As a part-time resident of Florida, I'm constantly forced to deal with the pains of navigating through seas of nearly blind Geritol-laced drivers on a daily basis.
While the idea that there are
drivers in other states capable of matching the ineptitude of Floridian drivers is difficult to fathom, a recent driving study conducted by GMAC Insurance found that although Florida scored poorly, there are plenty of other states that provide the same migrane-inducing driving conditions.
So what state is home to this country's worst drivers?
After issuing a 20-question test similar to the DMV's licensing exam to 5,288 drivers around the country, GMAC found that the state possessing the most unknowledgeable drivers is Rhode Island, with a quarter of
drivers surveyed not earning a passing grade. Not surprisingly, other states that performed poorly included Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Maryland, all achieving between a 20-24% fail rate.
As for what state's drivers performed the best - Oregon achieved the highest results, with only 10% of drivers receiving a failing grade. Washington, Vermont, Idaho and South Dakota held the runner-up spots, achieving an 87%-88% success rate.
