Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupé: “Play by your rules.”

The five-minute film tells a story of youth and adulthood, of fitting in and non-conformity

Mercedes-Benz coupled the sales release of the new CLA Coupé with an emotively appealing film you can see here- https://youtu.be/J6tgrZEAinQ The five-minute film tells a story of youth and adulthood, of fitting in and non-conformity. In a fictitious inner dialogue a young adult looks back at the dreams and desires of their younger self. “Play by your rules.” is, appropriately, also the slogan for the new CLA Coupé. Beyond the campaign itself the Mercedes-Benz brand wants to encourage people to follow their inner voice and do the important things in life in their own individual way.

“A unique car for extraordinary people – this is how we see and present the new CLA Coupé. The film speaks the language of a young, confident target group which is true to itself”, says Bettina Fetzer, Director Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars. “We are concentrating more on entertainment than classical advertising here. The film is bold and emotional, without taking itself too seriously.”

CLA drivers are seen as individualists. Creativity, aesthetic expression and the sense of being in control of their own life is of the utmost importance to them.

The star in lead: New Instagram filter exclusively for the CLA campaign

As the first automotive brand, Mercedes-Benz virtually offers to enter an imaginary CLA world and design it according to its own rules with the Instagram Augmented Reality (AR) Filter #PlayByYourRules created for the CLA campaign. The filter is inspired by the typical neon lights of the Japanese metropolis Tokyo, the location for the photo production of the CLA Campaigns print ads. #PlayByYourRules invites fans of the star brand and social media users to become part of the campaign and enjoy trying different filter variations. The only requirement is to follow the Mercedes-Benz Instagram account @mercedesbenz and select the AR filter in your own filter tray.

The film was directed by François Rousselet. He is currently one of the most creative minds behind music videos and advertising films. Rousselet has worked with stars including Kanye West, Madonna, Depeche Mode, Snoop Dogg, Pharrell and Jack White. He has received MTV Music Awards and World Music Awards.

The new CLA Coupé: The new Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupé combines sporty and emotive beauty with highly intelligent technology. Alongside its unique look, this design masterpiece features the next level of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) with the Interior Assistant, plus many individualisation options.

They love anything out of the ordinary, so the new Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupé is the perfect car for them: not only is it a very emotively appealing vehicle; it is also highly intelligent. From MBUX Interior Assist, which recognises operational demands from gestures and equips the interior with intelligence, through augmented reality for navigation and understanding indirect voice commands to the ENERGIZING COACH that provides individual fitness recommendations, the new CLA offers an array of clever solutions which make life easier. There are also ingenious details when it comes to the aerodynamics and functions for the Intelligent Drive driving assistance package. The design underlines the coupé character with its stretched form and elements such as the bonnet with powerdomes or the rear licence plate which has been moved down. As such it does justice to its predecessor’s status as a design icon. Prices begin at 31,475.50[1] euros for the CLA 180 with 100 kW (136 hp), 200 Nm and a six-speed manual transmission (combined fuel consumption: 5.7-5.5 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 130-125 g/km)[2]. Deliveries will commence in May 2019.

Mercedes-Benz Summer Event Commercial – “Heat”

Tested to the extremes of hot and cold, every vehicle Mercedes-Benz makes—from the C-Class to the SLS AMG GT—can survive conditions you'll probably never encounter

Tested to the extremes of hot and cold, every vehicle Mercedes-Benz makes—from the C-Class to the SLS AMG GT—can survive conditions you’ll probably never encounter. To prove this point, Mercedes debuted their latest tv spot for the Mercedes-Benz Summer Event titled, “Heat”.

We’ve already received quite a bit of feedback on this commercial, and not all positive. As one reader pointed out, “I’d suggest pulling the ad wherein the hot-shot driver needs to douse himself down with water after driving your car. Is there something THAT wrong with the air-conditioning? Das ist nicht sehr gut. Das ist sehr komish. So much for Deutsche engineering.” He makes a good point that we hadn’t considered when watching.

Ram Trucks Super Bowl Commercial “Farmer”

And on the eighth day, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, “I need a caretaker.” So God made a farmer.

God said, “I need somebody willing to get up before dawn, milk cows, work all day in the field, milk cows again, eat supper, then go to town and stay past midnight at a meeting of the school board.” So God made a farmer.

God said, “I need somebody willing to sit up all night with a newborn colt and watch it die, then dry his eyes and say,’Maybe next year,’ I need somebody who can shape an ax handle from an ash tree, shoe a horse with hunk of car tire, who can make a harness out hay wire, feed sacks and shoe scraps. Who, during planting time and harvest season will finish his 40-hour week by Tuesday noon and then, paining from tractor back, put in another 72 hours.” So God made the farmer.

