Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim Featured C-Class Coupe and SLK Roadster

Miami Beach got a little hotter during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim where designers showed off their 2012 swim collections

Miami Beach got a little hotter this last week during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim where international designers showed off their 2012 swim collections and Mercedes gave insiders a first hand look at the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe.  The  5-day invitation-only event went from July 14-18, 2011 at The Raleigh and included several well known designers including LUXE, by Lisa Vogel, Diesel, Beach Bunny Swimwear, L*Space by Monica Wise, Caffé Swimwear, Mara Hoffman Swim, Aqua Di Lara, A Ché, Natori, Cia.Marítima, and Luli Fama.

“Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim attendees can always count on seeing unique swimsuit style concepts for the first time that represent designer labels from around the world,” said Lisa Holladay, manager of brand experience marketing for Mercedes-Benz USA. “It sets the stage to premier our latest designs like the all-new 2012 C-Class Coupe to those on the cutting-edge of fashion.”

The new C-Class Coupe made a splash poolside, steps from the iconic Raleigh pool, where the fashion elite congregated during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim to see and be seen. The Mercedes C-Class coupe delivers a combination of a modern and youthful aesthetic while still offering the style and sophistication we’ve come to expect from a Mercedes-Benz vehicle.  This is a design concept that captures the overall tone of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. Featuring unique compact proportions, a low silhouette and athletic lines, the C-Class Coupe is for the ambitious, ready to succeed driver. Packed with innovation, the vehicle offers a comprehensive level of driver support and protection including a number of driver assistance systems, ranging from ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection to optional LANE KEEPING Assist. The C-Class Coupe’s new telematics keep the driver connected with standard wireless Bluetooth, USB interface, SIRIUS weather information and destination search via Google. There is a choice of three models, including the extremely powerful C63 AMG.

As guests entered the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim tents on 18th street off Collins Avenue in South Beach, they were greeted by the also new for 2012 SLK Roadster. The Mercedes SLK combines sporty handling with stylish comfort that culminates into a striking two-seat roadster design with a retractable hardtop. A unique series of safety equipment makes the SLK a leader in its segment. Standard equipment on the vehicle includes, among other features, the ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection system. Mercedes-Benz is also the world’s first automotive manufacturer to offer the innovative panoramic vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL as optional equipment on the SLK. With this innovation, the transparent glass roof of the SLK can be darkened in a matter of seconds at the touch of a button.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe – Multimedia

Larger displays, new functions and internet access for the first time are among the main innovations of the new telematics systems

Larger displays, new functions and internet access for the first time are among the main innovations of the new telematics systems from Mercedes-Benz, all of which are available in the C-Class Coupé. The Bluetooth functions have also been extended: a mobile’s phone book can now be transferred automatically en bloc when connected, and incoming text messages can be displayed on the color screen.

Overview of the various items of equipment and their functions:

The standard specification includes the Audio 20 CD system with a twin tuner and CD player plus an Aux-in and USB connector. The connectors are within easy reach in a compartment in the centre armrest. The colour display has a diagonal of 14.7 cm. Thanks to a new “Cover Art” function, the title images of the music albums currently being played are shown if their details are stored in the audio file.

A new top line in the Audio 20 CD’s menu navigation makes orientation easier and can be operated via the controller. The settings for the air conditioning are also displayed on the telematics screen when being operated, as is the fuel consumption in the last 15 minutes. This type of consumption histogram is possible for the C 350 BlueEFFICIENCY, C 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and C 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY models. The Bluetooth functions have also been extended: a mobile’s phone book can now be transferred automatically en bloc when connected, and wireless music reproduction is possible from Bluetooth-capable terminals. Plus text messages can also be displayed. As an optional extra the Audio 20 CD can be combined with a six-disc CD changer, Media Interface, surround sound system (please see below for details), Convenience Telephony in the armrest, digital radio (DAB) and the new Becker® MAP PILOT entry-level navigation solution (details of this are also given below).

The COMAND Online multimedia system offers internet access for the first time. Customers can either browse the internet freely when at a standstill or access a Mercedes-Benz app; the latter’s pages can be called up particularly quickly and it is simple to operate even when driving. The integral apps include Google™ Local Search and weather. It is also possible to download a route that has been previously configured via Google Maps using a PC and sent to the vehicle. More Mercedes-Benz apps will be introduced gradually and then all customers will be able to use them. Telephones which can be used with COMAND Online apps are listed at www.mercedes-benz.com/connect

The high-resolution colour display has a diagonal of 17.8 cm. Photos can be shown on the large screen and turned over manually, as in a slide show. Where the audio equipment is concerned, too, new types of representation bring a fresh look and more convenient operation. The new Cover Flow function, for instance, sorts the title images of the music albums stored in a carousel-like form, so that the C-Class driver can easily leaf through their music collection – even if it is rather on the large side: the memory for compressed audio files (mp3, wma and aac formats) is now 10 GB in size. As an option COMAND Online is available with a six-disc DVD changer.

Greatest convenience is afforded by the Music Search function, which enables drivers and passengers to search the hard disc, SD memory cards, USB sticks, CDs and DVDs for specific music tracks and artists. The search can be according to various criteria, for instance album, music category or composer. If a name needs to be entered, the software will also tolerate spelling mistakes. The driver is therefore able to devote their full attention to the traffic. As a further advantage, the occupants are able to search all the connected media and devices simultaneously.

The fast hard-disc navigation system of COMAND Online also has added functions. New features include a 3D display with plastic city views. Also new: routes covered can be recorded and repeated later, specific personal destinations can be saved or imported via an SD card and four alternative routes can be displayed on the navigation map, one of them a particularly economical variation. Mercedes-Benz customers in Europe receive the current cards for their COMAND Online multimedia system free of charge for three years. Authorised Mercedes-Benz dealers upload the updates for navigation data in 39 European countries into the navigation system when the customer visits their premises.

In Europe, COMAND Online also comprises Speed Limit Assist, which receives its information for traffic sign recognition via a camera and navigation database. COMAND Online additionally includes the LINGUATRONIC voice-operated control system for audio, telephone and navigation. The new “One Shot” input function for the navigation system is particularly convenient, whereby the place and road can be said directly after one another. This function is currently available in seven languages and significantly enhances ease of operation.

The Becker® MAP PILOT makes a low-cost navigation function, which can also be retrofitted, available for the entry-level Audio 20 CD radio. Its advantages over aftermarket solutions include integrated operation via the central controls, voice output via the vehicle’s loudspeakers and display on the Audio 20 screen, a concealed location in the glove compartment and updating via an internet portal.

Mercedes-Benz developed the Logic7 surround sound system together with the audio specialist harman/kardon®. This high-end system delivers three-dimensional sound as a natural 360-degree musical experience for all passengers. The audio signals are distributed via a 450-watt amplifier connected to twelve high-performance loudspeakers. In conjunction with COMAND Online a multi-channel listening experience with Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS is possible.

