The key new feature of the 2015 generation vehicle is a new internet-enabled telematics generation boasting high-performance multimedia devices and navigation systems

Mercedes-Benz has further enhanced the E-Class in terms of a number of details. The key new feature of the 2015 generation vehicle is a new internet-enabled telematics generation boasting high-performance multimedia devices and navigation systems and enabling convenient use of the versatile options afforded by modern communications technology.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class – 2015 generation

Mercedes-Benz E-Class – 2015 generation

With the new telematics generation Mercedes-Benz remains at the forefront of the rapidly evolving world of communications and media technology. Paired with a Bluetooth®-enabled mobile phone with data option, the modern COMAND Online multimedia system in the E-Class offers internet functionality, enabling the internet to be surfed without restrictions when the vehicle is stationary. While on the move, Mercedes-Benz Apps such as “Mercedes-Benz Radio” and “Service Mercedes-Benz” can be used unlimited.

As standard the E-Class comes with a basic telephony feature, which connects the mobile phone with the vehicle via a standardised Bluetooth® interface and is fitted with a hands-free function. Optionally it can also be used with the new, fast LTE mobile phone network. This 4th-generation (4G) location-independent wireless broadband internet access enables download speeds of up to 300 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 75 Mbps, transferring data considerably faster than the conventional 3G network. As a result, in addition to making conventional telephone calls, it is also possible to make use of such features as Multimedia Messaging Services, video chat, high-definition radio as well as mobile TV functions virtually instantaneously.

As previously, three multimedia systems are available for the E-Class. The Audio 20 CD is installed as standard and can also be selected with the preinstallation for the Garmin® MAP PILOT, a new navigation system in the E-Class. Alternatively, Mercedes-Benz offers the COMAND Online system including DVD single drive. A common feature to all systems is a high-resolution 17.8 cm (7-inch) colour Media Display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and impressive animations and 3D effects.

Audio 20 CD – optional with new navigation system

The Audio 20 CD multimedia system is fitted as a radio with twin tuners, traffic information decoder, CD drive (MP3 and other music formats), Bluetooth® interface with address transfer from mobile phone to the head unit, Media Interface integrated into the head unit for the support of iPhone® or iPod®, two USB ports and an SD card slot.

The optional Garmin® MAP PILOT navigation system, which is new in the E-Class, stores its map data set on an SD card and boasts the attractive and well-established look and feel of Garmin. It can be operated via the controller as well as voice control – the Integrated Speech Dialog System (SDS), including Text-to-Speech (TTS). The necessary software to enable this is also stored on the SD card. The navigation system provides the three-dimensional display of terrain and various buildings in a particularly clear and realistic manner. Points of Interest (POI) can also be input and displayed by the navigation software. Furthermore, route destinations can be downloaded via the internet and followed.

COMAND Online – the comprehensive multimedia system

As an alternative to the Audio 20 CD, Mercedes-Benz offers COMAND Online as a multimedia system in the E-Class, including DVD single drive. Navigation, phone, audio, video, internet – with the COMAND control and display system the driver is able to maintain an overview, as well as control of, these and many other functions. Operation is simple and intuitive. Fast, dynamic hard-disc navigation with realistic topographic map display including 3D POIs and city models, fast navigation performance and short loading times thanks to the integral 200 GB hard disc and three years of free navigation updates all help to ensure drivers enjoy a relaxed motoring experience, whatever the destination. Storage/import/display of personal POIs on the map are also possible.

Live Traffic – most accurate traffic information

In addition, the Live Traffic Information service is included free of charge for three years from the date of initial registration. It helps to ensure optimum dynamic route guidance with precisely calculated arrival times while delivering highly accurate traffic information. To achieve this, Live Traffic Information gathers and transfers high quantities of traffic data from various sources, including “floating car data” technology for example. The data are transferred via the internet with the aid of a communication module with integral SIM card. Since data roaming is included, Live Traffic is not only available in Germany but also in many European countries. Thanks to comprehensive and up-to-date information on possible delays, their causes and primarily the direct impact on the planned route, the driver is able to make an informed decision on whether a detour should be made onto one of the alternative routes suggested by the system, if required, in order to avoid unnecessary delays in tailbacked traffic.

Entertainment on demand is assured by the COMAND Online system thanks to a DVD player, radio and also interfaces for connecting external devices. A further highlight of COMAND Online is the LINGUATRONIC voice control system for audio, phone, navigation and music search functions and also control of the Mercedes-Benz Apps. Among other things, it enables so-called one-shot entry of city, street and house number in a single command, including input of stopovers, and also a text-to-speech function for reading out traffic reports on the route and also personal text messages.
Another new addition to the E-Class family in 2015 is the E 220 BlueTEC 4MATIC. Its four-cylinder diesel engine generates 125 kW (170 hp) and delivers 400 Nm of torque.

2015 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Spy Photos

Development work on the all-new Mercedes E-Class is well underway, with a comprehensively overhauled fifth-generation car

Development work on the all-new Mercedes E-Class is well underway, and here are a few images showing the look of the comprehensively overhauled fifth-generation car, set to arrive in 2016.

They’re based on spy shots of heavily disguised prototypes, which reveal a slight increase in size for the executive model. This marginal growth spurt is down to the new rear-wheel-drive MRA platform, which currently underpins the new C-Class and S-Class. As a result, the lightweight architecture will not only unlock a new and sportier dimension, but boost passenger space inside, too.

As you can see, the new saloon’s link with the larger S-Class won’t stop at the mechanicals, as svelte new exterior styling is also on the cards.

Far more swooping, curvy lines are set to replace the current model’s more angular panels and tight surfaces.

The cabin will also be completely updated, with features such as the floating infotainment system, plush centre console and digital instrument cluster all likely to be carried over from the latest flagship S-Class.

As with the current E-Class, we can expect an Estate to follow the saloon into showrooms, too, with a Coupé and soft-top Cabriolet also set to join the ranks.

There’ll be significant changes under the bonnet as well. The new running gear will allow Mercedes to offer ultra-efficient plug-in hybrid versions of the E-Class for the first time if it chooses to, but an official announcement has yet to be made. It’s not all about economy, though, as the E63 AMG range-topper will still be offered, featuring the all-new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8.

Power could rise to as much as 600bhp – trumping the 552bhp BMW M5 – but we’ll have to wait until 2017 before Mercedes pulls the wraps off that one. The brand also plans to more closely align the E-Class and ML-Class, by renaming the SUV as the GLE when the facelifted version goes on sale early next year. It follows then that Mercedes’ rival to the BMW X6 will be badged GLE Coupé when it also arrives early in 2015.

Mercedes E 350 BlueTEC to Receive Nine-Speed Automatic Transmission

The Mercedes E350 BlueTEC will be one of the most fuel-efficient six-cylinder diesel models in its class thanks to the 9G-TRONIC

Making its world premiere on the Mercedes E350 BlueTEC is the first nine-speed automatic transmission with torque converter, the 9G-TRONIC for premium vehicles. Equipped with the innovative power transmission, the E350 BlueTEC will be one of the most fuel-efficient six-cylinder diesel models in its class. Thanks to the high level of efficiency of the patented transmission design, NEDC fuel consumption in the E-Class is reduced to 5.3 litres of diesel per 100 km. As is typical of the brand, the transmission features outstanding comfort and barely perceptible gear changes. The E 350 BlueTEC featuring the 9G-TRONIC as standard is available to order with immediate effect. Despite the extended scope of functions, the pricing for both the Saloon and Estate models remains unchanged.

In the E 350 BlueTEC, which is available as Saloon and Estate models and comes fitted with the new 9G-TRONIC as standard, the 185 kW (252 hp) V6 diesel engine has an average NEDC fuel consumption of 5.3 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres (Estate: 5.5 l/100 km), corresponding to CO2 emissions of 138 g/km (Estate: 144 g/km). As a result, the new models with 9G-TRONIC undercut their predecessors in terms of both consumption and CO2 emissions. The higher number of gears and the broader gear ratio spread help to increase drive comfort and enable a significant enhancement to be achieved in terms of converting engine power into traction.

The first nine-speed automatic transmission with torque converter, the 9G-TRONIC for premium vehicles, is celebrating its world premiere: equipped with the innovative power transmission, the E 350 BlueTEC is set to become one of the most fuel-efficient six-cylinder diesel models in its class.

The first nine-speed automatic transmission with torque converter, the 9G-TRONIC for premium vehicles

Perfect interaction: E 350 BlueTEC with V6 diesel engine and 9G-TRONIC

On the one hand, the overall reduction in engine speed improves NVH comfort and therefore the pleasant sense of well-being on board the E-Class, and on the other also cuts down external noise by up to 4 dB(A), thus reducing the strain on the environment.

The reduced fuel consumption of the E 350 BlueTEC with 9G-TRONIC has primarily been achieved as a result of the high level of efficiency of the transmission. As part of this, the broad ratio spread of 9.15 for gears one to nine enables a clearly perceptible reduction in engine speed and is a decisive factor behind the high level of energy efficiency and ride comfort. Shortened shift and reaction times ensure optimum spontaneity combined with outstanding ease of shifting. In manual mode and the S program in particular, the 9G-TRONIC responds significantly more spontaneously and enhances driving pleasure.

The particular ease of shifting of the new 9G-TRONIC – a focal point during development and a hallmark feature of a Mercedes-Benz automatic transmission – comes courtesy of a comprehensive package of measures. These include the novel direct control system which enables short, barely perceptible gear changes. The combination of double torsional damper and centrifugal pendulum technology in the torque converter ensures outstanding drive comfort. Together with the extended gear ratio spread, higher speeds can now be driven at lower engine speeds for even greater comfort. In reality this translates for example into being able to drive at 120 km/h in 9th gear with an engine speed of around only 1350 rpm.

Advanced technology for superior power transmission

In the case of the 9-speed automatic transmission, the development engineers also focused on the area of “compact lightweight construction”. Despite two additional gears and a maximum transferable torque of up to 1000 Newton metres, the new automatic transmission requires as little installation space as its predecessor and, in addition, is lighter. The two-piece housing design has been retained: the torque converter housing is made of lightweight aluminium, while the transmission housing with weight-optimised plastic oil pan is made of an even lighter magnesium alloy.

Another goal was to implement the nine gears with a minimal number of planetary gear sets and shift elements. Intensive, computer-based system analysis and mock-up made it possible to realise this goal with just four simple planetary gear sets and six shift elements. Three speed sensors monitor operation and provide the transmission control system with corresponding data for effective shifting. Here it is possible for several gears to be jumped when accelerating or decelerating, should the driving conditions call for it.

To ensure the reliable and at the same time highly efficient supply of the durable and shear-resistant 2nd-generation synthetic fuel economy engine oil, the new automatic transmission is fitted with two pumps. The considerably smaller mechanical main pump, featuring an off-axis design, is located next to the main shaft and is chain-driven and fed by a separate electric auxiliary pump. This design enables the flow of lubrication and coolant to be controlled actively on demand and also means that the 9G-TRONIC can benefit from a start/stop system. Thanks to the world’s first direct control system in a planetary automatic transmission with nine gears, it has also been possible to significantly increase hydraulic efficiency within the transmission.

Around 22 million automatic transmissions from Mercedes-Benz since 1961

Mercedes-Benz has been developing and producing high-quality automatic transmissions featuring outstanding ease of shifting, optimum energy efficiency and dependable durability for more than 50 years. To date, a total of around 22 million automatic passenger car transmissions have left the manufacturing plant at Stuttgart-Hedelfingen, close to the Group’s headquarters in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim.

The 9G-TRONIC is suitable for rear-wheel and all-wheel drives as well as hybrid and plug-in hybrid drive systems and will be used in almost all model series and engines in the coming years.

The E 350 BlueTEC fitted with the 9G-TRONIC as standard is available to order as Saloon or Estate models with immediate effect. As such the benefits of the new automatic transmission are being passed on to customers at no extra cost. The market launch will take place in September 2013.

2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet – Part III Interior

The 2014 E-Class facelift has not been limited to the exterior, the effects can also be seen on the inside of the Coupe and Cabriolet

The 2014 E-Class facelift has not been limited to the exterior of Mercedes’ second most popular model. The effects of the facelift can also be seen on the interior of the E-Class lineup, reinforcing the cabin’s sporty character on both the E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet while at the same time blending it with a sense of luxury and class that only Mercedes-Benz can offer.

The insides of the coupé and cabriolet are dominated by stylish materials alongside clean-cut surfaces and the two-part trim element that stretches across the entire dashboard. This has the effect of enhancing the interior’s feeling of spaciousness and classiness. The trim element is bordered by a silver chrome frame, which goes perfectly with all of the various materials available. These include three fine wood and two aluminium variants, together with black piano lacquer.

Also new are the instrument cluster with dials backed in white, which are designed to emphasise the sporty concept, and the head unit’s trapezoid-shaped colour TFT display with its high-gloss frame. The affinity to the new E‑Class family and the classy, luxurious character are further demonstrated by the analogue clock between the redesigned air outlets, as well as by the controls in matt silver chrome.

2014 E-Class Cabriolet Interior center console

Center console without automatic selector lever

Contributing to the sporty, functional appeal of the interior is the redesigned center console. In conjunction with the automatic transmission, there is no selector lever positioned here alongside the Controller with its new four-button control panel for the infotainment system. Instead, the automatic transmission is operated via the DIRECT SELECT lever and shift paddles on the multifunction steering wheel. This frees up space for stowage facilities in the horizontal part of the centre console. The controls are clearly arranged and designed in silver chrome.

Also to be found in the centre console are the controls for operating the optional Dynamic Handling package, extending and retracting the adjustable rear head restraints and the sunblind for the rear window on the Coupé, and for selecting the transmission mode. Under the centre armrest on the Cabriolet there is a special control console, housing the lever for operating the soft top and the control buttons for simultaneous opening and closing of the windows as well as for the optional AIRCAP system.

    2014 E-Class Cabriolet Interior

    Sporty steering wheel

Available in a heated version as an option, the distinctly sporty three-spoke multifunction steering wheel trimmed in nappa leather with perforated panels, thumbrests and two silver chrome inserts offers supreme ease of operation with its twelve trapezoid-shaped buttons. In conjunction with the AMG Sports package, the three-spoke AMG sports steering wheel with a flattened lower section is fitted. Contrasting red stitching is added on the variant for the AMG Plus Sports package.

The steering column benefits from an extended adjustment range. It can be individually positioned by plus/minus 25 mm for height, as well as 15 mm forwards and 35 mm backwards for reach.

    2014 E-Class Coupe Interior

    High quality and color highlights

The new surface materials in the interior convey a high perceived quality. They feature a fine grain with a high-class look and feel, which not only adds to the elegant air but is easy to clean, too. As an option, the dashboard can also be finished in a particularly attractive nappa leather trim for a distinctly sporty and luxurious ambience in the cockpit.

In order to maximise the scope for customisation, the AVANTGARDE and ELEGANCE interior concepts have been done away with and a wide choice of new interior and contrasting colours introduced in their place. New colours for the interior include silk beige, espresso brown, Bengal red and deep-sea blue. The newly available colour combination black/espresso brown symbolises “a new type of sportiness”, while the new contrasting colour deep-sea blue combines with the silk beige interior to bring a breath of fresh air into the design. New colour schemes can also be created with the roof liner in a choice of silk beige, alpaca grey and black.

The door linings with their contrasting topstitching are colour-coordinated with the rest of the interior, and are offered in two different materials:

    • ARTICO man-made leather is used in the case of the appointments variants fabric, fabric in combination with ARTICO man-made leather, ARTICO man-made leather and also in conjunction with leather appointments.
    • Nappa leather with vertical quilting is combined with appointments in nappa leather.

Additional design features on the insides of the doors include:

    • generously sized trim element beneath the beltline, which is finished at the top with trim in silver chrome
    • door opener in silver chrome, as well as silver-chrome surround for the electric seat adjustment controls in conjunction with the Memory package
    • armrest with silver-chrome trim, the shape of which underscores the sweeping lines of the armrest
    • door pocket for extra stowage space

2014 E-Class Cabriolet Interior Convertible Seats

    Attractive, ergonomic sports seats

The E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet are both fitted with seats that satisfy the most discerning and wide-ranging requirements in terms of seating comfort, ergonomic design, safety and sportiness. This is thanks to features such as the height-adjustable, crash-responsive NECK-PRO head restraints, standard electric adjustment of seat cushion height and backrest angle, as well as the seats’ steel structure and integral springing.

The proven EASY-ENTRY system for the front seats facilitates easy access to the rear. After entering the vehicle, an active belt feeder with additional control button on the dashboard console automatically moves the front seat belts into a position where the driver and front passenger can easily reach them, further helping to make the driving experience as ergonomic and comfortable as possible.

Depending on the selected material, the seats in the new E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet have a varying appearance with contrasting topstitching that is matched to the upholstery colour and material. The seats are upholstered as standard in a fabric/ARTICO man-made leather combination. The nappa leather upholstery includes new, continuous piping in a contrasting colour, while the seat cushion and backrest side bolsters on the leather upholstered seats feature a new, distinctive perforated pattern that brings out their sporting qualities.

Alternatively, there is also the option of the Multicontour Seat package for driver and front passenger. This allows smooth, pneumatic adjustment of seat cushion length, as well as the backrest lumbar support and side bolsters. As a result, the seat can be adjusted to the ideal position for both a sporty and a comfortable ride.

Further comfort-enhancing functions are available with the Memory package for driver and front passenger, which memorises the settings of the fully power-adjustable front seats, front head restraints, steering column and exterior mirrors for each user individually and automatically restores them again. Seat heating is also available, as are climatised front seats with active seat ventilation. There is a choice of three settings for adjusting the intensity of both the seat heating and ventilation.

By no means do passengers in the rear of the E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet have to compromise on comfort. The two full-size individual seats in the rear are very comfortable to sit in and include integral head restraints – which extend and retract electrically on the Cabriolet and act as a fully functional rollover protection system. When the seats are occupied, the head restraints extend automatically. The individual rear seats in the Coupé have a 1/3 : 2/3 split-folding design. The fold-out centre armrest on the Cabriolet can be specified with an optional through-loading feature.

    2014 E-Class Cabriolet Interior

    Unrivalled cabriolet comfort

The speed-dependent AIRCAP system is available as an option for exceptional comfort when driving with the top down. This reduces wind turbulence within the vehicle interior and therefore wind noise, too. New: AIRCAP deploys automatically at speeds above 40 km/h, and the wind deflector in the windscreen frame automatically retracts again below 15 km/h. This ensures that the E-Class Cabriolet appears in its purest form when driving slowly and when stationary. The two rear head restraints together with the draught-stop between them respond to the number of vehicle occupants by extending automatically if the rear seat belts are in use.

Also optionally available: AIRSCARF neck-level heating. This addition extends the cabriolet season by ensuring it is comfortable to drive with the top down even when it is cold outside. To this end, a heating element inside the head restraint warms up the air before a ventilator blows it through apertures in the head restraint, so that the heated air envelops the neck like a warm scarf. The driver and front passenger are able to individually adjust the height the air flows out at, and there is also a choice of three intensity settings.

2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet – Part II Design

As part of the 2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet facelift, Mercedes-Benz has further honed the design with clever alterations

As part of the 2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet facelift, Mercedes-Benz has further honed the design with clever alterations, giving the two models a brand new face. Mercedes-Benz has consistently implemented its new design idiom while at the same time staying true to the brand’s traditional design values.

The new look of the E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet is mainly the result of the redesigned front end, with new headlamps comprising all functional elements behind a single headlamp lens. The indicator, position and daytime running lamps sitting atop each pair of headlamp eyes use LED fibre-optic cables that produce a “torch” effect. These striking, curving lighting elements help to reproduce the four-eyed look so typical of the E-Class, and give both Coupé and Cabriolet an unmistakable night design. LED technology is employed for the low beam and daytime running lamps as standard, while customers are also given the option of all-LED headlamps for the first time in this segment.

The front of the E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet, featuring a sporty, upright radiator grille with central star, clearly spells status, self-assurance and sportiness. Now free of all lighting functions, the restyled bumper with its more pronounced V-shape serves up a fascinating interplay between surfaces of varying curvature with crisp contour lines and soft shapes. It has a sophisticated appearance, while the wing design of its curved spoiler lip clearly underscores the sporty aspirations and dynamism of these agile cars.

All in all, the front end with its sports car grille presents a distinctive, sporty face, but at the same time emphasises the close affinity between the Coupé and Cabriolet and the new E-Class Saloon.

    Silhouette with dynamic proportions

The Coupé has classic proportions with a long bonnet, elongated side window design, flat roof line, and muscular tail end. Traditional styling cues that render Mercedes-Benz coupé models so individual and unmistakable give added impact to the two-door model’s striking lines – such as the frameless doors and the‑outline of the fully retractable side windows without any B-pillars to interrupt the flow.

The four-seater Cabriolet model also has fully retractable side windows, with structure lines that continuously ascend gently as they run from the front to the boot lid emphasising its clear proportions. The elongated beltline, which merges into the longer-looking tail end, stretches the Cabriolet’s flanks and means that it cuts an especially dynamic figure when driving with the roof down. When the soft top is closed, it blends harmoniously into the silhouette to stunning effect, thanks to its flat roof edge and slender C-pillars. The classic fabric soft top additionally bestows the vehicle with a sense of exclusive elegance at the same time as evoking memories of the great four-seater Mercedes-Benz cabriolets of the past. Both the Coupé and the Cabriolet retain the muscular-looking rear wings as a visible sign of the sporty cars’ rear-wheel drive and athleticism and a clear declaration of their performance potential.

    Broad, distinctive rear end

At the rear, the lights and bumper have been revised. The new, slimmer LED tail lights extending far into the flanks emphasise the vehicle width, and use LED fibre optics to create a distinctive night design that is typical of Mercedes. A third brake light as well as the white-effect number plate lighting also make use of LED technology.

The new broad-looking rear bumper captures the new design idiom and brings it to a powerful, coherent conclusion with a wing attachment with chrome-look trim that appears to be floating. Depending on the specification, the tailpipes are either concealed out of sight or highlighted for the onlooker. The eight-cylinder models as well as models with the optional Exterior Sports package or AMG Sports package have trapezoid-shaped tailpipe trims integrated into the bumper.

E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet owners can also add some individual visual highlights with an attractive range of new wheels. The four- and six-cylinder variants of both model series ride as standard on wheels measuring 43.2 cm (17 inches), while the eight-cylinder models are fitted with 45.7 cm (18-inch) wheels. Further wheel variants can be specified as optional extras.