God said, “I need somebody strong enough to clear trees and heave bales, yet gentle enough to yean lambs and wean pigs and tend the pink-comb pullets, who will stop his mower for an hour to splint the leg of a meadowlark.”

It had to be somebody who’d plow deep and straight and not cut corners. Somebody to seed, weed, feed, breed, and brake, and disk, and plow, and plant, and tie the fleece and strain the milk, . Somebody who’d bale a family together with the soft, strong bonds of sharing, who would laugh, and then sigh and then reply with smiling eyes when his son says that he wants to spend his life doing what Dad does. “So God made a farmer.”

Mercedes A45 AMG Driven by F1 Champion Lewis Hamilton

Mercedes AMG F1 Driver Lewis Hamilton tests out the Mercedes A45 AMG in an all new promotional video

Lewis Hamilton is a 28 year old Mercedes AMG F1 driver and world champion that dates a Pussycat Doll, making him the perfect spokesman for the new Mercedes A45 AMG.  He’s in the right age range of those looking to buy the hot hatch, he’s a good driver and he clearly has good taste.

This is Hamilton’s first year for the Mercedes AMG F1 team, coming off a six year run with McLaren, and Mercedes-Benz is taking full advantage of their partnership. Since he signed with Mercedes, Hamilton has been promoting the newest products in the AMG line. After he starred in an A45 AMG ad with fellow Mercedes AMG F1 driver Nico Rosberg (video posted below), Lewis again took out the smallest AMG model to show that “big emotions can fit in small packages.”

The Mercedes A45 AMG sprints 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.6 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h), an impressive feat for a hot hatchback. Hamilton compares the A45 AMG to a Formula 1 car, saying the throttle responses in both cars are similar.  It’s an exaggeration no doubt, but doesn’t it make you want to get behind the wheel and test it for yourself.

A 45 AMG TV Commercial “Apparition”

2014 Mercedes E63 AMG Opposites Attract Commercial

Light and shadow, force and grace: when opposites fuse together, they create the new Mercedes E 63 AMG

Light and shadow, force and grace: when opposites fuse together, they create something unique, like the new Mercedes E 63 AMG. With the performance-orientated AMG all-wheel drive 4MATIC and the particularly powerful output of 430 KW (585 hp), the S-Model sets new standards.

The new 2014 E63 AMG 4MATIC now features a redesigned, performance-oriented AMG all-wheel-drive system as standard equipment and is also available as an especially powerful SModel with output of 577 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The 5.5-liter AMG V8 Biturbo continues to be the benchmark of efficiency: No other competitor in this segment offers this combination of maximum performance and low fuel consumption. Permanent all-wheel drive is standard on all U.S. models – which also feature a power increase from 518 hp to 550 hp with a peak torque of 531 lb-ft. With this step Mercedes-AMG now for the first time offers powerful passenger cars with an all-wheel-drive system designed for vehicle dynamics. The 2014 E63 AMG 4MATIC goes on-sale in the U.S. this summer.

With the introduction of the new custom-tailored models, Mercedes-AMG offers its customers even more individuality than before. The 2014 E63 AMG 4MATIC is more powerful and sports a more dynamic outfit than all its predecessors: Even at first glance the new AMG design philosophy is immediately apparent. The new “twin blade” radiator grille and a new “A-wing” in the AMG front fascia define the exclusive appearance. As before, the top-of-the-line E-Class AMG model is available as a sedan and wagon. Also adding significantly to the new models’ appeal is the marked improvement in the price-performance ratio: E63 AMG 4MATIC customers now get even more power, better vehicle dynamics and a more extensive list of standard equipment.

The new product logic also benefits the CLS63 AMG: Like the E63 AMG 4MATIC, the CLS63 AMG is available as an S-Model and with the performanceoriented AMG all-wheel-drive system 4MATIC as standard. The addition of the E63 AMG and the CLS63 AMG means there are now also two all-wheel-drive passenger car models available from Mercedes-AMG besides the successful ML63 AMG, GL63 AMG, and G63 AMG SUV’s. Additional models equipped with the performance-oriented AMG all-wheel-drive system 4MATIC such as the CLA45 AMG will follow this year.

