As a father of three kids, I’ve come to realize that there is nothing more important to my overall well-being than a good night’s sleep.  In my ongoing quest to get the perfect night’s sleep, one of the easiest changes I’ve made has been upgrading my pillow to the Sleep Number AirFit Adjustable Pillow made by Select Comfort.

Select Comfort, a company more commonly known for their Sleep Number Mattresses – a range of mattresses that adjust to fit your sleep style – recently introduced the Sleep Number AirFit Adjustable Pillow range.  Like Sleep Number mattresses, the Sleep Number Pillows promised to offer substantially more functionality than traditional pillows.  Intrigued by the proposition of an adjustable pillow, I reached out to Select Comfort and requested one of their adjustable pillows for this article, and they were gracious enough to send me the Sleep Number AirFit Adjustable Pillow with European White Goose Down.  After spending a couple of weeks with my new pillow, I can say I’m loving the new adjustability the Sleep Number AirFit Adjustable Pillow provides.

What makes the Sleep Number Airfit Adjustable European Goose Down Pillow so great is that it completely conforms to me, and because of its adjustability, you can dial it in to the perfect firmness setting.  Not too hard, not too soft, just the perfect firmness setting. The addition of the goose down clusters adds even more to the comfort of the pillow by adding extra loft and support, offering some of the benefits of a traditional down pillow without the annoying flattening typically found with down pillows as the night goes on. Best of all, they’re hypoallergenic, preventing the buildup of dust and allergy-causing impurities that plague traditional materials.

As for the magic behind the Sleep Number AirFit Adjustable European Goose Down Pillow, the adjustment works through a valve located on one of the pillow corners.   Open the valve, lay down, and throughout the night, the Airfit Adjustable pillow changes based on how you’re laying, either inflating or deflating with each roll. Another option with the Sleep Number pillow is to lay on the pillow and close the valve when the pillow is a specific firmness.  If you prefer a firm pillow, close it before you lay down.  If you want the pillow less firm, lay on the pillow with the desired compression and seal the valve when the air is out.  In my case, I actually use various settings, sealing the valve to make the pillow extra firm while reading, and then leaving it open throughout the night to adjust to my sleeping habits.

It did take a few nights to get used to the pillow, which I think is the case any time you switch to a new pillow.  But once you get used to it, it’s great not having to wake up multiple times in the night and flip my down pillows over to recover their fluffiness.  It’s really a comfortable pillow, and it’s awesome to have the ability to adjust the firmness settings based on your specific desire.  Overall, the AirFit Adjustable European Goose Down Pillow is well worth trying if you’re seeking to get the most out of each night’s sleep, offering the comfort of a down pillow with the adjustability that Sleep Number is known for.
