Through the ages, it's been an epic battle - the struggle for what vehicle holds the title of the world's preeminent luxury sedan. 

Although no man or publication will ever have a final say in the matter, Car and Driver recently had their turn in two of the world's most sought-after vehicles in the segment, the Mercedes-Benz S600 and the Rolls Royce Phantom, and have offered their insight as to how the two compare to one another.

As with any review of this nature, comparing the approximately $140,000 Mercedes-Benz S600 to the approximately $330,000 Rolls Royce Phantom is going to have it drawbacks (primarily the fact you could buy two Mercedes S600's and have $50,000 left for a down payment on that new Cessna you've been lusting after), but ultimately, the review offers tremendous insight into the strengths of both vehicles.