Ola Källenius, CEO Mercedes-AMG GmbH: “The philosophy of Mercedes-AMG is driving performance. With the new model variants of the E63 AMG 4MATIC and CLS63 AMG 4MATIC it is also becoming clear that we offer our customers even more individuality than before. In particular the S-Models represent the most attractive offer in the competitive segment and score decisive points with a significant improvement in their price-performance ratio: The most power and the highest torque in the segment, the new performance-oriented AMG allwheel- drive system, the new design and a significantly more extensive standard-equipment package are among the outstanding strengths of the new high-performance automobiles from Affalterbach. With the innovative allwheel- drive S-Models we will reach new customers and markets.”

Tobias Moers, head of overall vehicle development and member of the management board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH: “We have significantly honed the dynamic profile of the 2014 E63 AMG 4MATIC and the CLS63 AMG 4MATIC with the exclusive S-Models. Only AMG offers customers power and torque figures of such magnitude. Our AMG 5.5-liter V8 engine is still the world’s most efficient V8 built in series production. With the newly developed performance-oriented AMG all-wheel-drive system 4MATIC we not only deliver the best acceleration figures in the competitive segment, we also offer our customers markedly better vehicle dynamics than ever before.”

Mercedes-Benz Super Bowl Commercial Hit or Miss

"It is the best performing ad campaign I have seen since I started tracking Super Bowl ad performance" - Jeremy Anwyl from Edmunds

We want to know what you thought of the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class Super Bowl Commercial.  Was it a hit or a miss?  In the event that you are one of the few people left in the country that have not seen the latest Mercedes CLA Ad, you can check it out below along with the Kate Upton car washing commercial.  If you’re not interested in seeing the CLA commercials, click here to take a look at the CLA 180 Edition 1 that we are all in love with.

As for what the experts had to say about the Mercedes-Benz Super Bowl campaign, read on.

Ask Steve Cannon, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA what he wanted from the multi-prong marketing campaign the company put together for Super Bowl XLVII and he will say, “The goal was to create a compelling story which would introduce a new product – our 2014 CLA coupe — at a first-ever price point in a way that would not only get people talking but also begin to get them interested and engaged.”

According to Cannon – and various industry barometers — the campaign that Mercedes-Benz launched on January 20th did just that.

Right off the top, Mercedes-Benz benefited from the fact that the game was played at the “Mercedes-Benz Superdome” (the company invested in naming rights in 2011). ImageTrack powered by Kantar Media — IEG’s sponsorship/advertising broadcast monitoring service — projected that this would result in Mercedes-Benz receiving 6 minutes and 19 seconds of exposure during the game, valued at approximately $4.6 million. If the fourth-quarter for the CLA was then included, the total media exposure value was projected to exceed $12 million.

The campaign itself consisted of five elements. An advertising teaser campaign with four :15 spots and one :30 went into rotation during the AFC championships on January 20 queuing up the ad with the “Something…is coming,” tag. Two days later, the company released an online video (the parody of the stereotypical bikini clad model washing a car had Kate Upton playing to the camera while a bevy of good-looking young guys soaped up her car) which went viral and garnered close to three million views by the next day without the benefit of any paid media (it’s now at 7 million). This was followed by a long-form version of the Super Bowl ad “Soul” and then a “Behind the Scenes” online video. Combined, these four creative executions netted nearly 10 million views before the final element, the 60-second version of the ad was released (to date, that tally is well over 13 million).

“But,” notes Bernie Glaser, VP of marketing for MBUSA “To really amortize your investment, you’ve got to go deeper than measuring entertainment popularity. The real magic lies in converting awareness into consumer interest. Engaging people enough to go out of their way to find out more about your product — that’s the real payout.”

The ad itself, set in New Orleans where MBUSA has strong philanthropic ties in addition to its presence there, drives home an actual selling point – the CLA’s price. Created by Merkley+Partners (NYC), the storyline involves a devilish Willem Dafoe offering a young man a Mercedes CLA and all that comes with it — a red carpet moment with Kate Upton, a dance-off with Usher, a drive on the Formula 1 racetrack etc.—in exchange for his soul. But just when the young guy is about to make the deal, he spies a billboard touting the CLA’s MSRP of $29,900 and vanquishes Dafoe saying “I think I’ve got this.”

And, as the various industry ad metrics started to roll in, data shows that MBUSA’s spot itself “got this” and a whole lot more with audiences.

According to Ace Metrics, an independent analytics company which measures advertising effectiveness, “Soul” scored the highest of any automotive advertisement and tied for the 4th highest score overall for all ads on the Super Bowl.