The AMG Sports package combines attractive and exclusive optional extras, thus giving the coupé a sportier look. Package contents include the three-spoke multifunction sports steering wheel with flattened bottom section, AMG seven-spoke light-alloy wheels, sports pedals in brushed stainless steel with rubber studs, ATTENTION ASSIST and the AMG Styling package comprising front apron, side sill panels and rear apron. The lowered sports suspension and speed-sensitive sports steering afford more fun at the wheel. Ordering the Coupé with an automatic transmission and the AMG Sports package also gets you shift paddles on the steering wheel for changing gears manually. The AMG Sports package is available with all the engines in the line-up.

The Style package with its two-tone colour concept provides scope for maximum individualisation and can likewise be combined with all engine variants. The designo programme and numerous optional extras allow the C-Class Coupé to be individualised further. Examples include the Dynamic Handling package with Sport mode, lowering and speed-sensitive sports steering with a direct ratio, the electric panoramic sliding sunroof and the Intelligent Light System. The latter comprises bi-xenon headlamps with variable light distribution and dynamic headlamp range adjustment for country roads, motorways and dense fog, Adaptive Highbeam Assist, active light function, LED daytime running lamps and headlamp cleaning system.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe – In-Depth Interior

The C-Class Coupé is a fully fledged four-seater and is one of the most spacious models in its segment

The C-Class Coupé is a fully fledged four-seater and is one of the most spacious models in its segment. For example, there is 1372 mm and 1278 mm of shoulder room in the front and rear respectively. In terms of elbow room, the dimensions are 1443 mm and 1335 mm. Another key figure of relevance to freedom of movement is the hip room between the front and rear seats of 789 mm.

All four seats feature sporty yet comfortable integral seats. At 273 mm, the C-Class Coupé offers the most scope for longitudinal seat adjustment in this market segment. The front seats come with electric height and backrest adjustment as standard. There is an optional memory package which includes electric adjustment with memory function for the front seats, front head restraints, steering column and exterior mirrors, as well as four-way lumbar support for the driver and front passenger. Heating and ventilation for the front seats are also available as optional extras (the latter when combined with leather upholstery).

Standard equipment for the coupé includes a mechanical entry and exit aid for the rear passengers also known as the EASY-ENTRY system. It is operated using a lever next to the head restraint, which initially tilts the seat backrest forwards. The seat can then be pushed forwards. The rear seat backrests have a 1/3 to 2/3 split-folding design and can be moved using the convenience feature in the luggage compartment (standard with the exception of the C 180 BlueEFFICIENCY). ISOFIX, the standardised attachment system for child seats, is included in the back as part of the standard specification. The boot capacity is 450 litres (according to the VDA measuring method).

The C-Class Coupé comes as standard with a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with four buttons and a shift/selector lever handle, both in nappa leather. A three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with twelve buttons is offered as an optional extra, which is supplied with a high-resolution colour display (screen diagonal 114 mm) in the instrument cluster’s speed display, as well as ATTENTION ASSIST. If the vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission and the AMG Sports package or the Dynamic Handling package, the steering wheel is fitted with shift paddles. The electronic KEYLESS-GO access and drive authorisation system is available as an option.

As standard, the C-Class Coupé has the two-zone THERMATIC automatic climate control system combined with green heat-insulating glass. Available as an option are dark-tinted side and rear windows, plus a large, electrically operated panoramic sliding sunroof and auxiliary heater.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe – In-Depth Design

At the front, the coupé shares the same styling as the latest C-Class and yet still has its own twist

From the side, the coupé beguiles the onlooker with its compact proportions, low silhouette (41 mm flatter than the saloon) with powerful shoulders and narrow C-pillar in a classic three-box design. Typical coupé features include the short front overhang, long bonnet, steeply raked windscreen and long, stretched out roof. The greenhouse extends far beyond the rear axle over the low-raked rear window to a sportily short tail end.

While the wedge-shaped, sloping beltline demonstrates affinity with the C-Class, its strong upsweep into the C-pillar is an entirely distinctive element. The final part of the beltline trim moves sharply upwards to meet the roofline trim. This upsweep not only adds a sporty flourish to the way the side windows look; the shaping at the bottom of the C-pillar also enhances the powerful shoulders.

Front and rear: truly a coupé, truly C-Class

At the front, the coupé shares the same styling as the latest C-Class and yet still has its own twist. The front view is dominated by the prominent radiator grille surround including the bumper. The centre air intake opens upwards, forming a visual base unit for the radiator grille which has the double-louvre style typical of a coupé. Two chrome louvres extend left and right either side of the central star, tapering off at the outer edges and creating a sporty, arrow-shaped horizontal sweep which gives the front end a pronounced V-shape.This continues into the side sections which extend from beneath the headlamps and blend into the feature lines along the vehicle flanks, thereby linking the front end with the sides. The side air intakes in the bumper featuring integrated, horizontal daytime running lamps are positioned low down, giving the coupé a road-hugging appearance. The shape of the clear-lens headlamps creates a dynamic impression, and acts together with the bonnet, radiator grille and bumper trim to reinforce the pronounced front section.

The rear of the C-Class Coupé looks sportily short. Because the roof flows beyond the rear axle with the steeply raked rear window and fluid C-pillars, the appearance of length is reduced. A wide chamfer at the top of the boot lid, which is based on the side panel, highlights the rear’s compactness. Positioning the tail lights as far apart as possible emphasises width. The particular impression of depth is achieved by a centrally located LED indicator, which appears to float in front of the red upper and lower light bands with their more deeply set LEDs. Continuous, horizontal light-catching contours in the bumper further accentuate the broad, deep-set effect. A diffuser towards the bottom of the rear bumper makes the rear end look lighter and gives the vehicle a sporty and dynamic quality.

The interior: highest quality with exclusive colour accents

A highlight in the interior is the coupé seats with integral head restraints and single seats in the rear, thereby demonstrating the car’s sporty credentials to the driver. The dashboard reveals a strong, sporty and high-quality design including three tube rings with a galvanised finish. As standard, the coupé comes with the new generation of three-spoke steering wheel with its chromed central spoke that first appeared on the new CLS. The touch surfaces of the controls are finely detailed and galvanised. The stepped top of the instrument cluster also accommodates the central display and continues onto the front passenger side as a discreet light-catching contour. The central, trapezoidal air vents and the round vents on the outside are highlighted in detail by galvanised trim. The control panel of the communication and information unit with high-gloss areas in black and silver-coloured, galvanised keys underlines the high perceived value of the interior.

A large section of trim is a high-quality part of the dashboard instrument panel. This extends from the centre air vents across the front passenger side to the outer air vent, emphasising the interior’s generous proportions. As a new feature, the trim parts are available in a porcelain piano-lacquer look in the style package and for the Edition 1, so complementing the car’s exclusive interior feel. Alternatively there is a choice of a black high-gloss piano-lacquer look, dark aluminium, AMG carbon piano-lacquer look or matt brown ash.

