As you may remember, a couple weeks back a series of spy photos emerged depicting what's being called the Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG Black Series - a super-tuned version of the SL boasting AMG's 6.3-Liter V8, widened bodywork and no doubt a host of track-oriented tuning loveliness.  One thing we missed, however, was a spy video depicting the very same model undergoing a bit of Nürburgring testing - a video which will without question make SL fans even more ripe with anticipation for the new model's arrival...

The Board of Management and the Supervisory Board of DaimlerChrysler AG today have recommended to the Extraoridnary Shareholders' Meeting that the name of DaimlerChrysler AG be changed to Daimler AG, following the company's disposal of 80.1 percent of its stake in Chrysler Holding LLC.  While some speculated a name change to DaimlerBenz AG could be in order, DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche believes a clear distinction should be made between the corporate brand Daimler and the Group's various product brands...

The worldwide September sales figures for the Mercedes Car Group are in, and yes ladies and gentlemen, they are good.  Last month, sales of the Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and smart brands rose an impressive 7.4 percent to 124,600 new units, bringing the Mercedes Car Group's worldwide year-to-date sales up to 942,300 units - a 0.9 percent increase over 2006's nine-month ytd total.

Individually, the Mercedes-Benz brand continued in its positive ways, with sales of the luxury brand jumping 7.1 percent to 114,100 new units.  This figure brings Mercedes' ytd total up to 872,700 units, 3.1 percent higher than last year's nine-month ytd total.  The new smart fortwo has also continued to benefit from a positive response from customers, with sales of the single model amounting to 10,500 units - a 93 percent increase over September 2006's fortwo sales and a 11.2 percent increase over last September's cumulative smart sales...

Mercedes-Benz USA reported yesterday that sales of the luxury brand have continued their positive ways, jumping an impressive 13 percent to the record number of 22,459 new units.  This figure bring MBUSA's year-to-date sales total to 180,265 new units, a 1.8 percent increase over 2006's nine-month ytd total.

As for what models helped contribute to the sales growth, the 2008 C-Class has noted a highly-successful launch, with sales of the new models jumping 42.8 percent to 6,052 units sold (compared to 4,238 units in September 2006).  The CL-Class again noted the month's biggest percentage gain, with sales of the flagship coupe jumping 575.6 percent to 277 units sold (compared to 41 in September 2006).  And rounding off the "top gainers" list, the G-Class, GL-Class, CLK-Class and E-Class all achieved markedly positive numbers for the month of September, with sales of each jumping 107.3 percent, 31.2 percent, 29.5 percent and 21.4 percent, respectively...