The models’ sporty, exclusive nature is further underlined by the new special paint finish aragonite silver, which was specially developed for the E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet. The soft top colour dark brown has also been introduced with the facelift.

    2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet – Part I

Part I- 2014 Mercedes-Benz Coupe and Cabriolet In-Depth: passionate, sporty, intelligent

Just like they did with the E-Class Sedan and the Wagon, Mercedes-Benz completed a thorough overhaul of the Coupé and Cabriolet in the 2014 E-Class range. Premiering at the Detroit Auto show, the Coupe and Cabriolet were revealed with a sportier wedge-like design that is far more aggressive than on any other E-class. As sporty as the redesignedwo t-door E-Class models are on the outside, the updated interior takes its luxurious design cues from the sedan and wagon, most notably by relocating of the gear selector from the center console to the column

Throughout the day, we’re going to take an in-depth look at the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet, tech specs, interior and exterior details, media reviews and more. Stay tuned and check back often.

Part II: 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet Design

The new E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet – The ultimate in driving enjoyment: passionate, sporty, intelligent

New features on the coupe and cabriolet include powerful and efficient BlueDIRECT four-cylinder engines with pioneering injection technology and trailblazing assistance systems as part of the “Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive” concept. Such Intelligent Drive features include, for example, systems which are able to prevent collisions with crossing vehicles or with pedestrians, Active Lane Keeping Assist, as well as dazzle-free continuous high beam.

The classic Coupé and the four-seater Cabriolet from the Mercedes-Benz E‑Class range are amongst the most desirable vehicles in the executive segment. By combining intelligent, efficient technology with luxurious equipment that offers superb comfort, neither model compromises when it comes to indulging a passion for superlative driving enjoyment. That is why they are regarded as emotion-packed highlights in the successful E-Class family. The design of the exterior and interior alike is fresh and sharp, mirroring the many new technical highlights on board in distinctly athletic fashion.

The extra-sporty members of the E-Class family underline their elite status in their respective segment with a number of true standout features. The E-Class Coupé, for instance, is the only model in its class to come with fully retractable side windows and no B-pillar. The E-Class Cabriolet, meanwhile, sets itself apart from the rest of the executive four-seater cabriolet segment with its automatic AIRCAP system that has undergone further improvement and its AIRSCARF neck-level heating. The latter makes it possible to drive with the roof down whatever the temperature is outside, thereby extending the cabriolet season well into the winter months.

    Design: the essence of e-motion

The new look of the E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet is largely down to the redesigned front end with new headlamps comprising all functional elements behind a single headlamp lens. The headlamps are fitted with LED low beam and LED daytime running lamps as standard, while all-LED technology is available for the first time in this class as an option. Inside the headlamps, flowing LED fibre-optic cables seem to trace the lines of four “eyebrows”, reinforcing the four-eyed look so typical of the E-Class.

    High-tech engines: efficiency meets performance

Both the E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet are available with a broad range of powerful and efficient petrol and diesel engines – all fitted with ECO start/stop function. New units include the BlueDIRECT four-cylinder petrol engines in the E 200 and E 250 Coupé and Cabriolet, which employ the same technology used in the latest six-cylinder units from Mercedes-Benz. Both of the new four-cylinder petrol engines meet the future EU6 emissions standard, while the E 250 even complies with the strict criteria of efficiency class A.

The six-cylinder petrol engines in the E 300, E 350 and E 400 – featuring a biturbo drive for the first time – are also state-of-the-art. The same advanced engine technology enables the V8 in the E 500 Coupé and Cabriolet to achieve outstanding levels of performance and efficiency.

The four-cylinder diesel units featuring the very latest injection technology in the E 220 CDI and E 250 CDI have been made more economical than ever, thanks partly to a re-engineered drivetrain. The V6 diesel engine powering the E 350 BlueTEC has also been overhauled and equipped with clean and efficient second-generation BlueTEC technology, enabling it to already meet the demands of the future EU6 emissions standard today. All diesel-engined Coupé and Cabriolet models have an efficiency class rating of A or A+.

    Intelligent assistance systems

In the main markets, both the Coupé and Cabriolet models are fitted as standard with COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, a radar-based proximity and collision warning system with adaptive Brake Assist. Also forming part of the standard equipment worldwide is ATTENTION ASSIST, which is now able to warn of inattentiveness and drowsiness across a wider speed range, and also to inform the driver about their level of alertness and the amount of driving time which has elapsed since their last break. It also offers adjustable sensitivity levels. In addition to this, the list of optional extras includes numerous assistance systems, which are mostly new or offer significantly enhanced functionality.

    Mercedes-Benz E-Class Long World Premiere

The long version of the Mercedes E-Class radiates status & effortless superiority, meeting the Chinese market's expectations of luxury

Over the weekend at “Auto China 2013” in Shanghai Mercedes-Benz premiered their long version of the new Mercedes E-Class. Specifically developed for the growing market in China, The E-L offers an additional 14 centimetres of legroom in the rear. Engine options include three petrol engines that cover an output range from 150 to 245 kW with automatic transmissions as standard in order to provide dynamic performance coupled with top driving comfort. With these assets, the long version of the new E-Class sets a new standard for the luxury segment.

The long version of the new E-Class radiates status and effortless superiority, meeting the Chinese market’s expectations of luxury vehicles more effectively than the comfortable E-Class with standard wheelbase. Measuring 5019 millimetres in length and with a wheelbase of 3014 millimetres, the long version, which is to be built exclusively in China, is 140 millimetres longer overall than the E-Class saloon which is being marketed worldwide. This results in 14 centimetres more legroom in the rear of the five-seater. An exclusively appointed interior conjures up a prestigious and congenial atmosphere. For special convenience, the front passenger seat can also be electrically adjusted from the rear.

    2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Long China

Design: two new front-end designs to choose from

In keeping with the entire E-Class family, intelligent modifications to the design provide the long version with a new front end as well as new proportions. When it came to the modifications, the designers followed the new Mercedes design idiom and reinterpreted the classical design values of the brand using the existing basis. The result is a superior and refined, dynamic appearance.

The headlamps have been redesigned and comprise all functional elements with a single headlamp lens. Flowing light elements within the headlamps help to ensure that the essential lines of the “four-eyed” look which is typical of the E-Class are retained. When it comes to light and visibility, the new E-Class sets standards: both the low-beam headlamps and the integrated daytime running lamps feature LED technology as standard.

For the first time, the long-wheelbase E-Class is available with two different front ends: the Sedan features the classic, three-dimensional saloon radiator grille in three-louvre look with the Mercedes star on the bonnet. The Sport Sedan comes with the sporty front end featuring a centrally positioned star to create a distinctive, emphatically dynamic look.

A new feature line and a repositioned three-dimensional trim strip give the long version of the Saloon new proportions with an exciting appearance. A new structural line runs below the feature line from the rear door through to the tail light. This lends the vehicle a longer look. It underscores the side trim, which has been shifted downwards. Overall the E-Class looks more elongated and elegant.

At the rear, the lights and bumper have been revised. The new horizontally structured LED tail lights with new two-tone look emphasise the width and feature a characteristic night design.

    2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Long China Interior

    Interior: high-quality, prestigious setting

The interior has also been reworked and harmonised with the expressive exterior. High-quality materials and refined, subdivided areas with precise joints and sharp curves underscore the high-quality overall impression of the spacious interior.

A new feature is the two-part trim which stretches across the entire dashboard. It can be selected in two different wood looks (Wood and Ash Tree Black). Also new is the design of the air vents as well as an analogue clock between the two central vents.

The harmonious interior is characterised by the redesigned centre console without selector lever, as well as a new multifunction steering wheel with DIRECT SELECT lever and shift paddles.

Appointments: a high degree of luxury as standard

The long version of the E-Class is being launched in China as the E 260 L, E 300 L and E 400 L. There is a choice of two variants: the luxurious Sedan and the Sport Sedan. The latter features a powerful AMG front and rear apron, new AMG side skirts and AMG wheels. Typical of the AMG brand is the lavish scope of equipment and appointments. Starting with the E 260 L, features include LED headlamps, an electric sunroof, two-zone automatic climate control, PARKTRONIC and COMAND DVD.

New items of equipment are additionally available for other models:

The 360° camera comprises a close-range system of several cameras to assist in parking and manoeuvring. In addition to the functions of the backup camera, it also enables monitoring of the areas to the side of the vehicle and directly in front of the vehicle, thus helping to avoid inadvertent collisions during manoeuvring.

All the headlamp functions of the Intelligent Light System (ILS) feature energy-efficient LED technology. These functions adapt the light distribution to the given driving situation, thereby making an important contribution to safe driving.

The ECO start/stop system reduces fuel consumption and emissions by shutting down the engine automatically when the vehicle is stationary.

    Safety: a host of innovations

In addition to the luxurious appointments, the hallmark Mercedes safety standard also sets new benchmarks. Unique features include the PRE-SAFE ® preventive occupant protection system with belt force limiters and side airbags on all outer seats and drowsiness detection with ATTENTION ASSIST. The boot size of 540 litres is also best-in-segment.

Among the highlights on board the E 400 L Sport Sedan are the new or substantially enhanced assistance systems in the Driving Assistance package Plus. These include the following innovations:

DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist can help to take the burden off the driver when it comes to keeping the vehicle in its lane and is also able to follow vehicles in traffic jams semi-autonomously.

For the first time, the Brake Assist system BAS PLUS with Junction Assist is able to detect crossing traffic and pedestrians too, and to boost the braking power applied by the driver accordingly.

The PRE-SAFE® Brake can detect pedestrians and initiate autonomous braking to avoid a collision at speeds up to 50 km/h.

PRE-SAFE® PLUS is able to detect an imminent rear-end collision. The driver of the vehicle following behind is warned by activation of the rear warning lights with increasing frequency. The PRE-SAFE® system then triggers occupant protection measures to reduce the forces to which occupants are subjected. It can also firmly apply the stationary vehicle’s brakes in the event of a rear-end collision to prevent secondary accidents.

Active Lane Keeping Assist can now detect when the adjacent lane is occupied, in particular by oncoming traffic too. When there is the risk of a collision, the system can also prevent the vehicle from leaving its lane unintentionally, also in case of broken lane markings, by applying the brakes on one side. As such it makes the ideal supplement to Active Blind Spot Assist.

Engine and suspension: onus on maximum comfort

The E-Class L is being launched with a choice of three refined, high-torque petrol engines: the E 260 L BlueEFFICIENCY rated at 150 kW (204 hp) with four-cylinder direct injection and the six-cylinder models E 300 L rated at 180 kW (245 hp) and E 400 L with an output of 245 kW (333 hp). Additional engines will be available in due course – for example the E 400 L HYBRID, which is on display as a show car in Shanghai. All models feature automatic transmission as standard. The transmission control system is self-learning and adapts the shift points to the driver’s individual driving profile.

2014 Mercedes E63 AMG – All You Need To Know

The new Mercedes E63 AMG starts at 103,054 Euros for the saloon and 109,599 Euros for the E63 AMG Estate

Mercedes-AMG unveiled the new E 63 AMG, which is now also available as a particularly exclusive and powerful S-Model with an output of 430 kW (585 hp), 800 Newton metres of torque and featuring a newly developed performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system, earlier this year and we have a detailed look and perhaps all you’ll ever need to know about the new model.  Keep in mind that the information below is for the German market but much of the information can be carried over and applied to the U.S. market.  For U.S. specific information, Click Here.

The AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine continues to be the absolute pinnacle of efficiency: the combination of high performance and low fuel consumption remains unrivalled by any other competitor in the segment worldwide. The permanent all-wheel drive is also optionally available for the other E 63 AMG models – in which the V8 engine has been uprated from 386 kW (525 hp) and 700 Nm to 410 kW (557 hp) and 720 Nm of torque. With this range, Mercedes-AMG is premiering high-performance passenger car models with an all-wheel-drive system geared to driving dynamics.

The launch of the new, customised model variants will offer Mercedes-AMG customers greater scope for individuality than ever before. The new high-performance, exclusive S-Models are an even more attractive proposition than the AMG Performance packages which have enjoyed great popularity to date. The S-Models form an integral part of the new AMG model range constellation as distinctive model variants; additional AMG high-performance automobiles will become available as S-Models in future. The E 63 AMG’s appeal is also boosted by substantially enhanced value for money: customers now receive more performance and driving dynamics and a broader scope of standard equipment and appointments. The new E 63 AMG also presents a more dynamic appearance than its predecessor. The new AMG design philosophy is immediately apparent at first glance, with the “twin blade” radiator grille and the “A-wing” in the AMG front apron defining the exclusive look. As previously, the top AMG model is available as a Saloon and an Estate variant.

Alongside the successful SUVs – ML 63 AMG, GL 63 AMG, G 63 AMG and G 65 AMG – two passenger car model ranges comprising up to eight unique models with performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive are now available from Mercedes-AMG in the guise of the E 63 AMG and the CLS 63 AMG. Additional models with all-wheel drive, such as the A 45 AMG and the CLA 45 AMG, will follow this year.

Acceleration to 100 km/h from a standing start in 3.6 seconds provides the E 63 AMG S 4MATIC with a comfortable lead over the entire competition; the top speed stands at 250 km/h (electronically limited). In addition to the increase in output, this is also attributable in no small part to the performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive with a power distribution ratio of 33 to 67 percent (front/rear axle). Perfect traction during acceleration effectively avoids slip-induced losses.

On the new S-Model the AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine generates a maximum output of 430 kW (585 hp) and maximum torque of 800 Newton metres – representing an increase of 20 kW (28 hp) over the AMG Performance package which was previously available as an option. This enhanced performance and power results from adaptation of the engine application, an increase in peak pressure and a rise in the charge pressure from 0.9 to 1.0 bar. At 410 kW (557 hp) and 720 Newton metres, the basic model also boasts an increase of 24 kW (32 hp) and 20 Newton metres over its predecessor.

Despite added power and enhanced performance, all models of the E 63 AMG offer high efficiency, low fuel consumption and low exhaust emissions. The AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine remains the most efficient series production V8 engine around – with substantially more cubic capacity than its direct competitors. The E 63 AMG rated at 410 kW (557 hp) with rear-wheel drive runs on 9.8 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres in accordance with NEDC (230 grams of CO2). The variant with performance-oriented 4MATIC all-wheel drive and the S-Model rated at 430 kW (585 hp) with all-wheel drive display only marginally higher fuel consumption, at 10.3 to 10.5 litres per 100 km (242 grams to 246 grams of CO2). On top of this, following the implementation of internal engine measures all E 63 AMGs meet the requirements of the stringent Euro 6 emissions standard which will not enter into force until 2015.

AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission for personal set-up

Maximum individuality and customised dynamics – these are the special strengths of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission. The four modes – “C” (Controlled Efficiency), “S” (Sport), “S+” (Sport plus) and “M” (Manual) – offer the driver a personal set-up. In “C” mode, the ECO start/stop function is active and switches off the eight-cylinder engine when the vehicle is at a standstill. In addition, the transmission characteristics are tangibly soft, with smooth and early gear changes. Second gear is generally used as the starting gear in this mode.

The engine and transmission are far more agile in “S”, “S+” and “M” mode; in addition, the ECO start/stop function is deactivated. Partial suppression of the cylinders proves perfect for an emphatic driving style: briefly and precisely interrupting ignition and injection under full load leads to even faster gearshifts with a more emotional sound than before. An automatic double-declutching function for downshifting and the RACE START function are also included as standard with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission.

Performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive for the ultimate in dynamism

The performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive distributes the engine torque at a ratio of 33 to 67 percent (front/rear axle). The rear-biased power distribution provides for signature AMG high driving dynamics and superlative driving enjoyment. The 3-stage ESP® has been tailored specifically to the permanent all-wheel drive system. In “SPORT Handling” mode, ESP® Curve Dynamic Assist performs selective braking intervention on individual wheels in the interests of high agility, thereby avoiding understeering when turning and cornering. In bends, specific brief braking of the inner rear wheel results in defined cornering of the vehicle.

The AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive enhances driving safety and grip on wet or wintry road surfaces. Optimum traction is guaranteed by a multi-disk clutch with a locking effect of 50 Newton metres which exploits the frictional connection potential of all four wheels to the full on snow and ice in particular.

The technical basis is provided by a transfer case for the additional power take-off to the driven rear axle. This transfer case is integrated compactly into the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission and requires virtually no additional installation space. The torque is transmitted from the power take-off via a propeller shaft to the front axle. Power transmission from the front-axle differential to the front-left drive shaft is effected via an intermediate shaft which passes through an encapsulated shaft duct in the engine oil pan. The compact and weight-optimised design results in a comparatively low level of additional weight for the all-wheel drive system of only 70 kilograms.

E 63 AMG S-Model with differential lock on the rear axle

The E 63 AMG S sees Mercedes-AMG going one step further. True to AMG’s “Driving Performance” brand claim, the most powerful E-Class is additionally fitted with a differential lock on the rear axle. This high-tech package results in a further increase in traction, ultimately leading to even greater driving dynamics and enhanced driving enjoyment, especially on the race track.

All E 63 AMG models feature the AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with electronically controlled damping system. The front axle employs a steel-spring suspension system, while the rear axle is fitted with a fully load-bearing air suspension system. Pressing the button marked with a shock absorber on the AMG DRIVE UNIT is sufficient to switch the electronics from “Comfort” to “Sport” or “Sport plus”.

The three-link front suspension has undergone further optimisation for the S-Model and the E 63 AMG with all-wheel drive. In conjunction with the newly developed axle components produced in aluminium, these optimisation measures result in markedly enhanced grip and agility combined with a high level of neutrality during fast cornering. The markedly more performance-oriented elastokinematics are exclusive to the S-Model, and offer the driver maximum neutrality and even better feedback and grip at the critical limits. With rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, the E 63 AMG’s 48 millimetre wider track at the front offers substantially greater stability at high cornering speeds and improved road feel. Increased negative camber on both axles additionally boosts lateral dynamics.

Electromechanical AMG speed-sensitive steering complements the vehicle’s set-up to perfection, the direct steering ratio of 14 : 1 providing for extremely agile handling in bends in conjunction with the variable servo assistance geared to the given suspension mode. The E 63 AMG is fitted as standard with 10-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels painted in titanium grey and featuring a high-sheen finish. Tyres in size 255/40 R 18 are fitted to 9.0 x 18 wheels at the front, while the 9.5 x 18 rear wheels have 285/35 R 18 tyres. The all-wheel drive and S-Model come with tyres in size 255/35 R 19 (front) and 285/30 R 19 (rear) on AMG light-alloy wheels in size 9.0 x 19 and 9.5 x 19. Only the high-performance S-Model features 10-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in matt titanium grey with a high-sheen rim flange.

Optional AMG ceramic high-performance composite brake system

The E 63 AMG is equipped with an extremely effective AMG high-performance braking system befitting its status as an AMG automobile. The front and rear axles sport ventilated and perforated brake disks in ample 360 millimetre format. The disks which are subject to particularly high levels of stress and strain on the front axle feature the composite braking technology which has been tried and tested in the field of motor sport. Callipers in a silver painted finish with white AMG lettering and incorporating six pistons (front) and four pistons (rear) provide for spontaneous, fading-resistant deceleration and the shortest stopping distances. Callipers in a red painted finish distinguish the S-Model.

An AMG ceramic high-performance composite braking system is exclusively available for the S-Model as an optional feature – recognisable by the even larger 402 millimetre brake disks and the “AMG Carbon Ceramic” logo on callipers sporting a special paint finish. This ceramic system is around 40 percent lighter, providing for reduced unsprung masses and enhanced driving dynamics, agility and ride comfort. The superior hardness of the ceramic brake disks leads to a longer service life and greater resistance to extreme stress and heat.

“Intelligent drive” with new assistance systems

What started with the PRE-SAFE® system and continued with DISTRONIC PLUS has resulted in a new dimension of motoring at Mercedes-Benz: comfort and safety are merged into one. Mercedes-Benz refers to this as “intelligent drive”. In the E-Class, a whole host of new or optimised systems from the future S-Class celebrate their world premiere, making motoring more comfortable and safer.

The basis for all this is formed by new, state-of-the-art sensors and corresponding algorithms. Mercedes-Benz has made a major step forward with the introduction of the Stereo Multi-Purpose Camera. Just like the Mono Multi-Purpose Camera fitted previously, it is positioned behind the windscreen in the vicinity of the rear-view mirror. However, this camera features two “eyes” set at an angle of 45 degrees and with an overall range of 500 metres that produce a three-dimensional view of the area up to around 50 metres in front of the vehicle. In this way, the stereo camera provides data for processing by various systems. Intelligent algorithms perform an evaluation of this three-dimensional visual information in order to detect and carry out a classification, both spatially and in terms of their movement, of vehicles that are driving ahead, oncoming or crossing, as well as pedestrians and a variety of traffic signs within a large field of vision.

At the same time as the Stereo Multi-Purpose Camera, Mercedes-Benz is also introducing improved versions of the multistage radar sensor system. As standard, both the Saloon and Estate models are fitted with COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, a radar-based collision warning system with brake assist systems. It helps to significantly reduce the risk of a rear-end collision. Also forming part of the standard equipment is ATTENTION ASSIST, which is now able to warn of inattentiveness and drowsiness across a wider speed range, and also inform the driver about their level of fatigue and the amount of driving time which has elapsed since the last break. It also offers an adjustable sensitivity level.

In addition, also optionally available are a number of assistance systems which are either new or now feature significantly extended functions.

