Mercedes Car Group's Worldwide Sales Down 4.7% In April (Extended Version)

DaimlerChrysler LogoIn a quick follow up to our last post, DaimlerChrysler has since published the full press release detailing worldwide sales of the Mercedes Car Group for the month of April.

I won't go into specifics, seeing as how I've already given an overview of the sales figures, but what is interesting about the press release is the fact that it gives confirmation the new CL-Class will be launching this autumn. According to DaimlerChrysler: "With the launch of the new CL-Class this autumn, Mercedes-Benz will further strengthen its position as the world’s leading supplier of premium and luxury-class coupes."

Mercedes Car Group's Worldwide Sales Down 4.7% In April

DaimlerChrysler LogoAlthough we haven't received the official press release from DaimlerChrysler, Reuters is reporting that worldwide sales of the Mercedes Car Group dropped 4.7% in April to 100,800 units.

Individually, sales of the Mercedes-Benz brand dropped 1.2% to 91,300 units, while sales of the smart car continue to remain in the toilet, falling 28.4% to 9,500 vehicles...

Updates To Mercedes-Benz's Websites

I just wanted to drop a quick note pointing my fellow Mercedes enthusiasts to a number of new features found on Mercedes' websites.

The first update, and one I should have mentioned a few days ago, is the fact that the GL 450 has now been added to MBUSA's SUV section.  Photos, tech specs, the "Build Your Own Feature"... it's all there.

MBUSA Reports Best April Sales In History

The sales figures for the month of April are rolling in, and Mercedes-Benz USA has reported yet another banner month with 21,270 new vehicles sold.  That number marks a 13.1% increase over April of 2005, and brings MBUSA's year-to-date sales up to 72,512 new vehicles, an increase of 15.9% over 2005's YTD sales.

Individually, passenger cars noted an increase in sales of 6.8% over April of 2005 with 16,466 units sold. The strongest sales came from the always impressive S-Class, which increased sales 108.2% over last April with 3,033 units sold.  An additional sales boost was provided by the recently updated Mercedes SL550, which recorded a 22.2% gain over April 2005 with 1,112 vehicles sold...

While browsing the wide assortment of vehicular oddities over at eBay this morning, I happened upon the Richard Simmons edition 1985 Mercedes G 280 you see pictured above.

Described in the listing as a "very rare and unique SUV, this is totally customized in the way that you will never see again," the G is apparently the byproduct of a drunken threesome involving a G-Wagon, an E-Class, and Barney...
