More driving pleasure also comes courtesy of the new, integral dynamic handling control system AMG DYNAMICS as well as AMG Traction Control (in the C 63 S), which serve to further differentiate the handling characteristics of the eight-cylinder models:

  • The C 63 and C 63 S both offer AMG DYNAMICS, a new feature of the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs. This built-in dynamic handling control extends the functions of the ESP® (Electronic Stability Program), allowing precisely measured torque distribution on the rear axle, which increases agility while maintaining a high level of stability. AMG DYNAMICS optimises lateral dynamics and maximises traction when cornering.
  • AMG Traction Control allows the driver to have an even more precise influence on the handling characteristics of the new C 63 S. It allows preselection of the slip on the rear axle in one of nine levels. To start with, the driver must switch off the ESP® using the separate button in the centre console (ESP® OFF position). Depending on the setting, the system permits more or less slip on the rear wheels ‑ very helpful in varying road conditions.

Visually, the looks of the new AMG C 63 are even more visually appealing: the AMG-specific radiator trim underscores the brand identity while emphasising the muscular appearance. The interior benefits from an optional fully digital cockpit with unmistakable AMG displays and the new generation of AMG steering wheels.

Here are the key optional extras:

The AMG Exterior Carbon-Fibre package I (3150.50 euros2) lends the vehicle a significant touch of added dynamism from any angle with sporty details in carbon fibre. Alongside the A-wing in the front apron and the side sill panels, the entire lower part of the rear is finished in carbon fibre.

The AMG Aerodynamics Package (2082.50 euros2, available for the C 63 and C 63 S Coupé) creates even sportier highlights: the more expressive front splitter, spoiler lip with integral Gurney flap, broader side skirt inserts, flics in the rear bumper and more expressive diffuser insert are finished in high-gloss black.

The optional AMG Performance seats (2320.50 euros[2]) provide optimum lateral support when adopting a dynamic driving style thanks to the special design of the seat side bolsters of the seat cushion and backrest. As an option, the seat side bolsters can be perfectly adjusted to the body contours by means of built-in air cushions.

With the three AMG-specific display styles “Classic”, “Sporty” or “Supersport”, the all-digital instrument cluster(892.50 euros2) optionally enables the vehicle functions to be experienced directly. The screen diagonal measures 31.2 cm (12.3 inches).

On the C 63 S, the steering wheel comes as standard with a rim in nappa leather/microfibre (additional cost for the C 63: 499.80 euros2). As an option, the AMG steering wheel is available in the finishes nappa leather with trim in black piano lacquer (737.80/238 euros2 for the C 63/C 63 S), entirely in microfibre (583.10/119 euros2for the C 63/C 63 S) and also microfibre with trim in high-gloss carbon fibre (975.80/476 euros2 for C 63/C 63 S). As an option the AMG steering wheel can be fitted with innovative additional elements (standard for the C 63 S, additional cost for the C 63: 416.50 euros2). They consist of a round controller with an integral display beneath the right-hand steering-wheel spoke, plus two vertically positioned colour display buttons beneath the left-hand steering-wheel spoke. The AMG drive programs can be actuated directly via the controller.

As the virtual race engineer for recording data when driving on closed-off race tracks, AMG TRACK PACE provides a significantly extended and even more precise scope of functions. AMG TRACK PACE is a standard component of the optional COMAND Online infotainment system in the C 63 S, while in the C 63 it comes at an additional cost of 297.50 euros2.

The optional ENERGIZING comfort control (238 euros2) is also available for the new C 63. It networks together the various comfort systems in the vehicle and uses specific functions of the air conditioning and seats (heating, ventilation) plus lighting and music moods. Depending on the mood or requirement of the driver, it generates a special wellness set-up to enhance well-being and performance.