The following is an overview of the innovations:

    • DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist can help to take the burden off the driver when it comes to keeping the vehicle in its lane and also track traffic in tailbacks semi-automatically
    • for the first time, the Brake Assist system BAS PLUS with Junction Assist is able to detect crossing traffic and pedestrians too, and boost the braking power applied by the driver accordingly
    • the PRE-SAFE® Brake can detect pedestrians and initiate autonomous braking to avoid a collision at speeds up to 50 km/h
    • PRE-SAFE® PLUS can recognise an imminent rear-end collision. The driver of the vehicle following behind is warned by activation of the rear warning lights with increasing frequency (not in the USA and Canada). The PRE-SAFE® system then triggers occupant protection measures to reduce the forces to which occupants are subjected. It can also firmly apply the stationary vehicle’s brakes in the event of a rear-end collision to prevent secondary accidents
    • Active Lane Keeping Assist can now detect when the adjacent lane is occupied, in particular by oncoming traffic too. When there is the risk of a collision, the system can also prevent the vehicle from leaving its lane unintentionally, when continuous lines are present, by applying the brakes on one side. As such it makes the ideal supplement to Active Blind Spot Assist
    • Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus allows the high-beam headlamps to be kept on permanently without dazzling traffic by masking out other vehicles in the beams’ cone of light
    • Active Parking Assist enables automated parking with active steering and brake control in both parallel and end-on spaces
    • In addition to speed limits, Traffic Sign Assist can now also detect and display no-overtaking zones and the respective signs signalling their end. In the case of signs imposing access restrictions, it can also provide visual and acoustic warnings. For this reason, it is the first system which can prevent drivers from unintentionally becoming a “phantom driver” i.e. driving the wrong way along a motorway.
    • The 360o camera covers all four sides of the vehicle, thus enabling a uniform all-round view, including virtual bird’s-eye view – a top-down view of the vehicle and its immediate surroundings. Dynamic guide lines help with entering and leaving parking spaces as well as manoeuvring

Distinctive design creating an even more dynamic and exclusive aura

The dynamism and performance stemming from the fascinating technology of the new E 63 AMG are also transported by the design as defining attributes of the vehicle. The AMG high-performance automobile sets new design trends in the process. The E 63 AMG presents the new AMG design philosophy. Predominant elements are the AMG “twin blade” radiator grille in silver chrome and the so-called “A-wing”. The new, three-dimensional air deflector spans the entire width of the AMG front apron, presenting the stylised “A” which is a hallmark of AMG vehicles. The “A-wing” painted in the car’s exterior colour with a trim strip in silver chrome provides the backdrop for three large cooling air intake openings. On the side air intakes, black flics provide for an ideal inflow of air into the cooling modules, while at the bottom a front splitter painted in the car’s exterior colour helps to reduce lift. Convex and concave surfaces dynamically combine the new front end of the E 63 AMG featuring a sculptural design with the distinctive flared wings on which “V8 BITURBO” lettering alludes to the superior engine power on board.

The striking air outlet openings at the sides, the black grille and the two sets of twin chrome tailpipes belonging to the AMG sports exhaust system lend the rear an impression of width. The black diffusor insert with pronounced fins provides the E 63 AMG with a powerful touch of race track atmosphere at the rear.

S-Model with even more striking design features

Numerous newly designed, even more striking design features set the E 63 AMG S 4MATIC apart from the basic model. The “A-wing” at the front cuts a fine figure in high-gloss black, for example. The front splitter is finished in silver chrome, as are the striking three-dimensional inserts in the side sill panels. The rear end presents a powerful impression by virtue of the trim strip in silver chrome in conjunction with the two sets of distinctive twin chrome tailpipes belonging to the AMG sports exhaust system. The AMG spoiler lip (on the Saloon only) painted in the car’s exterior colour reduces lift at high speeds.

The 10-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels in a matt titanium grey painted finish with high-sheen rim flange fit snugly in the wheel arches with tyres in size 255/35 R 19 at the front and 285/30 R 19 at the rear. Brake callipers in red painted finish and an AMG logo on the boot lid sporting an “S” in contrasting black are other characteristic features of the S-Models.

    Dynamic, exclusive atmosphere inside

With the standard-fit nappa leather upholstery, the black interior of the E 63 AMG S-Model features grey contrasting topstitching on the AMG sports seats, the door centre panels, the door armrests and the centre console. Silver seat belts are also part of this standard interior. The rim of the AMG Performance steering wheel in black nappa leather is flattened at the top and bottom and boasts grip areas in Alcantara®and grey contrasting stitching. The front head restraints of the AMG sports seats incorporate exclusive embossed AMG emblems. The AMG instrument cluster in a new design features an “S AMG” logo on the 320 km/h speedometer and red applications. The standard scope of equipment and appointments further includes AMG door sill panels with white LED illumination, an electrically operated rear roller blind (Saloon only) and the anti-theft protection package.

Superior-quality materials, excellent workmanship and an exclusive atmosphere are common to all E 63 AMG models. The new AMG-specific analogue clock in IWC design is an attractive eye-catcher between the two central air vents.

The standard scope of equipment and appointments for all E 63 AMG models further includes (selection):

    • Active Parking Assist
    • AMG door entry sills
    • AMG sports pedals in brushed stainless steel with rubber studs

    2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan

Design – a choice of two new front-end styles

Numerous intelligent modifications have given the E-Class a new front-end design and revised proportions. Designers applied the new Mercedes-Benz design language to reinterpret the brand’s classic design values on the existing basis. The outcome is an elegant, refined and yet sporty look.

The front end has been completely revised with new headlamps that incorporate all light functions within a single lens, while flowing light elements within the headlamps help to retain the “four-eyed” appearance that is such a distinctive EClass signature. When it comes to light and sight, the E-Class sets the benchmark – low beam and daytime running lights both come with partial LED as standard, while full-LED headlamps are available as an option for the first time in this class.

In another first, the MY14 E-Class is available with two different front-end designs. The Luxury version comes with the classic sedan grille with 3-louver look and star on the hood. The Sport version, on the other hand, features the sports grille with integrated star, forming a visual link to the brand’s highperformance sports car models.

The hood and front bumper have also been completely redesigned. With its flowing lines, the hood offers a smooth, sleek expression of the new design language. The bumper has new, contemporary styling with an aerofoil shape along its lower edge for an even more distinctively sporting character. Sport models receive an even more confident front design, using the AMG styling package that features larger air intakes and a distinct aluminum trim line along the entire lower rim of the front bumper.

    Dynamic, elegant proportions

A new feature line and a repositioned three-dimensional trim line bring new proportions to both the sedan and wagon. The feature line runs below the structure line from the rear door to the tail light, giving the car greater visual length. This is reinforced by the side trim, which is now much lower. The overall effect is to make the MY14 E-Class look longer and more elegant, and at the same time both dynamic and composed.

    2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon

    Broad, distinctive rear end

The rear end of the MY14 E-Class features modifications to the lights and the bumper. The new LED tail lamps have a horizontal design that emphasizes the width of the vehicle, while the two-tone look comes with a distinctive nighttime signature. Sport models feature exposed dual exhaust pipes.

    Premium interior

The generously proportioned interior of the E-Class has been subtly revised and harmonized with the expressive exterior. Premium materials, precise lines and clearly defined surfaces combine to create a sophisticated overall look-and-feel.

A new feature is the two-part trim extending across the entire soft-touch dashboard, which is available in two wood finishes – burl walnut or black ash. Also new are the instrument cluster, the trapezoidal head-unit display, the air vent design and the analogue clock between the two central vents.

“Intelligent Drive” with new assistance systems

What started with PRE-SAFE® and continued with DISTRONIC PLUS® has emerged as a new dimension of driving at Mercedes-Benz, where comfort and safety merge into one. Mercedes-Benz calls this “Intelligent Drive.” A whole host of new or optimized systems from the future S-Class celebrate their world premiere in the E-Class, delivering increased comfort and safety, such as the all-new DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist.

The basis for all this is new state-of-the-art sensors and their associated algorithms. Mercedes-Benz has taken a major step forward with the introduction of the Stereo Multi-Purpose Camera. Just like the previous Mono Multi-Purpose Camera, it is located on the windshield near the rearview mirror. However, this camera features two “eyes,” set at an angle of 45 degrees to produce a threedimensional view of the area up to 55 yards in front of the vehicle and with an overall range of up to 550 yards. The stereo camera gathers data for processing by various systems using intelligent algorithms. The systems can detect vehicles driving in front, oncoming or crossing and evaluate this three-dimensional visual information to determine their speed and position. They can also identify pedestrians within a large field of vision.

Along with the Stereo Multi-Purpose Camera, Mercedes-Benz is also introducing enhanced versions of the Multi-Mode Radar sensor system. COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, a radar-based collision warning system with Adaptive Brake Assist is standard equipment on both the sedan and wagon. It helps to reduce significantly the risk of a rear-end collision. Also part of standard equipment is ATTENTION ASSIST®, which now warns of inattentiveness and drowsiness across a wider range, and provides visual information on attention level and time driven since the last break. The sensitivity of the new-generation ATTENTION ASSIST® can be adjusted by the driver.

Also available are a number of assistance systems that are either new or now feature significantly enhanced functionality. In overview:

    • DISTRONIC PLUS® with Steering Assist can help the driver keep the vehicle centered in its lane and can semi-autonomously follow in-line traffic.
    • For the first time, the Brake Assist system BAS PLUS® with Cross-Traffic Assist is able to detect crossing traffic and pedestrians, and boost the braking power applied by the driver accordingly
    • The PRE-SAFE® Brake can now detect pedestrians as well and initiate autonomous braking.
    • PRE-SAFE® PLUS can identify an imminent rear-end collision and then prompt the PRE-SAFE® system to trigger occupant protection measures that reduce the forces exerted on passengers. If the vehicle is stationary, it can also prevent secondary accidents in the event of a rear-end collision by applying the brakes.
    • Active Lane Keeping Assist can now detect when the adjacent lane is not clear, including the presence of oncoming traffic, overtaking vehicles, crash barriers etc. Under threat of a collision, even if the lane marking is not a solid line, the system can prevent the vehicle from leaving its lane unintentionally by applying the brakes on one side. This system pairs perfectly with Active Blind Spot Assist.
    • Adaptive Highbeam Assist PLUS allows high beam to remain permanently switched on without dazzling traffic by masking out other vehicles in the beams’ cone of light.
    • Active Parking Assist enables automated parking with active steering and brake control in both parallel and perpendicular spaces.
    • The Surround View Camera will cover all four sides of the vehicle and enable a 360-degree view including virtual bird’s-eye perspective – a top view of the vehicle and its immediate surroundings. Dynamic guide lines help during parking and maneuvering.

Excellent performance with high gas mileage

Both the E-Class sedan and wagon boast a range of powerful and efficient gasoline and diesel engines. All come with the ECO start/stop system as standard equipment and are highly efficient. Mercedes-Benz offers the broadest range of ECO start/stop systems in the United States, as well as the most seamless, smooth, and unobtrusive algorithms.

The gasoline engines offered in the MY14 E-Class are the highly successful V6 and V8 units in the E350 and E550, which will go on sale in Spring 2013. They combine excellent response characteristics and outstanding power delivery with exceptional efficiency.

Powerful diesel engine and hybrid drive for outstanding efficiency

New in the MY14 E-Class sedan is the incredibly efficient four-cylinder diesel engine powering the E250 BlueTEC with 4MATIC all-wheel drive, available Fall 2013. Compliant with emissions legislations in all fifty states, the latest diesel model from Mercedes-Benz shows that premium elegance and outstanding economy are not mutually exclusive. The E250 BlueTEC generates 190 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, replacing the V6-powered E350 BlueTEC engine that only was available with rear-wheel drive.

A further feature of the MY14 E-Class range is the highly economical E400 HYBRID. Supplemented by an electric motor (27hp, 184 lb-ft), the E400 HYBRID offers the powerful and refined performance of the Mercedes-Benz 3.5-liter V6 (302hp, 273 lb-ft) paired with an outstanding gas mileage of 24/30 mpg (est. city/highway)

New-generation transmission for dynamic and economical driving

The engines in the MY14 E-Class are mated to the seven-speed automatic transmission with DIRECT SELECT lever and DIRECT SELECT shift paddles. This latest evolution of the seven-speed transmission offers significant benefits in terms of efficiency and ease of maintenance.

