Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe Drifting Video

Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé goes drifting with Tobias Moers

The new Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe certainly has all the makings of a seriously lairy car – take one svelte two-door C-Class body and replace the humdrum four/six-cylinder heart with a stonking biturbo V8 that sends all its prodigious power to the rear wheels.

But don’t take our word for it – let AMG CEO Tobias Moers show you by drifting the über sports coupé around the Ascari circuit in Spain in a new video, which you can watch above. Most German businessmen are as dour as they come, but not this one – the “sportiest C-Class of all time” is driven extremely sideways by Moers, the V8 emitting some scintillating growls in the process.

As mentioned, power comes from a 4.0 litre twin-turbocharged V8 that delivers 476 PS from 5,500 to 6,250 rpm and 650 Nm from 1,750 to 4,500 rpm. Those who find those output numbers piffling can opt for the C 63 S, which boosts power up to 510 PS and torque to a heady 700 Nm. Mated to an AMG Speedshift MCT seven-speed automatic gearbox, it sprints to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

To keep all that power on the road, the C 63 Coupe comes with completely revised suspension with AMG Ride Control adaptive dampers, wider tyres, broader front and rear track and a standard-fit mechanical limited-slip differential (electronic on the S), all necessitating the broader haunches that give the car its menacing look and presence.

2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe

The C63 S Coupe accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, and the C63 Coupe in 3.9 seconds

Mercedes-AMG is setting another milestone in the brand’s history: the new 2017 AMG C63 Coupe is the next step on the way to more technical and visual distinctiveness. The far-reaching technical modifications are evident at first sight: strikingly flared front and rear wheel arches, an increased track width and larger wheels give the C63 Coupe a muscular look while also providing a basis for highly agile longitudinal and lateral dynamics. The brand’s typical “Driving Performance” is also taken to new heights with the C63 Coupe. The AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine, with 469 hp in standard trim or 503 hp in the C63 S, is a completely in-house development from Affalterbach. In addition, the sophisticated AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers, the set-up of the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes, the rear-axle limited-slip differential and the dynamic engine mounts have all been developed by AMG.

The C-Class is Mercedes-AMG’s best-selling model and forms the backbone of the company’s success. Since its launch in 201 , the C-Class Coupe has steadily gained significance, culminating with the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series. “The new AMG C63 Coupe embodies our conception of progress: It offers impressive longitudinal and lateral dynamics at an extremely high level along with improved fuel economy,” said Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH. “In addition, we are making a bold visual statement with the muscular design. Our customers can therefore experience the progress with each of their senses: seeing, hearing, feeling and, above all, driving!” The Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe will celebrate its world premiere on September 15, 2015 at the Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) and will be available in U.S. dealers beginning in the summer of 2016.

Fascinating design visualizes outstanding performance

The Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe already fascinates at first glance with its impressive proportions. The expressive exterior design differs significantly from the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe model, which shares merely the same doors, roof and trunk lid. The powerful 8-cylinder engine, together with the increased track width on the front and rear axles, calls for a redesigned front end and a model- specific rear assembly as well as new front and rear fenders. The flared wheel arches make the AMG Coupe 2.51-inches (64 mm) wider at the front and 2.59- inches (66 mm) wider at the rear, enabling the vehicle to hug the road better.

The larger wheel arches allow the use of wider tires, up to 10 inches (255 millimeters) on the front axle and up to 11.2 inches (285 millimeters) on the rear, contributing to improved lateral acceleration, traction and agility. Under the outer skin, the body structure has been reinforced in key areas to transfer and compensate for the extreme longitudinal and lateral forces the powertrain and suspension are capable of.

The 2.36-inch (60 mm) longer aluminum hood is adorned by two distinctive powerdomes, which are among the typical distinguishing features and underscore the muscular appearance. The extremely wide front section is characterized by large air inlets and precisely positioned aero flics. The low, arrow-shaped “twin blade” grill with AMG lettering visually lowers the vehicle’s center of gravity. The typical AMG “A-wing” front spoiler is three-dimensional, also serving as an air deflector for the three cooling air inlets. Additional aero flics ensure an optimal flow of air to the cooling modules, while a front splitter at the bottom of the front apron helps reduce front-axle lift.

As a result of the newly designed body on the C-Class Coupe, no compromises were required with regard to the connection of the aprons and other components; every joint and light-catching contour blends in harmoniously with the overall design. The side line of the C63 Coupe presents an entirely unique profile thanks to large wheels which finish flush with the body on the far outside and unique side skirts. In the diagonal view from behind, the muscular line from roof to shoulder via the rear quarter panel and wheel cutout looks especially impressive, lending emphasis to the impression of an intricately modelled sculpture with alternating light reflections. In typical sports car fashion, the exterior rear-view mirrors have been mounted on the door rather than on the A-pillar.