The New Mercedes-AMG C 63 Cabriolet

The new C 63 Cabriolet combines an intensive open-air ambience with the AMG V8 engine to create an exhilarating performance experience

The new C 63 Cabriolet combines an intensive open-air ambience with the AMG V8 engine to create an exhilarating performance experience. The biturbo engine developed in Affalterbach is available in two output ratings with 350 kW (476 hp) or 375 kW (510 hp) and provides performance on a par with a sports car. Flared wheel arches at the front and rear, the wide track and the large wheels underscore the powerful looks. The agile longitudinal and lateral dynamics come courtesy of the sophisticated AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with adaptive damping adjustment, the rear-axle limited-slip differential and the dynamic engine mounts.

Performance-oriented automotive enthusiasts can enjoy the largest selection in the market segment with the Mercedes-AMG C-Class: it is now available in a total of twelve versions as Saloon, Estate, Coupé and Cabriolet; with a choice of V6 biturbo engine and all-wheel drive or V8 biturbo engine in two output ratings, rear-wheel drive and rear-axle limited-slip differential. “The C-Class is a decisive factor in our company’s success. The new combination of intensive open-air ambience and powerful V8 engine is unique in the segment and perfectly supplements our large C-Class range”, says Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. Extensive know-how from motorsport and the passion of the AMG engineers, designers and product managers form the basis for the emotive driving experience with the new Performance Cabriolet. It will be celebrating its world premiere on 23 March 2016 at the New York International Auto Show. The market launch will begin in August 2016.

Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Cabriolet

Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Cabriolet

Unique offering in the segment with V8 biturbo engine

In its competitive field the new C 63 Cabriolet is exceptional in every respect, being the only vehicle in the segment to boast an 8-cylinder biturbo engine. Mercedes‑AMG thus meets the wishes of those customers who desire a combination of a highly emotive, unmistakable engine sound and torquey power delivery.

The driver also benefits from the unrivalled performance: the C 63 S Cabriolet accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, the C 63 Cabriolet in 4.2 seconds. The top speed is 250 km/h (electronically limited; 280 km/h with AMG Driver’s Package).

New V8 biturbo closely related to the engine in the Mercedes-AMG GT

The 4.0-litre eight-cylinder biturbo engine is already used in the C 63 Saloon, Estate and Coupé. It is also installed in the GT sports car with dry sump lubrication. A characteristic feature is that the two turbochargers are positioned not on the outside of the cylinder banks, but between them in the “V” – experts call this the “hot inside V”.

The main advantages of this design are the compact engine construction, optimal response and low exhaust gas emissions. A fitter assembles the engine by hand in the engine shop in Affalterbach according to the “one man ‑ one engine” principle.

Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Cabriolet

Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Cabriolet

Exhaust system with flap technology for variable engine sound

The typical V8 engine sound was likewise a key development goal. The Coupé adopted the composition with its sonorous bass tones, powerful mid tones and increasing trebles as the engine speed increases. A model-specific exhaust system with flap technology is used as standard. It is automatically map-controlled depending on the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission mode, the power demanded by the driver and the engine speed. Optionally available is the Performance exhaust system, which allows the sound to be modulated at the press of a button. In any case, the exhaust systems are so designed that all noise limits are complied with irrespective of the flap position.

Faster gearshifts: the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission

The transmission plays a major part in the direct and sporty character of the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 Cabriolet. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission impresses with its tailor-made dynamics and high variability. Whether automatic or initiated by the driver using the steering wheel shift paddles, upshifts and downshifts are executed quickly and immediately. This is achieved by specifically adjusting the engine and transmission parameters.

Specific suspension for maximum lateral and longitudinal dynamics

The fascinating agility and high cornering speed of the C 63 Cabriolet are also thanks to the standard-fit AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with adaptive damping adjustment. This combines a sporty with a comfortable set-up. The driver can select the three suspension settings “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport Plus” via a button in the centre console. Whatever the setting, each wheel is individually electronically controlled automatically.

A four-link front suspension with radial, racing-style brake connections is used. Model-specific steering knuckles and a wider track allow greater lateral acceleration.

The rear axle was completely newly developed for the Coupé and Cabriolet. The multi-link concept ensures highly precise wheel control and increased stiffness. The AMG-specific rear axle carrier makes the wider track possible, with the contact surfaces of the wheel bearings moved out by another 25 millimetres compared with the Saloon and Estate. Other innovations include AMG-specific wheel carriers, stiffer elastokinematic tuning and higher negative camber.

