In boxing news, former world featherweight champion Naseem Hamed has been sentenced to 15 months in prison and a four-year license suspension today, after pleading guilty to the act of dangerous driving back in March.
During sentencing, the court heard how Naseem, who at the time was piloting his Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, attempted to impress his passenger by overtaking a Mondeo travelling in front of them. Details were then given how Naseem, now driving at speeds in excess of 90 mph, struck on oncoming Volkswagen Golf head-on before colliding with the Mondeo he was trying to overtake.
Although Naseem wasn't injured, the driver of the Golf was hospitalized, with injuries including a broken leg, broken arms, and fractures to every major bone in his body.
At sentencing, Naseem showed no emotion as the verdict was read; members of his family, however, broke down into tears as Prince Naseem was led away.
Later, Naseem told reporters that although he was disappointed with the judge's decision to suspend his license and impose jail time, he still felt confident he'd find other modes of transportation to ride over the next 15 months. Rumor has it there's a train that leaves the prison's shower station every night around 8:00.
