Before I begin this story, let me preface by saying that I have somewhat of a "boy who cried wolf" complex. I'm not a big fan of rumors, especially unfounded ones, so with most of the stories I run, I try to give as much supporting evidence as possible.
This story, however, has little basis - it's simply the word of one of our readers. Despite this fact, I still felt compelled to run the story, and I'll leave it up to you to make your own judgments.
According to the reader's email, DaimlerChrysler is currently deliberating what jobs need to be cut at MBUSA, with a formal announcement being made in the next several months. He believes the marketing department will be the first to feel the wrath of the layoffs, which, after the ridiculous R-Class marketing campaign doesn't come as much surprise. He also believes the IT, finance and HR departments may be moved to DaimlerChrysler's headquarters in Auburn Hills to reduce expenditures.
Whether or not the rumors will materialize, we'll find out soon enough. Personally, after seeing DaimlerChrysler's aggressive attempts to improve efficiency and reduce redundancies within the company, I think the rumors coming to fruition would be the next logical step; but only time will tell.
Stay tuned and we'll be sure to keep you posted if we hear anything new.
