Kleemann's Take On The Mercedes SLK55 AMG:  The GTK Concept
Posted October 30, 2007 At 12:15 PM CST

The Kleemann GTK Concept, based on the Mercedes SLK55 AMG

If the previously-detailed Mercedes SLR 722 GT was a little too track-oriented for your tastes, the Danish tuning wunderkinds of Kleemann may have a concept better suited at appeasing your deep-seeded inner cravings for both phenomenal power and on-road approval.

Titled the GTK concept, the new model is based on the Mercedes SLK55 AMG; and it packs a euphoria-inducing normally aspirated SLK 55 AMG V8 engine fitted with a complete KLEEMANN Kompressor system kit.  The result is relatively compact concept delivering 540 HP and 700 Nm or 516-lb/ft of torque, enough to catapult the GTK from 0-62 mph in 3.7 seconds and achieve an electronically-limited top speed of 186 mph.  Power is transferred via a seven-speed automatic gearbox, while a Kleemann limited slip differential, high performance braking system, ultra low profile tires on 20-inch alloy rims, and redesigned styling bearing virtually no resemblance to a traditional SLK all complete the package...

Mercedes Is The First To Bring A Diesel Model Back To California
Posted October 16, 2007 At 9:15 AM CST

Tom Cackette, executive director for the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the E320 Bluetec

For a better part of the last decade, California and its stringent emissions requirements have prevented automakers from introducing new diesel models.  The new E320 BLUETEC, a model named the "2007 World Green Car," effectively changes all that.

Available immediately, the E320 BLUETEC is being offered in limited numbers to California residents through a special two-year/24,000 mile lease, with pricing comparable to that of its gas-powered E350 counterpart.  This marks the first step of Mercedes-Benz USA's plans to offer consumers a diesel alternative in all fifty states, with the M-, GL- and R-Class all set to enter a fifty-state market late next year.

Spy photo of the rumored Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG Black Series

Yesterday we told you about a spy video showcased on Inside Line which depicts a model which many are calling the SL63 AMG Black Series.   Today, our friend Jakpro1 over at MBWorld worked a bit of recording studio magic on the sound from the video, analyzing the SL's engine tone in comparison to a E63 AMG and concluding there's a marked difference between the two.  Listening to the audio, turbo whine is notably present during the SL's run, indicating either a new AMG turbo is currently undergoing testing stages or the model is a 65 variant - not the rumored 63...
