ASMA-Design Unveils New CLS Shark

ASMA Design Silver Mercedes-Benz CLS Side

Our good friend Vincent over at Autoblog.nl sent us a tip about a new tuner CLS today.  The lovely vehicle pictured above is the product of ASMA-Design, a Mercedes-Benz tuner that has taken a standard CLS and turned it into what they call, the "ASMA CLS Shark."

As you can see from the pictures, the ASMA Shark features several exterior enhancements, including an aftermarket grille, front spoiler, and rear and side aprons, as well as a redesigned exhaust system. But, as any true tuner fanatic knows, your ride ain't complete if it ain't got dubs. That's why ASMA added 20 inch multi-piece rims, constructed out of high-grade steel, to separate you from all your stock CLS brethren...

Kimi Raikkonen Wins Suzuka Grand Prix

The race weekend started dismally for the McLaren-Mercedes F1 Team.  After being plagued by poor weather in the qualifying rounds at Suzuka, followed by a blown piston rod for their star driver Kimi Raikkonen, Mercedes' boss Norbert Haug even went as far as apologizing to his team.

But that was yesterday, and as any race fan knows, it's only the race that counts. In what will be remembered as one of the most exciting races of the seasons, Kimi Raikkonen, starting from the 17th position on the grid, dominated the Japanes Grand Prix and captured his seventh win of the season...

Mercedes To Launch Audio Book Downloads

By now, I'm sure you've all heard of the Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape.  If not, it's a compilation of fifteen different songs Mercedes makes available for free downoad every two months. According to Mercedes, the Mixed Tape has received a tremendous amount of attention, attracting over one million visitors and over twelve million downloads.

Now, in a follow up to the Mixed Tape's success, Mercedes has announced their latest forray into the field of digital entertainment - free audio book downloads. Starting in December, Mercedes will offer users the ability to download short stories, set to music, in a similar format to their current Mixed Tape. The service, entitled "Mercedes-Benz Text Tracks," will offer stories from a wide variety of literary genres, including poems, murder mysteries, and love stories; and, much like the current Mixed Tape, the stories will be taken from both amateur and professional authors around the world...

Mercedes-Benz S-Class SLR McLaren E-Class SLK SL-Class

Yes ladies and gentlemen, it's that time of the month again.  You know, the "sales figures" time.  For the month of September, sales of the Mercedes Car Group's Mercedes-Benz and Smart Car brands rose significantly to 117,900 units, compared to 112,300 units last year.  The increased sales bring the Mercedes Group's year-to-date total to 878,600 units, an increase of 6,000 units over 2004.

Individually, the Mercedes-Benz brand noted another strong September sales record, increasing worldwide sales 8% to 106,500 units. But, as has been the case over the past months, the Mercedes-Benz brand still trails 2004 year-to-date sales by 400 units.

The SLR Vs. The World

SLR McLaren Mercedes-Benz Front Side Picture

Our friends over at Autoblog posted an interesting story about the SLR today.   We've never noticed it before, but it seems you can compare the SLR to a wide assortment of other cars on the market.  It's funny, I've been deliberating between the SLR and the Kia Rio for quite some time. Now that I can compare the two models side by side, it looks like I'll finally be able to make my decision.

If you're like me and can't decide between the SLR and the ever-enticing Kia, or just want to see how your ride stacks up, take a look at it...

Mercedes ML-Class Review Roundup
Posted on October 7, 2005 at 9:39 AM CST

Mercedes-Benz ML-500 Front Grill

As I'm sure you all know by now, Mercedes has redesigned the ML-Class for the 2006 model year, replacing the aging SUV that has brought Mercedes' quality into question with a vehicle re-engineered from the ground up.

USA Today recently took a look at Mercedes' latest addition to the SUV segment.  Unfortunately the review, like many others, is based solely on the vehicle's appearance, not how the vehicle performs.  So rather than settling for a half-hearted review like so many publications give, I decided to find reviews that actually involved driving the vehicle, and am now bringing them to you....

Mercedes Ships Over 200,000 A-Class Models
Posted on October 6, 2005 at 5:39 PM CST

Mercedes-Benz A-Class

It's been one year since Mercedes officially launched the second-generation A-Class, and already more than 200,000 have been shipped to customers around the world (but not the United States).  Sales of the A-Class are particularly strong in Germany, where 105,000 units of the compact Mercedes were sold.

Not surprisingly, the most popular engine choice among consumers of the A-Class was the diesel CDI model, which more than a third of consumers chose. Other popular options included the leather wrapped steering wheel, continuously variable automatic transmission, and the light and vision package...