In general, the striking and sporty lines of the exterior are continued into the interior. For example, the doors and rear side linings pick up on the form of the coupé’s side line. The beltline, which is available in a darker contrasting tone to the door lining as an option, opens up to the front and in conjunction with the generous section of trim and top edge of the midsection creates a dynamic shape that surges forward.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe Ad Campaign Targets Younger Demographic

At the heart of the campaign is the interactive web video "Drive & Seek", which was launched already in March

Mid-May will see the start of a comprehensive, integrated campaign by Mercedes-Benz to accompany the launch of the C-Class Coupé, the brand’s first coupé in the compact car segment. Under the slogan “More style per hour”, the company is staging a multi-channel campaign highlighting the sporty two-door’s dynamic design and value. For the very first time, all moving picture content for online and traditional media have been shot in one comprehensive film production, ensuring that all images – from web specials to pre-rolls and banner ads to cinema ads and product films – have a standardised appearance. The project is one of the most elaborate moving picture projects the company has ever undertaken, with filming locations in South Africa, Malaysia and Singapore.

“The C-Class Coupé campaign does a wonderful job of reflecting the identity of the vehicle – agility and design”, says Anders Sundt Jensen, Vice President Brand Communications Mercedes Benz Cars. “In addition to current Mercedes-Benz drivers, with the C-Coupé we are particularly aiming for a new, younger target group, hence the modern campaign approach.”

Web video with interactive agent thriller

At the heart of the campaign is the interactive web video “Drive & Seek”, which was launched already in March on www.mercedes-benz.com/c-coupe. The thriller is about the theft of a work of art, a car chase starring the new C-Class Coupé and the hero agents, who rely on the help of the user, who must stay focused and make split-second decisions in order to capture the thieves and return the painting to its rightful owner. Four short films highlight the C-Class Coupé’s top features in terms of agility, design, safety and comfort. The web special is accompanied by cinema-poster-style ads and posters.

There are also a number of online activities like banner ads on auto-motor-sport.de, apps for the iPhone and the iPad, and other social media activities associated with the launch and directly related to the web thriller.

Traditional print and cinema ads

Traditional print ads started on 11 May, and they too, show off the sporty and dynamic qualities and sleek design of the new C-Class Coupé perfectly. Three different ad images show the vehicle with a high-gloss finish in palladium silver on a disused air field in Jerez de la Fontera, Spain, where parts of the web thriller were also shot. In the bright midday sun, the Coupé comes across as a shining jewel. Messages such as “More style per hour, “Awe. Inspiring” or “Adrenaline accelerator included” accentuate the vehicle’s modern image. The two 45- and 30-second cinema ads also take a humorous approach to the campaign slogan “More glances per hour”. They will begin screening on 19 May and are a sequel to the web thriller, linking back to the bank robbery featured in the film.

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Performance Modifications by Wimmer

Modification of the C63 AMG V8 Motor includes above all things sports camshaft and the cylinder head reworked

When it comes to progressive vehicle development, the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG from Munich, more specifically Ingolstadt / Neckarsulm, ranks at the top among its competitors. Even in the serial configuration, this car allows the driver to exceptional driving experience and makes the them both a connoisseur and a winner. Wimmer Rennsporttechnik from Solingen has managed to personify the term “driving fun” with their Mercedes C63 AMG version. Wimmer Rennsporttechnik has managed to breath even more performance into the 6.3 liter C-Class.

Modification of the V8 Motor with standard 6.3-liter engine includes above all things sports camshaft and the cylinder head reworked. Manifold, down pipe and high flow catalytic converters are the next stages. After optimization of the air intake, installation of a stainless steel exhaust system and a sport air filter adaptation by Wimmer-Motorelektronik goes without saying. The result of all these measures is powerful 601 hp and 720 Nm of torque – a by no means despised value. The total result is ultimately power to weight ratio of 2.79 kg / hp. As a result, in comparison with the approved Vmax of 306 km/h, the “unlocked” Vmax value can now reach 329 km/h. The engine conversion by Wimmer costs 19,900 Euro.

The fact that the C63 AMG no longer has the original wheel/tire combination is needless to say. The choice dropped on BBS CH-R alloy wheels in dimensions of 8.5 or 9.5 x 19 inches. The car is fitted with the Dunlop tires in the dimensions of 235/35-19 at the front axle and 265/35-19 – at the rear axle. The in-house suspension proposed at 3600 Euros was installed again.

The men from Wimmer Rennsporttechnik showcase once again present the perfect conversion of a vehicle, in which it is very difficult to resist temptation to step into and take it to the road.

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Spied Testing

The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series Saloon will offer up right around 510 horsepower

For those of you out there that need more than the current C63 AMG’s 451 horsepower engine, Mercedes is working on a C63 AMG Black Series that will most certainly fulfill your needs. The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series will offer up right around 510 horsepower, which for those of you counting is 29 more than the current C63 AMG equipped with P31 Development Package. With these figures, we expect the 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8 as the choice engine.

Some reports have come in that there could be a possibility of a 5.5 liter twin-turbo V8 offering 571 bhp. While we are leaning towards the 6.2 NA option, we will certainly keep you posted if we find out anything concrete.

The C63 AMG Black Series that was spotted testing in Sweden was sporting wider fenders and a new front spoiler, as well as an updated rear diffuser taking inspiration from Formula One. While still in development, the C63 AMG Black Sereies test car is using the prior front fascia not found on the new 2012 car, however w will likely see the updated headlamps and LED running lights as part of the new package.

The saloon version of the new Mercedes C63 AMG Black Series will be launched first, followed by a coupe soon after.

Thanks to Andrus and Gmotors for the tip.

New Generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class Advertising Campaign

Using a mix of channels that combines the print media, TV, radio and Internet, the campaign depicts the C-Class in dynamism

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class will be without question a best seller for Mercedes-Benz.  To match the restyled design of the all new C-Class sedan and Estate and to reach its true sales potential, Mercedes launched a huge new ad campaign.  The launch from Mercedes-Benz is set to be a major campaign that accompanies the public launch of the new-generation C-Class. With its claim to be “a class ahead”, the integrated marketing campaign coolly and confidently underscores the C-Class’s ambition to lead its segment. Thanks to a newly enhanced interior, which now meets the highest standards of design and comfort, in addition to an extremely comprehensive safety package, the latest generation of the top-selling Mercedes model offers the same high level as the current luxury class vehicles – and will once again set new standards in the compact intermediate premium segment.

“With the new-generation C-Class, Mercedes-Benz is making its latest innovations available to the intermediate class,” says Anders Sundt Jensen, Vice President Brand Communications Mercedes-Benz Cars. “With an approach that is both provocative and charming in style, the campaign turns a spotlight on the car’s innovative safety and comfort features, as well as on the high level of design quality found particularly in the interior.”

Using a broad-reaching mix of communication channels that combines the print media, TV, radio and the Internet, the campaign depicts the new-generation C-Class in dynamic vein. In particular a strong TV presence will guarantee broad visibility over the three-week period. The two 45 and 30-second TV advertisements take a humorous and cinematographic approach to the C-Class Saloon and Estate models, focusing in particular on the innovative ATTENTION ASSIST system, which detects and provides early warning of the onset of driver drowsiness. The 20-second pre-roll entitled “Souvenir” takes a enjoyable approach to the C-Class Estate’s 1,500-litre load capacity.

