| CKD Mercedes Prices Reduced 6.5%-10% In Malaysia |

If you live in Malaysia and have been considering purchasing a new completely knocked-down (CKD) Mercedes, i.e. a Mercedes assembled in Malaysia, you're in luck.
DaimlerChrysler is reporting today that thanks to the new duty structure outlined in the National Automotive Policy, Mercedes-Benz CKD vehicles will be reduced in price by 6.5%-10% starting immediately. Two models specifically mentioned in the report are the Mercedes C180K model, which has been reduced from RM255,800 to RM233,888, and the Mercedes E240K, which will now retail for RM388,000...

Focus Money is reporting today that the job cuts at DaimlerChrysler's Mercedes Car Group are moving quicker than expected, citing a company manager as the basis for the article.
According to the company manager, 7,000 of the 8,500 planned job cuts have already been fulfilled, either via layoffs or signed severance packages.
The manager then on went on to say that the cuts, which were expected to cost the company EUR 950 million, may now exceed EUR 1 billion...

Mercedes has announced today a new scholarship program for all you would-be fashion designers. Titled the Drive Your Future Design Awards LA scholarship, Mercedes will present one lucky individual with a $20,000 one-year scholarship to attend The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising this fall, as well as mentoring opportunity with award-winning designer Kevan Hall.
To help fund the scholarship, Mercedes will be auctioning off a number Fender guitars, personally decorated by a series of Hollywood celebrities including rocker Slash, supermodel Carolyn Murphy, and skater Tony Hawk. The guitars, which are currently on display at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios, will be placed up for auction this spring...

Over the weekend while browsing our tremendously over-populated inbox, a faithful reader by the name of John sent us some spy shots of a Mercedes we've never mentioned - the MLK.
The MLK is the newest Mercedes SUV in development, a compact 4x4 that's rumored to be released sometime in 2008. As evidenced from the photos, the MLK will share similar attributes of the soon-to-be released redesigned C-Class, and will likely compete with both the BMW X3 as well as the Audi Q5.