As far as concrete evidence of effectiveness and engagement, Edmunds.com, one of the leading car information sites where potential buyers go to do their research, reported that the CLA had the highest jump in vehicle consideration both during the Game and in the 24-hour period that followed. Nearly one out of every five consumer searches during the fourth quarter was for the new sporty four-door coupe. In fact, queries for the entire Mercedes-Benz brand on the Edmunds website were up 122% from the average of the four previous Sundays, giving the brand the number one spot for consideration among all luxury makes during the Game.

“The CLA was the number one shopped vehicle on Edmunds.com over the weekend,” said Vice Chairman Jeremy Anwyl from Edmunds.com. “It is the best performing ad campaign I have seen since I started tracking Super Bowl ad performance. The CLA obviously connected with a vast audience, demonstrating Mercedes Benz is enjoying early success as it reaches to a new generation of luxury vehicle buyers.”

Looking ahead, the ad has its second broadcast appearance during the Academy Awards in late February. Its biggest star, the CLA, makes a brief appearance at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week starting today and will appear at the U.S. Open, the PGA Championship and other high-profile events that MBUSA sponsors. Digital and social media activations will be released over the next few months (the company’s Facebook page Facebook.com/Mercedes-Benz USA is currently offering select fans an opportunity to see the CLA in an expense-paid trip to New York in conjunction with the New York Auto Show) as the September launch of the sporty 208-hp four-door coupe draws near.

Video: Mercedes-Benz CLA Untamed

Ready to attack like a predator, the Mercedes CLA demonstrate its power in a battle between machine and beast

Ready to attack, like a predator about to pounce. Watch this film and see the new Mercedes-Benz CLA demonstrate its power in a duel between machine and beast.

Not interested in videos, click here to check out the complete CLA photo gallery and Quick Reference guide with technical specs and equipment list.

The CLA250 and CLA250 4MATIC both feature Mercedes-Benz’s 2.0-liter four- cylinder gasoline engine with 208 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. It comes with the ECO stop/start function as standard for added gas mileage and is mated to the 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission for an outstanding combination of sporty performance and comfort.

The CLA’s sporty proportions and powerfully dynamic design language featuring the interaction of concave and convex surfaces give this four-door coupe its distinctive look. The CLA carries the avant-garde design of the Concept Style Coupe into series production almost 1:1.

Striking features include the hood with its power domes and the diamond-look grille. The arrangement of the headlights and LEDs behind the headlamp lens evokes the characteristic “flame effect” for the optional daytime running lights and indicators. This light signature is a key aspect of the car’s energetic look and shapes a new, youthful Mercedes face.

The exterior’s progressive, sporty appearance also carries through to the vehicle interior. Anthracite surface finish is available as the standard trim. Additional trim options include burl walnut wood, black ash wood and aluminum.

The instrument panel incorporates five air vents. The outer rings of the vents are done in a high-quality galvanized finish, while a galvanized insert controls the direction of airflow. The free-standing display is set in black piano-lacquer trim and edged with a flush-fitting silver frame.

Kate Upton Mercedes Super Bowl Ad (Maybe)

Could this be the Kate Upton Mercedes-Benz Super Bowl Commerical

We recently told you Mercedes had enlisted Kate Upton, possibly the sexiest girl of the century (see Kate Upton photo gallery here), to help promote the new CLA-Class in an upcoming Super Bowl commercial.  Today, a video has emerged highlighting Kate with the CLA-Class – a video that could Kate Upton’s Super Bowl commercial, but I’m guessing probably isn’t.  Instead, it looks like more of a teaser video for Kate Upton teaming up with the Mercedes CLA, with the real tv spot coming later, because quite frankly, the video is less than exciting.

In the shoot (which is entitled Kate Upton washes the all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA in slow motion), Kate does not in fact wash the CLA.  Instead, she watches some high school guys wash it, while she models some vaguely sexy poses (although she does have bubbles on her hand).  It’s sort of like a GoDaddy / Danica Patrick ad, except it lacks all the sexiness.  Instead, it’s sort of like an exercise in corporate censorship.

2013 Mercedes SL63 AMG Commercial with Boris Becker – Video

The SL63 AMG is available with two power outputs, 537 hp and 800 Nm of torque & with the AMG Performance package 564 hp and 900 Nm

Mercedes-Benz released a new commercial for the 2013 SL63 AMG that features German tennis superstar Boris Becker.  In case you aren’t familiar with Becker, He is a six-time Grand Slam singles champion, an Olympic gold medalist, and the youngest-ever winner of the men’s singles title at Wimbledon at the age of 17.  The commercial certainly doesn’t fit the SL63 AMG, but it does give a nice look at Mercedes’ new SL AMG.