Whereas the TV ads and pre-roll are filmed in rural surroundings, for the print media the C-Class is photographed against an urban backdrop. The “living city look” highlights in particular the sportiness and dynamic qualities of the new-generation bestseller. In each case the vehicles are depicted in front of a real urban backdrop, which although unidentifiable in detail has been digitally enhanced to heighten the dramatic effect. Each advertisement highlights an outstanding feature of the new C-Class with a succinct message, for example “Never be content with only a little. Except when it comes to emissions.” to promote the car’s outstanding economy. In addition, a series of radio bi-spots will invite the general public to attend a dealership day on 26 March 2011.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan Option List

The newly redesigned 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan is scheduled to arrive in the U.S. in August of 2011

The newly redesigned 2012 C-Class sedan is scheduled to arrive in the U.S. in August of 2011. The front and rear end of the popular Mercedes-Benz sedan have been enhanced with a more distinctive design. The luxurious interior is now emphasized by the stylish new dashboard, which features a premium, fine-grain finish and stylish trim elements, as well as a high-resolution color display in the instrument cluster. Fuel economy has been improved by as much as 15 percent, thanks to new direct-injection engines and the redesigned 7-speed automatic transmission. Five new driver assistance systems ranging from the ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection system through to the Blind Spot Assist are now available in the C-Class lineup. New-generation telematics offer new infotainment and navigation features.  Scroll down to view a complete options list for the C250, C300 and C350.

The U.S. model line-up consists the:

  • C250 RWD : 1.8L Turbo I4 , 201 hp / 229 lb-ft
  • C300 4MATIC: 3.0L V6, 228 hp / 221 lb-ft
  • C350 RWD: 3.5L V6, 302 hp / 273 lb-ft

The Mercedes-Benz management team on the C-Class:

“The C-Class Sedan has been the global market leader in its segment since 2008, so it is highly topical. But the comprehensive updating of our high-volume model also shows that even in the global economic crisis we have had the strength to invest in our product portfolio without making any compromises. For us the new-generation C-Class with more than 2000 new parts is a facelift – others would speak of a new car.” Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars

“We are currently making greater leaps forward than ever before in the history of the car where efficiency is concerned. This becomes clear if you compare our compact top model from 1989, the 190E 2.5-16 Evo I, with the current C220 CDI. The performance is virtually identical, and in the space of just 20 years consumption has been halved, whilst comfort, safety and emission characteristics have drastically improved at the same time. And we are certainly keeping up this speed: we are inventing the car for the second time.” Dr Thomas Weber, Member of the Daimler Board of Management responsible for Group Research and Head of Development, Mercedes-Benz Cars

“In order to keep delivery times as short as possible for our customers, we have production of the C-Class running at full steam in three plants. We introduce the extensive changes for the new generation, such as the hood made of aluminum, on the production line in a flying changeover. This is a challenge for logistics and processes, and it is only thanks to the motivation and flexibility of our employees that we can do this with confidence. Some of our competitors envy us for this ‘Daimler spirit’.” Dr Wolfgang Bernhard, Member of the Daimler Board of Management responsible for Production and Purchasing, Mercedes-Benz Cars Daimler Communications

“The drive system and safety systems in the new-generation C-Class offer the comfort, efficiency and safety of our luxury vehicles. The new telematics generation connects the C-Class with the internet. Plus, with many significant details in the interior, the vehicle calls to mind the new CLS and sets totally new standards in its segment where the quality impression is concerned.” Dr Joachim Schmidt, Member of Mercedes-Benz Cars Management responsible for Sales and Marketing

“The new-generation C-Class also sets the pace in its segment when it comes to design. This is especially apparent in the interior: fine materials displaying painstaking attention to detail and the generous use of trim parts add an exclamation mark: the C-Class is dressed up to the nines.” Prof. Gorden Wagener, Head of Design, Mercedes-Benz Cars

Design

Expressive, resolute, self-assured

  • Striking: restyled bumpers, hood and headlamps
  • Eye-catching: tail lights with an impression of depth thanks to LED indicators
  • High-grade redesigned dashboard emphasizes premium standard

The C-Class has undergone a comprehensive makeover. The bumper now has a more distinctive and dynamic design, with the front end adopting the brand’s new design language. The center air intake opens upward in a v-shape and forms the core element of the grille design, while istinctive lines emerge from the base of the aggressive arrow design in the center. Running beneath the headlamps, these character lines transition into the side profile. The outboard air intakes in the bumper are positioned very low down to give the car a more muscular stance.

The C-Class features a new aluminum hood, which helps reduce weight to improve fuel efficiency. Contours around the headlamps and grille bring additional emphasis to the front-end arrow form. Working together with the redesigned headlamps, the overall front-end look is far more distinctive.

Modified clear glass headlamps create a more dynamic and determined look and, together with the hood, grille and bumper, enhance the arrow visual at the front end. This precise, contemporary look is reinforced by the design of both the exterior and interior of the headlamp units, which feature a finely balanced interplay between matte and gloss surfaces. The halogen headlamps follow the classic format with low beam located on the outside and high beam in the inside, while the indicator lamps are discreetly positioned in the outer corners toward the fenders.

The available bi-xenon headlamps come with active functions and bring added depth to the appearance with a series of LED modules. A C-shaped positioning light defines the nighttime design, with cornering lights located behind it and stretching outward to the main lamp module. At the base of the headlamps are broad horizontal LED indicator units. Also horizontal are the LED daytime running lights located in the bumper, which make the C-Class unmistakable from a distance.

On the rear bumper, the character lines and shutlines have been modified to add emphasis to the vehicle’s stance. This is especially evident in the steep rise of the character line running outward toward the rear lights. A continuous character line on the upper edge of the rear bumper runs into the fenders of the C-Class to provide a connection to the sides and emphasizes the sporty character of the rear view. A new one-piece jewel case on the tail lights provides further integration into the rear of the vehicle. The characteristic sinuous surface line is now reflected on the inside of the lights and is reminiscent of earlier models.

The distinctive depth of the lights is achieved by LED indicators located in the center that appear to float in front of the more deeply set red LED bands above and below. The rear light pattern is particularly distinctive at night.

The redesigned tail lights are even more neatly integrated into the tail end by a continuous covering lens. The characteristic surface meander is now on the inside of the light, and reminiscent of preceding model series. The impression of depth is achieved by a centrally located LED indicator, which appears to float in front of the red upper and lower light bands.

In all its finery: restyled dashboard and high-grade surfaces

One focal point of the work done in the interior was the redesign of the dashboard with the aim of creating a powerful, sporty and premium look-and-feel that includes extensive enhancement to the trim. The surfaces of the controls are more finely detailed and feature a metallic finish. The stepped hood of the instrument binnacle now extends to incorporate the central display and runs onward into the passenger side enhanced by a subtle character line. The central, trapezoidal air vents and the outer circular vents are accentuated with metallic trim elements.

Central to the design of the new dashboard is a prominent trim panel which stretches from the central air vents along the passenger side to the outer air vent, adding visual width to the interior. The surface grain on the top portion of the dashboard continues along the upper edges of the door panels.

The new-generation center console is distinguished by its rectangular silver keys and emphasizes the premium feel of the interior in combination with matte keys, high-gloss surfaces and a new knurled control knob. Together with the new-generation telematics, the restyled C-Class also receives a new instrument binnacle with integrated display. Oriented toward the driver are three tubular gauge surrounds with metallic surfaces that further enhance the character of the C-Class.