Taking its inspiration from the S-Class Coupe, the completely redesigned rear end includes a diffuser insert, a feature typically seen in the world of motor sport. The two chrome-plated twin tailpipes of the AMG exhaust system are perfectly integrated into the diffuser. The special design of the laterally positioned, optical air outlet openings improves rear air flow, allowing it to break away with aerodynamically advantageous precision. Features such as the narrow rear reflectors reinforce the impression of width. The trunk lid includes a narrow spoiler lip in the form of a sharp blade. It not only looks elegant, but also significantly reduces the rear-axle lift.

2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe Interior

Interior with superior perceived quality

Carefully selected, high-grade materials with a pleasant touch and precision workmanship produce a level of perceived quality that is rare even in higher vehicle classes. Numerous AMG-specific controls underscore the motor sport heritage. As an alternative to the standard sports seats in ARTICO/microfiber DINAMICA, Performance seats are also available, which offer occupants a lower seating position and more aggressively contoured bolsters for increased lateral support.

Top on performance

The AMG C63 Coupe occupies an exceptional status among the competition, being the only vehicle in the segment to boast an 8-cylinder biturbo engine. Mercedes- AMG thus meets the wishes of those customers who desire a combination of a highly emotional, unmistakable engine sound with torquey power delivery.

The driver also benefits from unrivalled performance: the C63 S Coupe accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, and the C63 Coupe in 3.9 seconds. This makes the Coupe just a fraction faster than the Sedan – thanks to the wider tires and shorter- legged rear-axle ratios. The top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph on the C63 Coupe, and 180 mph on the C63 S Coupe.

2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe 4.0-liter 8-cylinder biturbo engine

2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe 4.0-liter 8-cylinder biturbo engine

New V-8 biturbo closely related to the engine in the Mercedes-AMG GT

The 4.0-liter 8-cylinder biturbo engine is already used in the C63 Sedan and in the AMG GT S sports car (with dry sump lubrication). This engine features two turbochargers positioned in-between the engine’s cylinder banks, otherwise known as a “hot inside V.” The main advantages of this design are the compact engine construction, optimal response and low exhaust gas emissions.

Exhaust system with flap technology for variable engine sound

The iconic V-8 engine sound was specially tailored for the C63 Coupe. A model- specific exhaust system with flap technology is equipped as standard. It is automatically map-controlled depending on the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission mode, the power demanded by the driver and engine speed. The engine sound varies between a discreet note suitable for long-distance driving and more robust and emotional sound. Optionally available is the Performance exhaust system, which allows the exhaust note to be modulated at the press of a button.

Faster gearshifts: the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sport transmission

The transmission plays a major part in the direct and sporty character of the new Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sport transmission impresses with its tailor-made dynamics and high variability. Whether automatic or initiated by the driver using the steering wheel shift paddles, upshifts and downshifts are executed noticeably faster than in the previous model. This increased response time is made possible by an even sportier set-up of the engine and transmission parameters.

2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe

2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe

Specially developed suspension for maximum lateral and longitudinal dynamics

The impressive agility and high cornering speed of the C63 Coupe are thanks to the completely redesigned suspension. A four-link front suspension with radial, racing- style brake connections is used with model-specific steering knuckles and a wider track, allowing for greater lateral acceleration. The rear axle has also been completely redesigned for the Coupe. The multi-link concept impresses with highly precise wheel control and increased stiffness. The AMG-specific rear axle carrier makes the increased track width possible; the contact surfaces of the wheel bearings were moved about an inch (25 mm) further towards the outside when compared with the Sedan. Other measures include AMG-specific wheel carriers, stiffer elastokinematic tuning and higher negative camber.

With the AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with adjustable damping, the customer can choose between maximum sportiness and excellent long-distance comfort in three stages, all at the press of a button.

Rear-axle limited-slip differential: optimal traction for both road and track

For improved traction and vehicle dynamics, the C63 Coupe is equipped with a mechanical rear-axle limited-slip differential, while the C63 S Coupe comes with an electronic rear-axle limited-slip differential. Both differentials reduce the slip on the inside wheel when cornering without control interventions in the braking system, allowing the driver to accelerate out of corners earlier thanks to the improved traction. Other benefits include increased stability under heavy braking and improved traction upon acceleration. The model-specific, completely redesigned rear axle was specially adapted to the higher vehicle dynamics of the Coupe.