As standard the C 63 Cabriolet is shod with 10-spoke light-alloy wheels 9.0 J x 18 (front) and 10.5 J x 18 (rear) with rims painted titanium grey with a high-sheen finish and tyres in size 255/40 R 18 (front) and 285/35 R 18 (rear). The C 63 S Cabriolet runs on tyres of sizes 255/35 R 19 (front) and 285/30 R 19 (rear) mounted on 9.0 J x 19 (front) and 10.5 J x 19 (rear) 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, also painted titanium grey with a high-sheen finish.

Other tyre/wheel combinations are optionally available. These include mixed-size tyres with forged cross-spoke wheels, painted matt black with high-sheen rim flange. The front axle features tyres of size 255/35 R 19 on 9.0 J x 19 wheels. The rear axle is fitted with tyres of size 285/30 R 20 on 10.5 J x 20 wheels.

Rear-axle limited-slip differential: optimal traction, including on the race track

For improved traction and vehicle dynamics, the C 63 Cabriolet is provided with a mechanical rear-axle limited-slip differential, while the C 63 S Cabriolet comes with an electronic version. Both differentials reduce the slip on the inside wheel when cornering, without control interventions in the braking system. The advantage: it allows the driver to accelerate out of corners earlier thanks to the improved traction. The car remains more stable when braking from high speeds, and the limited-slip differential also improves traction when moving off. The model-specific, completely redesigned rear axle was specially adapted to the higher vehicle dynamics of the Cabriolet.

The greatest benefit from the electronic rear-axle limited-slip differential – which is installed as standard exclusively on the C 63 S – is the even more sensitive and faster control, which pushes the thresholds higher and makes it even easier to drive at the vehicle’s limits. The 3-stage ESP® with “ESP ON”, “ESP SPORT Handling Mode” and “ESP OFF” settings works in perfect unison with the rear-axle limited-slip differential and is optimally tuned to the outstanding dynamics.

AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes

The driver is able to influence the characteristics of the C 63 with four different AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes. The driver decides on the desired driving experience, from comfortable-economical to super-sporty, using a controller to the left of the touchpad.

“Comfort” is the well-balanced transmission mode with a comfort-oriented suspension and steering set-up, as well as a fuel-efficient powertrain configuration – including smooth gearshifts and a discreet engine note. The “sailing function” for a further reduction in fuel consumption is new: when the driver releases the accelerator in a speed range between 60 and 160 km/h, the clutch of the MCT transmission is disengaged and the engine is decoupled from the powertrain. The electronics reduce the engine speed to idle level, and the driving resistance is reduced by the compression and frictional forces of the engine in overrun mode.

The transmission modes “Sport” and “Sport Plus” enhance the sporty intensity. The C 63 S also comes with the “RACE” mode, which provides the optimum setting for challenging laps on private racing circuits.

C 63 S with dynamic engine mounts as standard

Unique in its segment, the C 63 S Cabriolet – like the Saloon, Estate and Coupé – is equipped with dynamic engine mounts. These help to further resolve the conflicting aims of comfort and dynamic performance. These dynamic mounts are very quickly and variably able to adapt their stiffness to the driving conditions and requirements. Soft engine mounts improve comfort, as they provide more effective decoupling of noise and vibration. However, handling and agility benefit from a generally stiffer mount set-up. These measures enhance the vehicle’s precision when driven dynamically. For example, the steering response and feedback are even more direct.

Precise, agile handling

The electromechanical, speed-sensitive sports steering ensures precise, agile handling. The driver benefits from the direct, linear steering ratio of 14.1:1 and an optimised response.

It also features variable power assistance with the three characteristics “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport Plus”. The power steering is not only speed-sensitive but also factors in the current lateral acceleration, the selected AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission mode or the setting of the AMG RIDE CONTROL adaptive damping.