The luxury feel is emphasized by the new-generation leather steering wheel introduced with the all-new CLS and now available as standard in the C-Class. The steering wheel features a chrome-plated central spoke and further accentuates the car’s stylish and sporty ambience.

Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Offers Enhanced Technology

The C63 AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission impresses with its exceptional flexibility

The successful Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG is now more attractive than ever: the modified design of the top-of-the-range C-Class model is complemented by numerous enhancements to its technology which deliver even more driving enjoyment while reducing fuel consumption significantly. The introduction of the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission with the “Controlled Efficiency” mode as standard along with a new power steering pump helps to reduce the combined NEDC fuel consumption by about ten percent to 12.0 l/100 km (Estate: 12.3 l/100 km). The output of the AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine is unchanged at 336 kW (457 hp) and can be increased to a maximum of 358 kW (487 hp) with the optional AMG Performance package. Agility, grip and ride comfort have been enhanced as a result of numerous measures to optimise the AMG sports suspension. New assistance systems and a new generation of telematics with internet access increase both safety and comfort.

The latest 2011 generation of the C 63 AMG is now more dynamic and athletic than ever. Thanks to its new radiator grille with a large Mercedes star and a wing-type transverse louvre, as well as a new AMG front apron with a lower cross member painted in high-gloss black, special AMG daytime running lights and side air outlets, the front section recalls the look of the SL 63 AMG high-performance roadster. The new bonnet with its modified powerdomes is now made of aluminium. New clear-lens headlamps emphasise the car’s distinctive, self-confident presence, especially when the optional Intelligent Light System (ILS) is also specified. The wide front wings with the “6.3 AMG” legend and the new 5 twin-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels which are painted in titanium grey and have a high-sheen finish dominate the side view. Good contact with the road is provided by the wide 235/40 R 18 and 255/35 R 18 tyres at front and rear respectively.

The rear view of the C 63 AMG also evokes the SL 63 AMG: the new AMG rear apron has a distinctive, black diffuser insert with three pronounced diffuser fins. The two chromed twin tailpipes of the AMG sports exhaust system are as pleasing to the ear as they are to the eye.

AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission from the SL 63 AMG

Under the skin, too, the top C-Class model boasts a wealth of new technology including the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission – another advanced feature adopted from the SL 63 AMG. Rather than using a torque converter, this innovative transmission has a wet start-off clutch which allows it to deliver a much more efficient, agile and direct response. Fuel consumption and emissions have been reduced significantly thanks to the “Controlled Efficiency” mode and a new power steering pump: at 12.0 litres per 100 km (Estate: 12.3 l/100 km) the combined NEDC fuel consumption of the C 63 AMG is 1.4 litres (Estate: 1.3 litres) lower than that of the predecessor model; this represents a reduction in fuel consumption of some ten percent. The CO2 emissions figure is now 280 (Estate: 288) grams per kilometre. Both power variants have identical fuel consumption and emission figures.

The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission impresses with its

exceptional flexibility: with four driving modes as well as double-declutching and RACE START functions it is as compatible with a relaxed, fuel-saving driving style as it is with high-speed laps on a closed racing circuit and extremely dynamicovertaking manoeuvres. The Controlled Efficiency “C” mode is programmed to provide early, comfortable upshifts while maintaining the lowest possible engine speed to help the driver keep fuel consumption down. The “S”, “S+” and “M” modes deliver increased agility through fast, responsive gear changes and higher revs. Gear changes in the “S+” and “M” modes take just 100 milliseconds.

The naturally aspirated eight-cylinder engine with its large displacement of 6208 cc develops 336 kW (457 hp) at 6800 rpm and attains a peak torque of 600 newton metres at 5000 rpm. A look at the performance figures confirms that the new C 63 AMG retains its predecessor’s position as the top performing model in its segment: acceleration from standstill to 100 km/h takes just 4.5 seconds (Estate: 4.6 s) while the top speed is 250 km/h (electronically limited).

Performance package: technology transfer from the SLS AMG

Even more dynamic performance is available with the optional AMG Performance package: this offers 358 kW (487 hp) and allows a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 4.4 seconds (Estate: 4.5 s). The Mercedes-AMG engine experts have achieved this increase in output thanks to a technology transfer from the SLS AMG: the forged pistons, connecting rods and the lightweight crankshaft all come from the gullwing model’s engine. The reduced mass inertia of the components – which are three kilograms lighter than those of the standard version – allows the naturally aspirated eight-cylinder engine to rev up with even greater ease and agility. Models equipped with the performance package can be identified by the variable intake manifold painted in titanium grey under the bonnet, the AMG high-performance braking system with composite front discs and red painted brake calipers all round, the carbon-fibre spoiler lip on the boot lid (Saloon) and the AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather with an Alcantara® grip area.

Optimised suspension, new steering system reduces fuel consumption

The AMG sports suspension with a special front axle, reinforced rear axle and wider track all round has undergone thorough modification; the driver benefits from this in two ways as the C 63 AMG now offers greater driving enjoyment and ride comfort at all times. The new, stiffer elastokinematics, the revised axle kinematics with more negative camber all round and the new rear-axle anti-roll bar with a larger cross-section result in higher agility and greater lateral acceleration. But driving dynamics is not the only area in which progress has been made: new spring and damper rates have optimised both the responsiveness of the suspension as well as the road roar and tyre vibration characteristics.

The AMG speed-sensitive sports steering with a direct ratio (13.5 : 1) has a newly developed power-steering pump which plays a decisive role in reducing the fuel consumption. This is because the power assistance for the steering only requires energy when the driver is actually making steering movements. Reliable deceleration at all times is ensured by the AMG high-performance braking system with internally ventilated and perforated discs all round.

Interior: high quality and perceived value

Even a quick glance at the interior of the C 63 AMG reveals the considerable progress which has been made: the completely new dashboard design with an integrated screen impresses with its particularly attractive appearance and the superior quality of the details which immediately bring the new CLS 63 AMG to mind. The quality look and feel meet the highest standards. The new, all-colour, three-dimensional TFT display in the middle of the redesigned speedometer welcomes the driver by showing the AMG logo. The new three-spoke AMG performance steering wheel – another feature adopted from the CLS 63 AMG – which is trimmed in nappa leather and features a metallic trim element has flattened top and bottom sections as well as grip areas which are specially shaped and trimmed in perforated leather for perfect steering control. Aluminium shift paddles allow manual gear selection.

Fine trim elements in brushed dark aluminium are to be found on the dashboard and doors. Situated in the centre console, which is enhanced with high-gloss black piano lacquer trim elements, is the new rotary control for selecting the transmission modes C, S, S+, M and RACE START. The special AMG sports seats with integral head restraints and adaptive backrests are available from launch with combined ARTICO/DINAMICA black upholstery. DINAMICA is a new type of breathable man-made fibre which is pleasant to the touch and is characterised by low emissions and a high degree of lightfastness. The side bolsters of the AMG sports seats are covered in ARTICO while the centre panels of the seat cushions are also upholstered with DINAMICA.

