Mercedes has unveiled today a new navigation system for their Atego, Axor and Actros model series commercial vehicles. In total, map material is provided for 26 European countries, with a total of 15 European languages available for the voice instructions. But what makes the new navigation so unique isn't its ability to provide directions, as any navigation can perform this task, but rather its ability to take into account the specific requirements of commercial vehicles (weight restrictions, limited height and width clearances, etc.) and subsequently provide the best route taking into account these factors. To make the system work, the vehicle's operator simply enters into the navigation system a number of key details about the vehicle and load, and the navigation system handles the rest.
Further ensuring the quickest drive time, dynamic route guidance is provided by TMC (the Traffic Message Channel), which provides real time data to help the driver avoid traffic jams and other potential slow-downs.
If you're interested, the new Mercedes commercial navigation system is available directly from the factory, with operation provided by a separate control panel (pricing hasn't been given). For more info on the new navigation system, keep scrolling for photos and the official press release.
Enjoy ladies and gentlemen.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
New truck navigation system for Mercedes-Benz trucks
- A new navigation system is now available for Mercedes-Benz trucks in the Atego, Axor and Actros model series
- Dynamic route guidance considers commercial-vehicle needs (height and speed restrictions)
- System contains map material for virtually every European country
- Voice output in 15 different languages
A new truck navigation system is available ex factory with immediate effect for Mercedes-Benz trucks from the Atego, Axor and Actros model series. Map material is provided for 26 European countries and there is a choice of 15 European languages for the voice instructions. The truck navigation system takes into account the specific requirements of commercial vehicles (e.g. by providing information on weight restrictions, limited overhead and width clearances, special routes into town centres, etc.). At the same time, the truck navigation system conveniently guides drivers in unfamiliar surroundings via arrow navigation on the instrument cluster and via arrow and/or map navigation on the 6.5" monitor. Dynamic route guidance courtesy of TMC (the Traffic Message Channel) enables traffic jams and problems to be bypassed, thereby potentially saving time.
There are many factors in favour of an integrated truck navigation system: it offers quick and easy orientation, providing navigation specifically for commercial vehicles both at home and abroad. TMC dynamic navigation gives detours around traffic jams and problems, which can reduce travel times. The navigation system boosts traffic safety by displaying directions using arrow guidance on the instrument cluster. Because the fully functional system is neatly installed during production at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth, there is no need for retrofitting. Operation is exceptionally straightforward thanks to a separate control panel.
The map material (Tele Atlas) is provided on DVD for 26 European countries and is included as standard from the outset. There is a choice of 15 European languages in total for the voice instructions, which are heard through the vehicle’s speakers.
Before the start of the journey, information about the vehicle is entered that is important for navigating the scheduled trip: width, height, length, maximum permissible weight, permissible axle load, hazardous goods.
Three different routes can be calculated: the fastest, the shortest or an individual route with stops. The truck navigation system can be ordered in conjunction with the CD radio, Bluetooth CD radio or Bluetooth CD radio with a permanently installed telephone.
