The results from ETM Verlag's "The best commercial vehicles of 2008" reader's poll are in, with a grand total of five Daimler commercial vehicles taking top honors in their respective categories.  Among the vehicles chosen:  the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, the Mercedes-Benz Actros in the heavy-duty construction category, the Mercedes-Benz Citaro in the regular-service urban bus category and the Mercedes-Benz Tourino in the midibus class.

In total, more than 8,500 participants cast their votes in ETM Verlag's poll, choosing from a total of 162 possible candidates. 
Organizing the activities were the specialist trade journals “Fernfahrer”, “lastauto omnibus” and “trans aktuell” - all published in Stuttgart - together with engineers of Dekra AG.

The best commercial vehicles of 2008 – Daimler commercial vehicles make up half of the winners

• The vans, trucks, buses and coaches of the Stuttgart-based manufacturer emerge with five victories in ETM Verlag’s readers’ poll

Stuttgart - Daimler AG’s commercial vehicles have achieved the top position in five out of the ten categories in ETM Verlag’s twelfth readers’ poll to find the “The best commercial vehicles of 2008”. This year around 8500 participants cast their votes, choosing from among no less than 162 possible candidates.

The unequalled winning series of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter continues to dominate in 2008. Once again the vote went in favour of the van and as such secured its position as the victor of all of ETM Verlag’s previous readers’ polls. This is also a reflection of the market success of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, for which production capacities in Düsseldorf and Ludwigsfelde are being expanded signi ficantly.

Mercedes-Benz trucks came out on top in the heavy-duty construction category. The victory achieved by the dump trucks up to 32 t is testament to the reliability, robustness and economy offered by the Mercedes-Benz Actros, precisely the qualities required for such applications.

The Setra TopClass 400, also a brand of Daimler AG, achieved first place in the category high-deck touring coaches. The second generation of the premium touring coach is currently on the market, and has now taken pride of place on the winner’s podium for the fifth time. In the regular-service urban bus category, Europe’s most successful model emerged victorious: the Mercedes-Benz Citaro has broken all records with more than 20,000 regular-service buses in just ten years. With the latest ETM readers’ poll, it has now topped the rankings for the ninth time. The victory in the midi-bus class this year once again went to the Mercedes-Benz Tourino.