A new feature is the short-term M mode. If the driver shifts up or down manually, the transmission independently switches back to the fuel-efficient automatic shift mode after a pre-determined period of time elapses.

Traction and stability can also be enhanced across the MY14 E-Class lineup with the 4MATIC® permanent all-wheel-drive system – particularly effective in challenging surface conditions.

The E63 AMG sedan and wagon, launching in summer 2013, comes with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT seven-speed MCT and 4MATIC in the United States, delivering incredible performance.

    Refined suspension for excellent handling

Mercedes-Benz offers three suspension configurations for the MY14 E-Class:

    • Configured for comfort, the AGILITY CONTROL suspension with strokedependent damping system is the standard suspension setup for the Luxury model
    • In the Sport model, the AGILITY CONTROL suspension with strokedependent damping system is 15 mm lower and has a more sporty setup
    • The E63 AMG 4MATIC comes with the AMG Adaptive Sport Suspension.

All suspension variants feature outstanding sensitivity and ride characteristics and help to ensure an excellent level of road holding.

All models in the MY14 E-Class lineup are fitted with an electromechanical Direct-Steer system as standard. This combines speed-sensitive power steering with a variable ratio across the steering angle range. The rack-and-pinion steering gear is controlled on-demand and therefore contributes towards efficiency.

Advantages of the electromechanical Direct-Steer system include:

    • improved agility thanks to more direct steering response
    • comfortable handling and smooth steering characteristics at all speeds
    • improved efficiency, as energy is consumed only while steering
    • enables innovative assistance systems, e.g. Active Parking Assist

    2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet

    2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet

Driving pleasure at the highest level: Passionate, sporty, intelligent

DETROIT – Mercedes-Benz has restyled the Coupe and Cabriolet members of the E-Class family for the 2014 model year. The bold new styling is combined with sophisticated new assistance systems which are part of Mercedes-Benz “Intelligent Drive.” These new systems include technology that can help prevent accidents with crossing vehicles or pedestrians as well as an enhanced version of Active Lane Keeping Assist. Visually, Coupe and Cabriolet have been brought in line with the new Mercedes- Benz design idiom. These models also feature exclusive, luxurious appointments for refined driving, which are hallmarks of the entire EClass family. The 2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet go on sale in the U.S. in Summer 2013.

The classic Coupe and the four-seat Cabriolet versions of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class are among the most coveted vehicles in the premium medium-size segment. With intelligent and efficient technology as well as luxurious and comfortable appointments, both are uncompromisingly designed for passionate driving enjoyment. They are therefore regarded as emotionally appealing highlights of the successful E-Class family. Both on the outside and inside the design is fresh, sharpened and so ideally reflects the many new technical features.

Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing Mercedes- Benz Cars: “Three words suffice to very briefly characterize the Coupe and the four-seater Cabriolet: stunning, athletic, passionate. Especially gratifying is that both cars also offer the most intelligent engineering that currently can be had. This makes both of them genuine dream cars.”

Design: E-motional appeal in top form

The new look of the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet is accentuated by the redesigned front end with new headlamps which contain all functional elements within a single lens. The headlamps are fitted with partial LED lights as standard, while full LED technology is available as an option for the first time in this segment. Flowing light elements within the headlamps ensure that the “four-eye” look typical of the E-Class is retained.

The new, more V-shaped front bumpers with large air intakes clearly accentuate the athletic character. The bold front end puts a distinctive, sporty face forward, but at the same time emphasizes the close relationship of the Coupe and Cabriolet with the redesigned E-Class Sedan.

The rear fenders, whose powerfully muscular shape has been retained, lend visual emphasis to the rear-wheel drive of the sporty cars. New tail lights and a wide rear bumper with a chrome trim element additionally underscore the aggressive appearance of these models.

The proportions, with a long hood, extended side line, flat roof and powerful rear end, are those of a classic coupe. Traditional styling features that make the Mercedes-Benz Coupes unmistakable – for instance the layout of the fully retractable side windows, which is unbroken by B-pillars – lend emphasis to the distinctive lines of the two-door car.

Fully retractable side windows are characteristic also of the four-seater Cabriolet and give emphasis to the clear proportions with a gently rising shoulder line from the front to the trunk lid.

    2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe

    Elegant interior

Mercedes-Benz also has restyled the interior of the 2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet and tastefully matched it to the expressive exterior. Fine materials, two-piece trim stretching across the entire dashboard, and clean surfaces dominate in the interior.

All models in the entire 2014 E-Class family feature an analog clock between the redesigned air vents and console switches are now finished in chrome.

The interior is further characterized by a redesigned center console without a gear selector lever as well as a new three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with DIRECT SELECT shift lever and shift paddles. This makes room for additional storage space and larger cup holders.

A special highlight of the new E-Class Cabriolet is its acoustic soft top with high-grade insulation, giving it the lowest noise level in its class. The unique acoustic cabriolet soft top ensures that little wind noise penetrates the interior even at high speeds.

With the top down, the standard AIRCAP, which reduces interior turbulence and wind noise, ensures exceptional convertible driving comfort, especially in the rear seat. Now at speeds over 25 mph the AIRCAP system deploys automatically, and at speeds less than 10 mph the wind deflector in the windshield frame is automatically retracted again to present the E-Class Cabriolet in its purest and most beautiful form during slow driving and at a stop. The wind deflector between the rear head restraints responds to the number of occupants, which it automatically recognizes by the buckled rear seat belts, and adjusts the position of the extendible wind deflector in the front and rear accordingly.

The available AIRSCARF neck-level heating extends the convertible season by making comfortable top-down driving possible even at low exterior temperatures.

    Limitless individual appointments

E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet offer virtually unlimited possibilities for individual configuration. New interior colors and color combinations, such as blue with contrasting beige boldly brings a breath of fresh air to the exclusive ambience of the two E-Class athletes.

“Intelligent Drive” with new assistance systems from the future

As in the Sedan and Wagon, new assistance systems that combine comfort and safety also are being introduced in the 2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet. Mercedes-Benz refers to all this as “Intelligent Drive.”

The basis for this is formed by state-of-the-art sensors – for instance a Stereo Multi-Purpose Camera in the vicinity of the rearview mirror that produces a three-dimensional view of the area up to 165 feet in front of the vehicle, and is able to monitor the overall situation ahead up to a range of 1,640 feet. Part of the Driver Assistance Package, intelligent algorithms combine the data of the stereo camera with that of the installed radar sensors. They perform an evaluation of this three-dimensional visual information in order to detect vehicles that are driving ahead, oncoming or crossing, as well as pedestrians and road markings within a large field of vision, and to carry out a spatial classification of moving objects.

The 2014 Coupe and Cabriolet are fitted with standard COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST, a radar-based collision warning system with adaptive brake assist systems, which helps to significantly reduce the risk of a collision. Also part of the standard equipment is ATTENTION ASSIST, which is now able to warn of inattentiveness and drowsiness across a wider speed range, and also inform the driver about his level of fatigue and the amount of driving time which has elapsed since the last break. It also offers an adjustable sensitivity level.

Optionally available on all 2014 E-Class Models are a number of assistance systems which are either new or now feature enhanced functions. The following is an overview of the innovations:

    • DISTRONIC PLUS® with Steering Assist can help the driver keep the vehicle centered in its lane and can semi-autonomously track lines of traffic.
    • For the first time, the Brake Assist system BAS PLUS® with Intersection Assist is able to detect crossing traffic and pedestrians too, and boost the braking power applied by the driver accordingly.
    • The PRE-SAFE® Brake can detect pedestrians and initiate autonomous braking to avoid a collision at speeds up to 30 mph
    • PRE-SAFE® PLUS can recognize an imminent rear-end collision, then prompts the PRE-SAFE® system to trigger occupant protection measures to reduce the forces to which occupants are subjected. It can also firmly apply the stationary vehicle’s brakes in the event of a rear-end collision to prevent secondary accidents.
    • The Active Lane Keeping Assist now can detect when the adjacent lane is not clear, including when it is occupied by oncoming traffic. If a collision threatens, even if the lane marking is not a solid line the system can prevent the vehicle from leaving its lane unintentionally by applying the brakes on one side. It thus optimally supplements the Active Blind Spot Assist.
    • Active Parking Assist enables automated parking with active steering and brake control in both parallel and perpendicular spaces.
    • The 360-degree camera covers all four sides of the vehicle and enables a seamless all-around view including a virtual bird’s-eye perspective – with a top view of the vehicle and its direct surroundings. Dynamic guide lines are a help when entering and leaving parking spaces and maneuvering.

Professor Dr. Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development: “The new E-Class makes a big step forward in every respect. With an emotionally appealing design it provides for fresh highlights in its segment. And in technical respect it offers unique things. They include new assistance systems from the future S-Class which, for example, relieve driver stress with steering assist, DISTRONIC PLUS® and for the first time also can prevent accidents with crossing vehicles or pedestrians. In addition, the E-Class achieves best ratings in the area of efficiency, offers an internet-capable cloud-based infotainment system and improves night-time driving safety with state-of-the-art LED headlamps. So the E-Class is a veritable high-tech package – a very attractively packaged one at that.”

Drive system: high-performing and a model of efficiency

All the available engines for the 2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet now feature an ECO start/stop system and are highly efficient. The E350 features a directinjection V6 gasoline engine with 302 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. The E550 is powered by a twin-turbo direct-injection V8 producing 402 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque.

The E350 Coupe is also available in the U.S. with 4MATIC all-wheel-drive. The electronically-controlled system displays an impressive level of traction on all manner of terrain, raises active safety and offers an outstanding degree of driveline refinement.

Mercedes-Benz offers a 7-speed automatic transmission with DIRECT SELECT lever and shift paddles. This latest version of this transmission provides significant advantages in terms of efficiency and ease of maintenance. A new feature is the short-term ‘M’ mode. If the driver has shifted up or down manually, after a set period of time the transmission independently switches back to the fuel-efficient automatic shift mode.

The suspension – the basis for superior handling

The 2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet feature the AGILITY CONTROL suspension with selective damping system. Its shock absorbers adapt to the condition of the road surface and ensure sporty handling and long-distance comfort typical of Mercedes-Benz.

Alternatively available are the AGILITY CONTROL sports suspension with selective damping system and more tautly tuned dampers as well as the ADVANCED AGILITY package, which offers electronic damping control along with a program for selecting sportier accelerator characteristics and transmission shift points. With this, at the push of a button the driver can adjust the damping to his requirements depending on whether he wants to drive in a comfortable or sporty style.

Like the Sedan and Wagon, the Coupe and Cabriolet are equipped with an electromechanical Direct-Steer system as standard. It combines the speeddependent power assistance of speed-sensitive steering with a variable ratio across the steering angle range. The electromechanical Direct-Steer system ensures more direct steering response, comfortable handling, and high levels of steering comfort across all speed ranges. It also provides considerable savings potential, since energy is only required during steering action, and makes innovative assistance systems such as Active Parking Assist possible.

    High-quality appointments

The 2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet feature a comprehensive selection of premium equipment as standard. It includes a modern range of infotainment systems that allow the driver to keep up to date on what is happening around the world, or in the office, while on the road.

