In keeping with the morning's theme of alerting you to new Mercedes-Benz web entities debuting this week, Mercedes-Benz USA (with the help of 29HD) has released a new C63 AMG iPhone application for your portable viewing pleasure. I finally got a chance to download the application today, and after doing so, here are my initial observations after using the new app.
First, in terms of technical requirements, you obviously need an iPhone, and furthermore, you also need the latest iPhone software – version 2.1. If you haven't done so already, you'll also need to update iTunes to the latest version – 8.0.1 – in order to download and install the new iPhone software. Once that's out of the way, downloading the MBUSA's C63 AMG is as simple as opening the app store on your iPhone, doing a quick search of "Mercedes" and selecting the appropriate app from the drop-down list (which at the time of this writing were the top two choices). Hit install and you're good to go.
In terms of what the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG "app" does, it's not so much an application as opposed to an extension of MBUSA's C63 AMG web special. There's four short high-quality clips showing the C63 AMG on the track/road, there's a list of model specifications, some additional photos and sounds depicting various stages of C63 AMG operation (ignition, engine rev, etc.) But as far as user input is concerned, there is none – you can watch, listen or read.
Considering the high quality and addicting nature of the games Mercedes – especially Mercedes AMG – has put out in the past, I was expecting more from the new C63 AMG app, specifically in terms of involving the user. What it does it does well, which is provide an iPhone alternative to the C63 AMG web special, but as far as engaging iPhone users, it's likely an app that will viewed and deleted in relatively short order.
My overall verdict for the Mercedes C63 AMG iPhone app:
