in the game of golf. In fact, this week marks a 20-year milestone for the Mercedes-Benz brand’s involvement in the sport of golf.

In order to mark the occasion, Mercedes-Benz will honor its global golf Ambassador, Bernhard Langer, who also reaches a 20-year anniversary for his win at the 57th Masters in 1993, which put him in an elite group of professional golfers who have worn the coveted green jacket more than once. Mercedes-Benz is recognizing Langer during a ceremony at River Island to celebrate the occasion and his successful list of accomplishments both on and off the course.

“Mercedes-Benz and our dealers have proudly supported the game of golf for the past two decades. Golf embodies skill, precision and drive which are themes shared by Mercedes-Benz and our owners,” said Stephen Cannon, CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA. “Our global brand ambassador, Bernhard Langer embodies these characteristics and it’s fitting that we are celebrating both milestones together.”

Mercedes-Benz continues to be a leading supporter of golf around the world. The Mercedes-Benz brand is Official Patron and Vehicle of The PGA of America. As the official Patron, Mercedes-Benz is a supporter of the PGA Championship, Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid and the 2012 Ryder Cup. From 1994-2009, Mercedes-Benz was the title sponsor of the Mercedes Championship in Kapalua, Hawaii.

Within the U.S., the three-pointed star is currently involved in several high-profile golf tournaments, including the Waste Management Phoenix Open, Wells Fargo Championship, AT&T National, Northern Trust Open, AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and World Challenge presented by Northwestern Mutual.

“The PGA of America is extremely proud of our partnership with Mercedes-Benz and we salute them for their commitment to the game over the last 20 years,” said Pete Bevacqua, CEO, PGA of America. “The Mercedes-Benz brand and its dealers have supported and promoted golf on a variety of levels, all the while raising money for charities and giving back to communities.”

Since 1993, Mercedes-Benz dealers have hosted tournaments in their local communities for golf enthusiasts and customers as part of the Mercedes-Benz Dealer Golf Championship. The entry fees are donated to charities as part of the tournament activities. In 2012, the Mercedes-Benz Dealer Championship program consisted of 84 tournaments played by over 5,850 participants that raised $2.15 million for charity. The regional sectionals were played at Turtle Bay Resort in Oahu, Hawaii in November.