Standard equipment includes the COMAND system featuring a 7-inch highresolution color display, sound system w/ AM/FM/WB radio, in-dash DVD/CD player, in-dash memory card slot, auxiliary input jack and Bluetooth interface for hands-free calling.

Additionally, Mercedes-Benz offers the mbrace2 system as standard equipment. mbrace2 provides drivers top-of-the-line features related to safety, infotainment, personal assistance and vehicle care. mbrace2 creates a truly networked vehicle offering open Internet access and custom versions of popular apps, including Facebook, Yelp and Google Local Search designed specifically for in-vehicle use – called Mercedes-Benz Apps. It also includes a solution to remotely update software via cloud networks ensuring that mbrace2 users always have the latest app versions in their vehicles and at their fingertips. Sensible user design and limited functionality of these Internetbased apps ensures that they provide maximum utility without unnecessary distraction when the vehicle is in motion; certain features are not available for use when the vehicle is in motion.

New benchmark for performance, dynamic purpose and efficiency

    2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E63 AMG

    The new E63 AMG 4MATIC and S-Model

DETROIT – Mercedes-AMG continues to emphasize performance, dynamic purpose and efficiency: The new 2014 E63 AMG 4MATIC now features a redesigned, performance-oriented AMG all-wheel-drive system as standard equipment and is also available as an especially powerful SModel with output of 577 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The 5.5-liter AMG V8 Biturbo continues to be the benchmark of efficiency: No other competitor in this segment offers this combination of maximum performance and low fuel consumption. Permanent all-wheel drive is standard on all U.S. models – which also feature a power increase from 518 hp to 550 hp with a peak torque of 531 lb-ft. With this step Mercedes-AMG now for the first time offers powerful passenger cars with an all-wheel-drive system designed for vehicle dynamics. The 2014 E63 AMG 4MATIC goes on-sale in the U.S. this summer.

With the introduction of the new custom-tailored models, Mercedes-AMG offers its customers even more individuality than before. The 2014 E63 AMG 4MATIC is more powerful and sports a more dynamic outfit than all its predecessors: Even at first glance the new AMG design philosophy is immediately apparent. The new “twin blade” radiator grille and a new “A-wing” in the AMG front fascia define the exclusive appearance. As before, the top-of-the-line E-Class AMG model is available as a sedan and wagon. Also adding significantly to the new models’ appeal is the marked improvement in the price-performance ratio: E63 AMG 4MATIC customers now get even more power, better vehicle dynamics and a more extensive list of standard equipment.

The new product logic also benefits the CLS63 AMG: Like the E63 AMG 4MATIC, the CLS63 AMG is available as an S-Model and with the performanceoriented AMG all-wheel-drive system 4MATIC as standard. The addition of the E63 AMG and the CLS63 AMG means there are now also two all-wheel-drive passenger car models available from Mercedes-AMG besides the successful ML63 AMG, GL63 AMG, and G63 AMG SUV’s. Additional models equippedwith the performance-oriented AMG all-wheel-drive system 4MATIC such as Page 23 the CLA45 AMG will follow this year.

Ola Källenius, CEO Mercedes-AMG GmbH: “The philosophy of Mercedes-AMG is driving performance. With the new model variants of the E63 AMG 4MATIC and CLS63 AMG 4MATIC it is also becoming clear that we offer our customers even more individuality than before. In particular the S-Models represent the most attractive offer in the competitive segment and score decisive points with a significant improvement in their price-performance ratio: The most power and the highest torque in the segment, the new performance-oriented AMG all-wheel- drive system, the new design and a significantly more extensive standard-equipment package are among the outstanding strengths of the new high-performance automobiles from Affalterbach. With the innovative all-wheel- drive S-Models we will reach new customers and markets.”

Tobias Moers, head of overall vehicle development and member of the management board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH: “We have significantly honed the dynamic profile of the 2014 E63 AMG 4MATIC and the CLS63 AMG 4MATIC with the exclusive S-Models. Only AMG offers customers power and torque figures of such magnitude. Our AMG 5.5-liter V8 engine is still the world’s most efficient V8 built in series production. With the newly developed performance-oriented AMG all-wheel-drive system 4MATIC we not only deliver the best acceleration figures in the competitive segment, we also offer our customers markedly better vehicle dynamics than ever before.”

The models for the U.S. market at a glance (all figures preliminary):

With an acceleration time of 3.5 seconds for the sprint from rest to 60 mph, the S-Model of the E63 AMG 4MATIC holds an undisputed top position in the competitive environment; the electronically limited top speed is 186 mph. In addition to the power increase, the performance-oriented AMG all-wheel-drive system 4MATIC with a power distribution of 33 to 67 percent (front/rear axle) is also a major factor. Perfect traction during acceleration effectively prevents any losses due to wheel slip.

On the new S-Model the AMG 5.5-liter V8 Biturbo engine produces a peak power output of 577 hp and delivers a peak torque of 590 lb-ft – an increase by 27 hp over the previously available AMG Performance package option. The increase in performance and power is made possible by modifications to the engine management system, an increase in the peak injection pressure and a hike in maximum boost pressure from 13.0 to 14.5 psi. The base model also adds 32 hp and 15 lb-ft and now produces 550 hp of power and a peak torque of 531 lb-ft.

Despite the added power and improved performance all E63 AMG 4MATIC Page 25 models deliver high efficiency, low fuel consumption and low emissions. The AMG 5.5-liter V8 Biturbo engine is still the most efficient series-production V8 engine in its performance segment – and that with significantly more displacement than the direct competitors.

    2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E63 AMG S Wagon

AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission for a personal setup

Maximum individuality and custom-tailored dynamics are the strengths of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission. Four drive programs, “C” (Controlled Efficiency), “S” (Sport), “S+” (Sport plus) and “M” (Manual), provide each driver with a personal setup. In “C” mode the ECO start/stop function is active and shuts off the eight-cylinder engine when the car is at a standstill. In addition, the driver experiences smooth transmission characteristics with comfortable and early gearshifts. In “C” mode the car generally starts in second gear.

In the “S”, “S+” and “M” transmission modes the engine and transmission are significantly more agile and the ECO start/stop function is deactivated. Perfectly tailored to a spirited driving style is the partial suppression of the cylinders. A brief and precisely defined retardation of ignition and injection under open throttle results in even faster gearshifts and a more aggressive exhaust note. An automatic rev-matching function for downshifts and the RACE START function are also part of the standard features of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission.

    Performance-oriented all-wheel-drive system 4MATIC for maximum dynamics

The performance-oriented all-wheel-drive system sends 33 percent of the engine torque to the front and 67 percent to the rear axle. The rear-biased torque split ensures the high level of vehicle dynamics typical of AMG and maximum driving pleasure. The three-stage ESP® system is specifically calibrated to the permanent all-wheel-drive system. In “Sport Handling” mode the Torque Vectoring Brake applies the brakes to selected wheels in the interest of supreme agility: As a result, unwelcome understeer is prevented.

During cornering a targeted brief brake intervention on the inside rear wheel affects a defined turn-in of the vehicle.

The standard AMG all-wheel-drive system 4MATIC improves road safety and traction on wet or wintery roads. Optimal traction is ensured by a multi-plate clutch with a locking force of 37 lb-ft, which increases road adhesion particularly on ice and snow.

The technical basis is a transfer case for the additional power take-off to the driven front axle. It is integrated into the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission with minimum additional space requirements. The torque is transferred by the power take-off to the front axle via a drive shaft. The power from the front differential is transferred to the left half shaft by an intermediate shaft that runs in a sealed shaft tunnel in the engine oil pan. This compact and weight-optimized design results in a comparatively low added weight of just 154 lbs for the all-wheel-drive components.

    E63 AMG S-Model 4MATIC with limited-slip rear differential

Mercedes-AMG goes even one step further on the E63 AMG S-Model 4MATIC. In keeping with its philosophy of “Driving Performance” the most powerful E-Class is equipped with a limited-slip rear differential. This high-tech package increases traction even further. The effect: Even better vehicle dynamics and more driving pleasure, in particular on the racetrack.

All 2014 E63 AMG 4MATIC models are equipped with the AMG Adaptive sports suspension with electronically controlled damping system. The front axle features a steel suspension, the rear axle an all-air suspension system. A push of the button with the shock absorber symbol in the AMG DRIVE UNIT is all it takes to switch the electronics from “Comfort” to “Sport” or “Sport plus.” In conjunction with newly developed aluminum axle components this results in significantly more grip and agility while maintaining the vehicle’s neutral handling during fast cornering. The S-Model’s elastokinematics were perfectly tuned for performance and offer the driver optimal neutral handling at the limit as well as better feedback and grip. The E63 AMG 4MATIC’s track on the front axle is 1.9 inches wider than the standard E-Class sedan and offers significantly better stability at high cornering speeds and better road feel. A more negative camber on both axles additionally improves lateral dynamics.

The perfect complement is the electromechanical AMG sports speed-sensitive steering. In conjunction with the variable power assist dependent on the selected suspension mode, the direct steering ratio of 14 : 1 provides particularly agile cornering capabilities. The 2014 E63 AMG 4MATIC features high-sheen 10-spoke AMG alloys painted titanium gray as standard. The front axle features tires in size 255/35 R 19 (front) and 285/30 R 19 (rear) on AMG alloys in size 9.0 x 19 and 9.5 x 19. Only the powerful S-Model comes with 10- spoke alloys painted in matte titanium gray with high-sheen rim flanges.

AMG carbon ceramic high-performance braking system available as an option

As of course with all AMG cars, the 2014 E63 AMG 4MATIC also comes with an ultra-powerful AMG high-performance brake system. Vented and cross-drilled brake discs with a generous 14.2 in diameter are fitted front and rear. Because of the special stresses they face, the front discs feature compound (two-piece) technology that has been tried and tested in motor racing. Brake calipers painted silver with white AMG lettering and six pistons (front) and four pistons (rear) provide responsive, fade-resistant deceleration and shortest stopping distances. The S-Model can be additionally identified by red brake calipers.

AMG carbon ceramic high-performance brakes are available as an option exclusively on the S-Model – recognizable thanks to even bigger brake discs with a diameter of 15.8 in and the “AMG Carbon Ceramic” logo on the specially painted brake calipers. Their advantages: The discs are 40 percent lighter, reducing the unsprung masses and improving vehicle dynamics, agility and ride comfort. The ceramic discs are also much harder, resulting in an extended service life and in increased resistance to extreme loads and heat.

Unmistakable design with even more dynamic purpose and exclusivity

Dynamic purpose and performance are not only the focus of the fascinating technology of the new E63 AMG 4MATIC; the design also consistently transports these defining characteristics. Visually the AMG high-performance automobile sets new trends as the first AMG model to show off the new AMG design philosophy. Dominating elements are the silver-chrome AMG “twin blade” radiator grille and the so-called “A-wing.” The new three-dimensional air control element extends across the entire width of the AMG front fascia and sports the stylized “A” distinctive of AMG vehicles. The “A-wing” painted in body color with silver-chrome trim strip frames the three generously dimensioned cooling-air inlets. Black flics on the side air inlets ensure optimal airflow to the cooling modules; on the bottom a front splitter painted in body color contributes to increasing downforce. Convex and concave surfaces join the new, sculptured front end of the E63 AMG 4MATIC to the distinctive widened fenders, on which the “V8 BITURBO” lettering provides an indication of the superior engine power.

