More GLK Speculation: Automobile Magazine Reports On Mercedes' Upcoming Small SUV
Posted November 17th, 2006 At 7:00 AM CST

Rendering of what a potential 2008 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class might look like

Although it's not rumored to be hitting dealerships until sometime in late 2008, the fine gentlemen over at Automobile magazine recently took a moment to speculate about the GLK, offering a small glimpse as to what they believe we can expect to see from Mercedes' upcoming small SUV.

According to the publication, the GLK, which will be based on a 2008 C-Class 4MATIC chassis, is going to feature a number of changes over the standard's C's underpinnings, including new steering rack, bigger brakes and a modified independent suspension that permits more wheel travel.  A handling package, which includes adaptive dampers, quicker steering and fatter anti-roll bars will also be available, while curb weight is said to fall somewhere between 3,400 and 3,700 pounds.

As for what's powering Mercedes' newest SUV, Automobile believes the U.S. is likely to receive three variants:  the GLK280 V-6 4Matic, outputting 228 hp; the GLK350 V-6 4Matic, outputting 268 hp; and the GLK320 CDI V-6 4Matic, outputting 221 hp; all of which will be fitted with Mercedes' 7G-TRONIC transmission.  Of course, an AMG-tuned 63 variant will likely follow as well.

We will of course keep you posted as any new Mercedes GLK speculation or rumors arise; in the meantime, head over to Automobile for their full article.