Armored G-Wagon Used In Afghanistan

Black Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon

While browsing the Ottawa Sun Times today, I stumbled upon an interesting article about the G-Wagon.  After losing several soldiers to suicide bombers and anti-tank mines, outraged Canucks demanded that the military provide Canadian soldiers with better vehicles than the 20 year old Iltis jeeps they were using at the time.  In response to the public, the federal government purchased 802 armored Mercedes Gelaendewagens at the cost of $126 million, and later purchased another 357 G-Wagons for $81 million, 20 of which were armored...

Mercedes-Benz Silver 2007 S-Class Overhead Interior View

It's been a slow day for Mercedes news, so we figured what better way to pass the time than to post some interior photographs of the upcoming 2007 S-Class.  I must say, Mercedes has once again demonstrated their impeccable attention to detail in the latest incarnation of the S-Class line.  It looks like I better start saving my pennies now.

You can check out all the photos after the jump.

Lindsay Lohan Crashes Her Mercedes
Posted on October 4, 2005 at 11:59 PM CST

Lindsay Lohan At Cartier EventIt's been a while since we've had the pleasure of bringing you entertainment news, but today just happens to be our lucky day. Word on the street is that Lindsay Lohan, star of such Hollywood gems as "Herbie Fully Loaded" and "Freaky Friday," has decided to stop her self-imposed ban on food and start eating again...oh wait, wrong story - let me try again.

Today it was reported that Lindsay Lohan was involved in an accident in West Hollywood, California. The accident occurred when Lohan, apparently in an effort to avoid the paparazzi, crashed her black Mercedes SL 65 into a Chevy Astro van, which then collided with another parked van. Lohan, her passenger, and the driver of the van were all taken to an undisclosed hospital, and various sources indicate that all three suffered only minor injuries...

Mercedes Mixed Tape 09

A few weeks ago, we brought you a story about the Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape.  Basically, every 10 weeks Mercedes releases a new mixed tape which contains 15 different songs from various artists, all available for free download.  Like I said last time, if you have an iPod or any other digital music player, swing by and check it out when you get a minute.

B-Class And A-Class Spotted In America
Posted on October 04, 2005 at 10:27 AM CST

Black Mercedes-Benz B-Class Side Picture

Yesterday, we received an email from one of our readers saying he had spotted both the B-Class and A-Class models in America.  The cars were being unloaded from a Martinair cargo plane into an enclosed car carrier at the Denver International Airport, along with several other Mercedes models, including an ML-Class, a CLS, and a 2007 S-Class.

Does this mean Mercedes if finally bringing the mini-Mercedes to America?  Unfortunately, I doubt it, at least not yet.  Judging from the fact there were so many different Mercedes models in addition to the B-Class and A-Class, I would have to guess the cars might have been taken to a photo shoot or some type of promotional event.  My other guess is the vehicles may be used for either road or crash testing, but it's difficult to say...

ML-Class Earns Five Stars In Crash Test Rating

Mercedes-Benz ML-Class Crash Test Side Picture

If you're thinking about buying a new ML-Class but are worried about safety, we have some good news for you.  In a recent crash test performed by the National Highway Traffic Administration, the 2006 ML-Class earned five stars (out of a possible five stars), becoming one of the few SUV's to do so.

To rate the ML, the National Highway Traffic Administration subjected the donor vehicles to two tests.  The first was the NCAP test (New Car Assessment Program), in which the ML collided with a rigid wall at 36 mph.  The second test was the SINCAP test (Side Impact New Car Assessment Program), in which a deformable barrier collided with the ML at 38.5 mph...

Mercedes' Sales Figures Hit Record High... Again

Mercedes-Benz Silver SL 65 AMG Side Picture

For the fourth consecutive month, Mercedes-Benz USA has once again reported record sales figures, reporting its highest ever September on record, with vehicle sales totalling 17,552.  Due to our unscientific research, we have to attribute the increase in sales to the prodigious amount of publicity eMercedesBenz has generated for the Mercedes-Benz brand, even surmising that the numbers reflected lie solely on our shoulders.

It is, of course, with all humility that we bring you this fact; we receive no compensatory or even verbal rewards for our hard work and dedication to Mercedes-Benz...

Lorinser Silver Extended E-Class Limo Front Side Picture

I personally have never been in the market for an E-Class limo, but for all you Presidents, politicians, oil moguls, etc. that may be, Lorinser has some good news - they just debuted their new extended E-Class limo.  To maximize comfort and seating, Lorinser added 1046 millimeters (over a meter) to the basic E-Class model.  They then replaced the standard single seats with a full width bench seat, added an additional center row of seating, and threw in an additional independent air conditioning system for the rear passenger compartment...
