This Sunday, Kimi Raikkonen will try to keep his championship dreams alive against Fernando Alonso in the Brazilian Grand Prix.
To stay in the fight for the championship, Raikkonen must finish first, and Alonso, on the verge of becoming F1's youngest champion, must finish worse than third.
The odds of that happening are pretty slim. Although Raikkonen has won three of the last four races, Alonso started his outstanding year with six wins out of twelve races. Although he hasn't won a race since the German Grand Prix on July 24th, Alonso has still managed three consecutive second place finishes.
Raikkonen understands the position he's in. "Only winning matters," Raikkonen said in a recent interview. "Of course I am interested in winning, but it is not going to happen for the others to have three bad races in a row."
Regardless of the outcome, we still love Kimi. Like we've always said, it's not the score that matters, it's how hard you play the game. But we have to give Alonso the respect he deserves.
At only 24 years of age, to dominate a race season the way he has is no easy task. Regardless of whether or not he takes the championship this season, Alonso is destined to have a great career ahead of him for many years to come.
