It's been a busy day in the land of Mercedes news, with DaimlerChrysler today publishing a number of press kits outlining multiple Mercedes model lineups.  Due to the sheer number of the aforementioned press releases, I will abstain from my usual banter in an effort to publish the information as quickly as possible; hopefully you'll find it interesting and insightful.

First up we have a comprehensive look at the Mercedes S-Class 4MATIC lineup, which includes the all-new S320 CDI, S450 and S500 4MATIC models. Yes, you heard right - there will indeed be a diesel 4MATIC S-Class model, at least for the European market. The models, all of which feature Mercedes' permanent four wheel drive technology,

Mercedes Introduces Incenio Designer Wheels For The New CL-Class

Ernst Lieb Named President And CEO Of Mercedes-Benz USA

The DaimlerChrysler Board of Management has appointed Ernst Lieb (51) as the new President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA, effective September 1, 2006. Lieb succeeds Paul Halata (55) who is retiring after 33 years of service with the DaimlerChrysler organization. Lieb, currently President and CEO of DaimlerChrysler Australia/Pacific Pty. Ltd., will report to Dr. Klaus Maier, Executive Vice President Mercedes Car Group, responsible for Sales and Marketing. In his new role, Lieb will have overall responsibility for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and Maybach in the U.S. He will lead MBUSA's nearly 1,600 employees and 330 retailers throughout the U.S.

Mercedes Car Group boosts sales in August to 88,600 units

Worldwide sales of Mercedes Car Group passenger cars rose in August 2006 by 1.2 percent to 88,600 units (August 2005: 87,600). In the first eight months of the year, deliveries of Mercedes Benz, Maybach, and smart brand cars rose by seven percent to the record figure of 818,200 units (Jan.- August 2005: 765,200).

Mercedes-Benz worldwide sales were up by three percent in August to 81,700 passenger cars (August 2005: 79,200). From January through August, the number of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars delivered to customers increased by 11 percent to the all-time-high of 739,800 units (Jan.-August 2005: 667,400).

Spiralling fuel prices have also increased the demand for economical, clean cars in the USA. Mercedes-Benz is launching the new E 320 BLUETEC on October 15, timed to coincide with the introduction of low-sulphur diesel fuel in the USA. Welcome back ladies and gentlemen; I hope all of your Labor Day weekends were as fantastic as mine was.

While we were away, smart offered the first glimpse of a model we've been expecting for some time now - the new fortwo, scheduled to make its worldwide debut this autumn and hit dealerships next spring.

As you can see, smart offered a sneak peak of the 2007 fortwo model via the form of a sand sculpture, a fact that still manages to showcase a number of the new smart's revisions...

Mercedes-Benz USA Reports Highest August Sales Ever

Mercedes-Benz USA is reporting today its highest ever August sales figures, noting a 6.9% increase over last August with 20,602 new vehicles sold.  This brings MBUSA's year-to-date sales to 157,128 units, a 13.3% increase over 2005's eight month YTD total.

As has been the case for the past several months, August sales were boosted primarily by the new S-Class, a model which noted a 105.9% increase over August of 2005 with 2,427 units sold. The SLK-Class also continued its positive ways, noting sales of 834 units, a 7.5% increase over August of 2005...

SLR Conversion For W220 Mercedes S-Class By Ad Design

While going through our inbox on this first day of September, we received a tip from our good friend Vincent over at Autoblog.nl directing us a tuner by the name of Ad-Design that has attempted to convert a W220 Mercedes S-Class into an SLR-McLaren.

The result, as you see, falls slightly short of capturing the seductive essence of the SLR; it is, however, amusing to see a tuner even attempt to convert an S-Class into a $450,000 supercar...