The greatest benefit of the electronic rear-axle limited-slip differential – installed as standard on the C63 S – is the even more precise and faster control, which further raises the critical limit of drivability. The 3-stage ESP® with “ESP ON”, “ESP SPORT Handling Mode” and “ESP OFF” settings works in perfect unison with the rear-axle limited-slip differential and is optimally tuned for the C63 Coupe’s outstanding driving dynamics.

2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe

AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes

The driver is able to influence the characteristics of the C63 with four different AMG DYNAMIC SELECT transmission modes, with the C63 S receiving the additional “Race” mode. The driver is able to choose a desired driving experience, from comfortable and economical to super-sporty, all from a controller to the left of the touchpad. An “Individual” mode can be configured by the driver, offering maximum customizability.

C63 S with dynamic engine mounts as standard

Unique in its segment, the C63 S Coupe – like the Sedan – is equipped with dynamic engine mounts. These help to further resolve the conflicting aims of comfort and dynamic performance. Soft engine mounts improve comfort, as they provide more effective decoupling of noise and vibration, however, handling and agility benefit from a generally stiffer mount set-up. Dynamic mounts are instantly and variably able to adapt their stiffness to the driving conditions and requirements of the driver. These measures enhance the vehicle’s precision when driven dynamically. For example, the steering response and feedback are even more direct.

Safety of the highest caliber

The C63 Coupe offers a supreme level of safety coming standard with ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection system and COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS, which helps to prevent rear-end collisions. Many other optional assistance systems are available to increase both comfort and safety.

2016 Mercedes C63 AMG Unofficial Rendering

The upcoming 2-door version of the latest Mercedes C-Class is expected to make its debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show

The upcoming 2-door version of the latest Mercedes C-Class is expected to make its debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. Ahead of its premiere, a slew of spyshots of the C-Class coupe have surfaced from Germany, giving us a first look at the new C-Class sans 2 doors.

2016 Mercedes C63 AMG

2016 Mercedes C63 AMG

Based on the spyshots, Auto Moto has come up with a rendering of the top-spec C63 AMG Coupe, which could be near accurate if Mercedes-AMG kept the design low-key rather than aggressive, with flaring wheel arches, a sculpted hood, and large wing.

While the front end looks largely similar to its 4-door brother, the lack of 2 extra doors allows for a smooth coupe roofline that flows into the boot. The rear-end features a new set of horizontal wrap-around LED taillamps and a dynamic rear bumper with a quad exhaust system.

Inside, the cabin will retain the C-Class sedan’s award-winning interior, featuring a free-standing COMAND infotainment display paired to a Touchpad controller, 3-spoke multifunction sports steering wheel, ARTICO leather upholstery with contrast stitching, and glossy black center console. The only changes it could get are sportier front seats and a performance-themed interior trim.

The C-Class Coupe will share it engine lineup with the sedan version, including the 4.0L V8 (M178) from the C63. Like the sedan, it will be available in two power states: 476 PS & 650 Nm in the base model and 510 PS & 700 Nm in the S version. Being based on the MRA platform, power is sent to the rear wheels, enabling the BMW M4-rival to hit 0-100 km/h in the sub-4 second category.

Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe Coming in 2016

The Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe will fulfill all of your high powered two-door fantasies

If you’re a fan of the latest Mercedes C 63 AMG saloon but feel all that noise and pace deserves a more aggressive look, you’ll soon be pleased to see that Mercedes is set to launch a sleek coupe version at the start of 2016.

Mercedes C 63 AMG Coupe

Mercedes C 63 AMG Coupe

Seen here being put through its paces by engineers, the hot two-door will hope to replicate the success of the BMW M4, which is predicted to sell more than the M3 saloon over time. The C63 has always sold better as a coupe, too.

Although under heavier disguise than the standard C-Class Coupe we previously spotted, the muscular styling add-ons of the C63 should suit the sleeker bodywork. The rear profile is inspired by the flagship S-Class Coupe, with a curvy rear and wider stance.

The powertrain will remain identical, but that’s no bad thing – the ‘base’ C63 saloon has a very competitive 469bhp, while the S variant gets a whopping 503bhp and 700Nm of torque. It should be able to complete the 0-62mph sprint in just under four seconds.