The high-performance braking system of the C 63 Cabriolet ensures short stopping distances and excellent control with large cross-drilled and vented brake discs measuring 360 millimetres in diameter at the front and rear. The C 63 S Cabriolet is fitted with compound brake discs at the front with a diameter of 390 millimetres to account for the increased performance. A high-performance compound braking system with ceramic discs measuring 402 millimetres in diameter on the front axle is optionally available for the C 63 S Cabriolet. They weigh just half of comparable conventional brake discs and as a result reduce unsprung masses. This in turn substantially improves the steering response.

Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Cabriolet

Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Cabriolet

Design visualizes performance

The impressive proportions of the Mercedes-AMG C 63 Cabriolet instantly catch the eye. The 8-cylinder engine, together with the increased track width on the front and rear axles, called for a redesigned front end and a model-specific rear assembly as well as new side walls. The flared wheel arches make the AMG Cabriolet 64 millimetres wider at the front and 66 millimetres wider at the rear compared with the standard Cabriolet, enabling the vehicle to hug the road better.

Two striking powerdomes adorn the 60 millimetre longer aluminium bonnet, underscoring the powerful looks. The typical AMG “A-wing” front spoiler also serves as an air deflector for the three cooling air intakes. Additional flics ensure an optimal flow of air to the cooling modules in the wheel arches. A front splitter at the bottom of the front apron helps to reduce front-axle lift. The low, arrow-shaped “twin blade” radiator grille with AMG lettering also visually lowers the vehicle’s centre of gravity.

The side line, too, presents an entirely unique face thanks to the large wheels, which finish flush with the body on the far outside, and the special side skirts. The lateral inward step from door to sill lends additional emphasis to the wide base.

The multi-layered fabric soft top with glass window follows the Coupé’s roof line with the top closed, thus reinforcing the impression of a meticulously modelled sculpture. Frameless doors, fully retractable side windows and the absence of a visible B-pillar further enhance the side view. Refined detail: in typical sports car fashion, the exterior rear-view mirrors are mounted on the door rather than in the mirror triangle.

With the roof open, the meticulous coordination between exterior and interior design becomes apparent. High-grade details include the matt chrome trim on the A-pillar and windscreen as well as a beltline moulding, which extends as far as the soft-top compartment, and borders this with a broad matt chrome trim.

The rear with its all-new styling comes across as very sporty thanks to the broad shoulders and echoes a typical motorsport feature with the diffuser insert. The special design of the laterally positioned, optical air outlet openings improves the rear air flow, allowing it to break away with aerodynamically advantageous precision. Features such as the narrow rear reflectors reinforce the impression of width. The two chrome-plated twin tailpipes of the AMG exhaust system are harmoniously integrated into the diffuser. A narrow spoiler lip is placed on the boot lid. Painted in the body colour, its elegant shape is reminiscent of a sharp blade.

Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Cabriolet

Mercedes-AMG C 63 S Cabriolet

Interior with high-class appeal

The interior of the C 63 Cabriolet offers a wealth of fine details: carefully selected, high-grade materials whose feel and precise workmanship produce a level of perceived quality that is rare even in the higher vehicle classes.

The instrument panel is trimmed with black ARTICO man-made leather with contrasting topstitching. The wing-like aluminium trim and the analogue clock in IWC design (depending on specification) underscore the high-quality impression. The touchpad is flanked by the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT switch and numerous AMG-specific controls such as the button for the 3-stage AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension, 3-stage ESP® or optionally the button for the AMG Performance exhaust system with flap control.

A sporty and dynamic ambience is also ensured by the 3-spoke Performance steering wheel with a 12 o’clock marking and the instrument cluster. Equipped with specific dials in carbon-fibre look, the speedometer reads up to 320 km/h. Performance seats are also available as an alternative to the standard-fit sports seats: these allow the occupants a lower seating position and are more strongly contoured for increased lateral support.

