Excitement among the automotive experts on November 29, 1982: the third Mercedes-Benz model series – in the form of the long-awaited compact Mercedes-Benz 190/190 E – appeared on the automotive world stage. A sensation, as it would turn out, because in terms of design, suspension, engine and lightweight materials, this Mercedes differed distinctively from its brand brethren, the Mercedes mid-series, as it was called at the time, and the S-Class. Today, the model designations are a lot more simple: C-Class, E-Class and S-Class.
The virtually avant-garde design with distinctive wedge shape and angular lines, high rear-end and almost vertical air-flow breakaway edge was outstanding – and somewhat confusing for purists. Engineers were intrigued by the extremely low Cd value, the shock-absorber strut front suspension and above all by the new multi-link independent rear suspension which opened up new dimensions in dynamics, handling safety and ride comfort. And on top of all this, the new models were really fast. The Mercedes-Benz 190 and 190 E had top speeds of just under and above 200 km/h, respectively – at a fairly low fuel consumption...

eMercedesBenz Feature: Daimler-Benz Presents The Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 In 1968
Posted July 22, 2008 At 9:50 AM CST by T. Philips

In March 1968 Daimler-Benz presented a car at the Geneva Motor Show which on closer inspection revealed itself to be a combination of the 109 series Type 300 SEL introduced in 1965 and the Type 600 ‘representation sedan’. Out of the latter came the 6.3-liter V8 engine and automatic transmission, whose 250 hp (184 kW) accelerated the new model from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds and provided a top speed of over 220 km/h.
Such sporting high performance made it one of the world’s fastest series produced sedans, capable of standing shoulder to shoulder with such nimble sports cars as the Porsche 911 S or the Jaguar E-Type 4.2. The only clue as to car’s output was the discreet number combination 6.3, positioned to the right-hand side of the trunk lid, ordered by many customers for the “obsolete position...”

Photographer Dan Lecca Takes A Behind-The-Scenes Look At Mercedes Car Design

At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin over the weekend, world-renowned photographer Dan Lecca took some time in between shows to stop by Mercedes' designo exhibit. While there, Lecca was able to witness firsthand how various fashion and lifestyle trends are incorporated into the process of Mercedes interior design, with a number of examples on display that demonstrated Mercedes designers' various inspirations for the new GLK.
According to Martin Bremer, Director Colour & Trim Mercedes-Benz Design: "Just as fashion long ago dispensed with the narrow idea of clothing as protection and warmth, today’s automobile is far more than simply a means of conveyance. Now more than ever, both are a form of personal expression and individual style..."

With the weekend nearly upon us, what better way to make the final hours of your Friday workday go a little quicker than with an amply-portioned Mercedes Review Roundup installment? We couldn't agree more, so to oblige, we've assembled a total of four Mercedes reviews that scrutinize the new Mercedes GLK, the CLC Sport Coupe and the new-generation SLK-Class range.
As always, you can find an excerpt from the first review below as well as the full collection of articles immediately after the jump.
Mercedes-Benz GLK (via Inside Line)
Reviewer's rating: Unspecified
"Relying on the same basic recipe used by BMW with the 3 Series-based X3, the 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK has been conceived around the existing platform from the third-generation 2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class. With its unit-body construction and compliant car-derived suspension, the GLK is the epitome of the modern-day SUV with a bias very much toward everyday on-road use. It does offer full-time all-wheel drive, however: an all-weather sort of system that nominally apportions 45 percent of the drive to the front wheels and the remaining 55 percent to the rear, with electronics taking care of stability and traction..."

Exclusive iPhone Pouch Premiers At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin

Now that the hysteria induced by the 3G iPhone launch is finally subsiding, with only a few lingering feelings of covetous desire felt by those that didn't fall prey to the marketing machine that is Apple, we can finally turn our attention back to the things that really matter in life: like how do we best accessorize our shiny new playthings? If you're on the waiting list for the new Mercedes GLK-Class, there's really only one correct answer to that question, and the answer, my friends, is with a new high-quality CRYSTALLIZED Swarovski Elements iPhone pouch from the forthcoming GLK Collection.
Although it's difficult to discern in the photos, the new iPhone pouch is crafted from the finest quality white nappa leather, despite its greyish appearance in the pics. Accentuating this vision of purity is crisp cut-out transparent GLK lettering, lavishly trimmed with the aforementioned CRYSTALLIZED Swarovski Elements. But the true beauty of the case doesn't reveal itself until the phone is actually inserted, as it's only then that the light from your iPhone display is gently refracted through the crystals, revealing a kaleidoscope of colors while simultaneously expressing to the world your affinity for Mercedes' newest SUV...

German top model Eva Padberg has been representing Mercedes-Benz as a brand ambassador at international fashion and lifestyle events since May 2007. In this capacity, she will be the face of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin. “Eva Padberg’s style is young and fresh just like Berlin’s. This is in perfect harmony with the Mercedes-Benz brand and underlines our international involvement with fashion,” explains Dr. Olaf Göttgens, Vice-President Brand Communications Mercedes-Benz Cars.
Born on January 27, 1980 in Bad Frankenhausen, Eva Padberg grew up in the little village of Rottleben next to the Kyffhäuser Mountains in the German state of Thuringia. In 1995, she entered the “Bravo Girl & Boy” contest, becoming one of the top three finalists and receiving her first model agency contract. Beginning in 2009, Mercedes-Benz will be the title sponsor of Stockholm Fashion Week by Berns, the most important fashion event in Sweden. The initiative was already launched this summer with the first presentation of the Mercedes-Benz Young Fashion Industry Award at Stockholm Fashion Week in July. In cooperation with event organiser Berns Salonger and national design schools, Mercedes-Benz established the new prize in order to encourage up-and-coming Swedish fashion designers.
Since 2006, Stockholm Fashion Week by Berns has taken place twice a year – in January (fall/winter collection) and July (spring/summer collection) – and has established itself as one of the key fashion events in Scandinavia. During each of the three-day events, the best-known Swedish and other Nordic designers, including Acne Jeans, Filippa K, Cheap Monday, Whyred, Hope and Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair, present their latest collections alongside extraordinary young talents such as Sandra Backlund and Helena Hörstedt. The shows are complemented with seminars, exhibitions and a fashion trade fair...
