Mercedes has published a press release today showcasing their construction vehicle lineup.
Although I personally am not in the market for a construction vehicle right now (I must admit there's been a few times in Chicago's rush hour traffic that I wish I was driving one, so that I could plow throught the sea of stationary vehicles in front of me), it's a great resource for anyone intersted in Mercedes' latest big truck offerings.
You can check out the full press release below, along with a ton of photos showcasing Mercedes' entire construction vehicle lineup.
Mercedes-Benz Range Of Construction Vehicles
Mercedes-Benz Actros chassis also suitable for special-purpose applications: BlueTec diesel technology to ensure compliance with Euro 4 and Euro 5. The Mercedes-Benz Actros is the ideal solution for heavy-duty applications. It is available as a construction- site vehicle in the 18 to 41-tonne weight categories. Tailored chassis units for special-purpose applications – such as the concrete pump shown here – can be ordered. From the first half of 2006, the Actros trucks for the construction industry will be available with BlueTec diesel technology in order to ensure compliance with the Euro 4 and Euro 5 emission standards. |

Mercedes-Benz Actros SLT 4160 heavy-duty tractor unit: The Mercedes-Benz Actros SLT 4160 8x4/4 is a four-axle, special-purpose heavy-duty tractor unit for transporting extremely large and heavy loads up to a GCW of 250 tonnes. Among the most striking design modifications are the additional fourth axle – a leading axle which can be steered, positioned directly in front of the two driven axles – and the powerful cooling system. The Actros heavy-duty tractor unit features the OM 502 LA V8 engine and is available with a power output of 395 kW (537 hp) or 448 kW (610 hp). |

Mercedes-Benz Axor 1833 AK all-wheel-drive tipper with Palfinger crane: The new Axor construction variants are designed for the particularly payload-sensitive construction sector with a high proportion of on-road use. Compared to the Actros, which is designed for traction, overload capability and difficult terrain, the Axor has a payload advantage of up to 450 kg as a tipper. Configured as an all-wheel-drive version and equipped with a crane from Palfinger the 1833 AK makes an excellent and highly versatile all-rounder. |

New lightweight Axor tippers from Mercedes-Benz: 6x4 and 8x4 drive configurations - optimised payload. As cost pressure continues to rise, payload is becoming an increasingly important factor, not least for haulage companies involved in the construction sector. The new Axor trucks for the construction industry provide up to 450 kg more payload than a comparable truck designed primarily with traction (all-wheel drive), overload capability and rough terrain in mind. |

Mercedes-Benz Atego with BlueTec 4: The Atego with its emissions-reducing Euro-4-compliant BlueTec engine - the SCR technology employed with BlueTec 4 already reduces particulate and other emissions significantly – is a fitting response to the present debate concerning fine particulate emissions. By virtue of in-engine improvements, BlueTec engines also consume between three and five percent less diesel fuel. |

The Mercedes-Benz Actros family for construction-site applications: The Mercedes-Benz Actros is available as a construction-site vehicle in the weight category from 18 to 41 tonnes (permitted gross vehicle weight). The tippers, all-wheel-drive tippers, concrete mixers, semitrailer tractors and special-purpose chassis units come with a choice of two, three or four axles and seven power outputs spanning the range from 235 kW (320 hp) to 395 kW (537 hp). An eighth power category has been added following the introduction of the BlueTec emission control system. In addition, both the output and the torque have been increased in some cases. |

BlueTec versions of Atego, Axor and Actros construction-site vehicles: As October 1, 2006 – the date on which the Euro 4 emission standard comes into force for all newly registered commercial vehicles – draws closer, DaimlerChrysler is giving centre stage to the emission and fuel consumption-optimised BlueTec versions of its Atego, Axor and Actros construction-site vehicles. During the course of the coming year, Mercedes-Benz will successively extend the BlueTec line-up in all of its truck series and will thus be able to offer a full range of long-distance haulage, short-radius distribution, construction-site and special-purpose vehicles. The base technology at the heart of the four and six-cylinder engines that drive the Atego and Axor is absolutely identical to that used in the V6 powerplants which have been performing highly impressively in 5,000 Actros 1844 to 2548 long-distance haulage trucks for over 6 months. |

Everything from a single source – with three van and three truck series for the construction sector (both on-site construction and materials supply), Daimler Chrysler is the manufacturer with the widest range of vehicles for this broad area of operations. The spectrum of available weight categories extends from the Mercedes-Benz Vito one-tonner with a gross vehicle weight of less than 2.8 tonnes to the four-axle Actros very heavy-duty truck in the 250-tonne class.
The mainstay of the DaimlerChrysler vehicle portfolio for the construction sector is the range of trucks produced at the plants in Wörth and Aksaray – the Mercedes-Benz Atego, Axor and Actros series. From transporting construction materials on the road and heavy-duty site operations with all-wheel-drive dump trucks, and right up to tractor units for very heavy-duty combinations with weights of up to 250 tonnes or large-scale pumped concrete assignments, there is practically no job in the construction sector that cannot be cost-effectively tackled with the trucks and semitrailer tractors from the DaimlerChrysler plant in Wörth.
The vehicle range is a seamless portfolio extending from truck chassis and tippers to semitrailer tractors and special-purpose chassis. From the on-road 4x2, the two-axle truck with a driven rear axle and the off-road 8x8 right up to the overloadable four-axle dump truck with eight driven wheels, every conceivable and practical drive configuration is available from the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth – and in every appropriate wheelbase.
These comprehensive technical solutions for all construction-related needs are supplemented with tailor-made service packages ranging from vehicle procurement – for example via Mercedes-Benz CharterWay and the DaimlerChrysler Bank – to the resale of used vehicles via TruckStore and TGC.