Intelligent cabriolet concept

Intelligent functions such as operation of the fabric soft top while driving (up to 50 km/h, initiated below 5 km/h), the optional AIRSCARF neck-level heating or the automatic AIRCAP draught-stop provide extraordinary comfort with open-top motoring, 365 days a year. With a capacity of 355 litres (260 litres with the roof open), the luggage compartment is capable of holding an exceptional amount of luggage for a cabriolet, thus offering high everyday practicality.

Exclusive options include the fully automatic fabric acoustic soft top, which is available in the colours black, dark brown, dark blue or dark red. The multi-layered structure incorporating various insulation materials effectively reduces ambient noise and thus reduces the interior noise level.

Jan Stecker, automotive expert and TV host for various automotive magazines, gives  an exclusive walk-around of the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S. The clip was shot in the AMG delivery hall in Affalterbach and provides a detailed look at the latest vehicle of Mercedes-AMG – A car that definitely accelerates independence.

Pure fascination and breathtaking dynamics – the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 sets benchmarks. The high-tech drive, the signature AMG handling and the high level of individuality in equipment choices guarantee an utterly unique driving experience. The top model in the C-Class line-up is driven by a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine closely related to the power unit that provides breathtaking propulsion in the Mercedes-AMG GT. The power spectrum ranges from 350 kW (476 hp) in the C 63 to 375 kW (510 hp) in the C 63 S. With an unrivalled fuel consumption figure of just 8.2 liters per 100 kilometres (NEDC combined), the C 63 is the most fuel-efficient eight-cylinder car in the high-performance segment. The extensive range of standard equipment includes the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers, the mechanical rear locking differential and the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programmes. The highly exclusive “Edition 1” is available from market launch.

Dynamics plus long-distance comfort – as a sports saloon and high-performance estate car, the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 offers compelling engine data with exceptionally low consumption figures, outstanding longitudinal and lateral dynamics and a high level of everyday usability. The interior and exterior design is more distinctive than ever before.

The V8 top model in the C-Class is available in a choice of four variants – the saloon and the estate are both offered as the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S and C 63, with the C 63 S set up for even more dynamic handling and performance. The Mercedes-AMG C 63 celebrates its world premiere on 2 October 2014 together with the show premiere of the Mercedes-AMG GT at the Salon de l’Automobile in Paris. Market introduction begins in February 2015 with the more powerful C 63 S Saloon with 375 kW (510 hp). The C 63 with 350 kW (476 hp) and the C 63 S Estate will follow in April 2015.

“We are also marking the beginning of a new era with the new nomenclature. The successor to the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG, which has been incredibly successful worldwide, will now be called the Mercedes-AMG C 63,” says Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “At 40,000 units, the 204 C 63 AMG was the bestselling AMG model. We will now add to this success with the new Mercedes-AMG C 63. Be it in drive, handling or equipment, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 sets new benchmarks and will further strengthen our brand promise ‘Driving Performance’. AMG customers can look forward to an exceptionally dynamic driving experience.”

2015 Mercedes-AMG C63 And C63S

The new Mercedes-AMG C63 will be offered as a a standard model and a more potent S-badged version

Mercedes-Benz’s latest C63 AMG is finally here, and here are all the juicy details including news the car will come in two variants for the first time: a standard model and a more potent S-badged version. The car’s official title has also been changed to Mercedes-AMG C63 to better reflect the fact it’s a product of Mercedes-AMG based in Affalterbach rather than your run-of-the-mill Mercedes. The name change also reflects the link between the car and Mercedes-AMG’s other new baby, the GT sports car, with which it shares its engine.

2015 Mercedes-AMG C63 And C63S

2015 Mercedes-AMG C63 And C63S

The new C63 made its world debut this week at the 2014 Paris Auto Show in sedan and ‘Estate’ wagon bodystyles. As with the regular C-Class, we’ll only get the C63 sedan here in the U.S. It will arrive in showrooms next March as a 2015 model, in both C63 and C63 S flavors.

