It’s the first all-electric vehicle Mercedes-Benz has offered in the United States, but the B-Class Electric Drive is, in a way, just like every other Mercedes-Benz: luxurious, fast and packed with technology. Besides its innovative electric powertrain, the B-Class comes standard with COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, plus available Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and Active Parking Assist.

It utilizes a 177-hp electric motor and front-wheel drive. Mercedes estimates its range at 85 miles and its 0-to-60 time at 7.9 seconds; it can be charged to a 60-mile range on 240 volts in a bit more than two hours. Pricing starts at just over $42,000 and navigation, collision prevention, and mbrace2 are included.

Mercedes B-Class Electric Drive Concept Revealed Ahead of Paris

This concept vehicle is one of the first models to incorporate the term "Electric Drive" into its model designation

At next week’s Paris Motor Show, Mercedes will be unveiling their newest addition to Mercedes-Benz family of electric vehicles. A battery-powered electric variant of the B-Class. This concept vehicle is one of the first models to incorporate the term “Electric Drive” into its model designation. In future, “Electric Drive” lettering will adorn the boot lids of all battery-powered electric passenger cars from Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG and smart.

Similarly to the successful B-Class models with combustion engines, the battery-powered Concept B-Class Electric Drive also combines a comfortable and enjoyable driving experience with full suitability for everyday and family use. The so-called Energy Space in the floor of the vehicle in front of the rear axle ensures that the concept vehicle offers the same generous and variable space inside as the current series production models. The Energy Space provides a safe and space-saving means of accommodating the powerful lithium-ion battery which also has a positive effect on the vehicle’s centre of gravity.

The Concept B-Class Electric Drive is equipped with a 100 kW electric motor whose powerful 310 Newton meters of torque provide for attractive driving dynamics over a range of 200 kilometres. The battery can be charged at any standard domestic 230 V power outlet or alternatively – with rapid charging function – at a 400 V high-voltage terminal.

In the B-Class, Mercedes-Benz has at its disposal an extremely versatile car which is suitable for the most diverse types of drive – from combustion engines through battery-powered drives to the fuel cell. Thanks to Energy Space, the B-Class is the ultimate all-rounder and the Mercedes trailblazer for alternative drives in the compact premium automobile segment. The particularly family-friendly electric car from Mercedes-Benz is almost ready for series production, with the market launch already planned for 2014.

The Paris Motor Show will also feature the world premieres of the production versions of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive and the smart BRABUS electric drive. These new electric cars in three different vehicle categories from Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG and smart demonstrate once again Daimler’s rigorous pursuit of its drive strategy focusing on the ultimate objective of zero-emission driving. Along with optimised combustion engines and hybridisation tailored to prevailing needs, the focus is on battery-powered electric drives and the fuel cell.

Mercedes-Benz Concept B-Class E-CELL PLUS Debuts in Frankfurt

The Mercedes Concept B-Class E-Cell Plus has a total range of up to 372 miles and a range of up to 62 miles when in all-electric

Mercedes-Benz unveiled their Concept B-Class E-Cell Plus at the Frankfurt International Motor Show for the press on Tuesday.

The Mercedes Concept B-Class E-Cell Plus has a total range of up to 600 kilometers and a range of up to 100 kilometers when in all-electric, local emission-free mode. Acceleration in the B-Class E-Cell Plus is a less then speedy sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 11 seconds and the top speed of 150 km/h.  Though you won’t win any races both speeds are attainable in either operating mode making it extremely eco-friendly.

The above is made possible by the combination of a powerful electric drive generating a peak power output of 100 kW and a continuous output of 70 KW with a 50 kW petrol engine. The latter performs a dual role: at low vehicle speeds it charges the battery via a generator. At higher speeds it serves as a driving engine, acting on the front wheels together with the electric motor via a newly developed automatic transmission. The transmission is a newly developed automatic from Mercedes-Benz.

The Mercedes Concept B-Class E-Cell Plus meets Mercedes-Benz’s high standards in every respect. The vehicle combines compact exterior dimensions with a spacious and variable interior and luggage compartment. Five full-size seats make it an all-round electric car for the family, leisure and general motoring. The new electromechanical steering and enhanced driving dynamics provide for refined sportiness in the field of electric mobility.

Plans for Electric Vehicles Confirmed by Mercedes-Benz

Daimler confirmed its plans to partner with Robert Bosch to develop electric motors for a new generation of electric vehicles

Daimler has today confirmed its plans to form a partnership with Robert Bosch GmbH to develop electric motors for a new generation of electric vehicles. If all goes well, production of the electric motors will begin production in early 2012. The motors will initially be used in Mercedes-Benz and smart electric cars starting in the later part of 2012.

Production of EV at BMW is not slated to begin until 2013, putting Mercedes far in front of the competition.

Specific vehicle details have yet to be released, but we expect the first vehicles to receive the electric motors will be the SLS AMG E-Cell and the A-Class E-Cell.

Press Release

Daimler AG and Robert Bosch GmbH plan to expand their long-standing partnership and cooperate in the development and production of electric motors for all-electric vehicles in Europe. The companies have signed a letter of intent and begun negotiations to establish a 50:50 joint venture that should be concluded in the first half of 2011.

Both companies aim, by bundling their competencies, to accelerate development advances in electric motors as well as to make accordant synergies accessible. According to their letter of intent, joint production should start in 2012. It is envisioned that the electric motors developed will be used in Mercedes-Benz and smart electric vehicles from 2012. Subsequent sales to other automakers are to be handled by Bosch. The joint activites will be located in the greater Stuttgart area and in Hildesheim.

The Bosch Group is a leading supplier of technology and services to the automotive sector. It has a high level of competence in developing and producing electric motors, which it is already manufacturing in series in Hildesheim.

The automotive manufacturer Daimler has built up 20 years of experience in the area of electric vehicles as well as their key components electric motor and battery, giving it a comprehensive understanding of how results can be best achieved in this field.
