If you live in Malaysia and have been considering purchasing a new completely knocked-down (CKD) Mercedes, i.e. a Mercedes assembled in Malaysia, you're in luck.
DaimlerChrysler is reporting today that thanks to the new duty structure outlined in the National Automotive Policy, Mercedes-Benz CKD vehicles will be reduced in price by 6.5%-10% starting immediately. Two models specifically mentioned in the report are the Mercedes C180K model, which has been reduced from RM255,800 to RM233,888, and the Mercedes E240K, which will now retail for RM388,000.
DaimlerChrysler Malaysia president and chief executive officer Datuk Frank Steinleitner said his company welcomed the new duty structure, stating: "With this cost saving, there will be significant growth in CKD production, thus bringing about economic benefit to Malaysia." He added that: "Having invested heavily in the production plant in Pekan, Pahang, DCM has demonstrated long-term commitment to Malaysia and will fully pass on the entire duty savings to its customers."
