A Stay at Eden Rock – St Barths Is the Closest I’ve Felt to Heaven in Dior Sunglasses

Eden Rock - St Barths is the kind of place that doesn’t just pamper you, it transforms you into the most effortless, champagne-glowing version of yourself

It started with a bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée – not a glass, mind you, a full, chilled bottle – waiting for me on the teak coffee table of my suite, accompanied by a handwritten note and a vase of fresh-cut bougainvillea. It’s Eden Rock’s new signature welcome, a gesture that says: You’ve arrived where only the best will do.

The famed Eden Rock – St Barths has always been more than a hotel – it’s an institution of glamor. The kind of place where old-money families, art collectors, and editors in oversized sunglasses come not to be seen, but to be themselves, bathed in Caribbean light and impeccable taste. Now, it’s also the first hotel in the world to partner with Maison Krug Champagne, raising its already sky-high standards into the stratosphere of luxury.

Champagne Wishes and Caviar Days

Every guest now receives a complimentary bottle of Krug upon arrival, setting a new precedent not just in hospitality, but in how we mark the beginning of joy. My suite – a cliffside hideaway carved into the coral rock – offered floor-to-ceiling views of St Jean Bay, where the sea turned from turquoise to ink as the sun dipped below the horizon. That first sunset toast on my private terrace, barefoot in a silk robe with a flute of Krug Rosé in hand, remains etched in my memory like a dream I once actually lived.

Dining here, naturally, is its own spectacle. At The Sand Bar, overseen by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, I enjoyed one of the most transcendent pairings I’ve had in recent memory: barely seared yellowfin tuna with ginger vinaigrette, alongside a glass of Krug Clos du Mesnil. Our sommelier, Luc, described it as “structured joy”- and I believed him. The Eden Rock Beach Bar served as my daily ritual for a crisp glass of Grande Cuvée in the late afternoon, always with my toes in the sand and jazz floating on the breeze.

The Rémy Bar & Salon: A Hidden Gem of Wine Culture

It’s rare to find a hotel bar that doubles as a true wine destination, but Eden Rock’s Rémy Bar & Salon, unveiled just last season, is exactly that. A chic, quiet hideaway where art deco meets Caribbean soul, it now houses the island’s richest wine cellar, with nearly 1,000 hand-curated references. I took part in a private tasting led by the most magical of beings – who, I swear, should moonlight as a poet – and we explored a trio of cuvées from both legacy vineyards and small organic producers. With each sip, I felt pulled deeper into the Eden Rock spell, where indulgence and intentionality dance in perfect step.

For true enthusiasts, the “Master Epicurean” tasting – priced at just under $1,000 – offers an unforgettable 90-minute journey through rare vintages, paired with cheeses and charcuterie flown in weekly from France. Yes, I splurged. No, I have no regrets.

Where Luxury Is Breathed, Not Boasted

From the woven linen umbrellas on the beach to the subtle scent of sandalwood wafting through the hallways, Eden Rock is obsessive about detail in the most elegant way. The boutique could outfit you for an editorial shoot in L’Officiel, while the wellness offerings – sunrise yoga, sea-view massages, essential oils blended in-house – remind you that true beauty lives in both extravagance and stillness.

This is a place where you never have to ask for anything twice – because you never have to ask. Need your Krug chilled just a bit more? It’s already been taken care of. Want your beach lounger repositioned to catch the last rays? A discreet hand is already on the chair before you speak.

The Spirit of the Rock

And yet, what lingers most isn’t the Champagne or the sunsets or the seven-thread-count sheets (though, all divine). It’s the people. The bellman who handed me chilled aloe water after a long swim. The guest services manager who remembered my dog’s name from a visit five years ago. The effortless warmth that says: you’re not just a guest here. You’re part of the Eden Rock family, wrapped in sun and sea and bubbles.

As I sipped my final glass of Krug – this time at breakfast, because why not – I realized Eden Rock doesn’t just define luxury. It evolves it, continually refining a world where beauty, joy, and exquisite taste are simply the air you breathe.

Room rates start from €4,500 per night. A bottle of Krug is included, but the magic? That part’s priceless.

Luxury Christmas Gift by Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes released their 2012 Christmas gifts, and answered the question, "what do you get the person that has everything?"

Mercedes-Benz released their 2012 Christmas gifts, and thus answered the question, “what do you get the person that has everything?”  The diverse range of present ideas included in the “Christmas Stars 2012” Mercedes campaign ranges from anActros ride-on truck to a wristwatch. In addition to the familiar classics such as the Bobby-Benz or cufflinks in the form of the SL shift lever knob, numerous other new products are also available this year. The following is an overview of the new products.

Sweeter the bells never sound: presents for her

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend – the CRYSTALLIZED™ Swarovski elements on the hour markers are the highlight of the new “Sports Fashion” wristwatch . This ladies’ watch (199.90 Euros [1] ) has a 42 millimetre stainless steel housing with a fixed bezel and a natural rubber strap. The white and pink dial is decorated with a star motif. The Ronda 5030 quartz movement has a time-keeping function and a date display. The watch is waterproof up to 5 ATM and is manufactured in Switzerland.

