In an article published today, Autospies is reporting that a redesigned SL model may be closer than we think. According to the story, the new SL will feature a new nose to match the current SLK and SLR models, and will also be availabe in a new "350" model, which will feature a 270 horsepower V6 as well as Mercedes' new 7 speed transmission. The story, which draws its inspiration from the fact that Mercedes recently discounted the SL by as much as $8,750 in the UK, says that we could see the debut of the new SL as early as the 2006 Geneva Motor Show.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think the likelihood of seeing a new SL next year is pretty slim. With the recently released S-Class, as well as the upcoming release of the redesigned CL, I don't know if squeezing a new SL in between the two would be the best move on Mercedes' part. Either way, we'll make sure to keep you posted if we hear anything new.