The side air outlets, the black mesh and the two chrome-plated dual tailpipes of the AMG sports exhaust system emphasize the width of the vehicle in the rear. The black diffuser insert with pronounced fins lends the rear of the E63 AMG 4MATIC a strong touch of racetrack ambiance.

S-Model with even more striking design features

The 2014 E63 AMG S-Model 4MATIC differs from the base model in numerous restyled and even more striking design features. The “A-wing” in the front has a black high-gloss finish; the front splitter and the striking three-dimensional inserts of the side skirts sport a silver-chrome design. The silver-chrome trim strip and the two unmistakable dual tailpipes of the AMG sport exhaust system provide a powerful effect in the rear. The AMG separation edge painted in body color (sedan only) reduces lift at high speeds.

The 10-spoke AMG alloys, painted matte titanium gray and featuring highsheen rim flanges, and the large tires in sizes 255/35 R 19 in front and 285/30 R 19 in the rear fill out the wheel wells perfectly. Red brake calipers and an AMG logo with contrasting black “S” on the trunk lid are further features of the S-Models.

    Interior with dynamic-exclusive interior

The interior of the E63 AMG S-Model 4MATIC comes with – depending on customer preferences – gray contrasting seams on the AMG sports seats, the door center panels, the armrests of the doors and the center console. The interior also features silver-colored seat belts in conjunction with a black interior. The grip areas of the black Nappa leather steering wheel rim with flattened top and bottom is finished in Alcantara® with gray contrasting seams. The front head restraints of the AMG sports seats are embossed with AMG crests. The redesigned AMG instrument cluster carries an “S AMG” logo on the 200 mph speedometer with red needles. The standard equipment also includes AMG door sill panels backlit in white, power rear roller blinds (sedan only) in addition to many other details.

Distinctive to all E63 AMG 4MATIC models are highest quality materials, excellent workmanship and the exclusive ambiance. The new AMG-specific analog clock in IWC design between the two central ventilation outlets serves as an appealing focal point.

Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end surround-sound system

A particular highlight in the selection of optional equipment for the E-Class Sedan and Wagon is the Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end surroundsound system. Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG have created this high-end sound system together with renowned Danish audio specialist Bang & Olufsen. The sound system is of course capable of Dolby Digital 5.1 playback and provides an exclusive music experience with unparalleled sound. The basis for this is not only the 1,200 watt amplifier and the 14 high-end speakers with neodymium drivers, but also the distribution of the music signals that is precisely controlled by the sound processor. This integrated digital sound processor (DSP) provides drivers with the option of selecting a special B&O sound menu on the COMAND system. In True Image™ mode individual sound settings for the front, center and rear can be selected. The effect: A realistic sound experience at the selected listening position. The “Sound Mode” menu also has various preset sound modes that allow choosing between a high-end “Reference” studio sound and a spacious surround sound. While “Reference” puts the focus on the sound presentation of the artist, the special surround sound mode delivers a spacious surround-sound experience. In particular live recordings or concertos result in a unique panoramic sound in the vehicle without altering the naturalness of the recording.

50-watt illuminated tweeters with acoustic lens technology arranged in the mirror triangle add special highlights. High-end Bang & Olufsen aluminum speaker covers in silver chrome with Bang & Olufsen logo additionally signal the exceptional position of the Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG high-end surround-sound system.

The U.S. market launch of the new all-wheel-drive E63 AMG 4MATIC and the E63 AMG S-Model 4MATIC will begin in the Summer of 2013.

    2014 Mercedes E63 AMG 4MATIC and S-Model Officially Revealed

Sprint time for the the S-Model of the E63 AMG 4MATIC is 3.5 seconds with top limited top speed of 186 mph

Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled their new 2014 E63 AMG Sedan Estate days ahead of their public world debut at the Detroit Auto Show next week.  The new E63 AMG comes with a far more aggressive front fascia with a bespoke grille and bumper, new headlamps, large air ducts and central splitter for increased air flow.  The rear of the E63 AMG has also been given a new style with quad tailpipes and an updated diffuser.

The new 2014 E63 AMG 4MATIC now features a redesigned, performance-oriented AMG all-wheel-drive system as standard equipment and is also available as an especially powerful S-Model with output of 577 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque.

Additional models equipped with the performance-oriented AMG all-wheel-drive system 4MATIC such as the CLA45 AMG will follow this year.

In particular the S-Models represent the most attractive offer in the competitive segment and score decisive points with a significant improvement in their price-performance ratio: The most power and the highest torque in the segment, the new performance-oriented AMG allwheel- drive system, the new design and a significantly more extensive standard-equipment package are among the outstanding strengths of the new high-performance automobiles from Affalterbach. With the innovative allwheel- drive S-Models we will reach new customers and markets.”

Despite the added power and improved performance all E63 AMG 4MATIC models deliver high efficiency, low fuel consumption and low emissions. The AMG 5.5-liter V8 Biturbo engine is still the most efficient series-production V8 engine in its performance segment – and that with significantly more displacement than the direct competitors.

Vented and cross-drilled brake discs with a generous 14.2 in. diameter are fitted front and rear.

AMG carbon ceramic high-performance brakes are available as an option exclusively on the S-Model – recognizable thanks to even bigger brake discs with a diameter of 15.8 in. and the “AMG Carbon Ceramic” logo on the specially painted brake calipers.

While “Reference” puts the focus on the sound presentation of the artist, the special surroundsound mode delivers a spacious surround-sound experience.

The New E63 AMG Revealed Ahead of Detroit

The new E-Class family demonstrates clear advances in terms of efficiency, ecology and dynamic driving

The 2014 Mercedes E63 AMG has been shown numerous times covered in camouflage, but now, we have the very first uncovered photo of it ahead of its Detroit reveal. Click here to go directly to the gallery where you can click below the picture to enlarge the photo full screen to check out all the details.

The E‑Class will be celebrating its world debut on January 14th at the International Auto Show in Detroit next week. The Saloon, Estate, Cabriolet and Coupé models have all been completely revised and boast a range of exceptionally efficient engines, new assistance systems and a new design idiom. Of interest not only to the US market will be the E 63 AMG models, now available for the first time in a 4MATIC version as well. The new E-Class is the forerunner in the most comprehensive model initiative to date in the executive and luxury segment: joining the E-Class, with a world premiere towards the middle of the year, will be the new S-Class. The initiative is being flanked by the launch of the new four-door coupé, the CLA, which aims to broaden the appeal of the brand to attract younger customers. This car, too, will be celebrating its debut in Detroit and will shortly also be joining the product line-up in the US.

The new E-Class family sees numerous technical innovations for the first time, while it also demonstrates clear advances in terms of efficiency, ecology and dynamic driving. Taking the lead here, amongst other features, are a series of new and powerful BlueDIRECT four-cylinder petrol engines with direct injection technology, a new high-performance, high-torque and yet fuel-efficient six-cylinder unit, as well as even more efficient diesel engines.

All models in the E-Class family are equipped with either new or optimised assistance systems that will be found in the forthcoming S‑Class. They blend comfort and safety in a way that Mercedes-Benz calls “Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive” and include systems that, for the first time, make it possible to prevent accidents with crossing vehicles or pedestrians; Active Lane Keeping Assist, which can also help prevent accidents with oncoming traffic; and anti-dazzle continuous main-beam headlamps (Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus). All of which help to underline the pioneering role of Mercedes-Benz when it comes to safety.

The trendsetting engineering of the E-Class is also reflected in its design. This has been reworked in intelligent style by Mercedes-Benz and is thus now firmly embedded in the company’s current design idiom.

Although the equipment and appointments packages have been significantly enhanced, the prices for the E-Class models remain at nearly the same level as for their predecessors. Some individual models are even available at a lower price than their predecessors.

More than 13 million vehicles sold in the E-Class segment

Dr Joachim Schmidt, Member of the Board of Management Mercedes-Benz Cars responsible for Sales and Marketing: “With more than 13 million vehicles sold, the E-Class segment represents one of the key building blocks of our Mercedes-Benz 2020 growth strategy. The launches of the new E-Class family and the S-Class during 2013 mark the beginning of our most comprehensive model initiative ever in this segment and once again set clear benchmarks in terms of safety, design, quality and efficiency. The letter “E” thus continues to represent the position of leadership in this demanding segment.”

Worldwide sales of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Saloon have reached some 11,250,000 units to date. Adding to this sales success are around 1,180,000 Estates, approximately 370,000 Coupés, 240,000 CLS and some 100,000 Cabriolets from the E-Class family. The Saloon model of the current E‑Class has been the vehicle of choice for some 600,000 buyers since its market launch in 2009, while the Estate model has found a home with around 100,000 customers over the same period.

The most successful Mercedes-Benz E-Class Saloon so far was the model series W 123, of which 2.4 million units were sold over the nine-year period that this model was built, from 1976 until 1985.

Over the years, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been the recipient of numerous awards for design, engineering, quality and innovations. The first half of 2012 saw the current model series add further significant awards to the list:

In May, 5000 fleet managers voted for their favourites among the manufacturers and service providers represented on their fleets for the German magazine “Flottenmanagement” (Fleet Management). In the upper medium-size category the Mercedes-Benz E-Class took Silver, along with the “Flottina” Award.

In June, the E-Class was revealed as the leading model in the executive luxury segment in terms of customer satisfaction according to the findings of the J.D. Power Study 2012, in a repeat of the previous year’s result.

Also in June, the specialist magazine FIRMENAUTO (Company Car), together with the independent expert organisation DEKRA, made the E-Class Estate E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID, as the overall winner in the upper medium-size category, their “Company car of the year”.

The new E-Class, which will be celebrating its world premiere at the Auto Show in Detroit on 14 January, continues on this successful course. The Mercedes-Benz press conference will be transmitted live from the NAIAS 2013 on Monday 14 January on www.daimler.gomexlive.com. The live stream may be used copyright-free and included as part of editorial website content via embed code.

    2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Officially Revealed

The Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabriolet are among the most coveted vehicles in the premium medium-size segment

Adding to the 2014 E-Class family, Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed their restyled the Coupe and Cabriolet. If you are short on time, skip directly below to the full photo gallery below showing both the interior and exterior of the 2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet.

The updated styling of the coupe and cabriolet is paired perfectly with Mercedes-Benz “intelligent drive” assistance systems. These new systems include technology that can help prevent accidents with crossing vehicles or pedestrians as well as an enhanced version of Active Lane Keeping Assist. Visually, Coupe and Cabriolet have been brought in line with the new Mercedes-Benz design idiom. These models also feature exclusive, luxurious appointments for refined driving, which are hallmarks of the entire E-Class family.

    2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet

    2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet

    2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Interior

    2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Interior

It can also firmly apply the stationary vehicle’s brakes in the event of a rearend collision to prevent secondary accidents.
    • Active Parking Assist enables automated parking with active steering and brake control in both parallel and perpendicular spaces

In addition, the EClass achieves best ratings in the area of efficiency, offers an internet-capable cloud-based infotainment system and improves night-time driving safety with state-of-the-art LED headlamps. So the E-Class is a veritable high-tech package – a very attractively packaged one at that.”

Drive system: high-performing and a model of efficiency

All the available engines for the 2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet now feature an ECO start/stop system and are highly efficient. The E350 features a directinjection V6 gasoline engine with 302 hp and 273 lb ft of torque.

It also provides considerable Page 7 savings potential, since energy is only required during steering action, and makes innovative assistance systems such as Active Parking Assist possible.