Rhinestones also decorate the wool-white knitted hat (34.90 Euros) made of a wool blend. The knitted loop scarf for 49.90 Euros is also in wool-white and is 35 cm wide and 144 cm in circumference.

Gloomy dismal winter weather is soon forgotten thanks to the smartphone case and the manicure set in bright pink. Both are made of 100 percent Italian calfskin and handmade in Germany. The smartphone case measures 8 x 13 cm and costs 39.90 Euros. The manicure set (79.90 Euros) comprises nail scissors, tweezers, a nail file and a nail cleaner all made in Solingen.

Pink and black stars decorate a further new idea in the “Christmas Stars” program – a grey scarf which measures 190 x 55 cm. It costs 29.90 Euros.

Over the river and through the wood: presents for him

Men love the practical things in life – and so look forward to classic presents such as ties. Navy blue with brown spots, the 100 percent silk tie in this year’s “Christmas Stars” collection (49.90 Euros) is “made in Italy” and is exceptionally elegant.

The credit card etui made of gleaming Italian black calfskin (79.90 Euros) is just as stylish. The etui in portrait form (dimensions: 11 x 0.5 x 12 cm) can hold up to ten credit cards and also has two pockets and two sections for notes.

Putting pen to paper for New Year best wishes is even less trouble with the ballpoint pen and rollerball model in matt black that are new to the range. Both of these top-quality writing instruments are made of metal with chrome-plated fittings and are produced in Germany. A star is engraved in the button whilst the clip is engraved with the words “Mercedes‑Benz”. The prices are 29.90 Euros for the ballpoint pen and 34.90 Euros for the rollerball pen.

With an anthracite-coloured scarf and matching knitted hat made of 100 percent wool, our man is well-equipped for Christmas walks and snowball fights. The scarf (79.90 Euros) has a honeycomb weave in black and anthracite with a fringe at both ends. It measures 180 x 40 cm. The knitted hat (29.90 Euros) has a double rib welt with a leather badge embossed with a star.

“Business Style Chrono” and “Sports Fashion” are the two new wristwatches that are Swiss-produced. The “Business Style Chrono” model (399.90 Euros) is made of stainless steel and has a sunburst anthracite-coloured dial with luminous hands and index markers. The watch is driven by a Ronda 5030 quartz movement and is waterproof up to 10 ATM. The diameter of the housing is 41.5 millimetres. Further details include mineral glass, an expanding strap and the screwed back plate engraved with “Mercedes‑Benz”.

As the name suggests the “Sports Fashion” wristwatch (199.90 Euros) boasts a sporty appearance. The stainless steel housing – with a diameter of 42 millimetres – is combined with a natural rubber strap and is waterproof up to 5 ATM. The heart of the watch is a Ronda 5030 quartz movement with a time-keeping function and a date display.

O come little children: presents for kids

Soon Father Christmas won’t have the coolest ride in town: because the SLS AMG in matt white is now available as a children’s ride-on car. Production of the Bobby-Benz (79.90 Euros) is limited to 2500 and sports true-to-original Mercedes‑Benz AMG wheel rims with treaded silent tyres. This SLS AMG is suitable for toddlers aged 18 months and older and is also available in Monza grey magno. However, there are vehicles other than sports cars: small truck drivers can have lots of fun with the children’s ride-on Actros (69.90 Euros). This tractor unit is modelled on the Mercedes Actros 2. It comes in andorite grey and is also suitable for kids aged from 18 months.

Suitable for children from the age of three, the Mercedes‑Benz Silver Arrow at a scale of 1:64 is, of course, in silver. The new wind-up pullback model costs 4.90 Euros.

Finally hats off to the very young: a baby baseball cap with ear flaps (19.90 Euros) is one of the new additions to the “Christmas Stars” range. Thanks to a classic check in grey and turquoise with a leather badge embossed with a star this cap is extremely versatile. The soft lining is grey and the circumference is 46 centimetres.

Deck the halls: presents for fans

The new silver-coloured “Special Edition 2012” Christmas baubles (34.90 Euros) are a great decoration for every Christmas tree. The motif – a race with two Mercedes 300 SL cars at the Nürburgring in 1952 – is painted on the glass from the inside. The baubles with a diameter of 10 centimetres are hung with silver-coloured ribbons and are available in sets of two in a red velvet presentation box.

Christmas candle: the new dinner candles available in sets of two create a festive atmosphere. The two hand-blown tea light holders (dimensions: 9 x 65 cm) are decorated all over with silver-coloured stars. Candles are included in the set (19.90 Euros).

Classy napkin rings made of polished stainless steel, of which the tops are embellished with a three-dimensional star, emphasise the festive atmosphere. The napkin rings are oval with rounded corners and are available as a set of four for 39.90 Euros in a presentation box.