Available as an option, designo leather appointments give the interior of the C 63 AMG a particularly exclusive character: four single colours and three two-tone combinations are available. 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe International Release

There are 3 gas engines and 2 diesel powerplants to power the C-Class Coupe, all equipped with ECO start/stop function as standard

What more dynamic way to celebrate the invention of the automobile? The expressive C-Class Coupé sees Mercedes-Benz, now in its 125th year of corporate history, entering a new market segment and for the first time offering a compact, classic coupé. This youthful, sporty two-door car will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in early March and making its way to customers from June. The new model deploys the progressive technology featured on the recently launched new generation of the

C-Class to deliver an impressive coupé format that combines pure fun at the wheel with exemplary efficiency. In terms of attitude, this debuting model is tailored to a customer group aged 35 to 45 for whom professional success, love of life and a strong sense of responsibility are all important.

“By extending the C-Class portfolio, we are consciously targeting new customers,” says Dr Joachim Schmidt, Head of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Cars. “The new model is youthful, stylish and dynamic. What we are offering is an exceptionally sporty way to enter the world of the Mercedes-Benz coupé.”

The design: dynamic with classic coupé proportions

From the side, the new coupé beguiles the onlooker with its compact proportions, low silhouette (41 mm flatter than the saloon) with powerful shoulders and a narrow C-pillar in a classic three-box design. Typical coupé features include the short front overhang, long bonnet, steeply raked windscreen and long, stretched out roof. The greenhouse extends far beyond the rear axle over the rear window in its flat position to a sportily short tail end.

At the front, the new coupé shares the same styling as the latest C-Class and yet still has its own twist. The front view is dominated by the prominent radiator grille surround including the bumper. The centre air intake opens upwards, forming a visual base unit for the radiator grille which has the double-louvre style typical of a coupé. Two chrome louvres extend left and right either side of the central star, tapering off at the outer edges and creating a sporty, arrow-shaped horizontal sweep which gives the front end a pronounced V-shape.

This continues into the side sections which extend from beneath the headlamps and blend into the feature lines along the vehicle flanks, thereby linking the front end with the sides.

From the rear, the new C-Class Coupé looks sportily short. A diffuser towards the bottom of the rear bumper between the exhaust system’s tailpipe trim makes the rear end look lighter and gives the vehicle a distinctively sporty and dynamic quality.

The interior: highest quality with exclusive colour accents

The dashboard instrument panel features a strong, sporty and high-quality design. Three tube rings with a galvanised finish demonstrate the car’s sporty credentials to the driver. The control panel of the new-generation communication and information unit has silver-coloured keys. The combination of matt keys, high-gloss areas and a new thumbwheel design underlines the high perceived value of the interior.

A large section of trim is a high-quality part of the dashboard instrument panel. This extends from the centre air vents across the front passenger side to the outer air vent, emphasising the interior’s generous proportions. For the first time in automotive engineering, the trim parts are available in the style package and in a porcelain piano-lacquer look for the Edition 1 to complement the car’s exclusive interior feel. Alternatively there is a choice of a black piano-lacquer look, nougatine burr walnut wood, dark aluminium or brown ash burl.

The C-Class Coupé is a fully fledged four-seater featuring four sporty, comfortable integral seats. If desired, the backrests in the rear can be folded down to make the boot larger.

The new telematics generation: enhanced ease of operation and attractive good looks

The C-Class Coupé features a new telematics generation which received its global premiere on the saloon and estate models. Major new features include greater operating convenience, larger displays, phone book transfer, display of SMS messages, wireless music reproduction via Bluetooth and a USB interface now accommodated in the centre armrest.

The multimedia system COMAND Online now provides internet access for the first time. When the car is stationary, customers are able to browse freely or surf to a Mercedes-Benz Online service whose pages load particularly rapidly and are also easy to use while on the move. The integrated services include weather information and a special destination search via Google, as well as the option of downloading a route that has been previously configured on a PC using Google Maps and sent to the car. The navigation system of COMAND Online also has added functions. New features include a 3D display with plastic city views. Also new: routes covered can be recorded and repeated later, specific personal destinations can be saved or imported via an SD card and four alternative routes can be displayed on the navigation map, one of them a particularly economical variation.

The Becker® MAP PILOT makes a low-cost navigation function, which can also be retrofitted, available for the entry-level Audio 20 CD radio. Its advantages over aftermarket solutions include integrated operation via the central controls and the Audio 20 display, a concealed location in the glove compartment and updating via an internet portal.

The drive system: plenty of performance, low fuel consumption

There is a choice of three petrol engines and two diesel powerplants to power the C-Class Coupé. All are equipped with direct injection and the ECO start/stop function as standard. All the engine variants are classed as BlueEFFICIENCY units, showing that they are particularly efficient and environmentally friendly in their use of fuel. All automatic versions feature the further-enhanced 7G‑TRONIC PLUS seven-speed automatic transmission (standard with the C 250 and C 350 petrol engines). The C 220 CDI and C 250 CDI diesel variants and the basic C 180 petrol engine come with a six-speed manual transmission as standard.

The top engine variant is the V6 petrol engine in the C 350 BlueEFFICIENCY featuring the efficient BlueDIRECT method of injection. It delivers 225 kW (306 hp) and 370 Nm. Average fuel consumption is 6.8 litres per 100 km. The four-cylinder petrol engines have direct injection and are turbocharged, offering high performance and exemplary economy.

The most economical coupé model is the C 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY with manual six-speed transmission and the standard ECO start/stop function. It has an average diesel consumption of 4.4 litres per 100 km. This corresponds to 117 grams of CO2 per kilometre. The C 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY contents itself with a combined diesel consumption of just 4.9 litres per 100 km. This corresponds to CO2 emissions of 128 grams per kilometer.

Chassis: agile handling and a high level of comfort

The AGILITY CONTROL suspension, which is standard equipment, complements the dynamic engines to perfection. This is based on an amplitude-dependent damping system: when driving normally with low shock absorber impulses, the damping forces are automatically reduced for a noticeable improvement in road roar and tyre vibration characteristics – but without any compromise in handling safety. When shock absorber impulses are greater, for example when cornering at speed or performing evasive manoeuvres, the maximum damping forces are set and the car is effectively stabilised. The AGILITY CONTROL suspension is complemented by a rack-and-pinion steering system. Speed-sensitive steering with variable centring and a constant steering ratio is available as an option.

Precision suspension: three-link front axle, multi-link independent rear suspension

The front axle has a three-link construction with McPherson spring struts. The lower control arm consists of two separate elements which serve as torque and cross struts and are both made of aluminium. The third link in the front suspension is the tie rod which connects the transverse steering gear to the wheels. The reinforced anti-roll bar is connected to the spring strut which is likewise actively involved in directing the front wheels.

With multi-link independent rear suspension, the wheel is attached to five flexibly mounted, independently acting control arms which restrict five of the available spatial movements: owing to this intelligent control arm construction, each rear wheel basically retains freedom of movement in one plane only, namely during controlled compression and rebound.

In addition to AGILITY CONTROL suspension as standard, there is an optional extra on the coupé in the form of a 15 mm lower sports suspension with harder, shorter springs, tauter shock absorbers and stronger torsion bars. Speed-sensitive sports steering is also included.

