It's been three years since DaimlerChrysler began testing their fuel cell vehicles in day-to-day operations, and now, some 109,000 operating hours later, the company has achieved yet another fuel cell milestone, covering over two million kilometers with their diverse fuel cell fleet.
According to Prof. Dr. Herbert Kohler, Vice President Group Research and Advanced Engineering Vehicle and Powertrain and DaimlerChrysler Chief Environmental Officer: "Our world-wide fleet trial is running at full steam, and after two million kilometers covered, we are gaining valuable results and findings for the further development of the emission-free fuel cell powertrain..."
At the Laureus World Sports Award that took place in Barcelona over the weekend, Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of DaimlerChrysler AG, presented Spanish King Juan Carlos I with the keys to a "Côte d’Azur" Maybach Saloon. Following the presentation, King Carlos I took the opportunity to test the 612 horsepower Maybach for the first time with Zetsche as his passenger, and he also agreed to share his thoughts and experiences pertaining to the new sedan with Maybach over the next several months...
According to a recent Forbes article, DaimlerChrysler may make their final decision as to whether or not to bring the smart car to the United States within the next month.
In the brief article, Forbes quoted Klaus Maier, head of sales and marketing at Mercedes Car Group, as saying: "I expect that we will make a final decision in June."
In truck-related news, the Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle division recently made headlines, with the keys to the 200,000th production Atego being handed over to the management team from Kassel-based W. & L. Jordan GmbH.
According to Jordan: "We are proud of the fact that our company is the one to receive this milestone truck. As a leading German flooring and wood supplier, we need agile short-radius distribution trucks that offer sufficient payload, short setup times and excellent reliability. The Atego ticks all of these boxes. Plus its moderate running costs make it the most economical vehicle for our particular needs..."
Welcome back ladies and gentlemen; I hope you all had a fantastic May weekend.
To kick things off this morning, Mercedes-Benz has announced that in an apparent effort to boost their credibility with internet users, the luxury automaker will be partnering with both eBay.de (eBay's German website) as well as another eBay company, Mobile.de, to promote the recently updated Mercedes E-Class...
The Associated Press is reporting today that federal customs officials have seized a Mercedes-Benz they believe may have belonged to former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
Although the model isn't specified, the white Mercedes, now owned by Army reservist First Sgt. William Von Zehle, is equipped with loudspeakers, hidden microphones, and "a series of pipes that shoot flames out the side of the car..."
In a quick follow up to our last post, I wanted to make mention of the fact that Mercedes has updated their international website today to reflect the opening of the new museum.
At Mercedes-Benz.com, you can find a wealth of Mercedes Museum related information, including an interactive floor plan,
a look at the museum's architecture, visitor information including hours and pricing, and a new web special showing a number of the new museum's highlights...
A day before officially welcoming the public, Minister-President of the State of Baden-Württemberg Günther H. Oettinger and the Chairman of the Board of Management of DaimlerChrysler AG Dr. Dieter Zetsche held an opening ceremony for the new Mercedes-Benz World.
At the event, Zetsche shared with visitors the idea behind the company's latest venture: "Mercedes-Benz World creates a link between a fascinating museum and a state-of-the-art automotive center; it encompasses 120 years of history, from the very first motor car up to its boldest visions for the future..."
To kick things off this morning, a reader by the Eric pointed us to a story we somehow missed a couple days ago. It turns out, our friends over at Inside Line recently got their lucky hands on a brand-new Mercedes E63 AMG and have graciously published their first thoughts of Mercedes' latest beast.
While I won't go into detail about their review, I will say that the overall impression I'm left with after reading the article is a good one. More power,
better brakes, and a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds... all for approximately the same price as the outgoing E55...
If you're like me and you happened to catch last night's episode of "Lost", the lovable drama based loosely on the always-classic Gilligan's Island, you probably caught Mercedes' new ad for the GL-Class.
If you didn't catch the ad, fear not. A faithful YouTube member
has already uploaded the commercial to the web, and thanks to the magic of embedded video files, we've already added it to our site.
As you can probably tell, it's been another slow day for Mercedes-related news around these parts, so in an effort to spice things up a bit we decided our best course of action would be to post a video depicting various acts of automotive wreckage.
Who doesn't enjoy watching other people's acts of driving folly?
We got an email this morning from an infuriated reader pointing us to a smart advertisement apparently run in South Africa.
In his email, the reader ranted about the anti-American sentiment being spread across the globe by many of the world's multi-national conglomerates... how America strives to help the less fortunate and yet we're still frowned upon by so many other countries... I think you get the idea...
What could be better than a host of spy photos capturing the 2008 Mercedes C-Class being but through its paces in preparation for its world debut? The answer, of course, is a host of spy photos capturing the 2008 MercedesC63 AMG being but through its paces in preparation for its world debut, and thanks to an astute reader by the name of Platon, that's exactly what we have for you this morning.
It turns out, the boys over at Car and Driver have captured what appears to be the newest C-Class, complete with quad exhaust pipes, new wheels, and a mesh grille... all tell-tale signs this isn't your typical 2008 Mercedes C-Class...
While checking our inbox one last time before heading out for the night, we stumbled upon an email from our good friend Carlos over at Motorpasion. In his email, Carlos pointed us to some spy photos his website ran today showing the new Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren testing in Sierra Nevada, Spain...
