Mercedes’ C-Class compact executive looks set to get a whole lot curvier, if the first spy shots of the Mercedes C-Class Coupe are anything to go by. Expected to go on sale in October 2015 and debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show shortly beforehand, this disguised prototype shows the two-door’s new S-Class Coupe inspired rear-end.

The Stuttgart-based firm’s answer to BMW’s 4-Series, this coupe is the next model in the range after last year’s new C-Class saloon and estate. The Coupe is expected to be followed in 2016 by a similarly-styled cabriolet we spied previously. The engine range will be carried over, with a choice of turbocharged petrols and diesel engines and possibly the Mercedes BlueTEC hybrid powertrain.

The front end of the Coupe will be familiar to existing new C-Class owners, but the bonnet appears slightly elongated and the lights have been stretched back. From the windscreen line rearward everything changes, with a steeply raked screen giving way to a lower, sloping roofline. At the rear, although the car is in heavy camouflage, you can see the S-Class Coupe influence on the shape.

This disguised car isn’t a world away from our exclusive renderings inspired by insider info. Yet this prototype appears to have a sharp rear wing that may indicate a sportier model/powertrain. The AMG-Sport and full-fat Mercedes-AMG performance models are expected later, with the latter carrying over the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 from the C63 saloon.

A shot of the C-Class Coupe’s cabin shows the majority of the saloon’s switchgear has carried over, including the seven-inch tablet-style central infotainment screen. That lower roofline may impede on headroom slightly, but we still expect the coupe to be a proper four-seater like its rivals.