Who Will Win – 2014 Audi RS5 vs 2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 507 Coupe

Find out which car is superior, the 2014 Audi RS5 or the 2014 Mercedes-Benz C63 507 Coupe

On this episode of Head 2 Head from the Motor Trend Channel, Jonny Lieberman sets out to discover which German hot-rod-personal-luxury-coupe is the best you can get. The 507 Coupe is the last iteration of the W204 C63. With the exception of the very limited-run Black Series, it’s the best C63 that AMG has ever done. Under its hood sits a hand-built, 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V-8 good for 507 horsepower. What more do you want? Perhaps something more high-tech, and that’s where the Audi RS5 comes in. The sexy coupe from Quattro GmbH in Neckarsulm features a 4.2-liter V-8 that spits out 450 hp. That¹s less power than the 507 Coupe makes, true, but the Audi also features AWD, a dual-clutch transmission, bigger wheels and tires, plus a trick torque-vectoring rear differential. Which one is quicker? Which one is more fun to drive? Which one is best? Watch and find out!

GAD Tuned Brabus Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe

Mercedes AMG Built it, Brabus modified it and GAD made it insane

The Brabus Bullit C-Class Coupe, based on the C63 AMG Coupe and fitted with a Bi-turbo V12 engine from a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, it delivered a total of 720hp.  It doesn’t get much better than that.  But it does get better, a lot better. The aftermarket specialists at GAD-Motors unveiled their latest pet project, an upgrade program for the Brabus Bullit C-Class Coupe.

Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe by Vorsteiner

Vorsteiner fitted the C63 Coupe with carbon fiber front add-on spoiler, front vent louver covers, a front hood grill replacement

Back in April, Vorsteiner revealed two renderings of their Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe. This week, Vorsteiner released a new set of photos showing the fully finished demonstration model, complete with carbon fiber parts. The C63 AMG Coupe kit is far more comprehensive than the E63 AMG kit Vorsteiner announced back in 2010. The C63 AMG kit should be available by the summer.

Vorsteiner fitted the C63 Coupe with a new front add-on spoiler, front vent louver covers, a front hood grill replacement, a fender grill cover, side skirt panels, a boot lid replacement with integrated spoiler and a vented rear diffuser. It’s a reasonably comprehensive kit that subtly changes the car’s design but does not go too far. All parts are carbon fiber.

Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe Drifting the Corkscrew – Video Update

An awesome video look at the Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe killing Laguna Seca's infamous Corkscrew

As a way of celebrating 2 million video views on YouTube, Mercedes AMG is thanking their fans with a video. And not just any video, mind you, but a video of the insanely great C63 AMG Coupe drifting around the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Corkscrew, it’s truly one of the most iconic corners in the world – a unique left-right combination that’s most notable for its 18 percent drop in elevation (thus making the driver nearly blind to the track).

It’s a lovely thing watching the C63 AMG Coupe in action, and this video shows you exactly why.  Sit back, hit play and enjoy.

Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe Black Series, BMW M3 GTS, Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 Head to Head

Chris Harris gives us a comprehensive comparison of Germany's three most coveted sports car coupes

Following up yesterday’s video of the C63 AMG Coupe drifting the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca, today’s video features the Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe Black Series, the BMW M3 GTS, and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 are unquestionably the crème de la crème when it comes to engine performance, exclusiveness and price.

Chris Harris, British journalist and host of today’s comparison video on YouTube’s Drive channel, gives us a comprehensive comparison of Germany’s three most coveted sports car coupes.

Chris takes the three cars to Anglesey to see test speed in a timed flying lap and test how well the three cars can “smash their rear tires to bits” as Harris put it.

In the end, the Porsche GT3 was the victor but can you really go wrong with any of the three. It’s a long video but worth a look.

With a maximum output of 380 kW (517 hp), this two-seater is the most powerful C-Class of all time. The German Touring Car Masters (DTM) gets underway at the Hockenheimring on 29 April 2012.

The Safety Car is deployed under the direction of the German Motorsport Association (DMSB), which is responsible for implementing safety measures, ensuring compliance with safety standards and discharging the attendant official sporting functions in accordance with the DTM rules. The C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series Safety Car driven by racing driver Jürgen Kastenholz (44) is intended to ensure maximum safety for racing drivers, spectators and track marshals in case of dangerous situations, such as extreme weather conditions, accidents or other incidents. In response to a radio message from the race organisers, the Safety Car enters the track and leads the DTM field around the circuit until normal racing can be resumed.