Both versions feature AMG’s all-new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8, which has been tuned to deliver 469 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque in the C63, and 503 hp and 516 lb-ft in the C63 S (note, the C63’s engine code is M177 versus M178 in the GT sports car). We know what you’re thinking: the hp figure of the C63 S matches the output of the GT S sports car but the torque figure is actually 37 lb-ft higher! By comparison, the 2015 BMW M3 is rated at just 425 hp and 406 lb-ft, while the 2015 Lexus RC F makes do with 467 hp and 389 lb-ft.

But the story doesn’t end there. In addition to class-leading output, the 2015 Mercedes-AMG C63 is also promised to have the best fuel economy for V-8 performance cars. AMG says the car is around 32 percent more efficient than the model it replaces and good for 28.6 mpg on the European combined cycle. It should be noted that EPA-rated fuel economy tends to be lower than the European figures.

Drive is sent to the rear wheels only—AMG is yet to mention if a 4MATIC all-wheel-drive version will be offered—via an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT seven-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The gearbox is carried over from the previous C63 but has been tuned for even faster shifts. It offers various modes including a Race mode exclusive to the C63 S.

With all functions set to their most optimal settings via the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT system, AMG estimates the new C63 will sprint to 62 mph from rest in just 4.0 seconds, while the C63 S will achieve the same feat in 3.9 seconds. Top speed for both is limited to 155 mph. The weight of the C63 is approximately 3,615 lbs, while the C63 S is slightly heavier at 3,648 lbs.

2015 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMGOther performance upgrades, either standard or available, include an adjustable exhaust system, dynamic engine mounts, adjustable dampers, a rear differential and speed-sensitive steering. Most of these features can be adjusted using the aforementioned AMG DYNAMIC SELECT system, which is controlled via a switch located next to the center console-mounted touchpad. Options the driver has includes Controlled Efficiency, Sport, Sport + and the C63 S-exclusive Race. The C63 gets 18-inch wheels as standard while the C63 S gets a 19-inch set. Steel brakes are standard on both but carbon ceramic brakes are available, a first for the model line.

Inside, the C63 builds on the stunning design of the standard C’s cabin by adopting a few special features such as the dash’s aluminum wing, an IWC-design clock, sports steering wheel and pedals, and bucket seats. There are also AMG logos located around the cabin and in the different menu systems of the digital interface.

As mentioned, sales of the 2015 Mercedes-AMG C63 and C63 S commence next March. While it’s sad that we miss out on the wagon, we can look forward to other C63 variants in the future such as a coupe and eventually a Black Series range-topper.

Like the sedan, the estate will be offered as a C63 AMG and C63 AMG S and will feature the V8 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine capable of outputting 476 HP (350 kW) between 5,500 rpm and 6,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) available in the 1,750 rpm and 4,500 rpm range  in the C63 AMG and 510 HP (375 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) in the same rpm ranges in the C63 AMG S.

The C63 AMG Estate needs 4.2 seconds to hit 62 mph, a mere 0.1s slower than the sedan while the C63 AMG S Estate does its sprint in 4.1 seconds again only 0.1 seconds slower than the C63 AMG S Sedan. All version and body styles have a 155 mph (250 km/h) electronic limiter.

Mercedes C63 AMG Photos and Details Leaked

There will be two version of the C63 AMG, a 469 HP version with 479 lb-ft of torque and a C63S that is capable of outputting an impressive 503 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque

The Mercedes C63 AMG wasn’t due to make its world debut until tomorrow, but as seems to be the recent trend, photos of the C63 AMG completely uncovered have been leaked.  As we initially suspected, the massivly powerful new C63 AMG will receive the 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 that is also seen in the AMG GT.

There will be two version of the C63 AMG, a 469 HP version with 479 lb-ft of torque and a C63S that is capable of outputting an impressive 503 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque connected to a 7-speed AMG SpeedShift MCT gearbox. – either way you go, you’ll receive a nice bump over the prior C63 AMG’s 451 hp from the 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8.

According to Autocar the sedan, note they specify sedan as there will be a wagon as well, version will weight 3,615 pounds, and can do zero to 62 mph (100 kmh) in 4.2 seconds, which is about what the 2015 BMW M3 will do.