Driver assistance systems provide warnings and intervene

With seven airbags as standard, belt tensioners and belt-force limiters for all seats, the C-Class Coupé has extensive safety features. The airbags, which can deploy in milliseconds in the event of an accident, include front airbags and sidebags for the driver and front passenger, a kneebag on the driver’s side, and headbags. The side protection system – comprising headbag and thoraxbag – optimises the level of protection afforded to individual parts of the body. To protect pedestrians, the coupé has an active bonnet made of aluminium.

With a number of driving assistance systems ranging from ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection to DISTRONIC PLUS proximity control, the coupé provides a comprehensive level of driver support and protection. The assistance systems are based on the latest radar, camera and sensor technology, and cover frequent accident causes such as driving too closely, fatigue and darkness.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe Official Premiere

2012 Mercedes-Benz C250 Coupe and C350 Coupe official photos, details and technical specifications

The new MY2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe will debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 1 and make its way to U.S. showrooms in September. The 302-hp C350 and 201-hp C250 include the progressive technology featured on the upcoming MY2012 C-Class sedan, but packaged in a coupe design that combines pure driving fun with exemplary efficiency.

“By extending the C-Class portfolio, we are consciously targeting new customers,” says Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Head of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz Cars. “The new model is youthful, stylish and expressive. What we are offering is an exceptionally sporty way to enter the world of the Mercedes-Benz coupe.”

Dramatic design with classic coupe proportions

From the side, the new coupe captivates the onlooker with its compact proportions, low silhouette (1.5 inches flatter than the sedan) with powerful shoulders and a narrow C-pillar in a classic three-box design. Typical coupe features include the short front overhang, long hood, steeply raked windshield and long, sloping roof. The greenhouse extends far beyond the rear axle to an aggressive short rear end.

While the wedge-shaped, sloping beltline provides a link to the C-Class sedan, its strong upsweep into the C-pillar is an entirely distinctive element. This part of the beltline trim moves sharply upwards to meet the roofline trim and not only adds an aggressive touch to the side windows but also enhances the powerful shoulders.

Front and rear: truly a coupe, truly C-Class

At the front, the new coupe shares the same styling as the latest C-Class sedan and yet still has its own personality. The front view is dominated by the prominent radiator grille surround including the bumper. The center air intake opens upwards, forming a visual base for the radiator grille, which has the double-louvre style typical of a coupe. Two chrome louvers extend on either side of the central star, tapering off at the outer edges and creating an aggressive, arrow-shaped horizontal sweep which gives the front end a pronounced V-shape.

This continues into the side sections which extend from beneath the headlamps and blend into the feature lines along the vehicle’s length, thereby linking the front end with the sides. The side air intakes in the bumper featuring integrated horizontal daytime running lamps are positioned low, giving the coupe a road-hugging appearance. The shape of the clear-lens headlamps creates a dramatic impression, and acts together with the hood, radiator grille and bumper trim to reinforce the pronounced front section.

From the rear, the new C-Class Coupe looks athletically compact. The appearance of length is reduced by the flowing roof beyond the rear axle, steeply raked rear window and fluid C-pillars. A wide groove at the top of the trunk lid, which is based on the side panel, emphasizes the rear’s compactness. Positioning the tail lights as far apart as possible emphasizes width. This particular impression of depth is achieved by a centrally located LED indicator, which appears to float in front of the red upper and lower lights with their more deeply set LEDs. Continuous, horizontal light-catching contours in the bumper further accentuate the broad, deep-set effect. A diffuser towards the bottom of the rear bumper between the tailpipe trim makes the rear end look lighter and gives the vehicle a distinctively sporty and dramatic quality.

Highest quality with exclusive color accents

The instrument panel features three tube rings with a metallic finish, the new three-spoke steering wheel features a flat bottom and comes standard with shift paddles. The surfaces of the controls are finely detailed and metallic. The stepped top of the dashboard also accommodates the standard 5.8-inch central display and continues onto the front passenger side as a discreet light-catching contour. The central, trapezoidal air vents and the round vents on the outside are highlighted in detail by metallic trim. The control panel of the new center stack has silver-colored keys, while the combination of matte keys, high-gloss areas and a new controller knob design underline the high quality of the interior.

A large section of trim highlights the dashboard, extending from the center air vents across the front passenger side to the outer air vent, emphasizing the interior’s generous proportions. Aluminum trim is standard on the C250 Coupe, while the C350 Coupe features rich Burl Walnut. Unique Ash Olive Matte Wood Trim is optionally available.

The C-Class Coupe is a fully fledged four-seater featuring four sporty, comfortable seats with integrated headrests. If desired, the backrests in the rear can be folded to extend the storage area.

Enhanced telematics with more ease of operation and attractive good looks

The C-Class Coupe features the new telematics generation. Major new features include greater operating convenience, larger displays, phone book transfer, wireless Bluetooth audio streaming and a USB interface now located in the center armrest.

Integrated services include SIRIUS weather information and a special destination search via Google, as well as the option of downloading a route that has been previously configured on a PC using Google Maps and sent to the car. The optional COMAND navigation system also has a new 3D display with city views.

Driving routes covered can now be recorded and recalled later, specific personal destinations can be saved or imported via an SD card and four alternative routes can be displayed on the navigation map including an especially economical route.

Plenty of performance, low fuel consumption

There is a choice of two new direct-injection gasoline engines to power the C-Class Coupe and both models are equipped with a more fuel efficient 7-speed automatic transmission.

The V6 gasoline engine in the C350 features the efficient BlueDIRECT injection and delivers 302 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. Average combined fuel consumption is 22 mpg (estimated). The four-cylinder gasoline engine in the C250 also features direct injection and is turbocharged, offering high performance and exemplary economy.

Chassis: agile handling and a high level of comfort

The standard AGILITY CONTROL suspension complements the dynamic engines to perfection. This is based on an amplitude-dependent damping system: when driving normally with low shock absorber impulses, the damping forces are automatically reduced for a noticeable improvement in road noise and tire vibration – but without any compromise in handling safety. When shock absorber impulses increase, for example when cornering at speed or performing evasive maneuvers, the maximum damping forces are set and the car is effectively stabilized. The AGILITY CONTROL suspension is complemented by a rack-and-pinion steering system.

Precision suspension: three-link front axle, multi-link independent rear suspension

The front axle has a three-link construction with McPherson spring struts. The lower control arm consists of two separate elements which serve as torque and cross struts and are both made of aluminum. The third link in the front suspension is the tie rod which connects the transverse steering gear to the wheels. The reinforced anti-roll bar is connected to the spring strut which is likewise actively involved in directing the front wheels.

With multi-link independent rear suspension, the wheel is attached to five flexibly mounted, independently acting control arms which restrict five of the available spatial movements: thanks to this intelligent control arm construction each rear wheel basically retains freedom of movement in one plane only, namely during controlled compression and rebound.

Driver assistance systems provide warnings and intervene

With nine airbags as standard, belt tensioners and belt-force limiters for all seats, the C-Class Coupe has extensive safety features. The airbags, which can deploy in milliseconds in the event of an accident, include front, side and pelvic airbags for the driver and front passenger, a kneebag on the driver’s side, and headbags. The side protection system – comprising headbag and thoraxbag – optimizes the level of protection afforded to individual parts of the body.

