Mercedes-Benz M-Class Being Crash Tested In Head on Collision

The latest wave of SUV crash test ratings are out, and the ML-Class has once again earned five stars in both front impact and side impact crash testing.

The tests, which are conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, aim to calculate the vehicle occupants chance of injury in both frontal and side collisions. For the frontal tests, the vehicle is crashed into a fixed barrier at a speed of 35 mph, which is equivalent to a head on collision between two similar vehicles at 35 mph. For side impact testing, a 3,015 pound barrier moving at 38.5 mph is crashed into the stationary vehicle.

By earning five stars in both categories, occupants of the ML-Class have a 10% or less chance of sustaining a serious injury in the front collision tests, and a 5% or less chance of sustaining a serious injury in the side collision tests.

Also worth mentioning, the ML-Class has earned a four star rating in rollover testing, placing it among the highest scorers in this year's test.