C63 AMG to get 510bhp

Official word from Mercedes-Benz HQ: new super-saloon to get engine from AMG GT

It’s official: the new Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG will get the engine from the AMG GT supercar, and develop 510bhp. Woohoo!

In a statement confirming what many of us kind of expected, AMG boss Tobias Moers said the new car would again use a V8, and it’s all thanks to AMG’s hardcore base.

“It goes without saying that the successor to the current C63 AMG will again be powered by an eight-cylinder engine,” Moers said. “We owe that to our loyal fans, plain and simple.” Good.

So, it’s a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 unit, developing that headline 510bhp and a whopping 516lb ft of torque, based on the same engine used in the upcoming AMG GT S supercar. Which means it’ll use the same turbo arrangement, where the turbochargers are placed inside the ‘V’ of the cylinders rather than outside. Unsurprisingly, AMG calls it ‘hot inside V’.

That headline power figure also makes it nearly as powerful as the most powerful C63 ever built, the 517bhp C63 Black Series (pictured above). A Clarkson favourite. We can only begin to imagine how much power the next C63 Black will feature if this one’s got 510 horsepowers.

Clarkson: head to head in the C63 AMG Black and BMW M3 GTS

Tobias also notes how this engine will achieve “absolute best economy in the comparative segment”, returning 34.6mpg. That’s not bad for a bloody fire-breathing V8 super saloon, though good luck getting that if you actually buy one.

Mercedes has also confirmed that the new C63 will be offered in both saloon and estate variants, again, as expected, and “will shortly celebrate its world premiere”.

2015 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Estate Prototypes

the C63 AMG will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter engine

The spy photographers over at WCF were able to catch the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Estate prototypes undergoing testing on the Nürburgring.  (check out the photo gallery below)

Allegedly set for a September 24 online reveal in both sedan an estate body styles, the C63 AMG will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter engine. In the AMG GT it will generate 462 PS (340 kW) and 510 PS (375 kW) in the AMG GT-S while the C63 AMG’s output is probably going to be somewhere in the middle. There are also talks about an S-Model variant with slightly more PS but this still hasn’t been confirmed yet.

The C63 AMGs will get the usual ingredients from Affalterbach such as a slightly more aggressive body with bigger vents, muscular wheel arches, lower sports suspension and a quad pipe setup. The cars will also boast enlarged brakes and several cabin tweaks to better differentiate the AMG model from the standard version.

Mercedes-Benz plans on expanding the C63 AMG lineup in the years to come with similar versions of the yet unreleased coupe and cabriolet body styles. Before that, the sedan and wagon will go public in October at the Paris Motor Show, with sales to commence before the end of the year.

Mercedes C63 AMG Spied in China

The upcoming Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Sedan has been spied up close in China ahead of a full reveal allegedly scheduled for September 24.

The upcoming Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Sedan has been spied up close in China ahead of a full reveal allegedly scheduled for September 24.

The white prototype was spotted wearing a minimal amount of camouflage and the photographers were able to snap a few shots of the interior cabin which had leather-wrapped sport seats and a different speedometer going all the way up to 320 km/h (199 mph). On the outside it had the usual AMG ingredients such as the beefier bumpers, larger alloys, a quad exhaust setup and a lowered sports suspension.

Power will be provided by a newly developed twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter engine sourced from the AMG GT. In the latter it will churn 510 PS (375 kW) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) but most likely AMG’s engineers will offer a slightly detuned version in the C63 AMG with approximately 480 PS (353 kW) and slightly more in the rumored S-Model that will also come with revised styling and larger brakes.

A public debut which will also include the estate version will occur at the beginning of October during the Paris Motor Show when Mercedes-Benz will also open up the order books. Deliveries should kick off before the end of the year or early 2015.

2015 Mercedes C63 AMG Spied With Minimal Camo

The 2015 Mercedes C63 AMG will come with a twin-turbocharged V8 4.0-liter engine created by joining together two of the 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter engines which currently power the entire AMG A-Class lineup

It’s only been a couple of weeks since we saw the 2015 C63 AMG testing on the Nürburgring covered in camo – today we have new photos the 2015 Mercedes C63 AMG out testing but with less camo then we’ve seen before.