With a number of driving assistance systems ranging from standard ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection to optional Lane Keeping Assist, the coupe provides a comprehensive level of driver support and protection. The assistance systems are based on the latest radar, camera and sensor technology, and cover frequent accident causes such as distraction, fatigue and darkness.

Assistance systems at a glance:

  • Anti-lock braking system ABS
  • Adaptive Highbeam Assist
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Blind Spot Assist
  • ATTENTION ASSIST
  • Electronic Stability Program ESP®
  • Bi-Xenon headlights with active curve illumination

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe Debut

More photos of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe make their way onto the web

Earlier this week we brought you the first official photos of the 2012 Mercedes C-Class Coupe, but they were fairly limited in scope.  Today, we’ve got an even more revealing look at the model, with the new C-Class Coupe revealed from a variety of different angles.

As already noted, the 2012 C-Class Coupe is built on the standard C-Class platform, with the exception of a roof line that’s lowered from its sedan counterpart.  Under the hood, the international market will receive two 1.8-liter four-cylinder turbo power plants outputting 115 kW / 156 hp in the C180 and 150 kW / 204 hp in the C250 along with a new 225 kW / 306 hp C350.  From the diesel lineup, look for the 2.1-liter turbo diesel to arrive in both the C220 CDI (125 kW / 170 hp) and the C250 CDI (150 kW / 204 hp).  Start-stop technology will be standard equipment, and the seven-speed automatic transmission with 7G-Tronic Plus will be included in the C250 and C350 models.

We’ll bring you more details of the 2012 Mercedes C-Class Coupe when Mercedes officially premiers the model.  In the meantime, check out the gallery below for the complete 2012 C-Class Coupe gallery.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe Official Photos

Two standard versions of the C-Class Coupe are planned for sale in North America including the C250 CGI and C350 CGI

The first official photos of the long awaited 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe have made their way online, roughly a month prior to its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

Sadly, those of us in the U.S. will have to wait until September to purchase the new Mercedes Coupe, which will enter into direct competition with the BMW 3-Series and the Audi A5 when it hits the market. Sources at Mercedes-Benz have suggested that pricing of the new C-Class will closely resemble prices seen on similarly powered C-Class Sedan’s.

Based on the same mechanical package as that of the C-class sedan, with which it shares its 113-inch wheelbase, the new C-class coupe retains the same basic styling cues as its four-door big brother, however the coupe offers a more sporty two-door layout and a 1.6″ lower roofline. To finish the coupe off, Mercedes outfitted the C-Class Coupe with B-pillars, a feature not seen on the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe.

Two standard versions of the C-Class Coupe are planned for sale in North America including the entry-level C250 CGI with a 201-hp turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and the C350 CGI with a 302-hp naturally aspirated V6 engine – a model that should boast a 0-to-62-mph acceleration in 6.0 seconds.  The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG coupe, scheduled to debut at the New York Auto Show in April, will join the other coupe models at its launch. The exact details are still scarce, but the sources at AutoWeek suggest that the C63 AMG coupe is in line to receive a new 422-hp naturally aspirated version of AMG’s new 5.5-liter V8 featuring cylinder shutdown and automatic stop/start.  By contrast, the facelifted C63 AMG sedan continues with AMG’s older 457-hp naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8.

We’ll keep you updated with new details of the 2012 C-Class Coupe; in the meantime, check out the gallery for more photos.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Unveiled in Detroit – European Pricing Announced

Prices start with the 156 hp C 180 BlueEFFICIENCY at € 32,695.25 (Saloon) and € 34,361.25 (Estate, both including 19 percent VAT)

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, making its world premier at the North American International Auto Show this week has a striking and dynamic exterior design, a high-grade interior, significantly lower fuel consumption, additional driving assistance systems and a new generation of telematics characterise the comprehensively facelifted C-Class.  The new models will be in the European dealerships from March 2011. Prices start with the 115 kW (156 hp) C 180 BlueEFFICIENCY at € 32,695.25 (Saloon) and € 34,361.25 (Estate, both including 19 percent VAT).

A reduction of up to 31 percent has been achieved in fuel consumption. All the rear-wheel drive C-Class models are equipped with the ECO start/stop function as standard. All the engine variants are now classed as BlueEFFICIENCY units, showing that they are particularly efficient and environmentally compatible in their use of fuel. In future all automatic versions with the exception of the C 300 CDI 4MATIC will feature the further-developed 7G-TRONIC PLUS seven-speed automatic transmission (introduction in the C 250 CDI 4MATIC in June 2011).

With a total of ten new driving assistance systems ranging from ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection to DISTRONIC PLUS proximity control, the C-Class reaches a new level in safety. The assistance systems are based on the latest radar, camera and sensor technology, and are grouped into two packages: the Lane Tracking package (€ 892.50) consisting of Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Assist as the systems that give a warning in hazardous situations. The Driving Assistance package PLUS (€ 2320.50) with DISTRONIC PLUS, BAS PLUS, PRE-SAFE® Brake, Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist also has assistance systems that actively intervene following a warning.

In addition to the standard appointments – which now include a leather steering wheel – the two design and equipment lines ELEGANCE and AVANTGARDE are the basis for the individualisation programme of the C-Class. The two lines are now even more readily distinguishable from each other. This has been partly achieved by new trim in matt brown ash wood or dark burr walnut (ELEGANCE), and brushed aluminium or high-gloss black ash wood (AVANTGARDE). Standard features in the ELEGANCE line include luxury head retraints whose side bolsters can be adjusted as required. There are also new optional extras such as front seat climatisation (€ 1261.40) and the Stowage package (€ 95.20). The latter includes a spectacles compartment, a stowage box under the front seats, a double cupholder and a parcel net in the rear footwell.

The new C-Class also sees the debut of a new telematics generation which will also be gradually introduced in other model series. Major new features include greater operating convenience, larger displays, telephone directory transfer, display of SMS messages, wireless music reproduction via Bluetooth and a USB interface now accommodated in the centre armrest.

The multimedia system COMAND Online (from € 3070.20) now provides internet access for the first time.

As a first in the C-Class, the Becker® MAP PILOT (€ 892.50) makes a low-cost navigation function, which can also be retrofitted, available for the entry-level Audio 20 CD radio. Its advantages over aftermarket solutions include integrated operation via the central controls and the Audio 20 display, a concealed location in the glove compartment and updating via an internet portal.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe First Official Photos

The first photos of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe have made their way onto the web

The first photos of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe have made their way onto the web.

The front of the new Mercedes C-Class matches that of the facelifted C-Class Sedan and Estate. Unique to the Coupe is that nearly everything is aft of the A-pillar. We prefer the pillarless design of other Mercedes-Benz Coupes and so we are slightly disappointed to see a B-pillar.

Likely to be carried over from the C-Class Sedan will be the engine options however we expect the coupe to eventually be offered as a Black Series with a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 with up to 571 PS (420 kW / 563 bhp) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque.

Thanks to Gregor and Autobilde.de for the tip.
