Mercedes-Benz M-Class by A_R_T

Hot on the heels of the lovely Carlsson S-Class comes more tuner news.  Our friend Vincent over at Autoblog.nl pointed us to a few new offerings by A_R_T, set to debut at the Essen Motor Show at the end of the month.

A_R_T has two new tuning programs in the works, one for the newly redesigned M-Class, and one for the new 2007 S-Class.

Like all good tuners do, A_R_T began by designing a new aerodynamic body kit for the two vehicles, including a new front apron, rear apron and side skirts. To further enhance the look of the vehicles, buyers will have the option of either 18", 19", or 20" A_R_T wheels...

S-Class And Mercedes Honored At Bild am Sonntag Awards
Posted on November 10, 2005 at 10:15 AM CST

Golden Steering Wheel AwardIn a recent competition held by the German newspaper "Bild am Sonntag," the 2007 Mercedes-Benz S-Class was honored for the second time this week, earning the prestigious "Golden Steering Wheel" in the "Luxury Class" category of their annual awards.

The Bild am Sonntag awards, which are regarded by many as the German car of the year awards, date back to 1976.   Winners are chosen by a panel of German celebrities and industry analysists who test the vehicles, and then award points based on their selections.

In addition to the S-Class, the new Mercedes M-Class and B-Class both performed admirably as well, taking the runner-up spots in the "Off-Roaders" and "Mini-MPV" categories...

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Wagon

While browsing the Mercedes-Benz website today, I stumbled upon a new item I haven't noticed before.

Mercedes is offering visitors to their site a free customizable 2006 calendar, available for download.  There is a catch, however; you must be on a PC - the calendar won't work on a Mac.

According to MB's site, the calendar features Mercedes imagery paired with Germany's most beautiful regions, and allows users to save personal dates and notes for 2006 directly to your desktop...

Carlsson Set To Debut CK50 S-Class
Posted on November 9, 2005 at 11:00 AM CST

Mercedes-Benz S-Class W221 by Carlsson

I have a confession to make.  I'm in love... with Carlsson.  Of all the Mercedes tuners adding to and often detracting from the beauty of Mercedes, few can compare to the elegance yet "sportiness" of Carlsson. The Carlsson CK55 CLS is, in my opinion, simply gorgeous.

That's why when they sent me photos of their new S-Class, I was pretty excited.  Set to debut at the Essen Motor Show at the end of the month, the new Carlsson S-Class, dubbed the CK50, is the finest example of a tuner S-Class to date.

To begin with, as all good tuners do, Carlsson modified the engine. By increasing the output of the engine from 388 horsepower to 435 horsepower, Carlsson created a luxury sedan that can accelerate from 0-60 in just 5.1 seconds. Add to that a top speed of 182 mph, and you have a Mercedes that can rival the performance most sports cars...

Mercedes Introduces Armored S-Class

Mercedes-Benz Armored S-Class

What do the President, Columbia's largest exporter of cocaine, and the Pope all have in common?  They all need protection.

Sure, they could all drive around in M1 Abrams tanks, but protection isn't enough.  Prominent officials (and drug dealers) want more than just protection, they want protection and luxury.

Thankfully, Mercedes has heard their pleas, announcing today they will be offering an armored version of the S600, dubbed the S600 Guard, beginning in 2006...

Udo Hasse polishes his Wooden Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Made Out Of Pine

Over the weekend I found this story over at Autoblog.it, and I completely forgot to bring it to you yesterday.

But being a Mercedes site, we had to give love to Udo Haase, a master craftsman who painstakingly recreated Mercedes' legendary 300 SL Gullwing out of pine. The endeavor took Haase roughly 2,500 hours to complete, and was constructed without any screws or nails; only glue was used to hold the pieces together.

Mercedes-Benz CLS Vs. BMW 645Ci

Mercedes-Benz CLS BMW 650ci

When it comes to German auto makers, there's no rivalry greater than that of Mercedes and BMW.  It's a delicate subject that I'm sure everyone can weigh in on, and one that I have received numerous emails about.  So to briefly answer your question, here's a quick synopsis of how I view the two companies:

Although the two auto makers compete for similar markets, they are two entirely different creatures. When I view a Mercedes, and when I drive a Mercedes, the underlying trait that I feel defines the vehicles is luxury. Mercedes are first and foremost luxury vehicles, regardless of how fast they may be, and regardless of how they're marketed.

E-Class Being Produced On Assembly Line

DaimlerChrysler reported yesterday that it has halted plans to open a $96 million Mercedes plant in Russia, after an agreement between them and the Russian government could not be reached.  According to a DaimlerChrysler spokesman, "Conditions for local assembly of Mercedes-Benz cars in Russia are not in place at the moment."

Sources close to the matter claim a disagreement between Russia's industry ministry and economy ministry is to blame. Although the industry ministry welcomed DaimlerChrysler's plans for the new plant, the economy ministry preferred to protect Russian automakers from outside competition...