With less camo up front, we’re able to see the aggressive AMG vents. But the real story of the C63 AMG is what’s under the hood – a twin-turbocharged V8 4.0-liter engine created by joining together two of the 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter engines which currently power the entire AMG A-Class lineup including the A45, CLA45, GLA45 AMG. The standard C63 AMG engine will output around 480 bhp (358 kW) with the possibility of a S version that would offer even more power, larger brakes and slightly modified interior and exterior styling.

Mercedes C63 AMG “S” Model in the Works

The Mercedes C63 AMG will be joined by a more powerful and slightly restyled "S" Model

The Mercedes C63 AMG Sedan, which will be unveiled in October, is set to receive its power from a V8 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine that’s capable of outputting around 480 bhp (358 kW) – but that’s the standard model. LeftLaneNews recently reported that a source close to Mercedes-Benz revealed to them that there will be a more powerful “S” version with larger brakes and different interior & exterior styling.

None of the two cars will be offered with a dual-clutch transmission since Coupled with high-developement costs and the fact that Mercedes-Benz doesn’t believe there is enough customer demand for a dual-clutch transmission, neither the standard AMG nor a “S” model will be offered as such.

Collection of 2015 C63 AMG Sedan Spy Photos

Testing for the 2015 Mercedes C63 AMG has moved South, previously caught winter testing in the Arctic, the C63 AMG is now showing off on the Nürburgring.  Still sporting similar amounts of camo as in Sweden, you can still catch a glimpse of the C63 AMG Saloon’s new bumpers, bonnet, side skirt, spoiler and boot lid.  And of course the prominent black alloys.

Mercedes C63 AMG Spied Up Close Revealing New Details

Interior and Exterior spy photos of the new Mercedes C63 AMG Reveal a beefed up luxury car that will not disappoint

Last week we were treated to the very first spy photos of the C63 AMG Estate and a side by side look at the outgoing and incoming C63 AMG Sedan.  Now today, we have a close up look at the sedan as never before seen.

It is clear that the highly anticipated, and one of my favorite AMG models, will receive an aggressive body update with sizable air intakes, bulked up side skirts and of course a quad exhaust with AMG alloy wheels.

The interior of the C63 AMG will be updated but without any major changes, carrying over quite a bit from the new standard C-Class.

2015 Mercedes C63 AMG Interior

Mercedes C63 AMG Interior

While the exterior and interior updates look great, what really matters on a Mercedes C63 AMG is what’s under the hood, and Mercedes did not disappoint.  The hot C-Class will be powered by a V8 4.0 Liter Twin-Turbo Engine that can output around 450 HP with a possible Black version delivering closer to 500 HP.

The C63 AMg will have it’s official reveal this year and go on sale in early 2015.  It will then be followed up by an Estate and likely a coupe and cabriolet.

Check out the photo gallery below for a complete look at the spy photos.

Side by Side Look at the New and Old C63 AMG Sedan

2015 Mercedes C63 AMG Sedan Spied testing alongside outgoing model

Just yesterday we brought you the very first photos of the Mercedes C63 AMG Estate, and to ensure it isn’t forgotten, as if it could be, spy photos of the C63 AMG Sedan have emerged.  Sporting minimal camo, the 2015 C63 AMG Sedan was out testing with the outgoing model.  Thanks to the side-by-side comparison, it was easy to notice the smaller spoiler lip on the trunk, a more modest body kit and quad exhaust.

Mercedes C63 AMGs

But the body styling isn’t what truly makes the C63 AMG what it is, it’s what’s under the hood.  In this case, the 2015 C63 AMG Sedan will receive the newly developed V8 4.0 liter twin turbo engine that is capable of 450 HP (331 kW) and in the event of a possible Black Series, those numbers jump to 500+ HP.

No word yet on when we will see an AMG coupe or cabriolet, but rest assured that they’ll come sooner or later and we’ll bring you details when they do.