The most powerful C-Class of all time stands for spectacular design, technology transfer from the field of motorsport and driving dynamics of the very highest calibre. As such, the C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series only required modification to a few points of detail for deployment as the DTM Safety Car. The most striking feature distinguishing it from the series production version is the aerodynamically optimised light bar on the roof. Energy-efficient, fast-response LEDs in green and orange keep the DTM racing drivers informed of the current situation.

Green: the two central green lights on the front and rear are always active when the C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series enters the field at the beginning of a Safety Car phase. Continuous green is the signal for all DTM drivers to overtake the Safety Car.

  • Orange: as soon as the Safety Car is in position in front of all DTM vehicles, the green LEDs are switched off and the orange LEDs are activated. The flashing orange lights at the outer ends of the light bar indicate that overtaking is absolutely prohibited.
  • The stroboscope-like flashing LED lights on the front and rear remain active throughout the Safety Car phase. The license plate with Safety Car lettering which is illuminated by LEDs on the boot lid provides for better visibility in poor weather.

Engine, power transmission, chassis, suspension and brake system corresponding to series production variant

The AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine corresponds to the series-production engine: with a maximum output of 380 kW (517 hp) and maximum torque of 620 Newton metres it even tops the roughly 377 kW (500 hp) V8 engine in the Mercedes-AMG C-Coupé which is being used in the DTM. The high-speed naturally aspirated engine enables acceleration to 100 km/h from a standing start in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 300 km/h (electronically limited). With the spectators at the race track and the TV audience in mind, the C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series Safety Car is fitted with a modified AMG sports exhaust system. The special rear silencer guarantees a distinctive AMG V8 sound.

Engine cooling, power transmission, chassis and suspension, brake system – these areas have been honed to perfection and did not require any modification. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission with four drive programmes, double-declutching function and RACE START guarantees direct and fast gear-shifting. As is customary in motorsport and typical for a Black Series model, the AMG sports suspension is designed as a coil-over suspension. It covers a broad range of adjustment options for an individual race track set-up. The standard-fit AMG rear-axle differential lock with locking effect in acceleration and deceleration mode combines with the 3-stage ESP® for reliable traction. The AMG high-performance braking system featuring motorsport-tested compound brake disks at the front offers extremely short stopping distances and fade-resistant deceleration performance.

Optional equipment from the AMG Performance Studio

The C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series DTM Safety Car is equipped with the AMG Track package, the AMG Aerodynamics package, the AMG Exterior Carbon-Fibre package and forged AMG light-alloy wheels. The AMG Track package comprises active rear axle gear cooling and sports tyres. The radiator is positioned in front of the diffuser insert in the rear apron, where it effectively takes in the air stream. The specially developed Dunlop Sport Maxx Race sports tyres in size 255/35 R 19 at the front and 285/30 R 19 at the rear are fitted on forged AMG wheels which are painted matt black with a high-sheen rim flange.

The AMG Aerodynamics package includes so-called flics and a functionally designed genuine carbon-fibre front splitter on the front apron, plus a fixed carbon-fibre rear aerofoil with adjustable blade. All three components provide the vehicle with a sharper profile while optimising its aerodynamic balance. The AMG Exterior Carbon-Fibre package covers exterior mirror housings, the inserts in the side sill panels and a diffuser insert in genuine carbon fibre. All optional equipment items come from the AMG Performance Studio and are available ex-factory for every C 63 AMG Coupé Black Series.

Functional race-track atmosphere in the interior

The interior also corresponds to the series production model, with a few exceptions. The two AMG sports bucket seats ensure optimum lateral support for driver and co-driver. In view of the intended deployment on the race track, four-point seat belts are used. Optimum control of the vehicle is guaranteed by the AMG Performance steering wheel in nappa leather/DINAMICA with flattened top and bottom rim sections and aluminium gearshift paddles.

AMG carbon-fibre trim featuring the “AMG Black Series” logo underscores the functional race-track atmosphere. For communication with the race organisers, the Safety Car is equipped with a two-way radio system and TV monitor. The camera located next to the rear license plate provides the co-driver with a view of the DTM cars following the Safety Car. Under the monitor there are four buttons in blue, green, orange and silver for operating the light bar, the stroboscope-type flashing LED lights and the horn.

DTM Safety Car provided by Mercedes-AMG since 2000

Mercedes-AMG has been providing the Safety Car ever since the beginning of the “new” DTM in 2000, alternating with Audi from race to race – and since 2012 with BMW also. In the Formula 1 World Championship, an SLS AMG is deployed as an Official F1 Safety-Car and a C 63 AMG Estate serves as an Official F1 Medical Car.
